A rockstar who lost his sound. A writer who lost the plot. Now they're about to lose their minds – over each other. Sleeping with your enemy is one thing. Needing him to write is another.
Cleo Sullivan is broke, blocked, and one missed deadline away from tanking her writing career. Her plan: pet-sit in a remote Highland cottage, finish her novel, and get back to the US.
Scottish singer/ songwriter Lucas Kincaid has no address. He also hasn't written a tune in years. But if he doesn't finish an album in three months, his label is going to drop him. So he drives to his late gran's cottage for peace, quiet, and inspiration.
Hard fail.
Cleo is already there. She chases him with a toilet brush. He throws her in the loch. It's hell. But neither of them is willing to leave.
Crammed into the cottage for one summer, their hatred turns into reluctant attraction. Until a night by the bonfire leads to a hormonal error in judgment. And a creative breakthrough.
So they make sleeping together a professional arrangement. Just to save their careers. Strict boundaries. No feelings. Easy, right?
But as summer is ending, Cleo and Lucas have to decide: Is this love – or just the best work they've ever produced?
------ Hot Scot Summer is a sizzling and laugh-out-loud spicy enemies-to-lovers romcom with a dual first person POV that's set in the Scottish Highlands. It's the first book in the Thistle Glen series and can be read as a standalone.
For fans of high-heat enemies-to-lovers romcoms, forced proximity that won't let you breathe, and rockstar heroes who fall first and hard.
Hot Scot Summer also has ADHD representation, a treehouse, grief that hits you when you're not looking, and a guaranteed HEA (the kitchen table will never recover.)
Beatrice Bradshaw crafts spicy contemporary romances set across Scotland – whisking readers away to glens and windswept coastlines without the need for a plane ticket!
Romance novelist Cleo, having recently walked in on her boyfriend being virtually serviced by a W0rld of Warcraft character, decides a change of scenery is in order to break her writer’s block before her publisher claws back the advance she can’t afford to repay. When she lands a pet sitting gig for a hilarious goat and a sweet tuxedo cat in a remote but idyllic cottage in the Scottish hinterlands, she is quickly disturbed to find out she’s not alone…
Singer songwriter Lucas has led a nomadic existence for over a decade, since his early success and the loss of his mother. Staring down the barrel of a deadline for which he has no material nor inspiration, he decides to sequester himself into his Gran’s tiny cottage where he has distant but fond memories of long days spent among his cousins before the family schism tore them apart. When he walks in on a gorgeous blonde American, the fireworks between them are instant and incendiary, in more ways than one.
As they both come to the realization that they’ll have to share the very tight quarters, an uneasy truce is reached. In short order, however, both Cleo and Lucas find themselves unable to resist the temptation the other possesses, and as their delightfully steamy physical encounters yield professional fruit, they decide a no strings summer fling is just the thing.
Real feelings and careless words combine to drive them an ocean apart. Can either of them bridge the chasm that lies between them to reach for something more?
I loved this truly funny romcom liberally peppered with spicy open door scenes. Cleo’s neurodivergence (in her case quite debilitating ADHD), and the way in which Lucas detaches from any and all close emotional connections are both portrayed well, and not played for fun or quirkiness. Cleo’s friends are supportive and encouraging, and Beau in particular pulls some serious ride or die moves in the third act to show up for Cleo.
I was generously provided an advance reader copy from the author, and I’m pleased to share my honest review.
I received a free ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review - thank you to the author!!
4 stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐ I really enjoyed this enemies to lovers romance! I loved the remote Scotland setting that added a lot of charm and unique settings, and I appreciate the author's work of ensuring it feels genuinely like Scotland and not just like they visited once for a week and wrote a book about the location.
The characters felt like they had a genuine enemy start to their relationship, which I think a lot of enemies to lovers books fail to do. But their progression into the relationship was realistic and natural. I liked seeing the MCs slowly lower their walls and discover that there was more to each other than the first impression.
Two very small critiques - (1) I wish the orc story was not part of the book. That just felt awkward in an uncomfortable and cringey way, not in an awkward funny way. (2) My biggest issue was with the ending (NO spoilers here I promise!). While I appreciated the emotional resolution, I was left with questions about what the characters' future would realistically look like. The story didn't provide enough detail about how they would navigate some of the practical challenges they face, which made the conclusion feel a bit incomplete to me. A little more development in that area would have made the ending feel more satisfying and believable.
