This book could’ve been 4 stars, but it had way to many editing errors. Sometimes the timeline was junky and it didn’t make sense.
(Possible spoilers ahead)
Best friend in the title is not accurate. OW was not the heroine’s BFF. Idk it was weird and didn’t go into details about this. OW wasn’t even in the wedding so I’d assume they were just friends. But not friendly enough to be in your wedding party.
The book starts the night before hero/heroine’s wedding. h sees H get a message from OW “I’m late” and naturally h is like huh?
Whoosh! Every single thing ever happens to the heroine and hero after this. They seriously pissed somebody off in their past lives or something because it WAS ALL GAS. The OTT drama was insane and I didn’t think they would ever get over it.
Heroine is marrying hero when “does anybody object” gets asked and this OW does. 🤪 She comes out wearing a dress similar to the heroine. OW announces she is pregnant with the hero’s baby. Heroine is DESTROYED and the hero is equally wrecked. Hero CAN’T deny that he slept with OW. Heroine peaces out. BYE 👋 OW is all smug and she’s cackling with the hero’s mom.
Y’all, my heart absolutely broke for the hero. YES THE CHEATING HERO. 🫣 We started to get a few chapters in his POV and this man was destroyed. It was clear he loved the heroine. He was struggling so hard because he didn’t remember the night he was with OW, BUT he knows he woke up naked with her. Look 👀….i kind of figured something shady happened because there was no way this man would ever cheat on the heroine. His POV convinced me of that.
This hero spends weeks just trying to talk to the heroine. His world is destroyed. I seriously wondered if he was going to unalive himself. She does eventually listen to him and she does believe he got drunk enough to be taken advantage of but she straight up tells him that she can’t be with him if he has a baby with OW.
You will get a lot of flashbacks to when they were kids. It’s super sweet, but really didn’t add anything to the story. There was never any doubt that the hero truly loved the heroine.
The crazy mom keeps trying to push the hero and OW together. Let me tell ya, hero was not excited to be a daddy at all. The DNA test (the mom had) proves hero is 💯 the daddy. OW keeps talking about nursery colors and furniture and hero is over here like 🔪🔪🔪. His POV had my heart hurting. This man was wrecked.
📍Anyway- the major plot twist below.. Don’t read any further if you don’t want to be spoiled. 📍
The hero’s mom is bat shit crazy. The witch needs to be in an asylum. She hated the hero’s relationship with the heroine. She tried to break them up over the years. OW was boiling bunny obsessed with the hero. Add two crazy people together and you get an OTT dumpster fire.
One night when hero was at some event ?? OW drugged his drink. She helped him back to his room. She stripped him naked and she tried to have smex with him. He was so out of it, but he was also in extreme distress because he puked on her several times. OW was disgusted about all the puke. Thankfully, the puke saved the hero from being raped by OW. OW just set the scene to look like they had smex. Hero’s mom was behind all of this. 😱😱 Oh yeah, OW was not pregnant. She was wearing a fake bump. So yes, that means the DNA test that said the hero was the daddy was fake.
It ends like you’d expect. A real wedding, and the heroine just had a baby. The crazy mom was completely cut off and she left the country. OW was now living in a trailer park. Heroine went to see her. OW’s life is not good. The heroine did slap her. 🤪
I just didn’t vibe with the crazy mom’s motives. Why would she want her son with OW? It wasn’t like OW was rich and successful. Her whole plan was just goofy asf. The crazy mom knew that OW had a fake bump. Umm. What was her plan? Why in the world would you want your son to marry somebody who pretends to be pregnant?
It’s mentioned that crazy mom didn’t like the heroine because she hated heroine’s mom- and that she knew her husband loved her. We needed more details about that. It deserved a deeper dive; instead we got one quick sentence that mentioned it. I was literally like…”wait! What the FK” 🤷♀️ I went a few pages back, then a few pages forward to see if I missed something. Ugh
I really want to say that the hero was the star in this book. He deserves all the stars. Yes, a bit of a dumdum but his devotion to the heroine was world class. I did feel all the emotions reading his POV. It’s too bad that the author made so many OTT outlandish plots that made no sense.
