Little Big Heart #4

Little Baby Boy

Rate this book
Two men who aren’t quite sure what they want but know what they need.

My past daddies have been honest about their non-exclusivity. I gave it a try, but deep inside me it hurts. My dream I want a daddy all to myself. I’m young; I’ve got plenty of time. I don’t need to find a daddy right away. I can still go to the kink clubs and happily watch my friends from the sidelines. But it doesn’t seem like the right place to find what I’m looking for.

Until…

He walks in. A tremble rushes over my body. I don’t even know if he’s a daddy but who cares? I can’t breathe.

I allow my old college buddy to drag me to the club because I have nothing else to do on a warm Friday night. It was fun years ago when I was young and wild, but now I want more than hookups and the clubs are not the places to find that.

Lots of leather. Lots of tattoos. Big rooms nicely set up for public whippings, spankings and sex. It’s more crowded than I remember. I’ve come here straight from work. Am I the only one in a suit?

At thirty-five, my libido stirs a bit less at random g-strings with the full package, or harnessed muscles so big most flexibility is lost. It’s all nice, of course, but I long for something else. I just don’t know what that is yet.

Maybe I’ll know when I see it.

Little Baby Boy is a daddy/little MM romance with two men who aren’t quite sure what they want but know what they need. You’ll see a needy bottom who craves to be babied when it comes to comfort and cuddles, a daddy who wants more than hookups, age gap, size difference, praise, stuffies with names, onesies with backflaps, a little who likes to be carried around the house, sweet bath times, generous caregiving and significant heat in the bedroom. Guaranteed HEA. This book is the fourth in my Little Big Heart series, but each book is a standalone read.

Little Baby Boy by Wendy Rathbone is the 4th book in her Little Big Heart series. It is a Daddy/Boy story between a man who didn’t know that he was a daddy and the sweet little boy who won his heart and showed him that was who he truly was. Sage was a senior in college studying psychology but he also knew deep down that he was a little and could even regress into a baby. He had had 3 daddies so far but none of them had cherished him or even liked it when he was a baby and didn’t treat him the way he really wanted to be treated. When he realized his last one was going the same way as the others he called it off and just decided to play at the local club and not look for a daddy there because he wasn’t finding what he needed but he liked being around the other littles. Preston Maddox was a lawyer and had done well for himself. When he was younger he had gone to the club all the time and sampled all of the kinds of activities there were there but hadn’t found one that he wanted to do full time. Then he got busy with college and his job and hadn’t been back until his friend, Charles, asked him to go. When he got there he saw many changes had been made in the last 10 years and that they have had a littles room added. When he looks in the window he sees a young man playing with another and is somehow drawn to him so he goes in and watches. Sage has also noticed him come in and is also attracted but tells himself he doesn’t look like a daddy and he can’t trust his heart again to a one at the club. Soon he regresses into a baby and Very, the boy he is playing with, tells Preston when he comes over that Sage is being different and isn’t talking. But he allows him to pick him up and he holds and cuddles him for an hour. Both men like this very much but then Sage gets up and decides to leave. Preston can’t let him get away so he gives him his card with his telephone number on it and asks him to call him if he’d like to explore more with him. It takes several days with Sage vacillating between telling himself he can’t call him because he could be just like his previous daddies, plus he doesn’t even know if he is one, and the pull to see him again. Finally he gives in and texts him and they arrange a date. They have a good time together and learn about each other and the attraction grows even stronger. Preston tells him he’s never explored being a daddy but would like to do it with Sage, who is still cautious but thrilled. They have another date at Preston’s where they kiss and have a hot love scene and Sage is finding everything he wants in a daddy and when they talk in the morning they decide that Preston has good daddy instincts and seems to know just what Sage needs. They continue to see each other whenever they can between Sage’s classes, his job at the student pub, and Preston’s job and are falling more for each other as they explore being a daddy, boy, and baby boy together. But then something unforeseen happens that stops them from seeing each other. They are both devastated but luckily Preston has found what he was missing in his life and knows how precious Sage is to him and that he won’t give him up so they find a solution and say I love you and know they will be together. I really enjoyed this sweet story. There is a lot of hurt/comfort for Sage and he keeps examining his feelings and decides he won’t take less than what he wants, which is a daddy who will take care of him, see to his needs, and cuddle with him. He doesn’t think he will find that at the club so is very surprised by the pull he has to Preston. Preston hasn’t been satisfied with his love life either and feel the tug to Sage. He has never explored being a daddy but finds it to be something he is very good at with him. As time goes on their attraction grows and they both know they belong together, which Preston takes to heart when the problem comes up. He can find something to replace what might be lost, but he can never replace Sage and shows him this every day. I highly recommend this book, especially if you like hurt/comfort daddy/boy stories where the daddy didn’t know that he was one, the boy has been hurt before but loves showing him how to be a good daddy and meet his needs, and how they learn and play together until they both know they are in love.

