What do you get when you take one straightlaced, always-in-control professor and put them on an expedition with a relaxed, live-in-the-moment professor that wears slutty glasses? An absolutely cozy romance that will make you kick your feet, giggle, and fan yourself because the spice is HOT!

A Beastologist's Field Notes of Fated Affection first introduces us to Doctor Cerise Thornheart - a Beastologist who MUST prove that she is smart and worthy to her mother (who I really don't like btw). She is setting out an a research expedition with the goal of finding a new species - which Cerise believes, through the influence of previously mentioned and very unlikeable mother, will win her praise and she will make Dean for at the Silverleaf Institute of Magic. On this expedition, she meets Doctor Liam Pendgradon, a Beastologist from a neighboring school. A man could not have a more opposite personality to a woman than what we see between Liam and Cerise. But that doesn't stop Liam from being everything that Cerise needs. He is the most lovable, kind, and persistent (in all the best ways). He brings the fun out in her, and not just the stuff she thought was "fun" but the fun that makes her laugh in ways she didn't allow herself. He made her feel safe enough to just let go and that is such a powerful thing. Honestly this review may just be a love letter to Liam Pendragon, because honestly - he is absolutely just wonderful and being added to my list of MMCs that deserve all the love.

And he's BLONDE - I know how dare a blonde MMC be amazing!

One of my favorite descriptions of Cerise was that she is "persnickety". I am making this my personal petition that this word get used more often because I feel like it can describe so many things in life. If you didn't know, persnickety means that someone can be fussy about small details or requiring great precision - Perfectly Cerise. Some people may not like this in a character or person, but has anyone ever asked why someone might be this way? Could it be because you wanted to please someone so much that you have tried to ensure every little thing in life lined up in order to do so? Especially when that person would criticize and belittle you for the smallest things? Can you understand that the slightest look on a face or change in tone could mean massive amounts of anxiety? (Jeez - come to think of it, I relate way to well to Cerise - which is why she probably pissed me off quite a few times) But seeing her be able to relax and be who she wants because she knew Liam supported her - super powerful. Because he didn't expect her to change everything - just learn to let go sometimes.

Ok - now on to some not so favorite parts of the book. I did feel the end sort of tapered off in a weird way. For 3/4 of the book I was invested and really just excited about where our characters would be and then the excitement sort of stopped for me. Part me thinks it's because I was relating far too much to Cerise and it brought up some not great feelings. Is that a bad thing though? No I don’t think so. Because at the end of the day, K.M. Gordon truly captured what a complicated relationship with a parent can feel like. So while I didn't love the way the end flowed, it was still very well written. And because the book itself as a whole still gave me the warm and fuzzies I wanted going in to reading, it absolutely gets 5 stars from me.

Thank you so much K.M. Gordon for giving me the chance to read this. Since this was my first from this author, I will tell you I am already looking forward to the next in this series and her other books have been added to my ever growing TBR.

☆☆☆☆☆☆ (okay infinite stars but my rating system is normally only to 6 for the best of the best)

The first thing I have to say about it is: It's perfection. Absolute perfection.
I fell for this book the first time I heard about it in our ST by KM Gordon and knew I loved it. And then there where her sneak peeks and bookart and I nearly lost my mind waiting for the opportunity to finally read it. And it still took my feet from under me by how absolutely breathtaking and amazing it is. I enjoyed every word, every scene, every interaction. This is a true masterpiece.
We finally get main characters who are scientists and their journey is not to save the world but to save themselves. It is a book about finding yourself, your happiness and your true passion.
I was able to connect with them so much because I am a mix of them both - I got both of their issues and problems - lucky me 😄
Cerise has a beautiful self-finding journey and I enjoyed her development and her self realisation. The support and love she got from her friends warmed my heart and it made it clear again for me how important it is to be truly seen and accepted for who you are. Too often we adapt and change to fit the demands and needs of others but what should really be important is to be the main character in your own life. That doesn't mean that you are egoistic but that you value your own happiness and health above the expectations of others.
Liam - I think he was nearly instantly one of my favourite MMCs of all time! He is so sweet, caring, protecting, free, charming and heart-warming. I am absolutely in love with him. He has a a good heart and a beautiful character. His joyful and friendly demeanor really enraptured me and I felt instantly warm and safe with him. I need more of him - maybe a lot of bonus chapters? Pleeeeeeeassse ♡
The side characters are the cherry on top to really make this book a masterpiece. I think I love Coen the most 😄 I can't wait for his book! He is awesome, I connected with him instantly and knew I loved him. Emberly and Rosamund are wonderful and just a perfect counterpart for her dragon of a mother (okay I love dragons that is not fair to them).

