There is only one path.

Born mortal along with his three brothers, Michael is an Archangel with a specific role–to hunt fallen angels and send them back to Hell. He is determined in his mission, never straying from his appointed path, until he meets Lake Divine, and discovers there may be more to his beliefs than blind duty.

But Lake is not who he seems. Offspring of a human and a fallen angel, a Nephilim, Lake must choose his own destiny–give in to the coldness and embrace the dark, or seek the light and rise above the sins of his father.

Two paths lay before them, but only one has the potential to destroy them both.

If you asked Patricia to describe herself, she’d tell you, “Too creative for my own good.”

A paranormal and fantasy junkee, she loves to craft young adult and new adult stories about vampires, mermaids, angels, demons, zombies, and other mythical monsters. Aliens might even appear in her stories.

Patricia officially started writing in 2012. She was bored and since she was always daydreaming fantastic stories, she thought, “Why not write them down and share them with people?” She's still deciding if that was a mistake or not. Since then, she has finished a dozen stories and has no plans to stop.

You can find her young adult novels and short fiction under Patricia Josephine Lynne and her adult novels under Patricia Josephine.

When she’s not lost writing in fantasy worlds, she relaxes with knitting, drawing and art, and jigsaw puzzles. And of course, a good book. Patricia currently lives with her husband in Upper Michigan. One day, they both hope to have enough pets to resemble a petting zoo. (Until then, can she pet your cat or dog?)

This was a short quick read that I liked. Four angels Michael, Zadekiel, Jophiel, and Gabriel live on Earth and hunt down fallen angels and their offspring. This was a good read and my first time reading this author. Lake who is part angel we first meet him when he goes to a bar. I felt bad for him he was bullied as a teen his mother drinks and his father is absent. Each one of them has to make choices. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.

I love books about angels and jumped on this short story series immediately.

NOTE: This story is M/M and has erotic scenes. I mention this only to give a heads up. I didn't mind it but wasn't expecting it.

Four angels (Michael, Zadekiel, Jophiel, and Gabriel) live on Earth and hunt down fallen angels and their offspring.

Lake is part angel. When we first meet him he goes to a gay bar. There's a cringe-worthy moment with the bouncer and Lake, but it was short lived and stopped just before it became disturbing.

Despite being the son of an angel, Lake has a sad life with a drunk mom and an absent father. He's bullied mercilessly by other teens and brings out negative reactions in all people. I felt bad for him and really wanted to hug him!

When it comes to Lake, Michael feels a deep connection and falls to temptation, but Lake is the very thing Michael hunts....

I enjoyed the tension, the action, and the dilemmas the character's faced.

The story ends on a big cliff hanger though, with many story lines open, which is pure torture. I am diving into the next story right now!

I received a copy of this in exchange for an honest review.

What I loved: It was fast-paced, and the world-building was great. I didn't feel lost the way I often do with the first part of a fantasy series. The set-up was done so skillfully that I was drawn in right away. There were a few brief explanations, but most of it unfolded nicely through dialog and action throughout. The set-up for the second part was done well, and it left me wanting more.

What I didn't like: I didn't care for the way the lgbt content was handled. I felt that gay culture was portrayed in a largely negative light with a lot of awful versions of stereotypes/cliches. This was partly made up for by Michael's revelation that he didn't have any sin to repent of, but it didn't sufficiently address all the other aspects. I also wasn't clear on how the characters could possibly have been in love after one meeting and a hook-up gone wrong. To me, that fuels the (wrong) idea that gay relationships are based on lust alone.

Overall, this was a decent story, but I couldn't tell whether it was aimed at religious readers or lgbtq readers. I think it fell a little short of either goal. Still, it was good for a first part to the series, and I'm interested to see where it goes.

Different, short and entertaining

I enjoyed this book on archangels and fallen angels and the way it is portrayed by this author.

Engaging with good character development, in spite of it being a short story.

Okay, for this one, I'm going to ask you to disregard my ratings for now, and read the review.

First of all, I would have to put up a theological disclaimer. Just because I read this book doesn't mean that I agree with it. That happens. I picked up this book because Patricia was organising a cover reveal and book launch tour and I wanted to support her. I read the blurb and it sounded like something I sometimes read. You know, paranormal stuff. Angels and Nephilim. Not often, though. What I didn't realise was that it was slated under LGBT as well. And well, New Adult, which means this needs an 18+ sticker somewhere on the review. But anyway...

So in Michael, four angels have been born as humans with a specific mission to hunt fallen angels and send them to Hell. Because apparently, that's the only way "good angels" can appear on earth. Okay.
Well, part of what Michael and his 3 brothers do is also dispatch Nephilim, the offspring of fallen angels and humans. The complication comes about when Michael meets, and falls in love, with Lake Divine, a lost and hurting young man - who turns out to be a Nephilim. (Which is teaser enough - read the official blurb and go lurk on Patricia's blog if you want teasers!)

And so... how do I justify a 3-star review here?

Theologically, I would give it a 0. Or maybe a 0.5. There are so many things I disagree with here, beginning with angels being incarnated as humans, and ending with angels being able to reject the will of God. I don't have a clear stand on Nephilim, so I'm going to hold off on that. (Random related discussion and theories were bandied about here, though.) I also have views on homosexuality, predominantly on whether it should be practiced by people who profess to be Christians (or to follow God), not so much on those who say they don't believe anyway, so the plot line presented in this book opens a whole new can of worms. Which I will not go into.

Readability wise, if you disregard everything above which I said I disagreed with, Michael is actually a very fun read. It's pretty short - less than an hour's read (I read it over 2 dinners) - so it's not like you have to labour at all to finish the book. Inherent prudishness aside, I actually enjoyed it once I finished blushing.

