The Girl Who Was There: Surviving Childhood Torture, Reclaiming Womanhood and Learning How to Live

Rate this book
A true story of trafficking, ritual abuse, and the girl who made it out.

What if the worst parts of your life weren’t just forgotten — but carried by other versions of you?

At three years old, Georgia Alison Snow was handed to a network of men.

What followed was years of ritual abuse, trafficking, and betrayal so deep it shattered her mind into thirty-one separate parts — each one carrying pain too heavy for her to bear alone.

This is the story of what happened when they came back.

As the walls between parts began to collapse, so did the silence. One by one, each girl returned with memories, flashbacks, sensations, and truths that could no longer be buried. Together, they began the unimaginable process of integration — learning to face the past, reclaim the present, and finally build a future.

Told with raw honesty, clarity, and deep compassion, The Girl Who Was There is not a story of victimhood. It’s a story of reclamation. Of witnessing. Of the fierce, relentless love required to bring yourself home.

This book is ideal

Survivors — For the ones who’ve carried the weight in silence. For those who’ve been told “it wasn’t that bad” or “you’re remembering it wrong.” This book is a mirror and a megaphone — so you can finally see yourself clearly and know, without You are not crazy, You are not alone, And it was real.

Therapists — If you work with trauma—especially complex, dissociative, or ritual abuse survivors—you need this in your hands. Not as a case study. As a living, breathing voice behind the diagnoses and dissociation. This book will show you what it feels like on the inside, so you can stop guessing and start truly understanding.

Friends & Partners — You love someone who’s survived the unthinkable, but you don’t always know how to show up. Maybe you’re afraid of saying the wrong thing. Maybe you don’t understand what’s happening behind the silence, the shutdowns, the panic. This book will take you there. Gently, truthfully, and with just enough light to help you walk beside them, not ahead or behind.

This isn't my usual type of reads, but when I tell you this has to be the most raw, emotional, gut wrenching, heartbreaking story I have ever read. Because in the back of your mind, you know things like this happen. You know there are dark, depraved, sickening, disgusting people out there that enjoy doing this to people and get a kick out of it. But to read it as an experience of something you endured, as a child nonetheless, just broke my heart.
This story is not for the weak. It is raw, it is emotional, it is dark, and it is disturbing. As a reader, you most definitely need to check your trigger warnings before reading this. But this is definitely a story worth reading and sharing.
Georgia, thank you. Thank you for being so open about your experience, your trauma, your abuse, your pain, and your struggles. But also... thank you for sharing your journey, your healing process, all the individuals you became to cope with what you went through, for not allowing this to break you and turning this into a teaching moment to help other survivors and therapists. I am so sorry that this is something that you, or anyone for that matter, had to endure. You are the true definition of strength and bravery. The way you wrote this shows that even after all the dark you went through, you still have an amazing personality that shines! Your light conquered the dark! Shout out to stinky-poo for bringing you the comfort you needed when it seems like stinky-poo also needed comforting.

Thank you Georgia for allowing me to see into your life. Your darkest, most painful times. And what you went through to survive, to chime into the light. As a mom, I couldn’t ever imagine putting any child through that. The fact that you your mind created other personalities so you could endure what you were going through. This definitely needs to be in the hands of therapists in that regard. Even in the hands if universities fit this taking psychology and any mental health field. To have such an in depth look into the actual mind of the person that went through such tragedies is fascinating.
But this story say heavy in my heart and mind. The atrocities that took place. Was sickening and deeply disturbing. I truly have no words for this. It’s not a story you take lightly. You sit with it gently, even in words I wanted to hold you, love you. And tell you hot story I am. But how proud I am that you found your light in that darkness. That you found the strength to share. To make the world aware.
You are the most genuine and loving heart. And I thank you for letting me into your life.

This book was absolutely heartbreaking and powerful at the same time. It’s written with such raw honesty that I had to stop a few times just to process everything Georgia went through. The way she describes trauma, dissociation, and the journey of integration felt deeply human and real, never sensationalised. Despite how dark the subject matter is, there’s also so much strength, resilience, and hope woven through the story. A difficult but incredibly important read that will stay with me for a long time.

Heartbreaking and also inspiring at the same time. The 31 people that describes a survivors life as each one represented something different for her. The telling of memories and of self doubt in every corner of the survivors life is intense. “We might never be free of the flashbacks or the re-enactments or the grief, but healing represents a change in our relationship with what happened and with what continues to show up.” There are so many highlights I have absorbed through this. Please take your time reading and not in one sitting. Let it soak in

This was one of the most heartbreaking books I’ve ever read. The story was raw, honest, and deeply emotional, shedding light on everything Georgia has endured and continues to live with. Her strength and resilience in the face of so much pain were nothing short of incredible. I found myself completely invested in Georgia’s journey, hurting for her, rooting for her, and hoping she could eventually find peace.
This is not an easy read emotionally, but it is an unforgettable one.

Wow, what an emotional read. The abuse and awfulness that Georgia endured was unimaginable. The bravery and strength she has to move ahead with therapy and writing this book brings out awe in me. This was an incredible story of the strongest woman dealing with her past and those who wronged her.

This was a complimentary ARC I reviewed honestly.

Thank you to the author for letting me arc read this story.

This story is so heartbreaking to read, it had me in tears at some points in the book, I can’t imagine what she went through it makes me so mad when children get hurt by monsters. I’m glad she has the courage to write her story as tragic is it was.

This broke my heart in so many ways. The way each ‘person’ holds onto the trauma in different ways. It’s beautifully written and you feel the pain through the writing.

This was both heartbreaking and a fascinating read. Diving between the horrors of ritualistic abuse and uncovering DID, and learning to love all the parts that helped protect you.
