Until I See Tomorrow
Until I See Tomorrow is an apocalyptic horror-suspense set on Central Florida's Space Coast.
A broken father and orphaned daughter are stuck fighting a newly disease-ridden world – alone. Dangerous past ties land them in peril – only fate knows who will walk away alive.
-----
After a hurricane makes landfall on the east coast of Florida, a deadly, mutated strain of a common mold rapidly spreads.
Beach and riverside towns are quarantined with infection rates spreading across the world. Martial law is declared, and citizens ‘cleared’ are forced to remain compliant.
However, once things spiral out of control – humanity is wiped out, leaving few survivors.
Lloyd, a felon and broken father in his 40s, is forced to navigate the new world filled with death, grief, and isolation. Threats lurk around every corner, both human.. and not.
A young girl, reminiscent of what he’s lost, finds him along the way. Rough starts and poor decisions land her in danger at his expense.
Can he protect her? Or will he fail like times before?

Not my usual choice, but I really enjoyed this one! Fast-paced, well-written and gripping from start to finish. The ending is one hell of a cliffhanger — now I NEED to know what happens next! 😱📖🖤

Until I See Tomorrow, by Rachel Slater, is an apocalyptic horror-suspense novel that is gritty and character-driven, set in Central Florida. It explores topics such as profound personal loss and the brutal decay of society.
The story follows Lloyd, a man hardened by a life of crime and a strained relationship with his family, as he navigates the collapse of society following both a devastating hurricane and the rapid onset of a global pandemic. The pandemic is characterized by a fungal respiratory infection. As society falls into chaos, the environment itself becomes hostile, spreading infections that transform the population into rabid, aggressive hosts for a parasitic mold. Lloyd’s only thought is to find his daughter, so he embarks on a high-stakes mission to bypass military blockages and rescue her. Not only does this book document Lloyd’s journey, but it also shows his inability to let go of the past. He is abrasive and struggles with addiction and anger issues, yet is completely devoted to his daughter.
I loved the body horror in this book. The infected are not your typical zombies! It is a unique take on the genre, and its biological and parasitic elements heighten the sense of dread. Imagine loved ones being consumed from the inside out by rot! It spreads with terrifying speed. I love it!

Post-apocalyptic books/movies/stories have been drawing me in since I was a little kid. I've always enjoyed the darker, end of the world, horror aspects that involve a fight to survive. It's not just mentally and physically surviving - it's about finding the right people that can help you. Or the wrong ones who can hurt you. And this book laid out everything I fell in love with from the time I watched The Stand miniseries (and later read the book). But Slater's book? She brings some big competition to the table! If you find that you often struggle with even a little darkness, I suggest reading the trigger warnings before diving in. If you're like me? Jump in headfirst - you won't regret it!
Lloyd is a flawed man, shaped thanks to a life that involved crime and a lot of pain. His grief has shaped him into a gritty demeanor.
When Elizabeth crosses paths with him, he connects her to the life he once held so close. And his decisions, albeit not always sound, are done in her best interest. They often find themselves in precarious situations that made my heart practically pound out of my chest!
Slater made this feel like an interactive book as I could feel the horror crawling under my skin because I had started caring for the characters, desperately wanting them to find a way to be/stay safe while also still navigating the world that has me wrapped around it because I can't stop enjoying the journey.

Until I See Tomorrow by Rachel Slater is, without question, one of the best books I have read all year: across any genre, not just horror or zombie fiction. From the very first pages, I was completely drawn in. The world-building is exceptional, and the characters feel vivid and real in a way that makes the entire story deeply immersive.
Fans of The Walking Dead or The Last of Us will feel right at home here, but this book goes beyond the typical expectations of the genre. While it delivers everything you would want from a gripping zombie narrative, what truly sets it apart is the emotional depth. The relationship between Lloyd and Elizabeth is the heart of the story, and it is nothing short of unforgettable. Their connection is written with such care and authenticity that it elevates the entire book.
Although this appears to be a standalone novel, I sincerely hope that is not the case. The ending is one of the most heartfelt and impactful I have experienced in a long time. It is the kind of conclusion that reshapes your expectations, what once felt like a perfect ending in other books simply does not compare after reading this.
If you enjoy zombie fiction, this is a must-read. If you appreciate powerful character relationships and emotional storytelling, this is essential. Rachel Slater has created something truly special here.

For someone who loved Supernatural and Jeffrey Dean Morgan I needed to get my hands on more zombie books. This book is incredibly well written and Lloyd is someone im sure I've seen around these parts before. The details are so specific without feeling like they're taking over the story. I didnt expect to feel so sad at Johnny so soon after the book started but there it was. Every part of this story was well planned out and as someone who lives on the space coast I knew every reference. I really want to know why Lloyd wasnt infected by the mold in his house but the bite got him so badly and why he was so sick throughout. I felt like it was going to lead somewhere and it might still, gotta wait for the next book. Anyways I was super invested and would have read this a lot faster had I had the time.

