From what I can tell this book was originally published in 1979, that is the copy that I read and, from what I found online, these are the same book.
It has absolutely no explanation for historical context of how the "Indians" came to be where they are. Given Dempsey's personal context I am surprised that there was no mention of -why- the buffalo disappeared, how horrible the residential schools were, or that the practices of the Indigenous people were outlawed (sometimes including their clothing) which is why they "adapted" so fast.
Overall a disappointing read, it could have been done better.
Reading a book from an Indigenous author that is more up to date would give you a better insight into the lives of the people who were studied within these pages.
