Black Heart Security #12
Tormented Hearts
She inherited enemies. He’s her only protection. The real danger might be the heat between them.
Former Army Ranger Heath Hawk has dedicated his life to protecting others, first in uniform and now at Black Heart Security. Keeping people safe is the one thing he never questions—until he’s assigned to protect a determined heiress combing the Wyoming mountains for a buried family secret. The job should be straightforward. Stay close. Keep her alive. Instead, he finds himself far too distracted by the stubborn woman who challenges his patience and tempts him to forget every professional boundary he swore he’d never cross.
Sinead Winthrop has spent her entire life living beneath the weight of her family’s legacy. When her late father’s final request sends her into the mountains, she expects answers, not ruthless men willing to kill to claim the same prize she’s searching for. Depending on her bodyguard Hawk was never part of the plan, and every mile they travel together makes it harder to ignore the undeniable chemistry…or stay out of his arms.
As danger closes in and the race to uncover the truth becomes more deadly, Hawk and Sinead are forced to trust each other with more than their lives. Every stolen touch blurs the line between duty and desire, while every clue they uncover brings them one step closer to the crosshairs. But whatever waits at the end of the trail, Hawk has already decided Sinead is worth risking everything to protect.
A legacy that comes with danger. A bodyguard willing to take a bullet for the woman who becomes more than a job. Steamy suspense, ranch family chaos and a series worth bingeing. 1-click TORMENTED HEARTS now and BINGE the entire Black Heart Security series!

I really enjoy returning to the world of Black Heart Security and the rehabilitation ranch, where retired veterans are recovering from injuries to both body and mind. There is always such a wonderful sense of family and community among the characters.
This time, Heath “Hawk” is on a mission to rescue Sinead, who has seen people following her, and they're carrying weapons. After the death of her father, a mystery begins to unfold, with clues pointing to hidden treasure that has been sought for decades. It seems greed can bring out the worst in people.
Hawk and Sinead have a map and a long, difficult journey ahead of them as they hike deep into the mountains in search of the treasure. But the question is, will they find the gold first, or will someone find them?
Danger is never far away, and with only each other to rely on in the rugged wilderness, their relationship develops alongside the growing threat. There is plenty of action and suspense, but also a beautiful romance as Hawk and Sinead learn to trust and depend on each other.
I also love seeing the other couples on the ranch and, of course, the children, who bring some much needed lighter moments to the story.
With danger, emotion, romance, and plenty of excitement, this was another heart-stopping and wonderful addition to the series. I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Hawk loves giving stats
But ultimately the only stat he needs is: One.
One woman.
One found family.
One life.
One future.
Hawk and Sinead just have to survive long enough to claim that life and that future. And he racks up an impressive array of stats as they fight to survive: four mercs, five deaths, four bullets shot, one bullet taken, a snake bite, two helicopter rescues, one well hidden cabin, a hundred and fifty year old myth and what could possibly be a treasure map.
I love that Sinead totally surprises Hawk, he judged her before they met and she proves every judgement wrong, again and again. He saves her, only for her to then save him, repeatedly. They click in a way neither expected and they have an easy comfort around each other, the silence doesn't need to be filled, they see beyond the obvious to the buried hurts below, but there's no judgement, just understanding and acceptance.
This is a fantastic addition to the series and I look forward to future books and the improvements Sinead hopes to bring to the rehab facilities. I read this on Kindle Unlimited.