4.5 ⭐️ 🌶️🌶️1/4 - slightly more than medium spice, many explicit scenes throughout 1st person, dual POV
The hilarious meet-cute (or meet-not-so-cute) had me cracking up and that’s pretty much the way this book went for me! It was a little ridiculous at times, but so much fun 😆
I loved the dynamic between Lucas and Cleo—where it started and where it evolved to. They kinda hated each other at first, but in a we’re-getting-off-on-infuriating-each-other way. The “professional” arrangement *wink wink* ended up basically setting them up to be each other’s muse, which was delightful. And through all this, they actually got to know each other and led to love in the quiet, simple moments. 🥰
“There are love stories, and then there’s a man looking at your mess and asking if he can live there.”
I really appreciated the neurodivergent rep. This felt like one of the most accurate portrayals of ADHD I’ve ever read in a book. We could actually see the way her brain worked and the results of that on the page.
This was the story of two people who’d lost a lot in life and had given up on love, deciding to stay and choose each other. So sweet!
Thanks to the author for the advance copy 💝 *Releases on the author’s Shopify on June 23rd and widely on June 30th!
Cleo Sullivan has lost the ability to write, and Lucas Kincaid has lost the ability to write a new song. Both of them are broke, blocked and looking for a change in the Scottish Highlands cottage. Lucas doesn’t tell his cousin Nick he’s coming but Nick had hired a pet sitter for his cat, Furlock Holmes, and goat, Dr Goatson. Cleo isn’t leaving and neither is Lucas. Will they ever get any work done or will the arrangement end them both?
The scenes in this book made me laugh so hard, especially the toilet scene. Such a fun enemies-to-lover romcom with forced proximity and SPICE. The soul crushing grief was so relatable as well as the ADHD. The writing and character development and world-building was wonderful, and I absolutely loved the sidekick pets! I could read this one over and over. “Why can’t I have love that stays? Why am I so alone? Is this how it’s going to be forever? What is wrong with me?” is the best line EVER and so relatable. Dinner was late because I had to finish it before I could make dinner.
Hot Scot Summer was tremendous. I loved it so much and it gave me so many feels. I enjoyed the story and felt the premise was strong. The cover is beautifully designed. It's so bright and colourful which makes it eye-catching. The artwork is really well done too. The writing was excellent and the story flowed beautifully. The book is written in first person and from dual points of view - Cleo's and Lucas's. This works perfectly for a romance novel! The setting was so quaint and cosy. Beatrice always creates the most beautiful places and her world-building is beautiful. I loved the characters. Lucas and Cleo were fun. The two of them made me laugh so hard. Their bickering was hilarious. I loved the dynamic between them and how their story unfolded. The show was stolen however by Furlock Holmes, Dr Goatson and the other fur babies! They were the sweetest. I cannot recommend enough and can't wait to read more in the Thistle Glen series!
There are several reasons to read this one besides the 'hot scot' energies, but whew! Those energies kept these pages flipping!!
Cleo and Lucas have amazing chemistry between them and being in a small home together for weeks - well, it's inevitable that things are going to happen. Neither of them are in a good position professionally or personally at the start, and I enjoyed the comical and spirited nature of their beginning. A writer who can't find her words, and a singer who can't find his song... big problems that take a lot of "inspiration" to jump start the creativity! Ooooh, so steamy. *wink*
This story is easy to connect with and I found myself really attached to their situation. I loved how invested her friends are, and the way his family storyline resolved.
I can't wait for the next one in this series, and recommend reading this and others from this creative author.
Fortunate to receive an ARC, I happily leave my thoughts.

Oh my lord…. this made me laugh so hard. The meet-cute was certainly not cute at all. It was an absolute riot, and I just want to go back and read that part over, and over again.
Their arrangement is hot and steamy, and they have so much chemistry. I was never quite sure if they were going to steam up or explode. And I adored seeing their feelings evolve. But, so much hurt in this too, which surprised me.
“Why can’t I have love that stays? Why am I so alone? Is this how it’s going to be forever? What is wrong with me?”
Devastating, and heartbreaking, and I really needed the author to not do this to me before the HEA… which was gorgeous, and so them… by the way.
Thanks, Beatrice, for the advance copy. Such a wonderful introduction to your writing.
5+ ⭐️ Ooooooo I loved this book!!!! I was hooked from the very first page until the last and I’m so sad it’s finished… I wholeheartedly love Cleo and Lucas and their love story. This book contains so many funny and hilarious moments: the toilet brush, Cleo in the loch, the conversation between Lucas and Beau at his appartement… I could picture it all and it made me so happy. I was rooting for them both since the beginning, add some little fur babies and I’m in love! Their chemistry is off the charts and her friends are such great side characters. I received a copy and I’m leaving this review voluntarily. I think it’s very clear that I absolutely love this story, it made me laugh and happy the entire time. I cannot wait to read another story by Beatrice!