I highly recommend this book and I am fairly certain you will fall for it too!

I truly devoured this beautiful, feel-good romance.

Cerise & Liam, two expert beastologists in different towns, meet during an expedition into the jungle with a group of scholars in this high fantasy world. Though they frustrate each other with their opposing personalities, they're forced to work together. They grapple with a budding romance amidst a disaster in the expedition as well as life after the expedition and their respective complicated family dynamics. I highly recommend this book for romantasy readers who 1) are looking for a sweet romance with great spice 2) enjoy a jungle adventure (Lost City with Sandra Bullock & Channing Tatum comes to mind).

* Academia
* Magic
* 31+ year old, neurodivergent MC’s
* Opposites attract
* He falls first
* LGBTQ+ supporting characters
* Open door spice

Although the stakes were lower, it gripped me just as much as any high stakes epic fantasy. The pacing is steady, picking up even more so about a quarter of the way through.

The plot its driven by evolution of their “weaknesses” and their budding romance. Each main character’s personality is established in away that was a little overt and on the nose for my liking - the FMC being an obvious, typical control freak and the MMC being your typical chaotic shameless flirt. Even still, the way they compliment each other, the romantic tension, and their individual arcs were captivating. The spice was really good, and their love is emotional and healing.

The difference in tone and feel between this and K.M.’s debut series, Daughter of the Earth, was interesting. While this is high fantasy, it’s sweeter with lower stakes than the other epic and immersive series, allowing the romance to fully take the lead (not bad AT ALL - I highly enjoyed it - just worth noting).

Thank you K.M Gordon for the free advanced copy, I’m excited for the next one!

4.5 Stars rounded up. A huge thank you to author K.M. Gordon for providing me with an ARC!

This is a dual-POV cozy romantasy with plenty of chemistry, witty banter, and a touch of darker spice (mostly through the dialogue and dynamic between the characters).

Cerise is an incredibly uptight, career focused FMC who thrives on order and control, while Liam is her complete opposite-chaotic, spontaneous, and living life on the edge. Watching these two clash and slowly balance each other out was so much fun. Liam is exactly the kind of person Cerise needs to pull her out of her comfort zone.

The story kicks off in the jungle, where a series of events throws them together and starts building the tension between them. And let me tell you, Liam absolutely falls first. He is determined to crack Cerise's carefully built walls, and I loved every minute of it.

The banter was cute, funny, and genuinely entertaining. My favorite part, though, was Liam's character. He's a total cinnamon-roll MMC in everyday life, but when the romance heats up, he becomes much more confident, demanding, and possessive. That combination is one of my favorite character types, and it was executed so well. Liam was definitely the standout for me.

I will admit that the first few chapters had me wondering if this book was going to be for me. But once the chemistry clicked and we learned more about their backgrounds—including their shared struggles with difficult parents—I was completely invested.

And that letter Cerise wrote to Liam? Instant emotional damage. I was absolutely in my feelings.

I also loved that the happy ending wasn't just about the romance. Cerise finally found happiness and fulfillment in all areas of her life, which made the conclusion feel even more satisfying.

Firstly, thank you very much to K.M Gordon for providing me with an ARC copy of this book. I am leaving my review for free and completely of my own thoughts and opinions.

I was extremely excited by all the promotion I had seen for this book and it did not disappoint. It gave me all the cozy, spicy, jungle hijinx I wanted it to while also having great character growth and neurodiversity rep.

The first half of the book is a fun jungle adventure, moving into a more normal academic story in the later half however the characters, their growth and their relationship fully are the stars of the show, stealing the limelight and running wild with it.

Cerise is a brilliantly written FMC. She is meticulous, smart and extremely practical. Putting a lot of pressure on herself to be perfect and stick to what she knows, she just needs someone to unlock the fun thats buried inside.

