Blackwood Giants #2
Enemies on Ice
Enemies on Ice is a steamy enemies-to-lovers hockey romance with a guaranteed HEA.
A captain who plays to win. A coach who refuses to let him get away with it.
And a past that could destroy them both.
Mateo Russo is the captain of the Blackwood Giants - and he doesn’t have time for figure skating drills.
He scores goals. He plays to win.
Then Elida Eriksson arrives.
A former world-class figure skater. And completely insufferable.
She’s here to rebuild the women’s team and apparently tear apart everything Mateo thought he knew about skating in the process.
She calls his edges sloppy.
He calls her a distraction.
And the more she pushes, the more he wants to prove her wrong.
But Elida isn’t just hiding a bad attitude.
She walked away from the ice at the height of her career, leaving behind rumors, scandal, and a story no one ever got the truth about.
Mateo knows getting involved with her is a risk - to his team, his captaincy, and everything he’s built.
Elida knows letting him close is worse.
Because if he finds out why she really left…
He won’t look at her the same way again.
And this time, she won’t survive it.

⭐️⭐️⭐️️⭐️/ ️🌶️🌶️🌶️
From the very beginning, this book brings together two characters that, while they share a love of the ice, they don’t appreciate what goes into the other’s sport. A hockey captain that is all about winning and leading his team mixed with a former world class figure skater who is about precision and execution, really did make this a book that drips with tension, but in the best way. Eva Elliot has expanded her series, Blackwood Giants, with Enemies on Ice. She gives readers two characters that match in personalities, grumpy meet grumpy, but seriously clash in every other way. As they continue to be in close proximity and work together, the spark between them becomes undeniable, but neither one is willing to take the first step.
Mateo loves hockey and he plays to win. Whatever it takes to lead his team to victory he is willing to do. What he doesn’t like is when people come in and challenge him on things that have been proven to work. Why fix what’s not broken? So when a new coach arrives who is all about the details, this pushes his buttons in all the wrong way. Something starts to happen as he pushes the new coach, she pushes back. While he is determined to dislike her, he can’t help but be impressed with how she doesn’t back down from her principles. Soon the disagreements are dripping with flirtatious banter, heated eye contact is happening across the rink, and a desire he can’t put out erupts.
Elida was at the top of her career when she decided to walk away from the figure skating world. She never shared her real reason for hanging up her skates, which has caused the media rumor mill to spread many interesting stories about her. The experience hardened her and now, she doesn’t let anyone get close. Except, Mateo keeps getting closer and closer. Their dislike for each other is slowly turning into something else, which terrifies Elida. Elida is a character that is holding so much inside. She has a hard time trusting people, so when she lets you in, don’t take advantage of her trust.
Eva has created two characters that through their complexities, layers, and undeniable attraction to each other go through extraordinary growth in this story. While I thoroughly enjoyed the book, if it had been a bit longer it may have allowed for an even stronger, deeper connection. Still, I loved reading this story and am excited to see what teammate will find their perfect match next!

Three Stars
I went into this expecting an enemies to lovers hockey romance, but I spent most of the book wondering where the enemies part was. The conflict never really felt like true animosity or tension. It came across more as a stubborn guy who thinks he already knows how to skate than two people who genuinely can’t stand each other. The angst and buildup I was hoping for just never materialized.
I also struggled to connect with the female main character. She felt underdeveloped and lacked the depth needed for me to become invested in her story. She often came across as indecisive and a little selfish, making it difficult to root for her choices.
The subplot involving the other man felt completely unnecessary. It added very little to the overall story and, instead of creating meaningful conflict, it felt forced and distracted from the romance. The scene where the female main character sleeps with him on what is essentially her second date only made the relationship harder to believe and took away from any emotional investment I had in the main couple.
The male main character was easily the highlight of the book. Despite being younger, he felt more mature, more emotionally intelligent, and far more lovable than his counterpart.
For a hockey romance, there wasn’t much hockey, and the pacing made everything feel rushed. The relationship developed without the angst, tension, or payoff I expect from an enemies to lovers story.
Overall, this wasn’t a bad read, but it didn’t live up to its premise. With stronger character development and more focus on the main relationship, I think this story could have been much stronger. If the love triangle was meant to be a significant part of the plot, it needed more development and a greater emotional purpose. As written, it felt like unnecessary filler that distracted from the romance instead of adding meaningful tension.