There is something wonderfully addictive about a romance where the characters are thrown into danger before they have even figured out what they feel for each other, and Tormented Hearts delivers exactly that kind of experience. From the moment Heath Hawk and Sinead Winthrop are brought together, the story wastes very little time establishing that these two are going to be a problem for each other in the best possible way. Hawk is the kind of protective, battle-hardened hero who has spent years learning how to control every instinct, assess every threat and keep people alive. Sinead, meanwhile, is absolutely not interested in being treated like someone who needs to be protected. She is capable, stubborn, intelligent and determined to finish the mission she came to the mountains to complete, regardless of how dangerous the situation becomes. That contrast creates the foundation for much of the book's appeal. Hawk wants control. Sinead refuses to surrender hers. And somewhere between arguments, danger, attraction and a ridiculous encounter with a bullsnake, the line between professional protection and something considerably more personal begins to disappear. I genuinely enjoyed how quickly the book establishes Hawk's personality. He is competent without being presented as invincible, experienced without becoming emotionally unreachable, and protective without completely stripping Sinead of her agency. The fact that one of the earliest moments of physical comedy involves Hawk being bitten in the backside by a snake that turns out not even to be venomous is also a brilliant way of reminding the reader that this supposedly intimidating former Army Ranger is still capable of being thoroughly humbled. That moment sets up the lighter side of the book surprisingly well. Beneath the guns, mercenaries, mountain trails and family secrets, there is a playful sense of humour that prevents the story from becoming relentlessly dark. Sinead is equally enjoyable because she refuses to become a passive romantic heroine. She has her own reasons for being in the mountains and her own emotional history with her father's legacy. The deeper the story moves into the mystery surrounding her family, the more obvious it becomes that she isn't simply chasing treasure. She is chasing answers. The treasure hunt itself gives the romance an interesting structure. Instead of the characters simply moving from one danger to another, they have a tangible objective that keeps pulling them forward. Clues, coordinates, old legends, abandoned locations, carvings, springs, cabins and mines gradually turn the mountain into one enormous puzzle. I particularly liked the feeling of discovery that accompanies this part of the story. There is something inherently satisfying about watching two characters physically work their way through a mystery rather than having information conveniently delivered to them. They have to hike, search, interpret clues, make calculations and sometimes simply trust their instincts. That makes the adventure feel earned. The mountain setting is also one of the book's strongest elements. The wilderness isn't simply a backdrop for the romance. It becomes an active part of the story. The difficult terrain, changing weather, isolation, wildlife and constant awareness of possible threats give Hawk's protective instincts a genuine purpose. At the same time, the mountain creates a strange intimacy between the characters. There are long stretches where it is just the two of them, walking, talking, arguing, eating, sleeping and slowly discovering parts of each other that would probably have remained hidden in normal circumstances. One of my favourite aspects of the relationship is that their emotional connection doesn't develop entirely through physical attraction. Yes, the chemistry is extremely strong, and the book is unapologetically steamy, but there is also a gradual movement from suspicion and professional boundaries toward trust. The mountain forces them to rely on one another, and that reliance becomes the emotional bridge between them. Hawk begins by seeing Sinead as someone he has been hired to protect. Eventually, she becomes someone whose safety matters to him on a deeply personal level. Sinead experiences a similar transformation. The man who initially represents another person deciding what is best for her gradually becomes the person she trusts most when everything around her starts falling apart. That emotional transition is where the romance becomes much more satisfying. The mystery surrounding Sinead's father also gives the book an additional layer. The clues suggest that whatever he left behind wasn't simply valuable but important enough to become dangerous. The involvement of mercenaries makes the stakes immediately larger, and the story keeps asking an effective question: what exactly is hidden at the end of this trail, and why are people willing to kill to get it? I appreciated that the answers are revealed progressively rather than all at once. The book lets the characters experience the mystery rather than simply explaining it to the reader. There is also a nice theme running underneath the treasure hunt involving inheritance. Sinead isn't merely dealing with whatever her father left behind physically. She is dealing with the consequences of his choices, his enemies and the legacy he created. The discovery ultimately becomes about what she wants to do with that legacy rather than simply what it is worth. That gives the treasure storyline a more emotional payoff than a simple pile of gold ever could. Hawk's military background works particularly well during the suspense sequences. His instincts are believable within the framework of the story, and the moments when danger appears feel different depending on whether he has control of the situation or is forced to improvise. I especially enjoyed the contrast between Hawk when he is operating professionally and Hawk when Sinead is involved. The former is disciplined and methodical. The latter is considerably more emotional than he wants to admit. That internal conflict gives him some vulnerability beneath the tough exterior. And then there is the romance itself. This is definitely not a slow-burn romance for readers looking for years of restrained glances and carefully measured emotional progression. The attraction between Hawk and Sinead becomes intense fairly quickly, and the book leans heavily into its heat. The intimate scenes are frequent and explicit, but they also serve to reinforce the physical chemistry that has been present between the characters from the beginning. Readers who enjoy very spicy romantic suspense will likely find plenty to appreciate here. What I enjoyed more than the heat itself, however, was the way the emotional stakes eventually catch up with the physical ones. At first, they can convince themselves that what is happening between them is simply the result of proximity, adrenaline and circumstances. Eventually, that explanation becomes impossible to maintain. The story knows that the real danger isn't simply the mercenaries chasing them. It is what happens when two people who intended to keep things temporary discover that they have started imagining a future together. The later sections raise the emotional stakes significantly. Hawk's injury and Sinead's kidnapping shift the dynamic because the two characters are suddenly separated from the relative security they had created together. Sinead's response to being taken is particularly important because it reinforces something the story has established from the beginning: she may accept Hawk's protection, but she is not helpless. Her determination to survive becomes an important part of the eventual rescue, and the emotional aftermath gives the relationship a stronger sense of permanence. I also appreciated that the story allows Hawk to be affected by what happens to Sinead. He isn't simply the invulnerable hero who arrives, eliminates every threat and walks away without emotional consequences. His fear, anger and desperation make his attachment to her feel real. By the final chapters, the relationship has moved far beyond the original contract. The idea of contractual protection versus emotional commitment becomes one of the more satisfying threads in the story. What begins as a job gradually becomes a choice. And when the danger finally falls away, the question is no longer whether Hawk can protect Sinead. It is whether the two of them are ready to build something beyond the circumstances that brought them together. The ending gives that emotional question the answer it deserves. I particularly liked that the final scenes don't simply stop after the villain is defeated and the treasure is discovered. There is room for the characters to breathe, reflect and imagine what comes next. After everything they have survived together, that quiet sense of possibility feels earned. Tormented Hearts ultimately works because it knows what kind of book it wants to be. It doesn't try to hide the romance behind the suspense or the suspense behind the romance. It gives readers danger, adventure, treasure hunting, military security, family secrets, physical chemistry, humour and a relationship that gradually becomes much more meaningful than either character initially expected. It is fast-moving, highly romantic and very spicy, but it also has enough emotional grounding to make the relationship matter beyond the attraction. For me, the biggest strength of the book is the way the mountain adventure becomes a pressure cooker for the relationship. Hawk and Sinead don't simply fall in love while sitting comfortably in ordinary surroundings. They discover each other while exhausted, isolated, hunted and surrounded by uncertainty. Every challenge removes another layer of distance between them. By the time they reach the end of the trail, they have uncovered far more than the secret they were originally searching for. They have uncovered each other. And that is ultimately what made Tormented Hearts enjoyable for me. It is a story about treasure, danger and enemies, but at its heart it is about two people who enter the mountains with completely different expectations and come out knowing that they don't want to face the future alone. If you enjoy romantic suspense with a strong alpha hero, a capable heroine, wilderness adventure, family secrets, treasure hunting, danger and plenty of spice, this is a very easy recommendation. Hawk and Sinead make a compelling pair, the mountain gives the story an adventurous atmosphere, and the romance provides the emotional payoff that keeps the story from being just another action thriller with a love story attached. Sometimes the greatest treasure isn't what you discover at the end of the trail. It is who you discover standing beside you when you finally get there.