Enter Liam, our green flag MMC. He's flirty, funny and a little chaotic. But he's also extremely observant and skilled at reading people and what they need. He also has a little protective streak that shines through and is great to catch glimpses of.

The way Liam and Cerises personalities played off each other was so fun to read. Seeing them go from colleagues to friends to something more was delightful. Not only that but the way they pushed each other to grow? Swoon worthy.

And my GOD the spice! The mouth on our boy Liam. I was fanning myself repeatedly.

Cannot recommend this enough for people wanting a character and relationship driven cozy fantasy that explores letting yourself break from expectations and chase joy.

Literally could not read this fast enough. This was such a refreshing, fun, creative story.
I love the vibes alone but I also really enjoy KM Gordon's writing. Her words always feel fresh and the way she fleshes out her characters really gets me. You always feel like you know them in real life by the first couple of chapters. I also LOVED all of the animals/magical creatures, and wished there was more of them. That's the only thing I wished could have been beefed up more.

This was SUCH an incredibly cute book oh my gosh. The setting? Impeccable. I’ve not read a jungle setting in SOOOO long, and I put on a jungle background noise playlist and I felt I was right there with the characters given how beautifully described it all is. The characters? Sweethearts. I adore them all. The romance? 10000/10 🥵🥵

Genuinely this book was so good and it was lovely seeing Cerise grow as a person and learn to find joy in her life again. She was…a little bit of a damsel in distress at points, but I was very very glad when she finally stood up for what she wanted (even if it did take a while). Also she is a TALL GIRL and I am HERE for that representation!!!! Liam was peak cinnamon roll and his chill outlook on life managed to bring Cerise out of her shell which was lovely. Together they were truly great and I was kicking my heels at their interactions.

The side characters were so sweet and I hope we get to see more of Emberly and Rosamund even if it’s just in passing to see how they’re getting on in the future.

I was genuinely sad when they left the jungle, I was loving the vibes of that, but I could see that some growth needed to happen back in the real world for Cerise.

I got through this entire book in two sittings and the only reason it was two sittings was because I had to sleep, otherwise I would have read it in one go. Truly such a cozy fantasy and I absolutely want to continue this series.

Thank you so much to K.M Gordon for the arc, all views are my own!

ARC Review
I actually started writing this review thinking that my husband and I are just a little like the main characters, Cerise and Liam. But the more I sat with my thoughts, the more I realized... we are just like them.
I am the uptight, serious one—the chronic planner who calculates every possible scenario. My husband? He’s the quintessential "live in the moment" guy. He laughs out loud, he’s beautifully clumsy, and he will snooze his alarms until the end of time.
While I love that we completely balance each other out, the reality of a "grumpy x sunshine" dynamic isn't always a flawless romance trope. Sometimes, I get completely overwhelmed by his bubbly energy, and he genuinely doesn't understand why I need things done a specific way.
And that is exactly why this book stole my heart.
On the surface, it has everything you want in a fun, addictive romance. It’s packed with popular micro-tropes, and it is just an incredibly good time. But if you dig a little deeper, it offers something so much more profound. It’s a beautiful look at what it actually takes to understand and accept each other’s habits and, more importantly, learning to bend your own.
This story actually shifted my perspective. We live in a world that tells us, "This is just who I am, take it or leave it, I won't change for anyone." But this book made me ask myself: Would we do the same for others? Would we accept them exactly as they are without expecting them to change just to accommodate us? It’s not about altering your entire identity; it’s about that gentle compromise.
Aside from the gorgeous emotional depth, the pacing of this book is perfect. Most chapters are under 10 minutes, which made it impossible to put down. Just "one more chapter" turned into finishing the whole book in the blink of an eye.
The alternating perspectives were also handled flawlessly. I was grinning like an idiot the entire time I read this. It’s light, it’s fun, but it leaves you with a beautiful reminder of what love actually looks like in the real world.

Plot: 4/5
Character development: 5/5
World building 4/5

I was fortunate enough to receive an ARC of A Beastiologist’s Field Notes of Fated Affection from K.M. Gordon. This book got me out a bit of a reading slump and it did not fall short (I finished the book in two days)! Easy five stars from me!