(I received an advanced copy, all opinions are mine.)

The premise was cute but the execution not so great I’m afraid.

Preston is not a daddy to start with (and has been away from the kink scene for 10 years) but I don’t think it’s a big problem since Sage “baby boy” persona is very light. He basically wants to be cuddle, not much else. There are baths with toys but it’s not screaming age play. I know every experience is different but this was light for me.

Next we got very little chemistry between those 2 MC and the writing didn’t help. So many short sentences, it felt very choppy and unnatural. It didn’t flow well. (examples below)

Preston himself was also a very bland character. Very cardboard cut character. He’s a lawyer, he’s rich, he worked so much and had not much of a personal life until he met Sage. That’s it.

There’s also too much repetitions about their meeting when they go on their first dates. And things that didn’t make sense like Preston taking an afternoon off to make dinner for their date while the dinner is just spaghetti?!? Also, it was weird to have Preston fing** Sage in the bath, stop and immediately after that wash his hair 😂

At chapter 16 I felt like the spanking really came out of nowhere. They never talked about it and suddenly it’s “so I’ve been spanking him often.” Ok, felt a bit weird, thrown in like that.
>> “The first time I spanked Sage, he said one word. “Harder.” We began a routine of spanking. He’d mouth off and pretend to be bad. That was my cue.“

And speaking of spanking there are no discussions about their limits or safe words which I aways hate. Sage says he doesn’t want s*x while he’s in little headspace but that’s it (and honestly the difference between him being “a big boy” and “a baby boy” is barely there so.🤷🏼‍♀️)

And to finish the third act drama felt really unnecessary IMO. I couldn’t understand how it was a conflict of interest at all and why couldn’t Preston just tell Sage what the situation was instead of ghosting him like that.

Examples of stiff writing that I didn’t like:

“haven’t ever met anyone like you,” I said. ‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌
We walked into the kitchen, carrying our dirty plates.
“I haven’t met anyone like you,” he responded.
He took my plate, rinsed both of them and put them in his dishwasher. Then he opened the fridge. “I have dessert.” He brought out a box of ice cream treats. It said Snickers on the box. He opened it and handed me two.”
————————
“Spanking had been something I loved back in my youth. I guess the thrill hadn’t left me. I loved being the giver in this scene.”

This quote was cute though:
“It was like he was speaking to me with his kiss and his heart. And I could fluently understand the language.”

Daddy/Boy, wonderful story. I became addicted to reading Daddy/Boy stories a year and a half ago. I can't get enough of them and am always looking for new authors and stories. I'm glad when I saw this story and saw it was a new author for me; I wanted to see how well they wrote this storyline. I felt Wendy Rathbone did a good job. I love pretty much all the kinks. Sage has his moments when he needs to feel little and even regress to a baby stage. He needs someone who can take care of him, along with the needs he has. Sage is a senior in college who is learning to be a psychologist. He has had several Daddies in the past, but they didn't fulfill what he wanted or needed. Then there is Preston, who is a lawyer who has built a fantastic career as a lawyer. Preston had done the clubs when he was younger, but at that point in his life, he wasn't ready for that. Now older and wiser, he learns more about himself when his friend Charles asks him to go with him to the club. When these two men met, I wanted to cry. These two were made for each other. I loved the care that Preston shows. Sage is so loving and sweet, which is what he needs. I have read quite a few Daddy/boy stories, and this one hit most of my wants in a story like this. I need more stories from this author since this was my first by them.