There is something about returning to the world of Black Heart Security that feels like coming back to family, and Tormented Hearts gave me everything I love about this series! Danger, mystery, adventure, humor, a protective former Army Ranger, a determined heroine, and a romance developing right in the middle of a treasure hunt through the Wyoming mountains. I was completely invested in Hawk and Sinead's journey from beginning to end.
Sinead Winthrop is following the final request left by her father when her search for a family secret suddenly becomes dangerous. She's being followed by armed men, there may be long-lost gold involved, and apparently she isn't the only person determined to find whatever has been hidden for decades. Enter Heath "Hawk" Hawk, former Army Ranger and FBI agent turned Black Heart Security protector.
I really loved Sinead. She's independent, determined, a little chaotic, and absolutely not interested in simply standing behind Hawk while he handles everything. 😂 She wants answers about the legacy her father left behind, and she's willing to trek deep into the wilderness to find them. But underneath that determination is a woman who has spent so much of her life wondering whether she was ever truly enough for her father. That added an emotional layer to the mystery because Sinead isn't only searching for treasure. She's searching for answers and, in some ways, closure.
Hawk has his own emotional baggage. His father's abandonment taught him to leave people and places before they can leave him, which makes his growing feelings for Sinead especially meaningful. Protecting her begins as another assignment, but somewhere between maps, clues, danger, long days in the mountains, and a rather unfortunate encounter with a bullsnake 😂, Sinead stops being a job and becomes someone Hawk can't imagine walking away from.
The actual treasure hunt was so much fun! I loved that Hawk and Sinead had to follow clues and work together as they made their way deeper into the mountains. The wilderness added another level of danger and forced them to depend on each other in ways they probably never would have under normal circumstances. Every mile brought them closer to whatever Sinead's father wanted her to discover, but it also brought them closer to each other.
And the danger is REAL. Greed has a way of bringing out the worst in people, and there are others who will do just about anything to get to the treasure first. I loved the balance between action and romance because neither felt like an afterthought. Just when I was getting comfortable with Hawk and Sinead growing closer, something would happen to remind me that there are very dangerous people searching for the exact same thing.
Of course, I also loved getting back to the rehabilitation ranch and the Black Heart Security family. ❤️ There is such a wonderful sense of brotherhood and community in this series. Seeing familiar couples and their children always makes me smile, and the lighter family moments were the perfect balance to all the danger happening around Hawk and Sinead.
What really made Hawk and Sinead work for me was that neither one magically fixes the other. Sinead has to realize her worth isn't determined by whether she was enough for her father, while Hawk has to confront his instinct to leave before someone else gets the chance. They begin this journey searching for something buried in the mountains, but along the way they find trust, acceptance, companionship, and a reason to finally stop running from the possibility of home.
Tormented Hearts was another fantastic addition to the Black Heart Security series. It had romance, suspense, family secrets, treasure hunting, humor, danger, emotional healing, and two characters who discover that sometimes the most valuable thing waiting at the end of the journey isn't what you've been searching for. It's the person standing beside you when you finally get there. ❤️🏔️