This cozy rom-com combines the perfect dose of heart and humour, with some action and medium stakes adventure. The light-magic system and academia elements added wonder and excitement, while the emotional moments give the story real depth.

Liam and Cerise are presented as complete opposites at the start of their jungle expedition. The jungle scenes had me cackling and kicking my feet with the banter. As the story progresses and the layers are peeled back, you discover that they actually have more in common and complement each other perfectly (not to mention their chemistry was off the charts 🥵). Their characters had relatable human emotional depth and struggles, and the side characters brought the story to life with their support for the main characters.

If you enjoy romantasy with lovable characters, fascinating creatures, and a satisfying blend of sweetness, tension, and adventure, this book will be well worth picking up on release day. I’m already looking forward to spending more time in this world (Coen’s story is next) and reading whatever K.M. Gordon takes us on next - hint, you should check out her Daughter of the Earth trilogy if you haven’t already read it!

This was my favorite read of the year so far. Very well written, great world building, awesome characters, well done to the author. I absolutely devoured this book and was sad when it was over.
I found myself relating HARDCORE to Cerise. I too have a narcissistic mother and was always pressured to do the best when it came to academics. Some of their conversations could have been plucked straight from my life.
Liam is the most green flag MMC I've come across and I adore him. His and Cerise's banter and romance is utterly adorable and healing on both ends.
I really love that it's very obvious both characters are neurodivergent, but they don't have a term for that in this world. It's relatable to have them trying to go through life with something definitely off, but not knowing what to do about it.
One thing I really loved was the multiple different settings we got. The universities, on an expedition, lost in a jungle, at a gala, etc. It kept it realistic, even though we're in a magical world.
The side characters are also great; the author managed to give great depth and backgrounds to even the smallest ones.
I have to mention the spice, because it's delicious. *naughty* but the idea of Cerise being submissive in bed because every other part of her life is so controlled is also super realistic. I'll leave it at that. Liam is hot, that's that.
I look forward to reading more by Gordon and I can't wait to continue on with these characters!

Thank you to K.M Gordon for considering me to be part of the ARC team. I honestly was sooketh when I got an email...Now onto the review...

Liam and Cerise are undoubtedly the couple I didn’t realise I needed in my life. Where can I find someone like Liam? Any suggestions?

Liam = Fun, geeky, bespectacled, attractive, and undeniably drool-worthy.
Cerise = Serious, organised, and career-focused.

Honestly, this book has been an absolute delight to read. It definitely had that “just one more chapter” vibe, and I cherished every moment. The chance to learn about various flowers, insects, and animals while watching the two main characters embark on adventures in the jungle! what more could a girl ask for?

And the oasis scene... enough said! If you know, you know. If you don’t know, it’s time to find out! Also, the storeroom at the Gala? YES!

The fact that the characters are in their 30s is incredibly refreshing to read, especially in the romance/erotic genre. As someone in their 30s, I truly appreciated being able to relate more to the characters. I’ve rated this book an impressive 5 stars because if you think any less of it... lowkey... what’s wrong with you?

It’s the ideal stand-alone novel, or you can enjoy it as part of a series, though there may be a slight wait since this is the first book in the Academics of Eldoria series.

✨A Beastologist’s Field Notes of Fated Affection by K.M. Gordon✨
Thank you K.M. Gordon for the advanced copy and the opportunity to provide an honest review.

So cute! This had all the makings of a contemporary romance with a few magical elements thrown in to keep it interesting. The setting was easily understood and was so comfortable that there were moments I wasn’t sure we were even in a fantasy 🙃 Cerise, an ambitious and regimented professor, finds herself on a field excursion with Liam, a joyful and carefree professor from another university. While they and their group traverse the jungle to find a new species, Liam tries to help Cerise ‘find her joy’ and calamity ensues!
What starts as irritation with each other quickly turns to friendship and romance as they embark on adventures in the jungle with the rest of their party.
This book also explores the lasting impacts of childhood trauma on individuals. There is great growth depicted of Cerise throughout the book as she comes to realize her life is comprised of her mother’s wishes, not her own. And seeing her work to take her life back was truly satisfying.
Overall this was a fun read, the romance was compelling, and I really enjoyed it! I look forward to reading more stories set in this world and exploring other books by K.M. Gordon.