Loved this book so much I just couldn't put it down until I had finished it. It made me laugh out loud and cry quietly! The chemistry between the two main characters - Cleo and Lucas - is off the wall to say the least! The supporting characters in the form of Cleo's American friends added depth to the story. I particularly liked how the two pets - Fulock Holmes and Dr Goatson - fitted in so well within the overall story. I would highly recommend reading this lovely book. This is the first book I have read by this author and it won't be the last.... I was fortunate enough to receive an ARC of this book from the author and this is my honest review.
The crazy, unhinged fighting between Cleo and Lucas in Hot Scot Summer was so good, I almost didn't want their relationship to deepen! I just wanted to keep laughing at the next altercation. There is some seriously great comedy in this book. Scottish sky piranhas, a goat chewing Marc Jacobs, the puns, the nicknames. Then there are the spicy scenes. If you've never read Beatrice Bradshaw before, you're in for a treat. And if you're familiar with her books, you will not be disappointed! 🌶️🌶️🌶️
Thank you to Literary Inspired for an eARC in exchange for an honest review.
What a great start to this new Thistle Glen series. I enjoyed how both Cleo and Lucas are both procrastinating for similar life changing issues. The description of Scottish life, beautiful scenery, interesting weather and the bitey bastards was spot on. Plenty of heart felt moments as well as hilarious interactions in total rom com style. I loved Dr Goatson, Furlock and the chaos that ensued. Will make you laugh, cry and warm your heart. Can't wait to find out more about the people of Thistle Glen and beyond. Great read. I couldn't put down
Hot Scot Summer was the perfect romcom in book form. Cleo was funny, sassy, and a hot mess in a way that so relatable it was spooky! I absolutely loved reading about an ADHD heroine in a romance novel! I laughed, I swooned, and I cried reading this book. Cleo and Lucas have a story that is raw and real in a way that makes you feel like they could be people you meet at the grocery store and are immediately jealous of but still feel like a new best friend couple. I can not wait to read the rest of the series!

What a great feel good book! Cleo is an absolutely relatable hot mess in the best way! Lucas is a brooding rock star with a highland burr....(Yummy!). These two are hilarious and seriously steamy right from the start. They complement each other and the storyline moves with them as they try to heal old wounds and make the most of their lives. The steamy times are seriously good and the humor is off the charts! Loved it from start to the last page!
MFC was so unlikeable, bad tempered and rude, I just could not be bothered. It annoys me that a man would fall for a bad tempered woman just because she is beautiful. Wrong message to both sexes. I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own. I received a complimentary copy of this book. Meet Cleo and Lucas. They essentially have a meet-cute, but is it really? These two will have you laughing and giggling. The interplay is top-notch, the story is well written and has a natural flow. I love the cheeky names of the pets too! New author for me and I’m a huge fan. Spice is 🌶️🌶️🌶️ and stars are 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
I love stories like these. They're funny and cute (at times) and sexy and just so nice to sit and relax with. A rockstar and an author is not a pairing often in these types so it's an added layer to it too! Cleo and Lucas are both fantastic and perfect for one another. Opposites attract and all that. Really hoping book 2 is about Cailean!
Really, really, really enjoyed this book. Love enemies to lovers, and this did not disappoint! Funny, heartwarming, and satisfying to read. The characters were realistic and the dialogue was fab. As someone who works in mental health, appreciate the accurate backstory with ADHD. So good!

This is an okay read for me. It’s not my favorite. But a 3 star read isn’t necessarily a bad rating for me because it’s just an average read. The story was just a maybe for me because the characters did not got any attention from me. Do I recommend the book? Yes. My opinion maybe different from yours and I can still recommend the book. One thing I disliked is the glossary part of the story.
The truth is, I didn’t expect the book to be like this. It’s pretty good and a quick read, but for me it’s a 3 star book because part of me just couldn’t really connect with the characters. It’s also true that the vocabulary is sometimes a little hard to understand. In any case, insta a good read for passing the time.
Cleo is a romance writer with no romance and Lucas is a singer/song writer with no song and they meet at a cute Scottish cabin and sparks fly. This is a forced proximity romance, can they help each other's writer's block and form the romance of their lives? Great novel.
Refreshing funny summer read which was exactly what I needed. A great palette cleanser after some heavier material. Realistic depiction of life with ADHD and the problems that can cause.
This was a lovely close proximity book. Cloe and Lucas have both lost so much, their barriers are well and truly up but they chip away and eventually, the knock through. Lovely story
ARC review. Took some time out of my ice hockey era to read another fun book by Beatrice. A fun summer romance to start another new romcom series. Found family, one bed and a furry surprise.
