Hard work trumps talent as Olivia’s artificer aspirations lead her to new discoveries!
Several months have passed since the incident at Olivia’s adoptive sister’s wedding, and Olivia is busy but feeling fulfilled as she runs both her shop and her father’s. Yet, she finds herself facing the harsh reality that she’s still nowhere near attaining the level of artificer instinct and talent that she so admired in her late father. While she’s struggling with this realization, she receives a letter from the Royal Magic Research Institute inviting her to join them as a researcher. Hoping to become an even better artificer than her father, she accepts the invitation. She works with her new researcher colleagues in an attempt to develop the world’s first airship, but she finds herself facing several trials along the way.
Olivia is recruited to help with top secret research which is not that easy to combine with running two shops, but it gives her the opportunity to get closer to her deceased father and learn more about magic item crafting in the process. The story is mostly slice-of-life item crafting with a smattering of romance and some action at the end. I liked it, my kind of story mostly about the characters, less about the world or plot. It is a tad short even for a light novel, but otherwise a solid addition to the series.
I'm really enjoying this series and will probably end up rereading the first two again in a couple days because a good story stays with you awhile after reading. The big drawback for me this time was I had been a little hungry before reading and ended up snacking due to what I think of as food p..., when the author describes what they are eating so well you also need to eat lol. So really not a negative just a warning. Looking forward to more in this series.
