Some secrets don’t stay buried. Especially not in an archive. I like my job at the Graydon Archives for one simple reason: everything has its place. Every document filed. Every record sealed. Every story finished.
Until Professor Eveline Vallon walks in with an offer I can’t refuse. Forty thousand dollars to find one missing folder. I know it’s wrong. But I need that money.
The next morning, Vallon is found murdered in the rare books room. No witnesses. No clear motive. Just a body in a pool of blood… and a handwritten note left behind, one that reads like it was meant for me.
The police have questions. I have answers I can’t give. Because the deeper they dig, the more it seems like someone is using my own mistakes to build a cage around me. Someone who knows how I think. Someone who knows where to apply pressure. Someone who feels… familiar.
When the second murder happens, the trap finally snaps shut. And somewhere inside the archives is a missing folder that could prove my innocence—if I can find it first. Because I'm not just a suspect anymore.
I’m the target.
And in a building full of buried histories, the truth is the only thing that won't let me go.
I write psychological thrillers for readers who love dark atmosphere, hidden secrets, and smart, jaw-dropping twists.
I’m drawn to stories that slowly build tension, pull you deep into the setting, and keep you guessing until the very end.
I live in Alberta, Canada, with my husband and two young sons. Most days, I write in between the chaos of everyday life, with my laptop nearby, too much chocolate on hand, and the next plot twist already taking shape.
I received an advanced reader copy of this book and am leaving my honest feedback.
This was my first book from this author, so I didn’t know what to expect in terms of style, twists and character development, but lord, did Zahara deliver! We start with a duel timeline presentation, one current - where we meet Sophie. Our main character. We learn quickly that Sophie is a loner, isolated from her past friendships and current co workers. I felt immediately tossed into the plot and wanting to understand where it was all leading. Though the beginning wasn’t necessarily fast paced, it hooked me enough that I believe I read this in 2 days total? And for a full time working mom of two, I think you can clearly see I was motivated! The second timeline draws us to the past. Where Sophie is about 20 years old, preparing to tell her sister that she was leaving for college. We watch Sophie stumble through this, torn between the loyalty to the last family she has and her dreams and desires. We’re introduced to Alex, her sister, and immediately we feel the strain. These are two vastly different girls. Tied together by their love of literature alone and their shared DNA. By the end, I was definitely picking up the breadcrumbs being left by the author throughout both timelines. Subtle. But she gently steers the ship toward the twist. You know something’s coming but it’s immensely satisfying nonetheless. I felt the building tension toward the climax and all of the frustration and powerlessness of the main character. The writing felt effortlessly charismatic and the ending was tied up in a beautiful bow. I loved this book and will continue to recommend to all of my friends and family.
I was chosen to receive an ARC, and I am leaving my honest opinion voluntarily.
Firstly, thank you to Zahara Breckin for the privilege to give this an early read. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience!
I was immediately hooked. The characters were fresh, and I appreciated the alternating timelines. The pacing was such that the reader unwrapped just enough details before switching.
Mystery aspect: 4.5 Psychological thriller: 4.5 Characters: 4.5 Pacing: 5 Sensory details: 5 (impressed by the addition of the sense of smell throughout) Twists: 5
****SPOILER**** The one part that I question as a reader is the character of Elliott. It seemed like a bit of a stretch that he dated Sophie, and that Alex never knew of him. Then him getting cozy with “Alex” not realizing it was not the same person… Even though the sisters were estranged, it just seems like there would be some small detail to reveal that it was not his former girlfriend. Not that big of a deal, just makes me wonder a bit.
Overall, this was a fun read that left me thinking about consequences in life. It could easily have been read in a couple days. Highly recommend!!!!