Ohhhh my gosh I LOVED this ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Eldest daughters - Cerise is for you! What a beautiful character she is, I can’t ever remember relating to a character so much before 🫶 I really did feel every criticism, self doubt, pang of guilt and self-deprivation. Cerise is every woman who has been made to feel her entire life that she’s not enough and she’ll never be enough. Watching her absolutely win felt like watching my best friend, my sister, and myself all at the same time succeed and thrive.

Liam is an absolute breath of fresh air - can we please get a round of applause for this man and his unproblematic and clear communication!? The author did such an incredible job at showing us exactly who Liam is, but honestly for me nothing explained him and his type b-ness better than not reading the contract at the axe-throwing parlour, and as a ‘type a’ girlie it killedddddd me 😅

Don’t even get me started on how these 2 protect each other or we’ll be here all day 🥹❤️

World building was immaculate as usual from K.M. Gordon - I could see and hear and feel everything, she makes you feel like you’re there with your friends, and not just reading about them on a page.

I had the best time with this, and already wish I could read it again for the first time.

I can’t wait to see what’s next ✨🌿💜🌸

**A Beastologist's Field Notes of Fated Affections** by KM Gordon was everything I hoped it would be and more.

The moment I read the blurb and applied for the ARC, I was hooked. It gave me the magical, creature-filled vibes of *Harry Potter* and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, and I knew I needed to read it.

One of my favorite things about this book was the worldbuilding. Our FMC, Cerise, is a Beastology professor at one of the most prestigious academies in the world, and I connected with her immediately. She thrives on order, structure, and punctuality—traits deeply rooted in her childhood experiences. Her determination, intelligence, and passion for her work shine throughout the entire story.

Then there's Liam, our MMC and fellow Beastology professor. Where Cerise is structured and disciplined, Liam is carefree and spontaneous. Watching these complete opposites navigate their differences and slowly develop feelings for one another was such a joy. Their relationship felt natural, authentic, and incredibly charming. Every interaction between them had me smiling.

This book delivered magic, lovable characters, fantastic creature-filled adventures, and a romance that felt genuine from start to finish.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5/5 stars!

And now I am desperately waiting for the next book—because I need more of the grumpy Professor Coen. 😉

I received an ARC copy for an honest review!

I want to preface this by saying that I’m in a bit of a reading slump…and this one STILL grabbed my attention. Cerise and Liam are perfect. I cannot wait for Coen’s story, either.

I was able to easily give this five stars and I look forward to have the physical copy of this one because it’s such a good little cozy romance.

Below are my little comments while reading.

✨✨SPOILERS✨✨

Oh I’m already sensing some mommy issues from Cerise.

I like it when the black cat is the female and the golden retriever is the male. Perfect. 👌🏼

Chapter 6 and he’s already gotten her to smile. I love it.

“Are you trying to convince me or yourself”
Liam is exactly like my husband. Hahahah.

Oh Liam YEARNSSSSS. Love it.

Cerise and Liam are the perfect foil to each other. They make each other better versions of themselves and I just love it.

Liam is a top tier book boyfriend, I am OBSESSED.

Poor Cerise and her mommy issues. I can’t wait for her to tell her mom to shove it.

Nope never mind. Liam literally pulled the whole “you are just like your mother” thing. Worst thing ever.

Alright fine, he’s forgiven.

Efffffff you Anya!

All in all, a great read!

This is my first book by K.M. Gordon, and all I can say is… OMG💘 what did I just read?! I couldn’t put this book down. I devoured it in two days because it was THAT good!

The story was beautiful and so engaging. Not once did I feel bored. And Liam and Cerise… where do I even begin? 🥹 They’re honestly some of the best main characters I’ve ever read about. Cerise especially really touched me because I’ve been through something similar to what she experienced. I love her strength and the way she stood up to her mother🤍

And Liam? He was the sweetest person ever! So cute and absolutely hilarious. It was such a refreshing change from all the broody shadow daddies we keep getting these days 😂 Funny unhinged mmcs will always be my favorite!

Overall, I had an amazing time reading this book. I even loved all the knowledge we got about the plants and animals woven into the story🦋 I highly recommend it! and I’m jumping straight into the Daughter of the Earth series after this! I had a suspicion every time Coen appeared that he’d be the MMC of the next book, and turns out I was right hehe!