My Husband's Secret Pregnancy Texts to My Best Friend, part of the Her Marriage in Crisis series, was about 25-year-old Selene Lockhart and 25-year-old Kalix Montero
Selene had loved Kalix since she was 8. She had known Abigail Ellington since she was 12. The night before their wedding, Kalix sneaked into her hotel room, and after he fell asleep, a text message appeared on his phone from Abigail that stated: "I'm late", but didn't specify what she was late for. Selene would learn that the following day.
Just before the officiant pronounced them husband and wife, Abigail showed up in a white dress, with a pregnancy test...and said the baby was Kalix's. When Selene asked him if it was true, he could only stutter.
There was a lot to unpack with this story, including a ton of angst, drama, and an emotional rollercoaster that kept the reader's head spinning. The conflict was off the charts, and the push-pull between the two main characters was enough to keep the reader's attention.
I gave this a three-star rating because it actually earned it.
This started out as sort of a run of the mill, and then it got interesting…
I have to say that if my own mother did what this one did, I’d completely stop contact with her, probably forever. What a horrid thing to do to your own son.
What’s always interesting about a trope like this is the delusion that the OW always has. If I’d met you first, you’d love me. Really? Are you serious?
KU read and better than average… really enjoyed this one.
I have read a lot of this book series. Some stories are better than others..
But this book was just awful I can’t even begin to discuss everything that was wrong with it besides being way too long, it was robotic and confusing right from the get go their ages change completely throughout the story. Are the 24,25, 30,33? it was mind boggling how their ages varied so much considering they were the same age.
And title doesn’t fit either the OW was never her “best friend” it would have been more fitting to say it was his friend.
And these two have been sweethearts since 16 but he didn’t recognize her boss, he is obvious rich but she has to take a bus seriously? What is happening. I mean I hate that my OCD made me finish just to see how this absolute train wreck of a non edited story ended
It was So repetitive with “since we were” “since we were” 8, 10, 16,17 over and over ughh it was so annoying especially with how many times they said each names too. Enough
And don’t get me started on the time frames It jumped from like 1-2 months after wedding to 5 and then 9 months and the OW was still pregnant she was like 2 months overdue. It was November for almost 3 months straight. They were together in penthouse for November then she finds out she 4 weeks pregnant in November when she was suppose to be leaving that night but then it’s 4 days later and he is recovering for 82 days but it’s still November. The go to cabin and it’s still November.
Seriously edit this story it was awful lost count of how many mistakes with ages, timeframes, who’s speaking. Wrong pronouns the list is endless
They threw in two weird plot twists that were irrelevant and never even brought up again (Boss lunch at the end? Her mom and his Dad? Cringey.
I pick up this book for a quick read, this author is good at that. A lot of her books seems generated by AI or at least heavily assisted, but surprisingly this one didn’t, the writing seemed better, although im seeing a lot of people complaining about errors, honestly i didn’t notice maybe because i was so enraged with the plot. I came here for some betrayal and groveling and you move on, but this book made me very very mad.
So let me get this straight.
The MMC “cheats” on the FMC. Technically they were on a break, but let’s be honest, that distinction doesn’t matter much when it comes to the emotional fallout. The FMC walks away from him at the altar, and from that point on, the book becomes one disaster after another.
Apparently, the FMC would’ve forgiven him almost immediately if he’d simply told her about that night instead of hiding it. That’s it. No real struggle, no lasting consequences. She decides the only thing standing between them is the fact that he’s supposedly having a child with another woman. The fact that he was with that woman in the first place seems completely forgotten. And despite all of this? She sleeps with him.
But the ballroom scene is where this book truly lost me.
The MMC attends a public event with the other woman as his date, openly presenting her to society. Then he deliberately dances with her to hurt the FMC and provoke a reaction in front of everyone. What kind of person uses the exact woman who caused the most pain imaginable to inflict even more pain? He could’ve danced with literally anyone else in that room. Instead, he chose the woman connected to the betrayal.
It was disgusting.