I really enjoyed reading this book. It had me guessing right to the end but I never saw that twist coming. I highly recommend reading this book if you like reading thrillers. Thank you to the author for the book and I am looking forward to reading more of her books when they are released.
I received an advance reader copy and am leaving my honest opinion. This was my first time reading a book by this author, in fact my first time being an ARC reader so I didn't know what to expect! Never Leave kept me hooked from beginning to end. The dual timeline was expertly woven together, revealing just enough information to keep me guessing without giving too much away. The suspense built steadily, and the ending was both surprising and satisfying. If you enjoy psychological thrillers with clever plotting and unexpected turns, this is definitely a book worth reading!
Thank you to the author for giving me the chance to read this debut novel with an ARC copy.
I really enjoyed the multiple timelines of the main character. The book kept me guessing until the very end and the twist OMGI did not see that coming. Five stars for this wonderful novel, I cannot wait to read more from this author..
I received the ARC copy and am leaving my honest opinion after reading. Also, thank you for allowing me to be an early reader!!
This one started off slow and I was worried I would DNF, but I persisted, and boy am I glad I did (four stars because I considered the DNF early on)
This is my first novel I have read by this author, but I do not believe it will be my last. I honestly ended up finishing in two days. Once you get hooked, it is hard to set it down.
The characters are a tad hard to connect with, but you still want to know what will happen. This is told in present day and past, all the same POV. There were a couple of spots, particularly toward the end where the writing was slightly repetitive (particularly where Sophie is tied up and is trying to get free and can tell she is close but not quite there), but overall the writing is quick paced and not drug out. All in all, I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a good thriller that is also a quick read. Would be a great beach / vacation read!
***SPOILERS AHEAD**** (Do not read the spoilers if you have not read the book, as they give away the twist) YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED * * * * * * * * * ***LAST CHANCE***
I called that Elliot was going to be "Him <3" fairly early in. Like, as soon as we met him early. The immediate connection he seemed to have to Sophie was just odd unless that was his identity. I was also okay with Alex not knowing who he was, because she was never introduced to him.
Alex wanting to change her name and disappear finally made sense after the twist was revealed because we learn she had already done it once successfully. We can assume she was going to resume her identity as Alex afterwards, because no one would be looking for Alex to her knowledge. It also makes sense why in the present, "Sophie" has no thoughts about Alex.
I do find it a little hard to believe that no one noticed Natalie's name in the missing grant or that no one noticed the first time around that the research had already been done years earlier. Or all the things that were missing, such as tickets, etc. I also found it odd that none of Sophie's friends back home ever filed a missing person's report on both her and her sister since both disappeared. I also had a hard time believing that Sophie's best friends just accepted she left and thought she was mad, even though nothing about her leaving made sense.

A psychological thriller set within the archives of a university was enough to grab my attention, and Never Leave delivers a mystery filled with secrets, suspicion, and questions about what might be hidden among the records.
The setting is what initially caught my eye and since I’ve never read a thriller centred around an archivist before, the concept is fresh and intriguing. Scenes set inside the archive were especially effective, with endless aisles, windowless rooms, and an eerie silence that created a claustrophobic, isolating atmosphere.
I liked how the title, Never Leave, is woven through different layers of the narrative. At first it feels tied to the central mystery, but it gradually gains broader meaning through the characters, their pasts, and the secrets they carry. Not knowing exactly how it would all connect added an extra layer of intrigue.
The inclusion of a map of the archives was a nice touch to the overall plot. It’s not something you often see in thrillers, and it added a real Cluedo-like feel while helping me visualise the space and follow key events more easily. Combined with the cover, which perfectly captures the unsettling feeling of being alone among the shelves, the setting was the stand out element for me.
The ending genuinely caught me off guard, which isn’t easy given how many thrillers I read. Looking back, I can see some of the clues that were planted along the way, though I did feel a few key details were more withheld than subtly foreshadowed. I liked several of the reveals, but I was still left wanting a bit more clarity in places.
Despite not being a five-star read for me, this is still a strong debut. Zahara Breckin is an author I’ll be keeping on my radar, and I’m interested to see where their writing goes next.

