Two Kingdoms. One Prophecy. An Alliance that could save or destroy them. As Malia and Talan balance on the strings of fate another force rises from the shadows. Will they be stronger together or tear each other apart…
I finished the beta reader version of The Alliance, and while I’m holding off on a final star rating until I read the fully published version releasing in July 2026, I really enjoyed getting an early look at this world and story.
This book includes several tropes I always love seeing in fantasy romance: forced proximity, enemies to lovers, one bed, and the classic “who did this to you?” moment. It also weaves in shifters, elemental magic, and political intrigue, which added a lot of depth to the story and worldbuilding.
I especially enjoyed the tension between the characters and seeing how their relationships evolved throughout the book. The magic elements and political dynamics kept things interesting, and there were definitely moments that had me eager to keep reading to see what would happen next.
Overall, this was a fun beta read experience, and I’m looking forward to seeing how the final polished version comes together ahead of its July 2026 release.
I was a Beta reader for this book, so not including a rating on an unfinished version… but this book is for you if you like wolf shifter romantasy, twists and turns, magic, and fierce females.
Wow! This book had me on edge for the ENTIRE read! It was that sweet spot of almost unbearable, but bearable (at least for me). I’m a mood reader who tends to read cozy with little to no angst, so this darker book was outside my norm but a super good read. I received the ebook in exchange for an honest review. 🫶🙌
The FMC Malia is so FIERCE and Selfless- I love that about her. The MMC Talon, we don’t get to know him very much. He’s very broody and mysterious, but I can’t wait to learn more about him in the next book! Malia, this poor girl is put through the Wringer!!!! Wow!
The tension between Malia and Talon is thick, and I spent half the book screaming at them “just stop fighting and GET IT ON already!!!!” 👀🫶🫠❤️🔥😆😂😂😂 But seriously, this book is about a marriage of alliances, hidden wounds, secrets, amazing friendship bonds and so much more.
The world building is fabulous — it feels dark and rich, without becoming an oppressive reading experience (at least for me, I know things are so subjective for us readers). The ending was a cliffy that left me dying to know what happens next!
I’m very excited to read book 2 — I just hope my heart can handle whatever VN Wolf dishes out next! 🤗🙌🫠💗🤣
If you love enemies to lovers, NobleDark worlds, elemental magic, fae, shifters, hidden wounds & secrets, fierce FMCs and broody MMCs then this book is for you! 🫶❤️🔥 Full of angst and slow burn 🤣🤣But, you will be rewarded for that slow burn… 😏
Malia a weapon hidden behind the face of a princess is getting ready to marry her enemy Talan in order to form an alliance between their two kingdoms.
She’s not going to make it easy on him. She bends to no one but as fate would have it, her enemy is her mate. Talan is closed off to her and isn’t willing to open the bond between them, keeping his walls up.
Malia can only laugh that fate would give her a reluctant mate and all she wants is to have a connection with him, but it’s easier said than done, trust needs to build between them.
She’s hiding a secret that could be her end, she wields powerful magic something she had kept hidden, but with danger looming, it becomes a battle of survival and she would do everything to protect her mate 💕
What an amazing debut from @v.n.wolf.writes once I started this book, I couldn’t put it down I was hooked, from the world building, to the characters especially Malia she’s such a strong FMC but she can show her vulnerability as well, knowing that her bond with Talon is fragile, they both carry scars from their past.
Be prepared to be immersed in a world of elemental magic, battles, sword fighting ,slow burn, enemies to lovers, an arrange marriage romantasy story that will have you captivated 💕
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
First of all, huge thank you to V.N. Wolf for trusting me with this beta read because getting to spiral over this early was such a fun experience. 🖤
This romantasy had arranged marriage, enemies to lovers, fated mates, morally grey energy, shadow magic, found family, and forced proximity basically a lot of things that immediately pull me into a story.
The romance is definitely more of a glacial burn, which is not always my personal preference, but the tension and emotional push and pull kept me invested the entire time.
