Lady Imogen Moore hasn’t had an easy time of it since she made her Come Out three Seasons ago. With her betrothed, a powerful duke breaking it off to wed her sister, she’s become the tons favorite piece of gossip. Never again wanting to experience the pain of a broken heart, she’s resolved to make a match with a polite, respectable gentleman. The last thing she wants is another reckless rogue. Lord Alex Edgerton has a problem. His brother, tired of Alex’s carousing has charged him with chaperoning their remaining, unwed sister about ton events. Shopping? No, thank you. Attending the theatre? He’d rather be at Forbidden Pleasures with a scantily clad beauty upon his lap. The task of chaperone becomes even more of a bother when his sister drags along her dearest friend, Lady Imogen to social functions. The last thing he wants in his life is a young, innocent English miss. Except, as Alex and Imogen are thrown together, passions flare and Alex comes to find he not only wants Imogen in his bed, but also in his heart. Yet now he must convince Imogen to risk all, on the heart of a rogue.
USA TODAY Bestselling author CHRISTI CALDWELL blames Judith McNaught's "Whitney, My Love!" for luring her into the world of historical romance. While sitting in her graduate school apartment at the University of Connecticut, Christi decided to set aside her notes and pick up her laptop to try her hand at romance. She believes the most perfect heroes and heroines have imperfections, and she rather enjoys torturing them before crafting them a well deserved happily ever after!
Christi makes her home in Charlotte, North Carolina where she spends her time writing her own enchanting historical romances, and baking surprisingly good cakes (almost 2 years in lockdown will do that) with her courageous son and twin daughters, each who with their daily antics provides limitless source material.
A wonderful premise and even better primary characters. To the extent that even the supporting characters were brilliant in this book.
The dialogue between Imogen and Alex are wonderful to read, and their attraction and connect is palpable. My biggest complaint and the reason that this book doesn't get high ratings or why I probably won't read it again is the length.
It's too damn short. It's a novella size, however it's meant to be a stand alone book. Too much is rushed and feels like a hasty bow added in the form of a HEA.
To Love a Rogue, was a good predictable Historical Romance story!! Lots of Fluff, but I like fluff.
Lady Imogen was jilted by the Duke of Montrose. He married her sister 3 days before his wedding to her. Being at the height of scandal in Ton Imogen withdraws from society. Her best friend Chloe isn't having it. It's time for Imogen to rejoin society and find a husband who will love her.
Lord Alex Edgerton 2nd son and brother of the Marquis of Waverly also, the brother of Chloe is charged with chaperoning his sister during the season. The Marquis Waverly/Gabriel his older brother has demanded Alex to except the job or lose his allowance. Alex has been squandering money on drink, mistress and gambling and its time for his brother to intercede.
Chloe always includes her best friend Imogen in the outings. Of course Alex and Imogen skirt around there attraction to one another, but eventually fall head over heels in love. The story is a bit repetitive. Of course the word count must be met. Overall the story was ok. It is what it is!! A light hearted, overdone storyline, historical romance.
This was a good story with wonderful characters .....I gave this three stars because of the lack of sexual passion between the hero and heroine....In an adult romance I feel this element is equally important in a romance. Many authors get this balance right, and when this happens a good story becomes a great story....The Love of a Rogue is just a good story....Not bad but in 2017 two adults holding hands, long meaningful looks, and a strong passionate kiss is not enough. At least not for me. I could let my 15 year old granddaughter read this romance, and that is the problem....bit to clean for me....I will be reading the rest of the series but I do think I will break them up with more adult romance reads in-between....
THE LOVE OF A ROGUE by Christi Caldwell is an enjoyable Historical Romance. #3 in the "Heart of a Duke", but can be read as a stand alone. A Novella. A quick, fun read about coming to terms with one's past, healing, romance and love. This is Lord Alex Egerton and Lady Imogene Moore's story, and what a story! You can't help but fall in love with these two main characters, Alex and Imogene. These two characters have so much to give, they both have experienced heartbreak, lost love and are passionate. An absolute delight to read from beginning to end. Well written with energetic and likeable characters with a well thought out storyline. Once again, Ms. Caldwell has written a delicious tale of love, passion and romance. I can't wait for Chloe's story, Alex's younger sister, she is feisty, free and intelligent. I absolutely loved this quick, fun read with strong, caring, emotional characters and a strong storyline. Strongly recommended!