I Came for the Twists, Tension, and Shocks — and I Definitely Got Them!
Huge thank you to the author, Zahara Breckin, for sending me an advanced reading copy of this book! All opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
● The Hook & Pacing: What an absolute mind-bender! This book hooks you from page one with a chaotic opening that totally messes with your head. The pacing is completely relentless, utilizing a brilliant circular timeline that keeps you flipping pages late into the night.
● The Atmospheric Setting: The Graden University archives are incredibly atmospheric and claustrophobic. Having the layout of the space made the environment feel intensely vivid — it honestly felt like the building itself was a character driving the plot.
● The Shocking Twists: The author drops phenomenal breadcrumbs, delivering a masterclass in the unreliable narrator trope. I was literally shouting at some of these wilder parts! I actually managed to call one of the massive identity twists early on, but instead of making the ending predictable, it was so satisfying to watch play out because the final act completely pulls the rug out from under you.
● The Ending: The final act is an emotional rollercoaster that ties everything together perfectly. The way the truth finally comes out is incredibly sharp, and the epilogue brings everything to a chilling, perfect full circle conclusion that really stuck with me.
This is a gripping, five-star psychological thriller that leaves you with something much deeper to think about long after that final page. A mandatory addition to your thriller TBR!
I received an advanced copy from the author, and I am leaving an honest review.
Ok. Let me start by saying I very much enjoyed this! At first, it didn’t grab my attention and it was kind of hard to stay in it. After reaching chapter 5-7 it started picking up and really setting up the mystery.
This is definitely a personal thing and a nitpick, but it doesn’t take away from the story at all! I noticed a lot of talk about the air and how “dry” it was. I totally get why, being the setting is mainly in an archives room, but after noticing the first couple of time I couldn’t help but notice it every single chapter. I would have liked more descriptive words other than dry like maybe stale or musty? Other than that, the writing was good, the flow was slow but it definitely picked up, and the characters were likable.
Thank you to the author for entrusting me with your book and to give an honest review. It took me a minute to read it through with some personal things going on at the same time, but I wanted to make sure this review got out before the release.
I would definitely recommend to others who are starting to explore the thriller/mystery genre as a gateway read.
I wasn't immediately hooked at the beginning of the novel, so I wasn't sure what to expect with the rest of the story. However, the pacing and mystery accelerated quickly, and I was absolutely riveted. I finished the book in one night. The imagery was beautifully descriptive and immersive, and though I'm not usually a fan of a dual timeline, the timelines were seamlessly woven together where they felt equally important and interesting.
The twists were shocking and well executed. They made you question everything you thought you knew about the characters. After finishing the story, so many tiny clues peppered throughout the novel took on new meaning. While I wouldn't say this story had a happy ending, it wasn't sad either. The conclusion felt deserved and fitting. Everyone faced the consequences of their actions, in varying ways.
Overall, this was a suspenseful novel with thrilling twists and complex characters. I highly recommend it. *I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.*
I was lucky enough to be chosen as an ARC reader for this book and I cannot thank the author enough!
Starting with something that IMO is not mentioned enough in reviews, not only was this a fantastic read but it was very well edited! So much professionalism was put into the cover, the editing, and the writing. *chef's kiss*
As far as the story, thrillers are my preferred genre. I'm a pretty picky reader and it's also hard to hold and keep my attention. I'm happy to say this book did that. In the beginning, I thought I had it figured out pretty quickly but boy was I wrong.
It was refreshing to me that the plot was not predictable (as I was initially afraid it was going to be), but the breadcrumbs were there and it was absolutely figure-out-able. I ended up figuring out the truth very shortly before the characters in the book did, which I feel like is a good spot.
This was a thoroughly enjoyable read; I'd definitely recommend this book and can't wait to see what else the author has in store!

Never Leave was a five star read for me from beginning to end. This thriller had me completely hooked and on the edge of my seat until the very last page. The story alternates between the present day investigation and events from the past, and every time a chapter ended, I found myself eager to learn more about both timelines.
The setting of the Graydon Archives added a unique and eerie atmosphere, and the mystery surrounding the missing folder, the murders, and the secrets hidden within the archives kept me constantly guessing. Just when I thought I had things figured out, another twist would send me in a different direction.
The pacing was excellent, the suspense never let up, and the gradual unraveling of the truth was incredibly satisfying. If you enjoy mystery thrillers filled with secrets, tension, and a storyline that keeps you questioning everyone, Never Leave is definitely worth picking up.
The book was so well written with such beautiful descriptions that it really built a clear picture in your mind as you read it. I was hooked from the prologue and each chapter kept me guessing and left me with questions which kept me turning the pages. It was one of those books that I thought I had figured out but was pleasantly surprised when the twists kept popping up and I was wrong and the big twist was brilliant 🙌🏻 I thought the ending was a little rushed and I would have liked another chapter or two to explore the ‘after’ but overall a fantastic book and I definitely recommend!
I also liked the small detail of the map of the Grayson Archives at the beginning ✨
Thank you to Zahara Breckin for choosing me to be an ARC reader - it was a wonderful opportunity and I thoroughly enjoyed the book 🥰
I read this entire book in a matter hours, over the course of 2 evenings. Admittedly, the writing feels a bit uncertain at the beginning of the book, but the author quickly finds her footing and delivers an excellent read. I enjoyed the anticipation and wanted to keep reading to know what happened next. The twist is kept under wraps really well until it gets closer to the time for the reveal. By the time it was specifically spelled out, I knew what was coming but I loved that it was contained very well up to the point that groundwork had to be laid for the reveal. There are some typos and minor editing mistakes, but not anything I would consider distracting enough to take away from the story line.
I was pleased to be selected as an ARC reader and I provide this review with honest feedback regarding my opinion, voluntarily.
Review of advance copy I received from the author.
That book had everything I look for in a good thriller. The beginning was rather slow, and I kept wondering where the story was leading and what was going to happen. I would never have guessed it. The switches between the present and the past were done really well and never left me confused. Everything fit together beautifully and made perfect sense once the plot twist was revealed. Whenever I read books like this, I always try to guess what's going to happen and connect the dots before everything unfolds on the pages. But I failed this time, and I was on the edge of my seat throughout the second half of the book.
It was amazing. If you love psychological thrillers with twists you won't see coming, this book is definitely worth picking up.

