THIS IS REALLY A 3.5 READ FOR ME
This is the first book I have read by Ms Muir. She writes beautifully and I liked her character development.
Bridget, her cousin Mallory and their good friend Vivianne are on an adventure together. They have run away from England to Scotland. They each have a quest. Bridget wants a kilt from a Highlander. Mallory wants a piece of pirate gold. Vivianne wants a poet's love letter. They have disguised themselves as men, with beards and men's clothing. They feel sure they will have a wonderful adventure.
They are caught out by Rory, Connor and Ian. They all immediately realize these are women. Rory is the grandson of Bridget's grandmother's one true love.
Now the premise of this story sounds absolutely wonderful. The characters are all terrific. Bridget and the women are smart and funny and not as scatterbrained as they first appear. Rory, Connor and Ian are brave and honorable and wonderfully heroic.
But, for me there were places where the story bogged down. It seemed there were too many different events happening. I felt that the story lost focus.
There is a villain who is a really terrible person. The reader knows this because Bridget is promised to become his bride. She cannot tell anyone why but it is against her will. She lives in terror of the villain. Her promise is one of the reasons for the adventure.
Ms Muir is a very talented author. Since this is the first in a series, I look forward to reading the next book in the series.
I feel certain that the next book will not have the same issue I found in this one.
