Expected 8 Oct 26*
Winter is often seen as a season for retreat – a time to draw our seats up close to the hearth and wait for spring. But what if the cold months hold their own magic?
In The Season of Frost and Fire, green witch Rebecca Beattie shares thirteen luminous rituals to guide us through the darkest days – from fire rituals that welcome in the winter and banish fears on stormy nights to comforting ceremonies that honour our desire for inspiration and transformation.
Discover the tarot cards that will light our path from the first frost to the thaw of early spring. Meet the forgotten goddesses who will become our companions and guides in the shadows. Hear bewitching tales of shapeshifting beings and thin veils between mist-covered worlds. Even in winter's quiet, Beattie reveals the warmth, wisdom and renewal alive beneath the surface of things.

Firstly I’d like to say a huge thank you to the lovely folks at Elliott & Thompson for sending me a gorgeous finished copy of this book to read and review ahead of it’s publication on the 8th of October.
I loved this book so much. I’ve always had an interest in Witchcraft and Wicca so it really appealed to me.
The book consists of 13 chapters. Each takes you through a different part of winter. We go from Halloween (November Eve) right through until February the 1st. (Imbolc)
We learn about a new Tarot card for each chapter (I have actually purchased the Tarot Deck mentioned in the book and I cannot wait to learn all about Tarot!) these give insight into what stage of winter you are in and how the meaning behind the imagery lends itself to the rituals and spell casting. There are also folklore tales throughout (which I adored) and journaling exercises to try out.
The writing felt very much as if you were sitting with a friend and they were telling you stories and teaching you new and wonderful things.
I have never read a book quite like this one before. It felt so much like a magical witchy self help book, and it is very much one I will return to this coming winter and the winters to follow.
I highly recommend it. A fascinating, compulsively readable and endlessly intriguing book. Just perfect!

I really enjoyed sinking into this one. It's the kind of book that makes winter feel like something to look forward to rather than endure, blending folklore, tarot, forgotten goddesses, and gentle seasonal rituals into a genuinely nourishing companion for the darker months. What stood out most was how grounded it felt in the natural world without being preachy about it. Beattie writes with real warmth, and the rituals feel accessible rather than overly prescriptive, more like guidance from a wise friend than a rigid how to guide. The mix of storytelling, myth, and practical seasonal practice worked well together, and I liked that it doesn't just focus on the darkness of winter but actively looks for the light and renewal within it. A cozy, thoughtful read that would make a lovely gift heading into the colder months.

This is a book to savour during the dark winter months. Although read on a kindle, I feel a written copy would be enjoyed more, with the ability to dip in and out easily, and would make an excellent gift. The book covers many things - rituals and celebrations , folklore, nature, astronomy, Tarot, nurturing, mythology, reflection, journaling, spell working and goal setting to name but a few. Thank you to NetGalley, the author and the publisher for the review copy.

I love how the author has taken one of the darkest times of year and filled it with light. The rituals in this book will guide you through easily as well as help you find the ight in the darkest time of year. It is a perfect gift for anyone, especially those who struggle with this time of year.