Let me tell you… I could never have guessed the twist that this book had. My jaw dropped!
This book was very fast paced, well written, and I didn’t want to put it down! The beginning of the book was a little slower with the introduction, however, I was around 25% into the book when I noticed things started to pick up and little details happening here and there. From there I was hooked.
It is written between two timelines, but they interchange seamlessly. The book would not be the same without them. Each time one of the timelines ended and the other one picked up, I could not wait to know more about the other.
I absolutely loved this book and recommend it to anyone looking for their next read. I will definitely be looking for some more from this author.

I really enjoyed Never Leave by Zahara Breckin. It pulled me in from the start and kept me guessing the whole way through. The characters were one of my favourite parts of the book. I felt genuinely invested in what was happening to them and wanted to keep reading to find out how everything would unfold.
The twist completely caught me off guard. I had a few theories along the way, but I definitely didn’t see it coming, which made the ending even more satisfying. I also liked that the suspense built steadily throughout the story without feeling over the top.
Overall, this was a really enjoyable thriller and an easy 4-star read for me. If you love character-driven stories with plenty of tension and a twist that makes you rethink everything, I’d definitely recommend giving this one a go.
This is an insanely well written story! I love myself a good mystery read and this one was excellent. Once the suspense factor was initiated, it slowly built up as you read it. I was at the edge of my seat by the catalyst point. It fueled my mind to try to figure it out, and ultimately, I did 'land on' the who's and even the 'twist' just before it arrived, yet it was still riveting and had aspects of sweet discovery because more than one thing was going on really; which my mind loved. The set up, the premise, the concept was all 'top grade' material. I read this within one day! The Author's note at the end was a great addition which I recommend not skipping over. This Author is one to watch for, and I am glad this work of art was placed on my radar.
I received an advanced copy from the author and am leaving my honest opinion.
So, first, I want to start by saying I'm so grateful to be supporting a fellow Albertan. It was fun to have Canadian places represented in the book :)
This book started off as a slow burn but once we got to the mystery it kicked off. I couldn't put it down! And oh man the twist I actually didn't see it coming. I had my suspicions but it surprised me and I loved that. It kept me guessing to the very end. And the reveal worked so well! The ending maybe dragged on a little bit but that is my opinion it still worked really well with everything.
I definitely will be reading more from this author whenever that happens. And thank you for allowing me to be part of the team for such a wonderful book.
This was an arc read. I'm so glad i was able to read this. I kind of went in blindly. You have two different story lines of Sophie before and now. She promises to always be with her sister but she finally decides to leave. She doesn't want to leave her sister but she needs to do more with her life.
Present day. She works in archives and she had a few work mates but mostly she just goes home and to work. Until a new guy starts working there who stares at her strangely. Why does he stare at her like that? After he gets hired some murders start happening and the police come knocking asking questions of her but she had no idea who did this. She is looking for records to try to figure out the mystery but can she find out before the police come back? I did not see the twist.
I was fortunate enough to receive an ARC of this debut thriller by Zahara Breckin! Never Leave was fast paced, suspenseful, and twisty, everything you want in a thriller. I always enjoy a back and forth timeline. In this book, that was an added element of suspense because you don’t know at first how the before timeline is relevant to the current timeline. I liked the way the MC’s inner monologue was written; it felt familiar and real (as opposed to formulaic or too professional). The reason I’m giving it four instead of five stars is because although I did appreciate the final twist, it’s something I have read before. Overall, I would recommend this book to any thriller fan and would read this author’s future works!
I have recently had the absolute delight and honour to have had the opportunity to have been selected to read this book as an ARC (advanced reader copy) reader. Despite the fact that I am currently reading other books at the moment and very busy in daily life, I decided to start reading this book a few days earlier than I had initially planned and how I was so thrilled to have taken this decision. I do not wish to give away any spoilers, but I highly recommend this book. It has a way of pulling you into the story from the very first moment and does not disappoint not even for a moment. Zahara Breckin, the author has an amazing talent as a writer. This is one of the best books that I have read in a while.
On average I read between 8 and 12 books per month (my main account is storygraph Laurenwys), most of which are thrillers. Never Leave was a slow burn. It took a little while to get into the plot but I enjoyed the character development, the setting, and the alternating timeline between before and now. About halfway through I was on the edge of my seat, trying to figure out what was happening. I finally figured out the twist right before I read it. Never Leave is well written and a fantastic book by a new author, highly recommend if you enjoy thrillers. I received an advance reader copy and am leaving my honest opinion voluntarily.
I really enjoyed Never Leave by Zahara Breckin. It was a quick, easy read that hooked me from the start and kept me turning the pages. The suspense and mystery were well paced throughout and built to a clever twist.
The story was well written with a strong, engaging plot, and I enjoyed the dual timelines as I tried to work out how the past connected to the present. It kept me guessing and searching for clues throughout, but I never saw the ending coming. It was the kind of ending that had me rethinking everything that had happened long after I’d finished the book.
Definitely worth a read!

