The Fourth of July weekend promises lots of excitement for the cozy town of Catfish Cove. A dog parade, bonfire, barbecue and fireworks are sure to bring in the crowds and give a boost to all businesses, including the Black Cat Café.
To prepare for the onslaught of customers, Annie Fisher has to keep their supply up of blackberries from Hayworth Fruit Farms for everyone’s favorite, blackberry pie. But when she finds the berry farmer unconscious in his field, her mind immediately goes to the worst possible scenario. To make matters worse, the farmer’s neighbor turns up dead and anonymous messages drag Annie into the mystery when all she wants to do is spend time with her handsome boyfriend.
With clues pointing in every direction, Annie needs to figure out who’s lying and who she can trust before she ends up as the next victim in the killer’s web of deceit.
***BlackBuried Pie is approx. 200 pages and is volume 3 in the Black Cat Cafe Cozy Mystery Series. Lyndsey’s books can be read and enjoyed in any order.
This series is so much fun and wow what a good twist. I never guessed who the killer was until the reveal. The showdown was quick and I was proud of Annie for not completely trusting the killer once she realize who it was. I like that she and Jason are in a good place with their relationship. A couple of the other ladies ended up with a love connection that was really sweet.
I do recommend reading this series in order even though it states each book can stand alone. Some of it's been an ongoing story and for example, if someone read this book before reading the last book and first, it might give some things away, not about the killers but the regular story line. I'm happy to keep borrowing this cute series on Kindle Unlimited!
This is yet another series that has been on my to-read list for quite some time. I read the first book a couple of years ago, and wasn’t entirely convinced I would like it. Since I rarely give up on a series after just one book, I read book #2 last year and decided to keep reading.
I like Annie, the MC, but am still not sure about some of the other major characters, perhaps because there are so many of them and it’s hard to keep relationships straight. I did get a little tired of all the references to the upcoming opening of her art gallery, but once the gallery opens, that should go away, right?
The victim in this book was one of those characters that is almost universally disliked, but nobody wants to see someone get away with murder, so the MC started “asking questions” (why can’t they just say they’re investigating?!) to figure out who was responsible. I guessed the identity of the killer before it was revealed in the book, but had the motive wrong.
This is such a fun easy to read series and I just love it. Annie is a great main character who is warm, tries to help others and truly loves a good mystery. Yes she is a little on the nosy side. Her love interest is one I totally love. Jason is sweet, adores Annie and never tells her to keep out of mysteries and actually is her sounding board. I love the side characters as well Annie's ex fiance Tyler who is the law in this case, Mia, Leona and Danny and all the others who make up the town. I love the story line though in this book the murder was fairly easy to solve. A really great fast read with great characters and good story line. I can't wait to read more.
I don't know how I ended up with this poorly developed series with an immature writing style, but the saying "curiosity killed the cat" comes to mind.
I think the catchy title inspired my curiosity to read the first book....then because I was curious if my prediction about the relationship between mother/aunt/daughter was correct, I started the second even though I was already not sure if I liked the series. By book two I found I was right about the relationship, but book two was as bad as book one; so why did I read book 3!!! I thought the relationship between the three women would develop....hmm ...what a mess! Irresponsible pet adoptions, mundane ongoing details about food, but not details to draw you in, no these details drive you to tears at the lack of relevance to the storyline. They don't enhance it in the least, and they detract from the supposed "mystery" of the cute play-on-words title. The police apparently are incompetent with sleuth-girl doing their job, and she can't manage to keep her nose out of things it doesn't belong in, not to mention doing illegal things like taking evidence and breaking chain of custody which would make evidence inadmissible! The grammar and writing style is sophomoric at best. The story has many pointless and detracting branch-offs from the main story.... the mother/daughter relationship could have been better developed considering the huge deal made in books 1 & 2 about the adoption and that fallout.
On the plus side, I am glad this series was not my first experience with a cozy mystery or I would never read another one. On the negative side this soured me from cozy mysteries for a while.
No thanks to this series, wasted time when I could have been reading something better. I won't be seeking any more titles by this author.

Heather's Notes I have to admit these are getting a little stale. Annie again runs around with no idea what she is doing and still manages to catch the killer. You would think by now she would have learned a little bit about investigating. Still they are not horrible, the cast of characters is enjoyable, although I would like a little more about the love interest. He is just stuck in there almost as an after thought. I will probably read more but they are not on my go to list.
I JUST WROTE A FUCKING 2 PARAGRAPH REVIEW AND iOS GOODREADS' APP SUDDENLY CLOSED SO NOW I'M MORE FRUSTRATED THAN I WAS AFTER ENDURING THIS BOOK
(continuing from the 2nd paragraph that was rudely interrupted cause I honestly don't have the energy to write the 1st one again)
I thought Martha's weirdness, Annie & Jason's romance, and Danny's blushing would be enough for me to endure the rest of the series but somehow this book ruined all of this. Martha playing the twins was just awful. Comedic relief purposes or not, the boys did not deserve that especially the one who was left behind. Annie & Jason's relationship is as stale as a day-old pizza. Heck I'd gobble down a day-old pizza, reheated or not, than watch those two. They're so much more boring than watching the clock tick during youth last period class. Lastly, Leona keeps getting worse and she just had to be paired with my favorite middle age guy in this town, Danny. Danny, who still has to fight his past ghosts and his alcoholism. Danny, who's a blushing bride at his old age. Danny, who's now in the grasp of moody margaret. I honestly thought I will be able to finish this series but I think I will be DNFing the entire series. I'd just end up skimming over to the ending to see how it goes.