Blackwood Giants: Mateo & Elida
⭐⭐⭐⭐
This was a messy romance with plenty of detours along the way, but just like the first book in the series, I found myself plowing through the pages without even noticing how quickly the time was passing.
The misogyny and blatant sexism from the first book definitely carries over here, and honestly, I was disappointed that quite a bit of it came from Mateo. It took me a while to warm up to him because some of his attitudes really rubbed me the wrong way.
And then there were the scenes involving other partners for both Mateo and Elida. That definitely added to the messiness of their relationship. I understood what the author was doing with it, but I’ll be honest… I was slightly uncomfortable with how some of it played out. It made it harder for me to settle into their romance and really root for them at times.
Elida, on the other hand, I really liked. She’s strong, confident, and (mostly) refuses to accept anything less than the best. She also isn’t afraid to call Mateo out when he deserves it, and I’ll admit I almost cheered a few times when she put him firmly in his place.
Their romance took a lot of twists and turns, and Mateo definitely had some work to do before I was fully on board. Once they started figuring things out, though, I enjoyed seeing these two stubborn personalities finally find their way toward each other.
I found the ending interesting and ultimately liked it, but, just like with the first book, I wanted something more concrete about their future. Even a little glimpse a few years down the road would have been perfect.
Overall, another quick and steamy hockey romance that kept me turning the pages. I liked Elida a lot, eventually warmed up to Mateo after accepting that this was definitely not a straightforward romance…
Messy, frustrating, and occasionally uncomfortable, but definitely entertaining.

Some rivalries are built on competition.
Others are built on attraction disguised as annoyance.
**Enemies on Ice** absolutely thrives on the second one. 🏒❄️
Mateo and Elida spend so much of this book trying to prove each other wrong that neither of them notices they're slowly becoming exactly what the other needs.
Mateo is the kind of captain who's confident in his abilities and convinced he already knows everything there is to know about the ice. Then Elida walks in and completely shatters that confidence—not because she's trying to embarrass him, but because she refuses to accept anything less than excellence.
And honestly?
Watching him get knocked down a peg was incredibly entertaining.
Elida quickly became my favorite part of the story. She's fierce, unapologetic, and carries herself with a strength that hides years of hurt. The mystery surrounding why she walked away from competitive skating kept me invested, and I loved that her story was about so much more than romance.
Their relationship develops through respect before love, and I appreciated that so much. Every challenge, every sarcastic comment, and every moment of reluctant admiration slowly chipped away at the walls they'd both built around themselves.
The skating element also made this stand out from other hockey romances. Blending hockey with figure skating created such a unique dynamic, and it gave the story a fresh perspective that I wasn't expecting.
✨ If you love:
🏒 Hockey romance
❄️ Enemies to lovers
🏒 Slow-burn chemistry
❄️ Strong, independent heroine
🏒 He falls first
❄️ Emotional backstories
🏒 Banter that slowly becomes flirting
**Enemies on Ice** is equal parts competitive, emotional, and romantic. It's a story about learning that sometimes the person who challenges you the most is also the one who helps you become the best version of yourself. 🏒❤️.

Hockey romances are one of my biggest weaknesses and I'm happy to say this one didn't disappoint. There's a good amount of hockey throughout the story and it's obvious the author knows what she's writing about. What surprised me even more, though, was the emotional depth. Both protagonists are at stressful points in their lives and their thoughts and feelings felt incredibly authentic and easy to connect with.
The story is told from both characters perspectives, with the POV sometimes changing after just a single page. Instead of disrupting my reading, it actually made the story feel even more fast-paced, which I really enjoyed. I also loved how quickly I got to know the characters. The writing style is so effortless yet expressive that, with just a few words, the author creates a vivid picture of both the people and their emotions.
I also loved that the book is only 240 pages long because it meant I could devour it in just two evenings. The story is so engaging that I never wanted to put it down. It also doesn't linger on lengthy descriptions, which I really appreciated. The only thing I struggled with at times was Elida's behavior. She was often too hard on Mateo, but she was just as hard on herself and that made her feel incredibly human.
I do regret not reading the first book beforehand because this one contains a few spoilers. I'd definitely recommend starting with 'Liar on Ice' if you're interested, although this book can still be enjoyed perfectly well as a standalone. I loved the author's writing style and creativity so much that I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for more of her books.

4.25⭐️
I fear I struggled with Mateo…🫣
After reading the first book I didn’t really have strong opinions on him, so I was excited to see what his story would bring. But compared to Zane (who set the bar SO high), Mateo just wasn’t giving book boyfriend for me.
I get that he was under so much pressure to get scouted, but that didn’t justify the way he treated Elida. Half the time he only apologised because his teammates or coach told him to, and I needed him to figure that out on his own.
Now Elida… she was THAT girl. 👏 She stood her ground, kept coaching, refused to let anyone push her aside, and never let Mateo get away with the bare minimum. I loved that she didn’t fold the second he apologised because he definitely had to earn it.
The enemies-to-lovers tension was so good, but my biggest complaint is that I wanted more of them after they got together. Once they moved to Sweden it felt like Mateo had finally become the version of himself I wanted to see, and then the book was basically over. I would’ve loved more domestic moments and more of them just being happy together.
Overall, I really enjoyed it, but Elida carried this book for me. 🤍🏒

