I don’t need saving. And I definitely don’t need a relentlessly cheerful veterinarian taking over my late husband’s clinic.
Almost 2 years ago, I lost Ben—my husband, Willowbrook’s beloved vet, and the only person who ever made this town feel like home. Now I run the clinic he built, live in the apartment above it, and pretend I’m fine.
I’m not fine.
Then the town council hires Dr. Theo Langley. Without asking me.
He’s tall. Infuriatingly optimistic and handsome. Talks to the animals like they understand him (they probably do). And thanks to spring flooding, he’s moving into the other apartment above my clinic.
One building. One waiting room. Two apartments. Zero boundaries.
I should hate him.
But Theo doesn’t tiptoe around my grief. He meets it head-on—with quiet patience, steady kindness… and a smile that refuses to fade.
I can’t fall for the man who took my husband’s place.
Even if he’s slowly making a place of his own in my heart.
This is a clean and sweet romance about healing after loss.
I was so lucky to get to read the ARC of this book by Violet McBride tonight and it was one of the sweetest, most frustrating, books I’ve read in a while. 😅 Going on the journey with Gemma while she processes her grief is a beautiful experience overall, and watching Theo be there for her throughout it all was so heart warming…but I also got SO frustrated with Gemma at times in the book where she would let her grief take her to a point where she’d becoming seemingly unnecessarily cruel to those around her.
The fact that this was a clean romance made it feel even more heartwarming, especially at the end when the story reached its HEA.
Make sure to check TWs for this book, especially if you are currently processing grief for yourself. But if you are looking for a book where the characters are real and you would like a swift kick to the heart, I definitely recommend this one for you.
4.5 ★ Snagged this opportunity by being on Violet McBride's newsletter. I wasn't intending to be crying like a baby this morning, when I thought I would just read the first couple chapters. Gemma, still reeling from her husband's death, is shook to her core, when the new Vet comes to town for the clinic. Immediately she is on the defense, as this man is basically her husband's replacement. There's so much she is fighting internally, and all Theo is trying to do is exist and help. I can't say much more without giving stuff away, but absolutely adored this emotional trainwreck (in a good way). Love the enthusiasticness of the ladies of the town, trying to break Gemma free of the "fog".
Thank you Violet, for the early read acceptance!☺️
This was a contemporary romance. It has it all, grief, laughter, and second chances. Gemma lost her husband a couple years before Theo comes along. Gemma is grieving and Theo is trying to break free from his father wanting him to go a different path. In a veterinarian hospital you have different animals and they pick which one is going to be their master. With a few meddling friends things start to shape up for Gemma and Theo. Both characters work their problems out on their own. A sweet read that will keep you interested. Loved this read. It will pull at your heartstrings and along the way tears will flow. Definitely read this one. I received this as an arc and I am leaving my honest review
Bloom Where You Are Buried by Violet McBride is Book 1 in her new (Seasons of Second Chances). I enjoyed this book. Well written with charming, lovable and enticing characters. A Contemporary Small Town Romance. Sweet with a widow for a FMC and a MMC whose following his own path and not his father's. Yes, and animals are involved. A heartwarming tale of second chance romance, laughter, and love. A quick read. A great read that pulls at your heartstrings. Readers of Sweet, clean, second chances and contemporary romances will enjoy BLOOM WHERE YOU ARE BURIED. GREAT JOB, MS. Mcbride!! I received a complimentary copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review. All opinions and thoughts are my own.
Gemma is still dealing with grief and guilt almost two years after her husband’s death. She’s furious when the town council hires a new veterinarian to replace her Ben. No one can replace him. She doesn’t treat Theo, the new vet, kindly when they first meet.
Theo is trying to build a peaceful, content life for himself. He’s tired of feeling like he’s not good enough. When he arrives in Willowbrook, he’s convinced he’s found just the place he wants to be, in spite of the way he’s treated by Gemma.
An emotional, heartwarming story about two lost souls who find their way to each other, helped along by a group of matchmaking busybody friends who think they know best.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I received an Advance Reader Copy of this book for free, and this is my honest review.
Gemma loses her husband tragically and she is deep in her grief when Theo enters her world. Her walls are up and she doesn’t want a replacement. Theo is patient and kind as he navigates his own life trials of breaking free from what his father wants and what he wants. Along the way, the walls come down and they find their way to each other.
I enjoyed the book but there were a few times in the book that I felt seemed to repeat themselves in conversations or in thoughts and reactions. Overall, the story was heartwarming.
My thoughts: How can Gemma deal with the new Veterinarian? He’s taking the place of deceased husband and no one can fill those shoes. Especially not Theo with his new way of doing things in the office. It was so much fun getting to know Gemma and Theo…..as well as all their animals. Each character in the story is engaging and likable. Bloom Where You Are Buried shows that second chances can happen if you open up your heart. This was a sweet, cozy read that kept me engaged throughout the story.
A chance at a future with someone neither was expecting. Gemma is still dealing with the grief and guilt of her husband's untimely death. She can have a sharp tongue when she feels that guilt over taking her. Theo is the new vet, taking over for Gemma's husband. He was brought in by the town. He is looking to choose his own path away from his father's wants. These two characters are both trying to figure out what their lives will look like without key people from their past. The story reads smoothly. The town interfers and of course the animals play a role in the story.
This book was a quick and easy read. The animal component was great and the characters had plenty of drama to keep you entertained. My only complaint is that there were a few phrases repeated 2-3 times throughout the book, but I did receive this pre release, so those may have been corrected. Even if the duplicates weren’t removed, it definitely doesn’t make the story less enjoyable.
As usual I love this author. I can’t wait for more from this world!
I really enjoyed this story. Fun character (main and supporting). Nice that Gemma and Theo got their HEA. The animals were adorable also. Hope this series is continued. Great read.
