Tim Eagle is an author who lives full time, on the road, with his wife, Maria and their cat, Walter White. He grew up in Michigan and is inspired by the dysfunction, insanity, and nepotism of rural America. "The questions asked of life are within the soul, the answers are found in the dark of our minds."
The author really said: let’s make a story about a paperweight. A literal paperweight bobblehead. One of the most boring objects ever, shaped like Santa… and somehow turn it into horror and karma? I genuinely thought this was going to be a joke.
It was not.
I was not prepared for the emotional toll this story was going to bring. We follow Raven, a young woman who has treated some very important people in her life horribly. She’s lonely, struggling with her mental health, and honestly… not a good person.
Then comes Karma Cop. A monster that mirrors that same ridiculous paperweight, but twisted into something much darker. And exactly what you think it does, it delivers karma.
That’s all I’ll say.
What hit me is how grounded this feels despite the absurd setup. Actions have consequences. We all believe that in some way, whether it’s karma, the universe, religion, whatever you want to call it.
I went in expecting something silly. I got something heavy, unsettling, and way more emotional than I was ready for.
Eagle always surprises me with the direction he takes his stories and this was no exception. I was expecting blood and gore as the Karma monster, Akanta, does his thing. I did not expect the emotional darkness. The all encompassing loneliness Raven felt. The overwhelming regret she felt as she realized just how badly she treated the people in her life. Broke my heart. A mixture of psychological and supernatural horror, I won't ever forget this visit to Stevats.
I think that we are not born with karma. People don't create their own karma. Karma is caused by other people and the interactions of the world upon outcomes. The book cleverly delves into the consciousness of demonic force on a naive young woman's mind that is turning bitter. The utilization of an object as a symbolic instrument affecting mindset was the finest element of horror. The sole perspective of the character added to the suspense of the story. I recommend this chilling story, that culminates into a shocking end. I will definitely be reading more of Eagle's work. Arc Reader.
I wasn't expecting the darkness and grief that was in this book. I honestly thought with horror, there would be LOTS of blood and gore.....but there wasn't. This gives the insight on what karma is from the inside. You reap what you sow. Yes, I felt for Raven for a short time at the end, but she got what she deserved. I do hope she can learn from it tho and get rid of the selfishness.
Eagle is a great at what he does! A natural at the craft. Turing the unreal into a naturally beautiful woven story of dark emotion that pulls at you even after you read the last word!
Very interesting! This novella packed in a lot for under 100 pages, and it had a creepy and run down setting. The character buildup was a little slow for me, so I wasn't able to feel all the feels, but there were definitely a few moments that made me go "OMG haha". The horror and violence kind of snuck up out of nowhere, but it worked!. I loved the snow globe and jack‑in‑the‑box concept as I dont think I have read anything like that. The creepy imagery was strong, I guess I just wish we got more backstory on the Karma Cop because getting people for karma is such a cool idea. The ending was great, but it left me a little confused. Seemed like a great ending to have a sequel.
Karma Cop By: Tim Eagle Publisher: Lake Leviathan Books Published Date: March 13, 2026 ASIN: B0GJQDLQ1F Page Count: 85
Triggers: body horror, toxic relationships, death, psychological unraveling, creature horror
Star Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Skull Dread Rating: 💀💀
What Did I Just Walk Into? A Santa-adjacent snake demon delivering personalized karma via trailer park haunting. That is apparently a sentence I can now type with confidence.
Here’s What Slapped: This novella wastes zero time. The horror shows up fast and stays weird in the best possible way. The Santa Snake Karma Cop is unsettling, absurd, and oddly fascinating all at once. Raven is deeply flawed but painfully human, which makes the story land harder than expected. Mr. Eagle balances grotesque creature horror with emotional accountability in a way that keeps the pages moving. The camper imagery alone is going to live rent-free in my brain for a while. The twist ending seals the deal and makes the whole ride worth it.
What Could’ve Been Better: At only 85 pages, I would not have complained about a little more time with the mythology behind Akanta or the Karma Cop concept. The weirdness is strong enough to support a longer descent.
Perfect for Readers Who Love: creature horror with personality morally messy characters trailer park gothic vibes fast horror novellas with sharp endings “bad decisions meet supernatural consequences” stories
Sum-Up: Weird, mean, and surprisingly emotional horror about consequences catching up in the ugliest way possible. Short, sharp, and deeply satisfying.
This was brilliant! Karma is not just a b*tch - here it is a cannibal, Santa lizard-like creature (sometimes wearing a speedo lol), ready to devour every moment of your day till you're drowning in your own mistakes, and you're finally ready to own up to them. The tale is heartbreaking: Raven has been a selfish, toxic, and unrepentant mess all her life; now divorced and slowly revising her relationship to her parents, she finds herself facing a supernatural menace dressed as a mysterious, new trailer park neighbor. Little does she realize that this is no mere occasion for regret and pleas for second chances - karma is finally calling, and Raven won't be able to avoid this call!
Eagle's writing is top-notch in this short novella, arguably his best so far. Raven feels absolutely real; in fact, I believe we all know someone like her, and some of us have even lived to regret it. Still, I for one couldn't convince myself to hate her: she's portrayed with so much empathy and subtlety, she soon grew on me and I was curious what her fate would turn out to be. The resolution was absolute satisfaction and gave her tale a nice spin on payback and the wheel of suffering. Highly recommend!
This was a pile of insanity of a fever dream and I want to be back there now. Whilst mostly being terrifying (especially the fingers) there was a hell of a chunk of heartbreak and desperation laced throughout the whole story. Of course there was still one last mention of the fabulous Dr Effucuss. I for one want to see what happens in the new reality Raven has found herself in! I hope for a sequel!
This fast paced, quick read packs a punch! The "monster" is crazy and it was actually enjoyable to see the totally unlikable main character get the karma she deserves. The ending had a twist I did not see coming, which added to the fun! If you enjoy weird horror, check this one out!