I consider myself a connoisseur of romance novels, and I was pleased to see that I could request a historical romance off of LibraryThing. I had forgotten that I had requested it and that rings true to the book: it was forgettable. It was very short and I was bored. There were plenty of run-on sentences with unnecessary commas running rampant along the pages. The characters were static and the chemistry was lackluster. I appreciate getting a free copy but I wasn't that impressed. Congratulations on your publications, but it wasn't for me.
alex is known as a rogue. his notorious reputation, excessive drinking, and ways with women had caused imogen to be wary of him. the image of alex in her mind isn’t great to begin with. however, as he chaperones his sister around, when imogen hangs out with chloe, alex is frequently around. imogen soon finds out that alex quotes shakespeare accurately, is a fierce protector of his siblings, and not that much of a willing rogue.
i gotta say, the moms are horrifying. imogen’s mom kept insisting that imogen should just marry for the title and status instead for love, and kept pushing imogen to meet with rosalind and her husband. said husband decided to marry rosalind, imogen’s sister. thus breaking the engagement between imogen and him THREE DAYS BEFORE THE WEDDING. imogen has the rights to not wanna see them anywhere. not at home, not in public places.
jilted before her wedding, imogen wasn’t too keen on stepping into polite society anymore. refusing to let imogen wallow in her thoughts, chloe decided to bring imogen out of negativity. imogen is a kind-hearted and sweet girl. it’s a shame that imogen is the one getting the brunt of the breaking of engagement, when it’s not even her fault.
Overall this was a cute read that was quick and came to a mostly satisfying resolution. What I loved most about this book was that the hero was a second son without a coveted title. This story had so much potential to be a five star book but fell short in a few areas. My heart literally ached for these two characters at times, which is a sign of great writing. But I felt at times that the character's backgrounds / motivations were beat into us too often.
And while I don't think sex scenes are necessary for a really good story, in this particular case, I really wanted these two to get hot and heavy together. I mean, come on, Alex was a rogue. Give us a little bit of that! Don't let the cover fool you. This book did not go beyond a couple of heated kisses.
When I read a story, I also like to see the H/h happy together for a bit after the climax but the author left us hanging in this respect.
Good read worth my time? Yes. Will I read it again? Probably not.
I'm new to short stories, having read only a few. This one has a standard storyline, the rogue falling for the proper young lady. Although I wished for a little more depth, I did enjoy the story.
It would have been nice if the secondary characters were three dimensional rather than two, and if more time had been spent on the best friend and sibling relationships.
This is my second Caldwell novel, and both seem to be lacking in humor, although this one wasn't as severe as the last. She's a good enough writer that I am willing to try one more.
Surprisingly, this one is completely clean, no intimate scenes and no foul language.
I know I probably sound like a stuck record but....Christi Caldwell has done it again. I love her books - she's an incredible writer of romance. She has become one of my favourite authors. I love Imogen and, of course, adore Alex. They so much belong to and with one another. A smashing read as usual.
One of the best things about Christi Caldwell's books is how utterly human she makes her characters. They aren't perfect or evil or all this or all that. They have flaws and strengths and make mistakes and sometimes manage to admit when they're wrong. They love and laugh and cry. And they make me care. By the end of each book, I invariably care.
Charming story of friendship and love and forever!
Lady Imogene blunders badly at Almac's and then sets the Ton on its ear when her betrothed - literally dumps her for her conniving sister- purportedly a 'love match'- a day or two - before their nuptials. Humiliated, she tries to hide from society, but her true friend , Lady Chloe Edgerton, has other ideas. She decides to bring Imogene along with her to all of her parties, shopping trips and social events- escorted by her handsome brother, Lord Alex Edgerton.
Lord Alex Edgerton has avoided all of the Ton's social gatherings that focused on the marriage mart- feeling that as the second son, or spare - no woman would seriously want him, except as a sexual toy. Therefore, he focuses his energies on being a top-notch rogue! However, his brother reigns in his activities, and makes him chaperon his unwed sister- and by association- forces his interaction with the fiery and very interesting Lady Imogene. Lord Alex Edgerton loses his heart to Lady Imogene- but refuses to succumb to the concept of love. He dances around the problem, until he is challenged and ultimately has to decide whether she is worth his regard. Will she ever believe anything heartfelt he says?
Caldwell writes a passionate story of love in bloom. She gives wonderful character sketches- so complete that you feel like these are the neighbors you have grown up near. The story of Lord Alex and Lady Chloe are laid out gently, and with such compassion that it lays the reader's emotions raw. We all recognize child abuse. It's powerful for Christy Caldwell to write about these topics - weaving them into her storyline, painting it's effect as a flaw in her hero that he needs to overcome. These abuses obviously went on long before we called them abusive- and to have it recognized in her Regencies, is such a great thing to do. I thoroughly enjoyed her book, and read it cover to cover before putting it down. Can't wait to read the next one!!
The Love of a Rogue ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Written by Christi Caldwell
Lady Imogene Isabel Moore is in her third season on hunt for a husband. Imogene would have been married but for her younger sister who stole her betrothed a Duke from her.
Imogene has become a favorite of the ton in the form of gossip. Her best friend Chloe understands her unhappiness and wants her to be at her side in every way. They shop together and attend different social balls. Chloe's older brother Lord Edgerton does not wish to accompany Chloe at these balls so he enlists his brother Alex to be their chaperone. Edgerton says he will cut Alex's money if he does not comply.
When Alex assumes the position as his sisters chaperone his sister drags along her best friend Imogene. Imogene recognizes him for the rake he is and tries to stay clear of him. However, they are constantly in each others company due to some matchmaking on Chloe's part.