ThreeandHalfStars
I have mixed feelings about this book. The overall plotline is very creative and very interesting. I would love to read a full novel devoted to it. Which is where this book falls down, in my opinion. The pacing seems off. Moments that should be fast are slow and moments that should slow are fast. There’s so much time spent on non-romantic romance that I’m left wondering why these two are even together.

This is an insta-love novel. I’m with insta-attraction, but love takes time. Not necessarily to fall in love, but to explain it and realize what it is. That doesn’t happen in this book at all. We see it as the reader, but the characters figure it out without any conversation together. In fact, about 90% of this novel doesn’t have these two characters together in the same scene.

I also felt as though the author wasn’t sure how to write M/M sex scenes and so skipped out on them. This is particularly the case with the first kiss, which if this is to be an erotic romance novel, needed to slow down and linger. It’s a turning point for Michael, something new to him, something he’s unsure of, and that needed to be shown in the moment rather than in telling later on.

Likewise, there were a few inconsistencies that a detailed beta reader probably could have helped with. Like getting dressed after getting undressed so a character isn’t naked in waiting for family or naked running through the streets. Also a beta reader should have been able to help with the pacing.

The last point I would like to make is that religious aspects of this novel. I love religious fiction, love love love it. This novel tried to bring in more the reality of religiosity in todays world than solely changing it for the purpose of plot. Which is fine. Where I felt the downfall happened was in the turning points. Scripture was used to back up the anti-gay thoughts but never there to back up the “love is love” thoughts. There are certainly scriptures that do this, and I felt as though the author skimped on easy research to find them. If this novel is truly about God accepting all kinds of love, then those scriptures absolutely should have been in there.

Overall a quick and easy read.

I was given this in return for an honest review by Inked Rainbow Reads.

Michael has one path: to hunt fallen angels and send them back to Hell. He's an Archangel reborn in mortal form along with his three brothers. Never once has he doubted his path until he meets Lake. Michael's attraction to Lake is made even more complicated by the fact Lake is a Nephilim. This offspring from a human and fallen angel should be destroyed. But will Michael be able to raise his sword against the one he feels so much for?

A great start to the NA paranormal romance series, Path of Angels. We're introduced to four Archangels who hunt monsters amongst us. It's fast-paced and intense. Never a dull moment in the plot.

Michael is stoic and amiable and completely dedicated. It was fantastic to read how he struggles with the doubt that creeps in and his emotions for Lake. I particularly liked the tightness of the bond he has with his brothers, Zade, Gabe, and Joe. Each so different and yet they make an awesome team. Lake's appearance shakes up everything in their world. I can't wait to read more!

I enjoyed this book a lot! I’m usually a slow reader but this was a short book that also kept my attention enough so I blew through it in less than a day. I suppose my major criticism would be that it is *short*. I would have liked a few parts to be drawn out a bit more, and perhaps a bit more backstory on Michael and his brothers. But other than that, I was hooked from beginning to end. There was a lot of complexity concerning Michael’s character, since his beliefs, his mission in life, and his desires conflict quite a bit. It was interesting to see how he dealt with these issues. Lake is definitely a relatable character (although his torment is on a whole other level), and there were moments between the two characters that were simply heart-breaking. There are some sexy bits, but it’s definitely not overdone (if anything, I wanted more!). The emotion during these parts is what really gets to you.

I’m looking forward to when the next book in this series comes out!

Michael learns, at age 16, that he is the reincarnation of the Archangel Michael and that his best friends, (they were born minutes apart) are also Archangels. The four of them, Zadekiel (Zade), Jophiel (Joe) and Gabriel (Gabe) and Michael (Mike) have been assigned to seek out escaped, fallen angels and their earthly offspring and send them back to Hell.
They do get some heavenly help for this mission. There is a twist to this plot when Michael meets 17 year old Lake. Lake grew up with a less than ideal mother, the victim of bullies and other nasty encounters.
Reader, do be aware that this book contains scenes of a sexual nature between males, some consensual, some not. Note the GLBT addition to the genre.
I liked the author’s character development, especially of Michael, Lake and Lake’s mother. They evoked my emotions and had me cheering for Lake, the underdog.
The storyline had nice flow and was easy to follow.
I enjoyed this book and would recommend it. 4.5 Stars!

The opening to this series by Patricia Josephine took me by surprise. I hadn't realised how short it was, but that was okay. The pacing was fast, I rattled through it in a day, and it left me eager to read the rest of the series. It felt like not a word was wasted. Also, the relationship between Michael and Lake was something I hadn't come across before in this type of book. It leaves Michael in a dilemma as his feelings and desires seem to conflict with the path that has been ordained for him. I really liked this as it shows that despite being an archangel with a divine mission, he is very much human as well. I enjoyed this story and look forward to finding out more about the rest of the brotherhood in the other parts of the series.

Michael is part one in a series of four novellas. This installment sets the tone for this fast paced story with a new twist on angels and nephilim. While the story line has mature aspects (sexual content, LGBT themes and warrants a NA classification), the different take on established themes was both interesting and creative. Characters in Michael are flawed, believable and well-developed. Patricia captures the essence of their emotional struggle and challenges very well.

Michael is hard to describe. On the surface, it's about an archangel whose job it is to search for fallen angels. However, there is a same-sex attraction between Michael and a fallen angel named Lake that takes the story in a different direction than you'd expect. Patricia wove in so many twists and turns with her suspense, you won't be able to put it down once you start. This is the first in a series and I can't wait to read the rest!

When is 'good' good, or, we all hate the perfect angle

As an ex-Christian, and out gay, I really enjoyed this book. I still consider myself to be spiritual, and I was interested in how this book depicted Michael struggling to be good, while 'Authority' told him that what he wanted to do was bad. Lake is perhaps an even more interesting character, struggling with different, yet simple problems to Michelle.