Tormented Hearts is an absolute knockout! As the twelfth book in the Black Heart Security series, Em Petrova completely nails it. The author delivers the perfect mix of small-town Wyoming charm, rugged military cowboy vibes, and dark romantic suspense that kept me hooked and reading late into the night.
Heath Hawk is a former Army Ranger and elite military operator who now works for the Black Heart Security team. He is a lethal, fiercely protective, highly disciplined, intensely loyal, possessive, and resilient. Sinead Winthrop is a wealthy heiress who has spent her life running from or dealing with dangerous situations. She is competent, resilient, determined, sharp-witted, and secretive. Heath takes the touch her and die trope to a whole new level. Watching his protective instincts turn utterly unhinged whenever Sinead is threatened was pure perfection. What truly makes their dynamic spectacular is the sheer depth of their mutual trust; Heath recognizes Sinead's inner strength, allowing them to operate as true partners even when his primal urge to protect her takes over. Sinead is no helpless damsel in distress; she is a fierce, incredibly resilient survivor whose lethality and sharp competence match the deadly men surrounding her. They are two broken, dangerous souls who fit perfectly together like jagged puzzle pieces. Their emotional bond is incredibly deep and intense. Heath and Sinead's chemistry is explosive, and the author definitely turned up the heat with some intense, dark micro-tropes. I absolutely loved the wilderness survival element! Being forced together in the brutal, isolated Wyoming mountains raised the stakes to a whole new level and kept me on the edge of my seat.
If you love former Navy SEALs, badass heroines, found-family ranch settings, and high-stakes danger, you need to read this book immediately.

Review of advance copy
Tormented Hearts keeps the Black Heart Security momentum rolling with another danger‑laced, humor‑peppered romance that hits all the right emotional beats. One of the best parts of this series is how the Malone family shows up in every book like the world’s most lovable security‑themed sitcom, and yes — Navy once again steals every scene like it’s her full‑time job.
Sinead’s struggle to be “enough” for her father adds a heartfelt thread through the chaos, grounding her character and making you root for her from page one. Hawk, meanwhile, is carrying the kind of emotional baggage that would require its own TSA lane — convinced that because his father walked out, he should leave jobs and people before they can leave him. Their internal battles make their connection richer, deeper, and beautifully messy.
Petrova balances humor with danger, giving you those perfectly timed moments of levity right when the tension spikes. And of course, the romance blooms right in the middle of the chaos — because nothing says “I’m falling for you” like dodging threats together.
By the end, both Hawk and Sinead realize they’ve found not just each other, but their home — the place where they finally stop running.
A fast, engaging read with heart, heat, danger, and the signature Petrova charm that keeps this series addictive.