Thank you, K.M. Gordon for this ARC💜 It brought me so much joy, more than I can describe. I 100% recommend this book. An easy five stars and I can’t wait for book two! 💘

I was hooked the moment I discovered that the main characters were in their 30s! It was so refreshing to read about mature adults who can advocate for themselves, communicate their needs, and still have plenty of room for personal growth.

The story follows two delightfully nerdy professors—one uptight, rigid, and highly organised, the other chaotic, disorganised, and much more laid-back. Their opposing personalities create plenty of entertaining banter and chemistry. The characters also gave me strong neurodivergent vibes, which added another layer of relatability and depth to their interactions.

This is a cosy romance featuring forced proximity, fantastic character dynamics, and some delicious spice. Our golden retriever hero truly shines as the story progresses, revealing a surprisingly dominant side in the bedroom that perfectly complements the romance.

Alongside the romance, the story explores difficult family relationships and the importance of found family—the people who step in, support you, and save the day when you need them most.

This book is the perfect slump-buster: warm, funny, romantic, and deeply satisfying. By the final page, I was already wanting more. Highly recommended! 👌

“Find your joy and chase it” I absolutely LOVED this book and this line will stick with me forever! It is the perfect palette cleanser in-between heavy, emotionally devastating (and also wonderful) fantasy books. The banter between Cerise & Liam is top tier, they both have quirks that somehow feed off each other in the best way, and being with them as their story together unfolds is a thing of beauty. There is the perfect amount of spice, in my opinion, that lends itself to the storyline perfectly, it’s fantastically written. Liam will have you begging for more. 🔥I truly fell in love with these characters, their quirky and wonderful friends, and the beautiful world they are in. The jungle setting is something I don’t get a lot in the books I read, or the academic side of it with them being researchers and teachers, I ate it all up! Highly recommend this beautiful book, you will laugh out loud, smile like a fool, cheer these characters on when they stick up for themselves against others that need to be put in their place (all of which are very well written), shedding tears of happiness and joy, and then missing them dearly quickly after turning the last page ❤️ Pre-order this book, read it the moment it is available to you, you will love it!

🦋A Beastologist’s Field Notes of Fated Affection - K.M. Gordon

~Summary~
Cerise is an over-thinker and her life is routine driven. Liam has chaos running through his veins. They are meant to hate each other as they meet on this jungle expedition.
Proven otherwise they become friends. But affection and heat are bubbling under the surface and Cerise is scared to let go just once and not think about the consequences.

~My thoughts~
I would give this book 6 stars ⭐️ if I could! I adored those characters! They were like a fresh breeze. I’m obsessed with Liam, a green flag through and through. A man who knows what he wants, emotionally available and not scared to show his feelings either. My biggest respect for Cerise and her struggles with a narcissist mum. The entire story struck home for me, as I myself grew up in a home of narcissistic parents.

This being said I really went through all the emotions with this book… The best part was their chemistry and this underlying appreciation they had for each other! Beautifully written!

💜A big thank you goes to K.M Gordon for sending me your ARC. I’m honored and very happy to support you. I’m already excited for book 2, having a suspicion who Coen’s new boss might be. 👀

Katie’s writing is absolutely one of my favorites! You instantly get transported into a different world the moment from chapter 1. This book was so sweet! Seeing Cerise grow and let herself just be was so refreshing and beautiful. Liam, LAWD, that man has a MOUTH😮‍💨like I don’t think I’ve ever read a man more down bad than Liam. Is he unhinged oh absolutely, but just you wait till he’s in the bedroom😉

The expedition in the jungle was SO FUN! Picturing that world in my head, absolutely unreal. The magic, the creatures, UGH I LOVE. From the moment Liam went for Cerise I knew it’d be a wild ride and it did not disappoint. I’m so glad this series will be interconnected standalones! Sometimes you don’t want to start a new series bc of waiting for the next one and with this you get to experience the wild ride for yourself while getting the ending everyone deserves.

Katie ily and am so honored to be apart of your street team! Your books have left a magical impact on me and I’ll always be there to hype you up bc anything you create is just pure magic! And I am not just saying that bc I’m on the street team, I truly love everything she’s done.

