Look. Maybe I’m just BAD at handling romance plots. I’m not sure. Please do not take my review at heart, this is just a personal opinion.

I really don’t see the significance of the rich guy’s character being introduced now. Like, NOW. Of all times. I feel the story is getting too jumbled up and stretched at this point. It could have just ended without all these plots being added on and on, it feels pretty overwhelming and too unnecessarily quick.

I’m trying to read more historical romance so this was okay. The substance of the story itself felt a little lackluster. Trying to be engaged started to dissipate when she was staying with the Prince. The majority of her stay on the island until the discovery of how she ended up there was nicely paced despite the predictability. However, when she’s back with her father and going on with the arrangement of the marriage. It started to scatter for me since I do root for the characters when they are trying to deepen their sense of self and the investment of the relationship. I love a good romance where they build each other up and overcome obstacles but I was not satisfy as much as I wanted to be with these characters.

Still, I enjoyed Satoko building up confidence in her emotions that motivated her to keep going and accept her feelings for Shinpei during the separation. In her final moments, you get to see that she cherishes Shinpei and just tries to be a traditional wife for him as much as she can. I loved the panels of how she remembers him.

Shinpei, ahhh!! He was up and down and then lower. Sometimes it concerned me if certain fights would be the end of him. The way he kept spiraling out of control and not finding ways to ground himself. I understand Sakoto gets him to confront his role as an assassin. It just wasn't enough, he just kept getting intense. It got too severe to the point where he put her in a dire situation that I didn’t want to see her in. I wanted to see him be more interdependent while they were separated such as his continuation of self improvement or at least something like that.

The ending is mediocre because again we see development within Satoko in terms of navigating through love and the way she starts to live after surviving like her using her first salary to send the letter. However, Shinpei just lives aimlessly with no ambition which was how he was from the start. The only difference was at the end of his life, he just stayed true to his promise. I was hoping that somewhere he would be empowered just in the same way Satoko found within herself despite the limitations of her health. The codependency of her existence defined the remainder of his life, and I felt the grief could’ve been used in a different sense to shape him up.

All in all, the appeal of the story was a selling point to read but I was hoping for an emotional intensity as a reader to this love story.

E adesso chi aspetta fino a Luglio??

Got me tearing up for my fave toxic couple 😢. Had to deduct for lack of build up, or direction. It went from pure chaos to...welp here we are. Feels like they are rushing the ending a bit, which is a shame.