I tried the first book in this series and had reservations, but I chose to give the series a chance to develop. After having read several, I can say these books are too simplistic and lack development in all areas. There is almost no scene descriptions, no weather, no description of places or rooms. Character development is also lacking so people in the story keep being added but you have no idea what they do, who they are, what their emotions are. The main character being the owner of an art gallery, who is also working at a bakery as a waitress/assistant/clerk and is also a "professional" photographer feels unbelievable. There also were not enough story lines so the story felt one dimensional.
Who doesn't LOVE PIE and GREAT EXCITING MYSTERIES ?
Lindsey makes PIE the way my grandma taught me. She is a marvelous writer. I love the way she develops her characters, as lwell as her tangled mysteries. I have never been able to catch the murderer..? That is saying a lot as. I am a 73year old grandma (BUBBY) of ten and I read all types of mysteries every day.
Get started reading LYNDSEY'S books and you shall be hooked after the first one. A HUGE FAN, CAROL VANATTA Justcva46@gmail.com
Another great read. Going to pick up blackberries should not lead you to a murder but that's life. Can she wade her way through the lies and get to the truth? Okay I had my suspicions on who the culprit was (I was right) but the plot was a nice tightly woven one with plenty of suspects and motives. The characters are really evolving now and the interaction is getting better and better.
This book seriously needs an editor/proofreader. It's full of misspellings and misused words. No excuse for that. The writing is stilted and formulaic. I was hoping that subsequent books by this author would be improved but they're getting worse. It's obvious she's only interested in churning out titles.

More delights from the girls at Black Cat bakery. And more murder and mayhem for Annie to try and find her way through. Will she outwit the murderer, or just stay one step ahead? And what of her new romance? Read on..
I love blackberries but this story was far from the sweet goodness of that luscious fruit. My main problem was it is not believable that the main character could find her way out of a plain paper bag
The story was cool Fun, mysterious, moving right along!!! I was liking it a lot 😁 The convoluted made me a little nervous & confused!! I'm still not positive who the killer was ??.🤗
I really enjoy this series, it's probably one of my very favorites. It's Fouth of July weekend and things are busier than ever for Annie and friends. The favorite item on the menu at Black Cat Cafe is blackberry pie, luckily a local farmer is able to supply the cafe with all the berries they need. When Annie goes to pick up her order of blackberries she discovers the farmer face down in the blackberry bushes, she quickly calls for help thinking the worst. It isn't until later when Annie discovers the farmer is fine, but his neighbor is the one who was murdered Someone is leaving Annie cryptic messages that keep pulling her into the investigation. With clues point in all directions and everyone either telling half truths or holding back, Annie isn't sure what to believe. This is another fun mystery that quickly grabbed my attention and kept me turning the pages. There are plenty of twists and turns, with a few surprises along the way. I enjoy watching the characters develop and grow. I'm looking forward to reading more in this series!
Another excellent mystery by Lyndsey Cole. I really enjoy these fruity desserts mysteries. Not only are the stories good, but the desserts really seem to hit the spot for my sweet tooth. Of course, reading about the desserts is much better for my waistline than eating them... Anyway, this one is about the death of a rude member of the community and the search for his killer. It's a bit of a challenge to figure out who did it, but Ms Cole has written an excellent story that keeps you on your toes as the search for answers keeps you involved. I would highly recommend this one.
This series is nice. The characters are well-drawn and likable. The plots are complex enough to keep the reader guessing but not so convoluted as to be implausible. My only problem with Ms Cole's work is the same as with many other authors. You need better copy editors who understand the difference between "new" and "knew," for instance. I gave up on another author's work altogether because the editing was so bad, it was making me crazy. I couldn't concentrate on the storyline. Ms Cole's editor is better than that but it's still a problem.
A quick, fun read perfect for a lazy afternoon. A warm and friendly cast of characters reside in Catfish Cove and you will find yourself being drawn into their evolving friendships and family dynamics.
BlackBuried Pie takes place over the Fourth of July weekend. Annie Fisher finds local berry farmer Pete Hayworth passed out in his fields, and his neighbor Robbie is discovered dead in his recliner by the visiting nurse. Annie sets out to find the killer and soon realizes there is a lot more going on in the idyllic town than shows on the surface.
I just wish I had an imagination and the ability to write a book as good as this. There is something so satisfying about reading a good book. This is one you ought to try.
Kindle Unlimited, lot of stuff going on in these stories, although most never makes sense and some just hurts, as in cardboard characters and situations.