Thank you, K.M. Gordon, for the ARC in return for an honest review.

What to expect -
🌴Characters in their 30s
🦋Opposites attract
🌴Professor x Professor
🦋Forced proximity
🌴Laugh out loud banter
🦋He falls first
🌴Academic romance
🦋 Touch of spice

Cerise, an expert beastologist, is part of expedition in the remote jungle to research wildlife with other expert scholars. She has been planning this trip to help her achieve one goal - become a dean at the university where she works.

Liam is offered the chance to join the team when Cerise's original partner falls ill and he thrilled take it, that is until he realizes he is partnered with Doctor Cerise Thornheart.

Cerise is a workaholic, craves her routine, passionate, competitive, uptight, driven, goal oriented and loved rules and order. Liam is the polar opposite, he loves chaos, a trickster, skilled at reading people, protective and unhinged. Can they find a way to work harmoniously, or will it all fall apart?

I loved watching Cerise grow, let go, have a laugh and step up to her mother. The world is simple with no fuss, once you step in, it does not want to let you go. Liam's mouth, OMG, it will have you melting!!

I cannot wait for more books in the Academics of Eldoria series.

First of all, thank you to K.M. Gordon for trusting me with my first ARC! (i'm French, we don't really do that here)

As always, K.M. Gordon does not disappoint. Like with the Daugther of the Earth series, I'm still in love with Gordon's writing and ways to tell a story.
I enjoyed reading about characters who haven't figure it all out despite being grown-ups, and the way they interact with the world just like us (afraid, silly sometimes and cannot throw a punch to save their life :D).
Cerise and Liam are so different and yet so similar at the same time. They make a great duo with playful banter and amazing chemistry!

Thank you to Cerise for showing us that we can change our life around even at 35, while still being our true self.
And thank you to Liam for his dirty mouth (i'm kidding… or not) and showing how to be carefree and express our sensibility.

"Chase your joy and don't be ashamed of it."

I cannot wait to read Gordon's next story, and Coen and Fiona's adventure next summer in the Academics of Eldoria series.

++ Bonus points for :
Dual POVs
Chapters with title
Lovely chapter headers

An ARC review of A Beastologist’s Field Notes of Fated Affection by KM Gordon

Wow. Just wow. The way I devoured this adventure, let me tell you I couldn't put it down.

The scenes from the Wilds of Magmira had me smiling at the epic adventures, plus all the twists and turns in the plot made for one epic tale. I would describe the vibe as if The Mummy meets Jumanji, but with romance at its heart for Cerise and Liam. I just loved their dynamic along with the hints of neurodiversities in his chaotic mess and her perfectionism.

The way the characters were challenged and overcame difficulties was done just perfectly, and I was rooting for them every step of the way like some teenager clutching onto her book way past bedtime.

My favourite moments included the tent prank, the gala and the letters.

K M Gordon, keep doing what you were made to do, give the world your words and we will eat them up. Write these two characters forever please- can they go back on another expedition perhaps in the future??

I cannot wait to see what more we will see from our boy Coen next!

I rate this epic tale - 5 stars!

"Even dreams aren't an escape from the depth of my feelings, because you don't me in those too."

This was a fun read. Cerise and Liam were both such polar characters, but opposites certainly attract (even if they don't know why)! The banter was funny, and I loved how exasperated Cerise would get with Liam, and it just fueled him in turn. But he grew on her, and watching them both realize it and then ACCEPT it was great.

I also appreciate that this was an academic setting, but wasn't professor x student. Having them both be experts in their fields was a refreshing take, one indefinitely hope to see again.

The underlying theme of trying to live up to over expectant parents, especially emotionally unavailable ones, is a touchy subject, and it was handled so nicely. We got to see what helped form Cerise and Liam's opposite personas, and how they both dealt with the growing backlash as adult.

I definitely resonate with Cerise's inability to let things just be, and her need to be in charge of everything at all times. And I LOVE Liam's carefree nature. And his dirty mouth.

A deep, heavy tale wrapped up in a funny, steamy love story.

I received this book as an Advanced Reader Copy and I am so glad I put my hand up for this book as my first ARC.