There were also a couple lines that genuinely stuck with me, especially: 🖤 “This place became my escape. I could hide in any one of these books and no one and nothing could find me.” Which honestly felt painfully relatable to me.
And: 🖤 “The name of a wild spirit who can never be broken.” Which captured the essence of the character.
One of my favorite additions was the group of women protecting those who could not protect themselves. They really resonated with me in a personal level.
A few side characters appeared somewhat abruptly at times which briefly confused me, but overall I was fully invested and that ending made me immediately need book two because excuse me??
If you love romantasy with emotional tension, morally grey energy, shadow magic, and characters trying to survive fate, duty, and each other… definitely keep this one on your radar.
This book has it all: enemies to lovers, fated mates, arranged marriage, slow-burn romance and characters who constantly tested my patience…. and I loved it!
Malia is so much more than she seems on the surface. She may be a princess, but she definitely hasn't had the luxury of living like one. I loved watching her prove just how strong she really is.
I spent so much time wanting to reach through the pages and strangle the stubbornness out of Talan. The man expected Malia to hand over all of her secrets while being an absolute jerk.
Carvae and Kazi are loyal, protective, and more than willing to put Talan in his place. I love Kazi! She'd much rather stab a man than deal with one.
I respected that energy.
As for Malik, Yeah, well, I’m reserving my judgment until the next book.
There was so much I loved about this story, but I have so many questions! I need answers, and I need them ASAP! I can’t believe this is V.N. Wolf’s debut book. I’ll absolutely be waiting impatiently for book two.
I need to take a second to appreciate the cover. Huge kudos to @sirenjazzydesigns. because it is absolutely stunning and fits this story perfectly.
Just WOW! 🤯 If a book could have you at Hello, this would be it! Go ahead and judge it by it's stunning cover and all it's amazing tropes; one tent, arranged marriage, fated mates, touch him/her and i, found family, forced proximity, enemies to....more, slow burn, f*** it moment, and everyone's grumpy because you won't regret it! The character growth and relationships are incredible. The fierce princess, Malia, with secrets you'll never guess and a swoon worthy Prince of Shadows AKA The Demon Wolf, Talan, with a past unknown, forced to marry. Two worlds collide trying to save their people and uncover the truth. Let's not forget the side characters, Malak and Varmier, who will also pull on your heart strings and have you in your feelings. Oh and the world building, love it!!! This book was beautifully written and it will pull you in and ruin you. It will make you laugh, it will make you cry, and it will leave you wanting more! I highly recommend you grab your tissues and whatever emotional support you may use and get started on this book now. You'll thank me later. 😘
This was a great read! I devoured it and was absolutely CRUSHED at the ending. I didn’t want it to end but that cliffhanger made it even worse 😭
Malia is forced into a marriage for an alliance between their kingdoms to ensure peace. Peace that their land has not seen in some time. Malia has been trained to obey her Kings commands, no matter how much he is not truly her King she still obeys. But maybe that is about to change now that her mother has been murdered and she is no longer in his grasp. I loooove fated mates and this was the best combo. “My enemy, my other half.” 😈
Malia’s back story was so tragic. But when Talan learns the truth I adored the destruction he pursued on her behalf. And Malias huntress sisters are by far my favorite side characters. 🥹 “You should not need to carry the burdens that you do. Not alone.”
And I love that there’s different animal shifters!!! So freaking cool.
I can’t wait to read book 2. I need more of these shifters!
Thank you V.N. Wolf and R&R Booktours for my eARC 🫶🏼
I had the honor of beta reading this book and my sleep schedule absolutely paid the price for that decision.
I stayed up ALL NIGHT and devoured this in one sitting because apparently I have no self-control when kingdoms, arranged marriages, and political disaster are involved.
Two kings of warring nations decide the best way to build an alliance and maybe bring peace to the land is to force their children into an arranged marriage.