Sinead Winthrop was tasked by her deceased father to find a “family secret” that he left for her in Wyoming. On her first attempt, she is followed by two men. When she realizes the danger that might be following her, she contacts Black Heart Security. Former Army Ranger and FBI Agent, now Black Heart Security Agent Heath Hawk is sent to protect her and eliminate the threat. He learns that she is searching for a specific site, in the wilderness, from a message left by her late father. Hawk removes her from the site, after ending the threat, and escorts her to Black Heart and the Malone family. Sinead is not used to accepting someone else’s directions, but is pleased to be away from the threat that they faced. Devising a plan for Hawk to accompany her to where her father buried further instructions, the trip is hazardous due to the terrain and others who somehow are aware of her “treasure” hunt. Hawk admires her grit and determination as they journey back into the wilderness, while aware of the further danger they might face. It seems that they might be searching for gold that was hidden by her great-grandfather, and his two friends, decades ago. When she faces abduction by a man who believes that the gold should be his, will she be able to keep her composure, knowing that Hawk will be searching for her? Will finding the missing gold be her only reward, or will a chance at a life and love with Hawk be the even greater reward? I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. (paytonpuppy)

Em Petrova has done it again! Tormented Hearts keeps the Black Heart Security momentum rolling with a danger-laced, humor-peppered romance that hits every single emotional beat. I got completely lost in the pages of this book and didn't surface for air until I finished.
Former Army Ranger and FBI agent Heath Hawk is assigned to protect Sinead Winthrop as she searches for a long-buried family legacy. But they aren't the only ones after the treasure—mercenaries are on their trail, willing to kill for it. What follows is a high-octane journey through the thick forest where every clue brings them closer to the truth, and closer to each other. There is also tremendous depth in these two characters Hawk believes he has to leave anyone in his life before they leave him conditioned by the abandonment by his father. Sinead’s struggles to feel "enough" for her father.
As they dodge threats and follow the clues left by Sinead's forefathers, their journey turns into one of profound self-exploration. Nothing says "I’m falling for you" quite like surviving the wilderness together. By the end, both Hawk and Sinead stop running and realize they've found their true home in each other.
This book has it all: a mysterious legend, insane chemistry, pulse-pounding action, and perfectly timed levity right when the tension spikes. Hawk and Sinead are beautifully developed and absolutely perfect for each other.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Danger, Suspense & One Seriously Protective Hero! 🖤🔥
Tormented Hearts was another fantastic addition to the Black Heart Security series! I love a good bodyguard romance, and Heath “Hawk” and Sinead’s story had everything I was looking for—danger, mystery, forced proximity, sizzling chemistry, and a hero who will do absolutely anything to protect his woman. ❤️🔥
Hawk immediately won me over. As a former Army Ranger, protecting people comes naturally to him, but Sinead quickly becomes much more than another assignment. I loved watching his professional boundaries start to disappear as his feelings for her grew. He might try to keep things strictly about the job, but that doesn’t last long! 😍
Sinead was a great heroine—determined, independent, and unwilling to walk away from the mystery surrounding her family’s legacy, even when it puts her in danger. I really enjoyed watching her and Hawk learn to trust each other while searching for answers in the Wyoming mountains.
The suspense kept me turning the pages, while the attraction between Hawk and Sinead added plenty of heat. 🔥 Throw in buried family secrets, dangerous enemies, ranch family chaos, and a protective bodyguard willing to take a bullet for the woman he loves, and I was hooked.
Romantic suspense with danger, mystery, passion, and an incredibly protective hero—an easy 5 stars! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐🖤🔥.