Enemies on Ice by Eva Elliot delivers a hockey romance packed full of sharp banter, sizzling chemistry, emotional depth, and two stubborn characters who are equally determined not to fall in love. Set in the backdrop of the Blackwood Giants Hockey Series, we are introduced to the MMC Mateo Russo, captain of the Blackwood Giants and the FMC Elida Eriksson, a former world-class figure skater. One of the things that stood out to me about Elliot's novel was how Mateo and Elida are both wonderfully flawed characters. Neither backed down from an argument, making their verbal sparring one of the biggest highlights. Overall, Enemies on Ice was a fun, spicy, and heartfelt sports romance that made the enemies-to-lovers journey feel earned, with the slow-building trust and vulnerability adding depth beyond the steamy romance.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. This was such a good read. It was very different from book 1, but in the best way. I felt bad for Mateo because he wanted to get recognition for his hard work in hockey and he felt like he was failing, and then still had to lead the team and show a good example. He was a really good guy in the first book, so I wanted him to get good things. This book had a totally different vibe. The only thing I didn’t enjoy was the second love interest and honestly didn’t feel the need for him at all. It didn’t make much sense to me. Their interactions just annoyed me, then made me angry. I loved the way the book rounded up and finished, seeing into where their relationship went. I want to thank Eva Elliot, her publishing team, and BookSirens for giving me this opportunity.

Enemies on Ice delivers a fun blend of hockey romance, opposites-in-sport dynamics, and plenty of chemistry. Mateo and Elida may both be grumpy, but their clashes over hockey versus figure skating create entertaining tension and some great banter. I especially enjoyed Mateo’s character—his determination, maturity, and growing respect for Elida made him easy to root for.
Elida’s hidden past and emotional struggles added depth to the story, and watching the two slowly lower their defenses was rewarding. While I would have liked a stronger enemies-to-lovers feel and a bit more development in the romance, the engaging characters and heartfelt growth kept me invested throughout.
A solid addition to the Blackwood Giants series, with plenty of sparks, emotion, and an enjoyable happily-ever-after.

Review of advance copy
The story was very cute and easily digestible. Unfortunately, it was also very predictable. It was a very short read and because of that, it felt rather rushed at critical plot points. It felt like there were lose ends that were technically dealt with, but not with as much care and purpose as I would have liked. Overall, it was cute and nothing was inherently wrong with it, but i think if it were 400 pages instead of 200, we could have gotten a lot more character development and it would have been a lot stronger as a story.

Book 2 of Blackwood Giants Hockey Series.
'A captain who plays to win. A coach who refuses to let him get away with it.
And a past that could destroy them both.'
The characters were very appealing and complex and complicated and absolutely perfect together. Plot was intriguing and intense and well paced. World building was solidly drawn and impressive. All in all a great addition to the series. Enjoyed immensely and highly recommend.

I enjoyed this College Sports romance between a figure skater and a hockey player. The storyline has drama, chemistry, steam, hidden relations, denied feelings, and a possible HEA. The secondary characters are great, and the MCs are talented, capable, intelligent, have issues, and are perfect for one another. I liked this entertaining and engaging book.

Fun , steamy and utterly addictive. Oh my gosh I just loved every single thing about this book . The characters, the storyline , the whole hockey aspect . I genuinely couldn’t devour it fast enough. I feel like I went through it all with Matteo and Elida - Al the challenges and obstacles, the ups and downs , the complexities that came with their relationship. I really could not stop smiling, laughing, crying and cheering from beginning to end.

These two had so much passion about there sports but even though they were both on the ice they just did not get the others sport. Matteo mr hockey captain likes his routine and he thinks if its not broke why fix it which why he pushes back so hard against Elida, she is a world class athlete and knows what she is talking about. With each training session with each push back this tension is so high in this book. Really enjoyed this.

I had a really hard time connecting with the characters and overall plot of this story. The writing felt choppy at times as it would switch between POVs for nearly every paragraph and the relationship felt very underdeveloped. I didn't really care for either MC and the whole story just felt rushed through.

Loved the ending! Was unexpected but perfect for the story! Both got to follow their dreams!
Good banter with team mates.

This is a shorter hockey romance, different than most because the focus is one player and a figure skater/coach. Lots of spicy scenes; a quick read. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This was a really sweet and fun read. Didn’t really see the enemies to lovers part of it. Maybe some serious dislike at best. But this was still a really great story and I loved seeing these two eventually come together and find a connection..

Enemies on Ice
I did think this book would have been more Enemies to Lovers by the title. Not that they liked each other but they definitely were not true enemies.
Mateo and the team were needing some help and Elida being a figure skater was hired to teach them some skating techniques.
The whole hockey team was not happy about this decision at the beginning.
They tried to fight the feelings they had for each other because she was his coach.
I like how the other options of professional hockey were involved other than the NHL
This book was a good read. Not really spicy. If you like hockey romance and not into too much spice this is a good book for you