LITTLE BABY BOY is the fourth novella in the Little Big Heart series, although you don't need to have read the others to enjoy this one.

This one tells the story of Sage, a Little who hasn't yet found the Daddy he's looking for, and Preston, someone who was in the scene, but left ten years ago to marry his work. Their first meeting is pure happenstance, which they talk about later on. Preston isn't a Daddy, or doesn't think he is, so he works by intuition alone.

LITTLE BABY BOY is a fast-paced, low angst story that follows them through the beginning of their relationship. It is a light read with lots of cuddling and bath times.

I wasn't as invested in this book as others by Ms Rathbone, and I'm unsure as to why. This one felt a little disjointed at times. The time-hops sometimes mentioned things that hadn't been brought up much before, and should have required a conversation between Sage and Preston, but you have to assume it happened. I know it's a novella and is therefore limited in page length or word count, but these were conversations I expected, to make it safe and consensual for both - especially when they're going on intuition alone.

Still, this was a sweet and cute read that I did enjoy, and definitely recommend. 3.5 rounded up.

Sage is looking for the Daddy who will make all his dreams come true. He is have a hard time finding the special man, so much so he is currently not looking so he can just concentrate on his studies. He loves to go to the club in his finest little wear, but he is not "really" looking. While next to another little he notices someone walking in to the littles area... and he appears that he is alone. While working at his job he saw something he should not have seen and now that is becoming a bigger deal.

Preston is late leaving work so he has to meet up with his old friend at the club. He would prefer not to be wearing a suit, but he is also trying to figure out what he wants. It has been something he is trying to figure out and he has no idea. He is older now and really wonders if the club scene is what he is looking for, but then he sees a door and asks his friend what it is. He peeks in and sees someone who peeks his interest. When he goes back the little boy is still there. When he walks in the intense feeling magnifies and he is drawn to this little.

Will Sage have a reaction to Preston? Does Preston know what to do for Sage? Is being a Daddy something Preston wants? Will Sage use the card given to him by Preston to get in touch? Will the two fall fast and hard? Will Sage tell Preston what has happened in his past? Will Preston do what others have done to Sage?

I really loved their story but the ending was very abrupt to me. Something was solved too quickly.

What a wonderful story!

I absolutely loved this book! Sage is a college student and a little. He hasn’t been able to find the Daddy of his dreams but still goes to the club to be little. That’s what he’s doing the night he meets Preston. Preston used to be active in the kink scene but stepped back to focus on his law career. A night out with a friend will lead him to the little room and it will change everything. He never thought about being a Daddy but when he meets Sage in the little room and Sage actually ends up in his baby headspace, something he never does in public, it speaks to something inside Preston. The two give a Daddy/little relationship a try and it turns out Preston is a natural Daddy, and everything Sage has ever wanted. Things are going very well between the two when they hit a bump in the road. It will lead to Preston having to stay away from Sage but after a few days, Preston refuses to wait for HR to give him the answer he wants. He will quit before he leaves Sage and he vows to make it right. Sage will show up unexpectedly and it will give the two a chance to find out exactly what’s been going on between them. It will lead the two down the road to their happily ever after and I love how their story ends.

I read an ARC copy of this book and am volunteering my honest review.

This one was a sweet, easy read — but for me it stayed comfortably in okay territory rather than becoming something truly memorable.

Sage is a little who knows what he needs — to be babied, cuddled, given baths, and genuinely cared for outside the bedroom too. But every Daddy he's had kept the dynamic locked away like a secret, and that was never enough for him. So he keeps looking.

