A superhero murder mystery, sign me up!!

On paper, this has everything I’d love. A unique premise and a great spin on the murder mystery genre. But boy was this book bad.

I don’t even know how to write this review because I have so many issues with this book. While the idea was incredible the execution wasn’t good.

The plot felt so disjointed and messy. I couldn’t even follow what was happening the majority of the time because there was just so little information to go off. But at the same time, we were told step by step detail of the MMC daily routines. Like, how can I get an in depth explanation of someone’s day but STILL have no details or necessary information.

The characters were confusing and just meh. We knew nothing about ANY of them except they’re hero’s or villains. We only had descriptions for two characters (one had a scar on their left eye, and one had curly hair). That’s it!! All the characters had the exact same voice and tone which is just confusing when you have so many!

The main character was just annoying and bland. We got no character development or even any details about him. He likes gardening and has ghost cats. Thats all I’ve got.

The ‘plot twist’ was so apparent and not well written. It was info dump after info dump and the way it transpired felt like ‘well, what was the fucking point of the MMC doing anything then.’

Now I don’t like to comment on grammar or spelling issues if I notice one or two. I understand, even with editing, these things can slip under the rug.

However, the writing is just bad. There were a few typos that could be easily caught out using beta readers or heavy editing. The grammar was appalling. If the author mixed up a colon with a semi colon, I wouldn’t care. But simple mistakes, such as using commas, is such a simple and straight forward thing. Again, this could be fixed with beta readers or heavy editing because knowing when to use commas in the correct places can be picked up through reading and/or learning. The pronouns were confusing for me. The same character (in the same sentence) would be called ‘he’ and ‘they’ but in a way that didn’t make sense and didn’t sound correct either.

My main thought process while reading this was ‘what in the GCSE English is this’.

This idea was incredible but the execution just wasn’t it. I’m sorry to say that I really didn’t enjoy this.

💕Thankyou for the arc💕

I have very mixed feelings with this book, but overall really enjoyed it.

The good: the synopsis hooked me, and the characters and the mystery kept me going. Sean and his ghost cat Jetta were my favorites, but there were two side characters who almost stole the show and I would love for them to have their own book. I'd 100% read the heck out of it. Mysteries can be hit or miss for me, but this one, with the traps, kept me very interested in what was going on.

The bad: this really felt like a first draft. Ignoring the grammatical issues, the story lacked a lot of depth. Everything was surface level (the characters, dramatic scenes, conversations). If this had been a full length novel, it would have been amazing. But too much was crammed into too few pages to really get invested in anyone or anything.

Again, I really did enjoy the book. It has good bones and I would definitely recommend it.

**Thank you Netgalley and Victory Editing for providing this ebook. All opinions are my own.**

I really liked the concept of this book, a “who-done it” murder mystery but set in a world where super powers exist. Unfortunately this book felt slow, especially for a mystery. The investigation aspect of this story was not believable and it didn’t feel like many things were unravelled. I did really like some of the different and unique super powers but I felt the cast of characters was too long.