I found the world building and character introductions to the beginning with great build up of plot to be well planned and executed. Then chaos and action further along was gripping and well structured.
Loved the thrill and anxiety of what is to come, a lot of tension in their survival.
I loved the father / daughter aspect, definitely enjoyed Lloyd for his character being a gruff hard-ass with a softy side.
Recommended to apocalyptic, end of days thriller lovers who like Z Nation & The Walking Dead.

I went into this ARC completely blind and I am so thankful that I did. I flew through this book so fast. The only issue I ran into was the vulgar language by the MMC, but given what type of man he was, I would say it was very fitting. This book has a dystopian/outlaw vibe with a “reformed narcissist” as the main character. It is full of loss, crime, hopelessness, sprinkled with a tiny bit of hopefulness, and one heck of a cliffhanger. I cannot wait for book 2!

Until I See Tomorrow is a great new take on zombie apocalypse books! The characters are human and well developed as is the world. The book flows very well and is easy to consume. The material is very much detailed and made for a good body horror. But there is so much more to it than that. The relationships in this book are written so well. And the story isn’t an average run of the mill apocalypse. It’s definitely worth your time!

LOVED THIS!!! Such a great story about second chances. I loved all the characters some made me cringe some made me sad some made me laugh. Overall loved this book. Cannot believe the ending though even if it had to end like that which i totally understand … i was still shocked!

Big thanks to the author for the ARC copy of Until I See Tomorrow!! This has not affected my review at all, which are my own thoughts.
After a hurricane makes landfall on the east coast of Florida, a deadly, mutated strain of a common mold rapidly spreads. Beach and riverside towns are quarantined, and martial law is declared, while 'cleared' citizens are forced to remain compliant and not ask questions. However, things soon spiral out of control and most of humanity is wiped out, leaving a handful of survivors to fend for themselves in a new world order.
Lloyd, a felon and broken father in his 40s, is forced to navigate the new world filled with death, grief, and isolation. Threats lurk around every corner, both human.. and not. Both horrible in their own ways. Yet, he also finds a young girl (or rather, she finds him), reminiscent of what he’s lost. Rough starts and poor decisions land her in danger at his expense. But, he's willing to go to whatever needed extreme to protect her.
Lloyd, Lloyd, Lloyd...What can I say? I loved his character right from the start! His sarcasm, his attitude, his relationship with Johnny...Everything, really. I think he's the perfect character for this story. A story about survival, but also about family and love and hope despite it all.
My favorite part of UIST was definitely Lloyd and Elizabeth's relationship. Organic, emotional and so full of attitude it felt like a competition at times😆 They both grew on me pretty fast, they're so lovable and so real in their rights and their wrongs. Also, might be because Elizabeth felt like a real teenager, capable, and once we get to know her it is very easy to get to love her (ask Lloyd about it xD).
With all that said...THAT ending was criminal💀 I've been thinking about it for hours, now. I need to know what happens to them, I got attached😩
In all seriousness, I think this is a book perfect for fans of The Last of Us, of zombie apocalypses and father-daughter platonic relationships/dynamics. Lloyd and Elizabeth and the supporting cast give an emotional, crude and visceral story that will make you think: at the end of the world, what kind of people do you want to be? And, would you help someone if given the chance?

I was given an advance reader copy in exchange for an honest review.
For those who haven't read this, there is a content warning list located at the back of the book. This avoids potential spoilers for those who don't want to read the list.
I thoroughly enjoyed this; it captivated me from the start. For people who enjoy end-of-civilization/zombie books, this is right in your alley. The MMC, Lloyd, has a select few he cares about but he'll do everything to keep them safe in this endemic, including a few short journeys. Lloyd and the FMC remind me a lot of Negan and Lydia from the Walking Dead (the FMC doesn't really remind me of Lydia herself, but the relationship in season 10), and it was touching to read (until it became emotionally painful in the best way).
One thing I really appreciate with this novel is I agree with all the choices Lloyd makes throughout the book. In most zombie (or other horror) media, characters make stupid choices and us, on the outside, are sitting there wondering why they would go outside after something inhumane scratches on the door and promptly dies (not relevant to this book but you get my point). Some of the characters' situations are lose-lose, so there isn't a 'right' choice but I understood why the characters do what they do.
Lastly, I can tell that the author truly cared about writing this book. There's something that is hard to articulate or find evidence to show what I mean; its just a feeling, an undercurrent below the plot, that I noticed.

If you love post-apocalyptic, natural disasters, with a side of zombies then this is a book for you. Lloyd is a man with a tough exterior and a hard heart…think Negan from The Walking Dead. In the midst of a hurricane, and the aftermath that follows, he is forced to trust others as he tries to find his daughter.
A story of fear, survival, loss, and found families, this one will pull you in and leaving you rooting for Lloyd.
