National Geographic Investigates

Ancient Celts: Archaeology Unlocks the Secrets of the Celts' Past

Rate this book
The distinctive languages, art, and mythologies of the ancient Celts give archaeologists with an enduring quest in Northern Europe. The Celts rarely used their written language, passing along beliefs, knowledge, and wisdom through oral traditions. Artifact-rich burial grounds, like the megalithic tombs at Newgrange, Ireland, inscribed stones, and stone circles like Stonehenge, all yield clues to their mysterious ways.

This book is full of useful information to introduce youth to the civilizations called the Celts. It does a great job of presenting what is known about those civilizations and pointing out alternate interpretations of findings. It's a great read for anyone looking for a quick, concise look at the ancient Celts.

3.5 stars of 5! Read this last night, and it was enjoyable. I found it in the juvenile section of the library, but I always have loved National Geographic and human history, so I figured I might as well take a look. :) It's interesting, but I could kind of tell sometimes that it was written for a younger audience, and I would have liked it on my own level better. The pictures and information were all good, though, and there was at least one moment where I was in awe that these people lived 2,500 years ago!

This book is meant for kids. I read it out of curiosity because my daughter had a project and needed books from the library. It was in the same area and grabbed my attention. Much to my surprise, I learned some facts that I didn't know.

Pictures - EXCELLENT ! Well worth checking out the book.

Investigates....not so much. Nat/Geo needs to stick to what it does best - incredible photography.

Quick read, nicely laid out. For someone with relatively little knowledge of the Celts, this is a good jumping off point.