Preston stepped away from the kink scene nearly a decade ago and never really looked back. But one random Friday night, his friend drags him to their old club — and something catches his eye. There's a littles' room now, something he'd never encountered before, and curiosity gets the better of him. That's where he finds Sage. Sitting alone, colouring with quiet focus, no Daddy in sight.

The setup is genuinely lovely and the dynamic between them is warm. Preston barely a day passes before Sage reaches out, and when they meet properly, it clicks easily. Maybe a little too easily for my taste — I wanted more depth from both the connection and the conflict that comes later.

It's a cosy, low-angst read and fans of Daddy/little dynamics will likely enjoy it. It just didn't quite hit the way I was hoping it would.

Sage and Preston are two men who know they want something deeper than casual connections, even if they’re not sure what that looks like yet. Sage dreams of a partner who’s his alone, not the non‑exclusive relationships he’s tried before. Preston, dragged to a club he’s long outgrown, realises he wants more than fleeting encounters too. When they see each other, something clicks — a spark that hints they might have finally found what they’ve both been missing.

Both Sage and Preston want something lasting, and the moment they meet it becomes clear they’re exactly what the other has been searching for. I loved how naturally Preston understood Sage’s needs — almost entirely on instinct — which only highlighted how perfectly they fit together. The story is easy to read and follow, with plenty of warmth as their connection deepens. However, some of the conflicts they faced felt a bit manufactured, which did take away from my overall enjoyment. Still, their chemistry and desire for a real, committed relationship made this a sweet and satisfying read. This was an MM story with mature content and a BDSM-like DDLB dynamic.

Sage and Preston, a lovely age gap book.
Such an adorable story.  Sage is a little who longs for a Daddy, but not just any man.  He craves a man with the gentle touch of hugs.  Preston hasn't partaken
of the kink scene for ten years but his friend Charles takes him to the kink club where he wanders but there was nothing he wanted to partake of.  The "casualness and sweat-drenched flesh" no longer held appeal to him after ten years away. Preston notices a balloon decorated blue door entrance of the Little area, a playroom.  He spies a little alone at a table reading and is intrigued by his calm and quiet vibes.  This begins the story of a Dom and a little where each knows what he desires and fulfills that desire with each other.  Yes, there is s*x but not the volatile style.  This story shows a loving respect for each other.  This was a very satisfying read for the 4th book in this series.  For the ARC I was given this is my honest review.

This is the fourth book in the Little Big Heart series. Each book is a standalone read. This is the story of Sage and Preston. Sage is a little that likes to revert to baby level and he wants lots of cuddling. All of his previous daddies were not big on the cuddles so he is staying alone until he finds the perfect daddy. Preston has been out of the kink scene for over ten years. When he goes to a club with a friend, he is introduced to daddy/little. Something that didn't exist the way it does now. There is instant attraction when they first meet. But Preston isn't a daddy. I guess that they need to talk. This is their story. I received a complementary advanced review copy of this book from the author and I am voluntarily leaving a review. This is a cute and sweet story. I am a big fan of this author but for me, this book was not memorable. The book is written well. It is a cozy, low angst read.

If I had to describe this book in one word I'd say it's sweet. Sage is lovely, knows himself really well and has somewhat given up on finding his perfect daddy. Preston had instant chemistry with him at their first meeting, both romantically and also with how supportive and caring he was. I liked their initial meeting and how this set things up for them with their dates and getting to know each other better. It was an easy, heart-warming read and I don't think it needed any moments of 'conflict' where there were problems to overcome. Some parts jumped a bit or seemed a touch repetitive but it didn't spoil the vibe of the story and the HEA for the characters. I enjoyed the story and, although it wasn't my favourite, I can see lots of the positives and I'm sure others will love it.

I received an ARC and this is my honest review.