Former Army Ranger and former FBI agent Heath Hawk is a bodyguard with Black Heart Security assigned to Sinead Winthrop, an heiress looking to unveil a long buried family secret. Only she isn't the only person looking for her family's legacy. There are people willing to kill to get their hands on it. It's up to Hawk to not only keep Sinead safe, but also assist her in determining the truth. Only her beauty and sharp tongue and mind are a constant distraction. Will they find what they're looking for before the mercenaries assigned to stop them? Will Hawk lose his heart to Sinead in the process?
I loved that throughout this book, while Hawk and Sinead followed the clues left by her forefathers in searched of her family's hidden treasure, the two were unknowingly also on a journey of self exploration. Deep discoveries of the heart were made by both, as well as a determination for a clearly defined future. They both found themselves, and each other, while hiking through the thick forest.
This story had it all-- a mysterious legend; two lost souls in search of treasure and mental clarity; chemistry, chemistry, chemistry!, and two main characters beautifully developed and absolutely perfect for each other. I got lost within the pages of this book and didn't surface for air until I was finished. Em Petrova-- you've done it again! A+++++!

I actually really enjoyed this book, especially because the heroine is not your typical damsel in distress despite hiring Black Heart Security.
Sinead is the heiress to a massive fortune, and before her father passed away, he tasked her with finding something. She has no idea what it is, but soon, she finds herself being chased by men who clearly know more than she does. She hires Black Heart Security for protection and is assigned Hawk. She’s immediately drawn to him, but knowing that his job with her is only temporary, she decides not to act on her feelings.
I really love Sinead. She’s the epitome of a rich-but-not-spoiled heiress. She’s adventurous, hardworking, capable of handling herself in a fight, and has plenty of fire. Hawk, who is always chasing his next adrenaline rush, is completely captivated by her.
The book is funny, entertaining, and heartwarming, and I really enjoyed the chemistry between Sinead and Hawk. My only complaint is the mystery surrounding the story. I wish it had been something other than a treasure hunt because, in this day and age, the whole premise felt a little too far-fetched for me.
Overall, though, this was a fun and enjoyable read, and Sinead definitely made the story for me.

The story of Heath Hawk and Sinead combine humor, suspense, passion, danger and ultimate love. Highly addictive read with relatable characters and a fast paced plot!
Heath is part of the Black Heart security, ex military, protective, caring, strong, self relient, but also dedicated, direct and loyal. When he is hired to accompany Sinead in her journey to uncover her father's lifelong quest, he never expected to find a woman who will challenge him in ways that upset and surprise him.
Sinead is a wealthy heiress, she has a knack for finding herself in tough situations. She is a bit chaotic, lighthearted, loving, sassy, and very protective of her legacy and secrets. She is out to unravel a mystery her father left behind, but they are not the only ones behind this. The danger is high and they will have to rely on each other and trust is going to be key to make it through.
Their relationship starts as business transaction, he is there to offer protection, but as they navigate the terrain, their feelings, their truths, they learn to trust each other offering companionship, acceptance, healing, passion and the love they both need to feel complete again
A great addition in the Black Heart Security series.

Old West treasure hunt for Gold!
Former 1) Army Ranger,2) FBI agent, 3) Mercenary, and now a 4) Bodyguard for Black Heart Security, Heath Hawk is looking, not sure what he wants to do. The Black Heart Ranch, the Malone family, all the crew, and the veterans are great, but Hawk is still undecided what he wants. Wyoming is his home, and he feels the outdoors and the mountains, but? Hawk's next assignment is for a rich heiress looking for a long-lost buried family treasure. Sinead Winthrop’s father recently passed and left her with a cryptic treasure map. What it is, where it is, is still a mystery to her, but Sinead is a bold, fearless adventurer who’s up for the challenge. I am intrigued by Sinead. She’s as comfortable in Louboutins and designer labels as in rugged hiking outdoors gear, and that’s good because the hunt is in the back, unexplored mountains of Wyoming.
Hawk starts unimpressed with Sinead, but she soon shows him they are equal. Wow, what they go through on this treasure hunt is way more than I could handle. The tension never lets up. Hawk turns out to be the best person for this hunt after he shares an old story of the Three Prospectors. This is a great story that keeps your attention. Sinead and Heath Hawk finally make a sweet couple. Linda

Heavy suspense as Heath Hawk, bodyguard from Black Heart Security escorted Sinead Winthrop on a treasure hunt to the top of a mountain. She had lived an exciting life doing many things over her short life never living up to her father's expectations. Upon his death he left her a note with a riddle to solve that sent her on a search of what she was not sure. Heath had heard the legend of the three prospectors his entire life, which Sinead had never heard of the story. He never expected to find out it was true. Someone was after Sinead, and they needed to find out whom before it was to late. The Black Heart team worked back at base, while Hawk and Sinead made the trek up the mountain always looking over their shoulders. She was not the type of woman that he pegged her to be, when they first encountered each other. There was one particularly humorous scene with a snake that kept being referred to, that I felt was a real addition to the story.

