Everyone knows the unbreakable rule of Invicto You summon exactly one Bonded Mate.
Until I happened...
I went from a gardener's daughter to the most powerful Manaborn in history... potentially. Now classes have started at Lucent Academy, and nothing is what I expected. My power is enormous, but my control is at the bottom of my class. I can barely light a candle without setting myself on fire. The princess who wanted to be the Trinity watches my every failure. And the world outside the Academy can never know what I really am — so I'm hiding two of my mates from everyone I meet.
I just wanted a simple life. A husband. A garden. A house full of children.
Instead, the world's fate may lie in my hands... it sure doesn't feel like that just yet.
Alex Bright is a newly published, young adult author, who has just released her debut novel: The Rising of Empathos on Amazon Kindle. Alex has wanted to create great fiction for as long as she can remember, and at the tender age of eleven, she wrote her first murder mystery story. Many more tales, poems, short stories, fanfics and even a thesis were to follow, until Alex finally realised her lifetime ambition of writing a novel and creating a magical world where anything was possible. So Esperanza was born, a futuristic, mythical country, and along with it the vision for the Chronicles of Esperanza series. Alex hails from sunny Australia where she lives with her family.
Okay, really enjoyed the first short story that introduced us to the academy and set up the storyline that we know find ourselves in. And to be honest, I didn't enjoy this novella length story quite as much as the first one. I did like the way the author had the students bonding with the other dimensional beings, and the fact that our MC is now being ostracised for her potential abilities (with the beings that she bonded with) rather than how she was looked down upon by a majority of the students for her families lower standing in the wider community (farmers instead of nobility, etc.). However, the shorter length of the book is also what makes this not as compelling since there is not much time to really give the characters depth and nuance and still move the story on at the pace it did. Perhaps the third instalment will be longer and more fleshed out as the ideas behind it are very interesting.

I rarely leave more of a rating other than stars. This seemed to require more elaboration for me. It’s not that it isn’t a good story. However both these books are extremely short also for as short as this one was, it covers the first year extremely quickly. While the first book was more weeks. The off shoot perspective in the beginning, was yes setting the stage for conflict but done oddly. Again I don’t feel like even with 2 books out she has yet enough of a story arch for 1. Maybe by the 3rd it will feel like a whole book. I will not be reading it either way.
When the first book ended on a cliffhanger and I didn’t see book 2 in the works I was worried this series wouldn’t continue on but I am SO GLAD book 2 came out!! I appreciated the intrigue in this one and building the academy universe. The writing flows naturally and I am enjoying the pacing and characters’ friendship growth and self discovery. Looking forward to more building out the mates aspect in the trinity and hope to see more of the dynamics between the FMC and MMCs. Look forward to future installments!
I love how the author writes regarding the main character. She keeps her level headed and with humility and zero pride. None of the extra drama, which I’m sure will be coming. But so far, I really like this series.
Amazing work by a new author. Detailed world building without losing too much of the plot or character development. I’m really enjoying this series. Excited to see where the next books go!
As an avid reader, I am used to books being 6+ hours. This book was over so fast for me and I was so invested that I was sad it was over. I just signed up for the Author's Substack and I am looking forward to getting more involved with the books.
This was really good. Did not mind that the guys did not get much screen time. I'm really darn curious what's in the letter. That and what's going on. I hope since the books are kinda short and there will be a lot of them it won't be long waits!
A very reluctant three ⭐️ The potential that I saw in the first short story, because I refuse to call anything of a 100 pages a book, unfortunately didn’t come to fruition in this second installment.