I have read all the books in this series...first three were 5 star reads for me and this fourth was just as good. I think the author is really putting out there that it's how you choose to do your dynamic and take a special connection to make that happen. Preston and Sage had that connection from day one. That hour hug was just the best...all the emotional feels with this one. I really don't like angst but Imma give this one a pass...towards the end with that MASSIVE miscommunication between them almost was downer for me...I was so upset almost made me wanna change my rating but this book was so wonderful in many other ways, I just couldn't...Preston was the best...Sage was the sweetest...they are good together...wonderful HEA...I highly recommend if you enjoy sweet daddy/boy romances.

My review
🌕🌕🌕🌗
Really good! I was impressed how intimacy is shown in such varied shades, and how Sage goes from “wishing upon stars that don’t exist” to “this is the man for me”. Their relationship grows fast and strong, but they value more than just one kind of intimacy, and that is lovely to see. Sage teaches Preston that following his instincts is giving him the kind of relationship he’s been looking for. It’s a lovely book, short read, and the usual “break up due to misunderstanding” deal took an interesting turn, so it wasn’t as tropey and overly used as in other books, but it still felt somewhat forced. Cute story, I really like this author, and it’s a book that will leave you with a smile, because two men who aren’t looking for love, find it right in front of them, and have the courage to seize the moment.

I received an ARC and this is my voluntary review.

Little Baby Boy is the 4th book in the Little Big Heart series. This book can be read as a standalone but why not enjoy the whole series. This is a Daddy/little story so if that's not your thing this book might not be for you. This is the story of Sage and Preston. I fell in love with Sage from the start and wanted him to have the daddy he deserved. Preston is the perfect partner even though being a daddy is new to him. I loved these two so much, their chemistry and communication made them right for each other. This was a low angst story with the perfect amount of steam. I hope we get more stories in this series. I would definitely recommend this book and series.

This was not it. I expected a little who regressed to a young age and a Dom who explores being a daddy. That’s sort of what I got. Sage is a little who goes into this “baby boy” mode and wants to cuddle that’s basically it. Like he doesn’t do anything else that I would say is babyish (at least from what I remember), so I dont know why he feels the need to distinguish when he’s little and when he’s a baby. Preston is bland, he doesn’t have a personality and he’s the least dominant Dom there is. I just wasn’t feeling this book. For it being a short book it felt like forever before I finished it.

I have read all the books in this series and this one is my favorite thus far. Why you might ask it’s because of the characters of Preston and Sage. Sage is a little who’s given up on love and monogamy destined to be part of non exclusive relationships whereas Preston is a daddy and he didn’t even know he needed a little. He didn’t even know he was a daddy. This wonderfully sweet low Ink feel good fluffy heartfelt romance is just what one needs and a time of darkness and difficulty in the world. You will smile you will laugh and you will believe in love again ever after. Watching both men figure out what they need and express what they need makes this book perfection.

Daddy Preston and his Baby Boy Sage

Both men were looking for something but didn’t know what it was until that day at the club when they first met. Preston never was a Daddy and never really knew about littles until he went into the little room at the club. When Sage saw Preston it triggered his baby self and he wanted or needed to be held. That was the start and they both had to learn about each other. Then because of Preston’s job he almost lost his baby boy and that can’t happen.

I thought that this book was really sweet with just a touch of drama. Sage is trying to figure out what type of Daddy he wants/needs in live. Preston is just dipping his toes back into the kink world but he never expected to see and fall for Sage. These two move pretty fast but when luck or fate is involved you don't question things. I really enjoyed this book and I am looking forward to more from Wendy soon.

This story was sooooooooo sweet!!! My heart absolutely melted 💖
The meet-cute between Preston and Sage was simply perfect and just meant to be.
I loved reading about the evolution of their relationship, the closeness they shared, and how it grew emotionally and then physically - the way they went about getting to know each other just showed that this was for the long-haul and not just a fling.
The intimate scenes were super hot, but also had tender elements.
There was a bit of angst towards the end that had me worried, but ultimately love won and we all just love that kind of a story.