Sinead Winthrop is following a bequest of her late father which takes her to Wyoming. She sees two men stalking her in the woods as she follows the trail. She calls Black Heart Security for backup. Hawk, a former Army Ranger is sent to her aid. He expects an entitled heiress, but he finds a determined woman intent on following the bequest.
I loved the interactions between Sinead and Hawk. She is far from what Hawk expected. They face many challenges in while in the mountains following the coordinates of the bequest. Along the way, Hawk is impressed by Sinead's stamina and grit, while she is impressed by his frontier skills. They finally give in to their attraction.
There is a very spectacular ending to this story with Hawk finally admitting his love of Sinead.
I had tears in my eyes while reading this story. You will need to have your tissues nearby.

Another great adventure from Em! The writing immediately grabbed my imagination and pulled me into a story where danger, mystery, life, and death are all on the line, with plenty of hot romance mixed in.
Heath is always moving from one thing to the next, no long-term plans, no real relationships, and definitely no slowing down. Sinead is determined to fulfill her father’s final wish, only to discover that the real challenge may be proving to herself that she was always exactly who she was meant to be.
I loved these characters! Sinead is a strong, independent woman, and Heath is the equally strong man willing to stand between her and danger every time. Their story had me rooting for them from beginning to end.
Another adventure that kept me turning the pages, with great characters, mystery, romance, and enough danger to keep me hooked!.

Chasing a legend. Heath Hawk is relatively new to Black Heart Security and when a panicked call comes in from a woman afraid she’s being followed, he is sent to respond. What he finds will change everything. Sinead Winthrop is an heiress whose father died recently and left her with a cryptic message. In unraveling that message the two are paired together for the duration. The Wyoming backcountry holds secrets, surprises and dangers they will have to fight through together. In a story that takes off and never slows down, a vacation would be a nice break. Characters that get each other in ways no one has before. Having new insights. Depending on another. Learning a new path. This one will tug at your sense of adventure. Your fear of the unknown. It makes the wilds of Wyoming look really scary and the mountains very dangerous. This is a great story for any who love the ides of treasure maps and family feuds.

Sinead and Heath . . .
When Sinead Winthrop's father dies, she is sent on a quest that puts her life in danger. Former Army Ranger Heath Hawk from Black Heart Security is assigned to keep Sinead safe in the Wyoming mountains while she goes after a buried family secret. She makes it difficult for him to remain professional. But there are others going after that same prize who will do anything to grab it first, even if they have to kill her to get to it. But Sinead and Heath are already feeling the chemistry between them. As the danger escalates, the two of them must rely on each other to stay alive. Hawk has always been highly professional and plays by the rules. But he has already made up his mind that he will give his own life to protect her if it comes to that. Will they reach their goal first? Or will others who feel entitled have already found what they are looking for? And who will make it out of there alive?

Returning to the Black Heart Security world and its rehabilitation ranch always feels like coming home—retired veterans healing body and mind, wrapped in a strong sense of family and community.
This time Heath “Hawk” is tasked with protecting Sinead, who has noticed armed men following her. After her father’s death, a decades-old mystery of hidden treasure surfaces, proving how far greed can push people.
Armed with a map, Hawk and Sinead hike deep into the mountains. Danger closes in as they race to find the gold before someone finds them. Forced to rely only on each other in the rugged wilderness, their relationship deepens amid the suspense.
Action, tension, and a beautiful slow-building romance keep the pages turning, while the other ranch couples and the children provide welcome lighter moments.
A heart-stopping, emotional, and thoroughly enjoyable addition to the series.