This novel was honestly everything you could want from a cozy, magical rom-com. The academia vibes mixed with magic creates the perfect world for Cerise and Liam as they navigate their wildly different personalities.

I adored both Cerise and Liam, and really appreciated the different perspectives from the two characters. Both had such strong voices and it really let you dive into their heads and experience this journey with them. As a fellow of the neurodivergent community, I loved that I could resonate with each of them differently. Also the side charcters? So good!!!

The spice? DIVINE! It has been a long time since I have read such well-done intimacy.

Just do yourself a favour and read this one as soon as it comes out! Honestly so worth it.

Thank you so much KM Gordon for accepting me as part of the ARC team. This book is already a favourite of mine and I will be re-reading this one again very soon!

In a word… spectacular! Joyful! Touching! Romantic! Unique! Adorable! Delightful! Okay so maybe I can’t describe this book in one word…
Holy shit I loved this book so much. I was giggling, blushing, grinning, kicking my feet, punching a wall and wiping away my tears all within the pages of this book.
I truly have no notes.
The setting was incredible, I felt like I was in the jungle with them, and the sadness I felt to be leaving that setting worked perfectly within the story.
Cerise and Liam are such perfect characters. They complement each other so completely and bring out the absolute best in each other. Experiencing the joy Liam helps to bring out of Cerise truly made my heart ache with happiness. I won’t say too much on how I feel about all the developments lest I give away the plot, but man this book delivered everything I was hoping for and more. Just 100/10.
And the way she sets up the next one…? Let’s just say… I’m SAT.

Thank you so much to KM Gordon for the ARC, all opinions are my own.

Thank you to the author for the arc opportunity!

"Chase your joy and don't be ashamed of it"

This was an absolutely incredible piece of work that I can not recommend enough. Gordon was able to incorporate so many different elements into the book all while completely ripping out my heart in the process.

I knew going in that I was going to love Liam, he literally looks like Gojo and has the personality of Howl. Perfect already. I was not expecting for him to resonate so well and so deep with me. So many elements of his personality and his background, especially with his family, hit so close to home. I absolutely adored him in this and Gordon nailed his character.

The story itself was so well written, so intriguing, and was impossible to put down. Once I started reading I could not stop and I'm honestly upset that it wasn't longer. The spice was so, so incredible and the DIRTY TALK in this. The absolute filth that came out of that man's mouth was *chef's kiss*.

I absolutely recommend this one to people who need a little whimsy in their life, you won't regret picking it up!

A Beastologist's Field Notes of Fated Affection by K. M. Gordon is a cozy fantasy with romcom vibes & just the right amount of spice.

In my complete honest opinion this book deserves all the stars. And I mean ALL OF THEM!

From page one where we meet organized, practical, no nonsense Cerise Thornheart I couldn’t put this book down.

The author did an amazing job with this magical, academia, jungle adventure storyline & I was obsessed with reading this book.

Cerise’s character was awesome - I loved how she was very scheduled & proper but not boring in the slightest. Her character growth & self-discovery really made her one of the best female characters I’ve ever met.

Now Liam Pendragon? Oh my gosh that fictional man is absolute perfection. I love him & he is top tier book boyfriend material.

I really loved everything about this story & it was truly a magical book that I will most definitely be reading again.

Thanks so much to the author for gifting me this early review copy of what is without a doubt one of my all time favorite books.

Thanks so much to K. M Gordon for my arc, I really appreciate it.

I was so excited to receive this, as soon as I read the summary I knew I'd love this book, it really appealed to me.

It's such a delight, there's so many funny moments, such great banter. But it also has a more serious side: it's a love story between two damaged people, one who was told they were too much and the other who was told they weren't enough.

It follows the adventures of Cerise, who has lived in her Mother's shadow all her life. She fills her days with routines and order. So when she meets Liam, who appears to be her polar opposite: he is all chaos and spontaneity, their personalities clash. They embark on a journey to discover new species and bit by bit as they learn more about each other they discover they aren't as different as they originally thought.

I loved that this was dual POV, it was so fun to read what they each truly thought of each other, that we could experience them falling in love. Their bickering was so endearing and when they finally got together the heat was so intense!

I am so looking forward to the next book on this world.