Naturally… the chaos said bet.
The plots were plotting. The twists had me yelling WTF at my Kindle. The burn was beyond slow… like glacial with tension and attitude. And all the Romantasy tropes were sitting there looking pretty while ruining my peace.
This debut came in swinging, and I am absolutely keeping VN Wolf on my radar.
Honest non spoiler arc review . Thank you V for accepting me 🖤
I absolutely adored this book , the main characters ? Enemies to lovers one hundred percent perfect way to describe them. The dislike for each other starts the moment they meet. But It is a slow burn, so when they decide to stop being stubborn it’s worth it .
I loved the fated mates trope in this book , it literally took the enemies to lovers and said ha good luck now, what are you going to do about it . There were so many twists and turns throughout the story , it really did keep me engaged and interested, I really liked how the world building wasn’t all at once, it grew with the story. That’s something I really appreciate as someone who doesn’t read a lot of romantasy .
Now excuse me while I go yell at the author for that ending! What do you mean I have to wait for book two to find out what happened ?!
Thank you so much to V.N. Wolf for honoring me with being able to read this novel early. 4.2/5.0 This story was really good for a debut novel!! Well written, slower paced, quick read. I love that the world building develops as the story goes on and not all up front. I wouldnt call this true enemies to lovers, more like enemy kingdoms forcing two people into marriage to lovers plot. There was no real hatred among the two and not for long. I could feel all the main character's personalities. Well described. My favorite part was the women characters backing up and protecting each other, like sisterhood. The fierceness that the women characters were written with was great. I did enjoy the story and with that ending 😬 I definately will be reading book 2 to see what happens!! Its 203 pages of well worth picking up and enjoying!!
This book has it all. Enemies to not totally enemies, arranged marriage, feminine rage, f-it moment, and so much more.
I ate this book up. The character development is a slow burn throughout the book. The heartbreak is palpable. The ending will leave you shocked.
Our MMC is a hot wolf shifter who is grumpy and quiet with secrets and snark, but he warms his way into your heart. He is protective and loyal. Not to be dramatic, but I would die for this man.
Our FMC has had a rough and emotionally painful life. She has been through so much, yet she keeps her head up and continues to move forward. She is a force to be reckoned with.
BUT THAT ENDING!!! Yeah, I stared at the wall for a solid 5 minutes trying to get my bearings. Do yourself a favor and have a glass of water on standby. You will gasp so hard that you choke.
4.25 ⭐I absolutely loved this story. The Alliance is a fast-paced fantasy in which Malia chooses to accept her fate to marry the prince of a rival Kingdom in hopes it will bring peace. But Prince Talan seems insufferable and refuses to look her in the eyes. Little does she know that the journey back to her new home with her prince and some of his army will force her not only to come to terms with her past, but choose how she wants to take control of her future. As something shifts between her and Talan and secrets about who she is are revealed, she must fight to prove her loyalty. But she must tread carefully and not reveal too much. The secrets she keeps could destroy any future hopes of Peace and kill her in the process. Thank you VN Wolf and swamp witch media for this ARC opportunity.
This was definitely an interesting read. I did find myself struggling a little bit to find the chemistry between Talan and Malia. I didn't mind that they were enemies to allies? But I really didn't understand why Talan let others make decisions for him, especially once we learn his secret.
I did find Malia's backstory intriguing and I would love to know who caused her pain cause her rage would be lovely.
I definitely think this was a decent beginning to the series and I feel like it can definitely get more in depth as the story goes on. But I think there was a lot going on for such a small book in my opinion. Just a lot of information all at once.
I definitely think the story has potential but I may not have been the right audience for this book.
Arranged marriage? Yes please. I was immediately hooked.
Malia is so traumatized. She really goes through it in this book, fighting with her own emotions and thoughts while also dealing with everything else going on. Her trauma responses are portrayed so well - you can feel her pain bleed through the pages.