This book delivers exactly what the title indicates. Sage wants someone in his life, but he has not found the right person. Preston is a lonely workaholic who does not know what he needs. When they see each other at a club, something clicks between them. Despite not looking for it, Sage and Preston find exactly what they need in each other.
This is a really sweet story. I enjoyed the comfort Sage and Preston found in caring for each other. There is a lot of age play, that is not something I generally read but it was nicely done in the story.

This was such a wonderful Daddy/little story. Sage completely stole my heart; he’s just adorable. I loved watching Preston step into a world that was totally new to him and still be such a naturally caring Daddy. The bit of unexpected angst was a nice touch, and Wendy Rathbone wrote it in a way that made me really feel what the characters were going through. I’m also super curious about Very after his brief appearance. Overall, the whole book felt like one big, warm hug, just like something Sage would love.

This was a sweet mm romance with daddy & little dynamics. Sage and Preston are the perfect match, and I loved seeing their bond develop.
Preston steps right into the daddy role by instinct despite it being new to him, and Sage gets to let go and be himself completely including all stages of his little self.
They had great communication and chemistry, it was low drama, medium spice, and has a sweet ending.

I received a copy of this book from Gay Romance Reviews, and this is my honest review.

This story was so cute. I loved Sage. I felt so bad for him because he couldn't find his forever daddy for being needy. And then, Preston was just perfect for him. I loved seeing their relationship bloom together and how Preston just naturally became Sage's daddy, as this is his first time. I really enjoyed myself reading this book.

This is probably my favorite book in the series so far. I thought the story was sweet. I devoured this in one day. It is a shorter book but it didn't feel rushed. It could have been longer since Preston is a new daddy but I didn't feel adding length to account for that was necessary. I wish there was an additional scene or two with younger play since that was important to Sage about being comfortable with that and triggered by Preston.

Little Baby Boy is the fourth book in the Little Big Heart series and can be read as a standalone. I think Sage and Preston really work well for each other, while they are daddy/little they are both very light daddy/little in my opinion. Wanting cuddles and baths, even wanting carried, seems like normal relationship wants, not necessarily a kink, again it's just my opinion. I still enjoyed this story and the characters very much.

Even though it is a book that can be read perfectly well on its own, I wonder why you would do that 😉

Time and again, Wendy manages to touch me with her characters and stories.
The way she writes and how the characters fit together ensures that the book puts a smile on my face every time.

I am already looking forward to her next book.

Out of the entire series, this book was my favorite, but the whole series was just fine. Something about the writing felt off. It was still a short, interesting read. I enjoyed reading about Preston and Sage’s relationship. The ending felt heavy, which I really enjoyed, but it felt sudden and random. I wish it would have developed earlier in the book.

Sage wanted a Daddy of his own, exclusivity. Preston had never been a Daddy but he wants something more than his past relationships and when he sees Sage as a Little in the club, he is captivated. They are both at a crossroads in their lives. Preston didn't know what he was looking for. Sage had given up on what he wanted. It's so sweet and tender with two guys working their way into a relationship that makes you go "awwhh!", what a Daddy/Boy should be like .

This book, a standalone and number 4 in the Little Big Heart series, was so sweet it almost gave me a cavity and I loved it! This was a lovely low angst, age gap story with lots of cuddles; a little hiccup towards the end but ultimately resolved. Sage and Preston both end up with exactly what they need, even if they weren’t both certain at the beginning. This book is a must for any lovers of sweet Daddy / Boy romances.

This book was a quick read for me, introducing Preston to the Daddy lifestyle and what being a caregiver to a little means... for the most part it was a sweet and spicy story with cuddles, comfort and praise. I found a few things that took me out of the story a bit - a lack of clear conversation around limits and safe vwords, blurred lines between 'big' and 'little' Sage and how that impacted intimacy, but overall it was a nice read and it was lovely to see a HEA that they both wanted.