Heath Hawk was a former Army Ranger, former FBI agent and now with Black Heart Security, getting an assignment to be bodyguard for CEO of Winthrop Holdings, Sinead Winthrop. She was hiking nearby and threatened by two men who were following her, so she called Black Heart and Heath was sent to make sure she was safe...but all wasn't as easy at it sounded, since when he arrived, took shots at him, and he fired back, killing both men...she was on quest to discover a puzzle left by her recently deceased father maybe concerning the start-up of their business...and Hawk was to stay on as bodyguard despite her objections to do this alone...but will an independent, self-reliant woman fall for her bodyguard while on a quest for a lost gold mine??? I highly recommend reading this next installment in the Black Heart Security series by Em Petrova. It can be read as a stand alone book. If you have read previous books in the series your enjoyment will be enhanced by all the characters we have come to know and love.
Heath Hawk and Sinead Winthrop are the leading characters in this story. As individuals they are strong, competent, professional and used to taking control and getting the job done.
Hawk, a former Army Ranger, is assigned to protect Ms Winthrop when her life is threatened. Her deceased father has sent her on a family quest. Bad actors threaten their lives along the way.
Hawk is a no nonsense and plays by the rules. The Black Heart Security rule of not getting involved with your ward as never been a problem, until now!
I truly enjoyed this book and look forward to the next book in the Black Heart series!

Sinead is used to hiking and traveling on her own but when she is threatened by a gun near Black Heart Security she calls in help. Hawk is told to protect her as they work to figure out who is threatening her, especially since she doesn't have a clue who it is. As they hike into the wilderness to find the treasure her father sent her clues to they find they are attracted to each other.
I loved this book about two strong characters who have to see if they will act on their attraction. She keeps up with him which is surprising to her. It was also fun to see the other characters at the ranch as well. A great book!!.

Dangerous men are following them as they hike through mountains finding what Sinead’s great-great grandfather had hidden. Along their journey they both discover a deep attraction and better parts of themselves. I liked that Sinead was a strong character, she didn't need or expect to be rescued, and she was more than people thought she was. What she needed was someone who could protect her, support her and work with her, Heath learnt to do this quickly, their forced proximity helped him to yet to know her better and see who she really was. Sinead helped Heath to understand himself better than he ever had, and she helped him to understand how his past was still impacting him. I belived in their connection and chemistry, enjoyed working out what was going on, loved seeing Navy a little older, liked catching up with past couples and seeing the love, respect and support that surrounded them all.

Another amazing adventure to add to this series. Black Heart Security never fails to bring romance, charm, danger and laughs to your read.
Hawk and Sinead are one of those couples that keep you engaged and entertained. Sinead is trying to follow her father's last wish and find the family secret. Along the way her and Hawk learn more than she ever imagined about her family, herself and him. And the legend draws them deeper in so does the danger. When Sinead is taken can Hawk get there in time? Can he save her in time to grab the future he now realizes he wants more than anything.
This series just keeps getting better and better I can't wait for the next addition and the little updates you get of everyone else along the way.

Black Heart Security, specifically Heath Hawk, is hired by Sinead to protect her while she follows her late father's request to locate a treasure. When she gets close to the specific coordinates, she is tracked by 2 mercenaries and Hawk is dispatched to protect their newest client. Suddenly, Sinead and Hawk find themselves racing against an adversary to locate a true treasure hidden deep in the Wyoming mountains.

Tormented Hearts brings Sinead and Hawk together in a situation neither of them expected. I loved seeing Hawk get brought down on his behind when his assumptions about Sinead couldn't have been further from the truth.
I enjoyed Sinead taking what she wanted and finding happiness where she least expected it. I loved watching their chemistry grow fast, hot, and deep, even in the middle of dangerous situations, yet still remain strong and true.
The found family at Black Heart Ranch weaves together love, support, and camaraderie, making everything that much sweeter. Heavy emotions, love, danger, and a couple who find something unexpected make this a fabulous read.

Hawk/Heath and Sinead’s story is book 12 of Black Heart Security series. It has all of our favorite characters plus a few new ones ( including lots of babies ) and a storyline that starts off fast paced and never stops ! We have old time prospector stories, Indian attacks and gold ! Real gold ! I loved the bantering between the main characters, it made the story. It could be read as a standalone, but is more enjoyable if you know everyone’s back story, especially little Navy’s, she’s a hoot and so sweet ! She makes the series in my opinion. 5✨’s for a book full of heat and heart.