Kazi is a badass. I love her so much. She is so fiercely loyal to Malia, who definitely deserves to have at least one person fighting for her.
I want to love Talan, but the man is so resistant to opening up and I need to know why. Why does he push her to reveal secrets but not share his own? What is he hiding?
If you appreciate great world building, then this is the one for you! The story pulls you in from the beginning with the political intrigue, slow burn romance, and enemies to lovers tension that's woven throughout.
My favorite element is the FMC's found family. A band of kick ass feisty females with tons of feminine rage who don't back down, cower or play small 🔥
The twists throughout were sooo good, and the cliffhanger was on point! I absolutely enjoyed this debut and I'm really looking forward to finding out what happens next!
this was such an amazing read. I could not put the book down; I was enchanted by the world and the characters that dwell in it. the emotions I felt were vast and great, I was looped into a world of danger and mystery. I could not get enough, I am looking forward to book two because I need some questions answered. such a beautiful creation.
I was hooked from the first chapter. Malia is a certified badass and with each secret that was uncovered I was even more amazed with her. I was frustrated with Talan for a little bit, but as the book went on and he began opening up I found i was more and more curious about him. And OF COURSE, the book ended on a cliff hanger that had me shouting "wait, what?!" I need more from Malia and Talan!!
This book was absolutely incredible. I have not read a wolf shifter book in quite some time, let's just say this author has you begging for more. When this book comes out, go and read it, you will not regret it, and you will thank me later in your head. Thank you for choosing me to be a part of your world and reading this incredible book!!
This book had me side eyeing everyone because the secrets just kept coming!
The dark atmosphere, the political intrigue, and the constant feeling that something terrible was lurking around the corner? Absolutely my kind of chaos.
Malia is exactly the kind of FMC I love...strong, resilient, and refusing to let everything she's been through define her.
And Talan? Sir! Dark, mysterious, and giving me approximately zero answers. I have questions, and I expect book two to provide them. 😂
The cliffhanger was honestly just rude. Disrespectful, even. I'll absolutely be back for book two because I need answers immediately!
What an incredible story!!!! I was blown away while reading this and I have been going crazy over all the teasers for this and I'm so happy I picked it up and read it! V.n did amazing and I will definitely read more by her!!!!!!
I really enjoyed this book, so much so I read it in one sitting, and the only flaws is that this book was only released about a week ago and so now I have a very long time to wait to see what happens next.
It took me a little bit to understand the characters and where the story was going to lead me, but once the journey began I hated seeing it end. Can’t wait until the next book!
The Alliance was absolutely incredible and I was so impressed with the writing as V.N. Wolf's debut novel. The story line had me completely hooked and I can't wait to see where book 2 takes us!
I received an ARC for this book and I just Love love love this romantasy story ! It’s full of twists and turns and bad ass female energy ! This was defenitely a slowwwww burn between the FMC and MMC ! Seriously though , I read right through this book without stopping ! If you love cliffhangers and surprises and wanting to throw your kindle or book against the wall because you NEED the next book ASAP , run to KU and grab The Alliance because it’s available now !!!!
This dark romance heathen is apparently entering her fantasy/romantasy era. When V told me about her book, I said "hand it over" and proceeded to devour it in 2 days. I couldn't get enough and was so honored to be able to alpha read.
The Alliance is a novella, but don't for a second think that means it's lacking in world building, suspense, or action. As Malia and Talan travel between kingdoms, they discover the unexpected mate bond between them. However, with Malia already being viewed as the enemy of Dannwell's people, they opt to keep the bond secret and even closed off from each other.
Malia is such a strong, bada$$ character, and I loved learning more about her and how she became the person she was. Talan is grumpy and hard to like, right up until you love him.🤭 I absolutely cannot wait for book 2 to continue this journey and get answers to the questions book 1 stirs up.
I am so SO proud of you V! Watching you thrive and being a part of your author journey is truly an honor. I love you my chaos twin!!🖤🥰😘👏👏👏
