This novel, one of a wider series, is a re-release and reworking of an older published series.
As Jane Austen’s fiction was the subject of my doctorate, I was curious to read this, as the historical setting is one I know intimately.
This Regency romance follows a quiet and unexpected protagonist, the daughter of Charlotte Lucas and William Collins. She is offered an unexpected escape from a life of emotional neglect by being appointed as a companion in a remote northern castle. As she forms a delicate bond within a guarded household, her growing connection with a distant widower challenges the rigid expectations of class and society. This continuation of a beloved literary world has appearances from Pride and Prejudice’s best loved characters.
I found this an enjoyable and engaging read, though the ending was a little contrived, with some of the events being better placed earlier in the novel to prevent all the resolutions occurring at once. I would willingly read more from this series again.

This was an amazing book. I love that it had the Darcy family and yet kept it to itself by being about another family while only mentioning them a couple times. I love that he was a single dad who hired a governor to take care of his daughter. I was so happy with how it turned out and that ending.