I'm so glad I had an opportunity to read this. As someone that has flown through a lot of thrillers this year I'm always looking for something new and exciting to read. This book did a good job of keeping me hooked. The writing style was a little bit more young adult than I would have normally enjoyed, but it wasn't bad. It was coherent and dark at times. I did guess the big plot twist so unfortunately I did not have a big shock like some other readers. However it was a good read it kept me wanting to keep going and I finished this in less than 24 hours. I would definitely read more from this author :)
I really enjoyed this book. It was slow to start with but that didn’t bother me too much.
I’m not a fan of the then and now aspect but it worked. For most of the book I couldn’t see the point of the then aspects but it wasn’t until I got to about 80% way through that it suddenly hit me why we had the then aspects and I was saying out loud to myself ‘I get it now’
I throughly enjoyed it, didn’t see the twist coming until I was reading it. Very clever
I would definitely consider reading more books by this author

Never Leave is about sisters Sophie and Alex. It is told in dual timelines which I really like. It weaves the present slowly with the past which gives a glimpse of the things that happened when they were younger. It bri gs clarity to the story and seamlessly ties this together until you reach the mind blowing conclusion. I loved the suspense and complex characters. Elliott was interesting and I didn’t understand his place in the story at first. As the layers were pulled back, the truth is revealed with an outcome I never could have imagined! I thoroughly enjoyed this book and am looking forward to reading more from this author! “I received an advance review copy for free and I am leaving this review voluntarily”.

Thank you Zahara Breckin for the advanced reader copy of your novel.
4.25 Stars
The setting was an interesting one, I love the idea of a murder mystery happening in the archives of old text. Also huge shout out to the Canadian setting, and mention of multiple Canadian places. It is so refreshing.
The plot was interesting but the twist is what made the story everything. In the beginning it was great but the middle felt a little too drawn out but it ends with a bang.
The author will definitely leave you thinking after the story is over

I finished this book in 2 days, and it was so good. I’m normally very picky about giving out 5 star reviews for books, but this book had me hooked from page one. I loved how Zahara Breckin transitioned from the before and now POV’s for the character. Normally for me switching back and forth POV’s gets confusing, but with Never Leave it was always transitioned very well. The plot twist at the ending was very shocking for me as well!

I enjoyed this book as a whole for the most part, but it did read very YA. There were a lot of short, choppy and repetitive sentences that sometimes made it a bit annoying to read. Also, every character spoke the same and there were some inconsistencies in the text. However, there wasn't a point where I wanted to stop reading. I did enjoy the twists at the end, and don't regret reading it (or feel like I wasted my time), even though it wasn't a favorite of mine.