Christi Caldwell brings her A game to this book. Imogene and Alex are most believable and enjoyable to read about. I would highly recommend this short novel.
Christi Caldwell has that extraordinary ability to write hot, steamy, seduction without so much as a misplaced hand on a nipple in this third book of the series. In fact, I was five minutes past a breathless ending before I realised there had been no sex but bucket loads of intimacy. This is a master lesson on how to write a scandal. Imogen has become the target of ton gossip since her fiancé threw her over for her more beautiful younger sister. Alex, as a profligate second son has courted scandal all of his adult life. Now, they are thrown together in a blaze of impropriety as they deal with both the gossips and their past hurts. I liked Alex as an offsides to Stanhope in book 2, however, I fell in love with the damaged and insecure rogue in this work. Imogen is perfect for him as she sees past the mask to the good and honourable man inside.
The Love of a Rogue is book three in The Heart of a Duke Series by Christi Caldwell. Although this is in a series, it can be read as a stand alone story. However, I strongly recommend the reader indulges and begins at the beginning. These characters are woven throughout her books and come together in a beautiful tapestry. Threads running from one book to another spinning a gorgeous blanket of romance that you can wrap yourself up in on a cold night. The Love of a Rogue is a romance of great depth. Lord Alex Edgerton has portrayed himself as a callous selfish rogue. But when he meets Lady Imogen Moore his sister’s best friend, his eyes are opened to true beauty and he discovers that he wants to be more than his roguish facade. Another wonderful romance by Caldwell.
I really really wanted to love this story. I thought the premise was interesting. The scene in the bookshop was really well done. And then the story just fizzles. The sister and the duke don't have any consequences. We don't get to read about the wedding or the first night. He proposed and then the story is done. The ending was so abrupt I bet the author had a deadline and just finished it to be done. I was left feeling very let down. There was no resolution.
Not bad. My only complaint is the repetitive inner monologues. We know she doesn't want a rake, and we know he suffered from abuse as a child the first time it's mentioned- no need to repeat the statements ad nauseam.
In my mind imogins sister and brother in-law catch each other cheating and die a fiery death in a carriage accident! Yes I’m that bloodthirsty and unforgiving. If this had happened I might have given this book 3.5 stars
3.5/5. Uneven at times with mix up of facts/dates. For example, it went from more than a week has passed to only 4 days since the events of the book started.
I really have loved all the books so far in this series but this one brought tears & heartache to me as I read the life of the Marquis' second son, Lord Alexander Edgerton. His father now dead, beat his children (2 sisters & 2 brothers) & Alex tried to protect his sisters throughout their childhood. His father, when he wasn't beating Alex, verbally abused him that he was no good, would never amount to anything, would never be worthy of anyone's love as he was just a "second son" with no title.
Lady Imogen Moore is attending her 3rd Season & just 3 days before her wedding to a Duke, he called off the betrothal to marry Imogen's younger sister (how could her sister betray her, like that). Now she is fodder for the gossiping members of the Ton.
The pain Alex & Imogen suffered was to sad. Alex was living up to his father's words & is a rogue, gambler & doesn't believe in love. Obviously, Imogen's wounds were from the fresh but her best friend, Chloe (Alex's sister) knows Imogen needs to get back out & face society so they will go on to their next scandal to gossip about. Chloe plays matchmaker to get Alex & Imogen together as she knew they would be perfect for each other. I laughed, I loved their banter & his suggestive racy remarks & how they fell for each other & both fought it so much - especially Alex, as he remembered his father's words & she deserved better than him.
Alex & Imogen just made me happy - they were such a fun, great couple that warmed your heart. I highly recommend this book & this series to all historical romance readers - you won't be sorry you picked up the first book & I know you will want to read them all!

This is the third book in The Heart of a Duke series. It was a pleasant historical romance read. Quite a sweet story but repetitive at times with those inner dialogue paragraphs. A predictable plot with likeable characters who displayed tepid passion. The front cover is by no means an indication of physical intimacy within the story between the Hero and Heroine. Also, a heads up for the abrupt ending.
For Love of the Duke: 3 stars More than a Duke: 3- stars The Love of a Rogue: 3 stars
Lady Imogen Moore hasn’t had an easy time of it since her Come Out three seasons ago. Her betrothed Duke dumped her to marry her sister so she’s become the Ton’s favourite piece of gossip.
Lord Alexander Edgerton carouses with the best of them. He’s a rogue of the most scandalous behaviour. Tired of Alex’s irresponsible ways, his elder brother the Marquess of Waverly charges Alex to chaperone their younger sister who happens to always invite her friend along to the shopping trips, Balls, and theatre visits. This friend captures Alex’s attention.
I prefer sexy times to feature in my favourite books so it rated as an average read for me. Too vanilla, no sprinkles. Interesting, considering the Hero has a rogue reputation so not having stolen intimate moments between the Hero and Heroine seemed odd.
This series is skating along steadily but not fantastically.
