Ondine chose her future. She jumped. And everything changed. Now Altered in body and thrust into a culture she barely understands, Ondine must navigate a world far more complicated than she ever imagined. Her transformation has consequences she never anticipated, ones that reach beyond her own fate to Regiatus, the people she loves, and the fragile balance of Neridia itself. As buried truths about her past come to light, the cost of her choice becomes impossible to ignore.
Worse still is the power awakening in her blood—ancient, volatile, and disturbingly indifferent to her will. When a devastating attack leaves Neridia reeling, Ondine is forced to confront the force within her. If she cannot learn to wield it, she may become the very thing that destroys the world she chose to save.
As you would expect for book 2 in a series, things really start to escalate in this story, with Ondine dealing with the various ramifications of her decision at the end of book 1 and tensions heightening on every side.
Despite this, you'll still find Wheeler's vivid descriptions, a deepening of this well-crafted world and its history, and lots of lyrical writing.
Love love love love loved it. It has been glued to my hands as soon as it was released. Ondine’s story is so relatable - I want to alter next!
Definitely binge worthy! And now that I inhaled it, I plan on reading it again to really soak up all the beautiful details in Sarah’s writing. I love that way all the twists and turns and come together. I don’t know how many times I was shocked (in the best way) by how the story plays out!
This world is unreal and I’m obsessed! I adored the first one and was so delighted by the continuation of this story. Ondine’s growth post alteration and coming into her power was so inspiring. And I love how Cannon supported and stood by her through it all. Waverley’s bravery and insights, Mael, and Neo and the desire for family and connection. It was all so relatable and told in such a unique way. So looking forward to what’s next!
This book was incredible! It's not often for me that a second book is better than the first, but that is true in this case. And that says a lot because the first book in this trilogy was so incredibly good! Wow, just wow! These books have become an absolute favorite for sure!
