Remember, remember… September 7th, 2001. The date that changed everything.
In a near-future America where every man, woman, and child serves, there are no civilians—everyone belongs and no one is left behind, even if they want to be. Thirty years of war with Russia have forged a nation defined by discipline, unity, and purpose. And sustained by the belief that duty must endure.
To those who believe, it’s not dystopia. It’s Utopia.
Lieutenant Colonel Daniel Smith has spent his life believing in that system. Once a celebrated war hero, the Homeland Guard reassigns him to Chillicothe, Ohio to take command of his hometown—a posting that should be routine.
It isn’t.
Outgoing commander Colonel “Crazy Tom” Prescott—once the star quarterback in high school and Daniel’s former classmate—refuses to step aside. What begins as a contested transfer quickly becomes something far more dangerous. With his authority challenged at every step, Daniel seeks allies without knowing who he can trust.
At the same time, his daughter Karen—a top cadet at The Ohio State Military University—prepares to embark on her own career. Driven, disciplined, and certain of her future, she believes her next year will be decisive.
She’s right.
And when father and daughter come face-to-face with Crazy Tom, there will be no turning back.
MILITOPIA is a story about family, leadership, choices, and consequences. After thirty years of war, something has to give—and it may be the Smith family that gives everything.
Utopia or Dystopia? What you see depends on where you stand.
Militopia shows us a near-future dream or nightmare. When the entire country is enlisted from birth to death, there is no more hunger, no more homelessness. Every citizen-soldier is cared for. Every person has a purpose. And when you’re a hammer, everything looks like a nail.
Years of war have reshaped America into a new country where military service is life and every occupation from farming to fighter pilot is part of the new American Dream. For Lieutenant Colonel Daniel Smith, recently demoted to Homeland Guard, his new posting to Camp Chillicothe is a chance to rebuild his reputation from a front-line disaster that haunts him. For Cadet Captain Karen Smith, a student at the Ohio State Military University, active duty upon graduation as an officer provides the chance to prove herself out from under her father’s shadow. And for Crazy Tom Prescott, former Chillicothe commanding officer, the whole system is rotten and due for a violent overhaul.
This is a book that will stay with you long after the story ends. Raising questions about family, honor, and what it means to be an American in a brave new world, author MacMann has created a deeply resonant story that feels honest and real. His military background is apparent, but this book is not just for military readers. This is a family drama in an impossible world that feels more possible every day. Don’t miss it.
In his newest release, author Scott Macmann has forged an unforgettable military thriller. In it, a forever war has changed the face of America into a military utopia. Gone is the civilian life we currently know and enjoy. In its stead, every citizen serves in the military to fight the war.
The narrative follows two characters. The first is Daniel, a former war hero traveling to his new post in Chillicothe, Ohio, where he finds a problem in the base’s former commander. The second is his daughter, Karen, and her time as a cadet-captain in The Ohio State Military University. The two converge into an explosive climax, leading to an ending that will leave you breathless and pondering over the events long after finishing.
I was fortunate enough to read an Advance Review Copy. Without expectations, I dug in and couldn’t stop reading more. “Just another chapter,” I kept saying. “Just one more.” I finished this novel in three sittings – and that was only because I ended the second at 4:00 AM! Check out Militopia, by Scott Macmann. You will not be disappointed.
If you enjoy this one, also available is Scott’s first novel, Winter Solstice. It’s a fun one, as well!
A delectable, spine tingling thrill ride through a world that is unrecognizable by modern standards. America is united into one single military force. Every man, woman, and child is part of an evolving military machine with one single goal. Victory at all costs against an enemy their told will show no mercy.
Far from the frontlines, Dan Smith, once a decorated hero finds himself commanding an Ohio backwater farming community with its own homegrown terrorist fighting against what his country has become.
Militopia is a page turning masterpiece as we dig into a drama revolving around a fractured family and the life and death struggle they are drawn into. Dan will find himself tested in ways that the battlefield never prepared him for. His daughter Karen will learn the agony of sacrifice and loss before ever being properly deployed.
Macmann tests the nerves of characters and his readers in equal measure as a tense nail biting tale of honor, duty, and betrayal like no other.
If you ever wondered how Gomer Pyle would handle a dystopian world like 1984 or Brave New World, then Militopia is for you. Entertaining, not taking itself too seriously, but ultimately raising the questions any moral leader should ask, Militopia combines humor with beloved dystopian standard offerings: government oppression, an unexpected rebel movement on the wrong side of society, and a family caught in the middle of it all. I was fortunate to have received an advance reader copy from the publisher, but this is a book I will purchase and read again. Macmann has written a fresh take on the dystopian genre which will delight fans of the classics who are hungry for hope and humor sprinkled into their dystopias.
In an America like ours, but where all political institutions are annihilated, national survival requires unified action. As the last "national" institution, duty called our professional military to reorganize the nation.
In a rapidly evolving tale so relentless each page draws you forward to the end.
We follow the sacrifices exacted from transformed families and communities on the home front. Their journey provides insights into how American military culture/values can impact both everyday choices and those made in the thick of action. Furthermore, we will painfully bear witness to how consequences take on a life of their own.
The story is deeply ingrained in the culture of southern Ohio and the US military which gives it a real sense of gravity and place. It’s a moving and cautionary tale of what life might be like in a totally militarized United States. It really gets moving when crazy Tom finally gets his moment in the sun and the Smith family pays the price to survive.