And what does the FMC do afterward?
She sleeps with him again.
Because apparently that makes perfect sense.
The MMC spends the entire book declaring his love for the FMC. He claims he’ll give up everything for her, fight for her, choose her above all else. Yet every single action he takes says the opposite. He does whatever his mother tells him to do, publicly assumes a relationship with the woman he supposedly hates, never seriously investigates whether the baby is even his, attends family dinners with her, takes her to public events, dances with her in front of everyone, and even moves back into his parents’ house where she’s living.
But don’t worry, he still finds time to sneak away for passionate encounters with the FMC.
It’s absolutely ridiculous.
Then, somehow, things get even worse.
The two spend her final weeks in town acting like lovesick teenagers on a romantic getaway. They’re having sex, playing house, and pretending nothing else exists. As if he didn’t betray her. As if another woman wasn’t supposedly pregnant with his child. As if he wasn’t publicly attached to that woman and living under the same roof as her.
And the FMC? She essentially becomes the other woman in her own love story.
The MMC even accepts that this is their last chance together. What happened to all the promises about fighting for her? Giving up his fortune? Walking away from everything? Instead, he just goes along with the situation.
Then comes the accident.
Two weeks later, the FMC is at the hospital caring for him like a devoted partner, completely overlooking the fact that there is still supposedly a pregnant woman waiting back at his parents’ house. During this time, he’s busy running his empire from a hospital bed, but somehow telling the FMC the truth about the fake pregnancy isn’t a priority.
The entire thing is laughable.
The only reason this story doesn’t completely collapse is because the FMC already knows the truth. She saw proof that nothing actually happened between the MMC and the other woman.
But even that revelation comes with another frustrating moment: the FMC admits that by this point she doesn’t even care anymore. She would’ve forgiven the betrayal. She would’ve forgiven the child. She would’ve forgiven everything, just to be with him.
And honestly? Good thing the pregnancy was fake, because nothing in this book suggests the MMC would’ve handled the situation properly otherwise. If it had been real, I half expected the FMC and the other woman to start sharing visitation rights to him at his parents’ house because he certainly wasn’t making the FMC a priority.
What truly baffled me was the ending.
The FMC apologizes.
She apologizes for not trusting him. For not being there for him.
Excuse me, what?
No, he didn’t sleep with the other woman. But he still failed spectacularly. He never established boundaries. He publicly claimed her as his date because his mother wanted him to. He lived with her. He paraded her around at events. He said all the right things to the FMC while consistently doing the exact opposite.
Yet somehow the FMC ends up apologizing.
The book gets its happily-ever-after, and if all you’re looking for is the couple ending up together, you’ll probably be satisfied.
Unfortunately, I needed actions to match the declarations of love. Instead, I got a hero who talked about choosing the FMC while repeatedly choosing everyone and everything else. He legit turn the fmc into the other woman, i can’t deal with that.
I'm rating this one higher than I do most of these books, simply because this one was much better than most. Sure, there are the normal typo and punctuation issues, but they are not super common, and they are easy to overlook for the most part. I very much liked that the plot on this book was something different. It wasn't a normal cookie-cutter book like so many others before.
OK, sure, he wasn't her husband yet, since they hadn't finished the wedding. Plus, there was only one text, and it was fake anyway. Add in the fact that the OW was NOT in fact our FMC Best Friend, and you get the title of this book that honestly doesn't match anything in the book at all. The authors (of which two are credited) both need to do better.
The writing and the suspense totally had me suspecting his mom being behind it all, and it was right. But, what wasn't explained is why she went to such lengths to help Abigail, unless she actually thought she was pregnant. But why would she have made such a better match for her son? She never explained her reasoning. Sure, it was all crap, but there had to be something that she kept telling herself to make her believe it.
I do hope that other books by these two authors together end up as good as this one. Overall, I would give this book a 3, but since this is a series of historically bad books so far, it earned another star from me for being so much better than the rest of them.

The hero here is apparently expecting a child with the heroines friend. Not her bff thought. He was basically drugged and exploited by ow because his own mother wanted to get rid of the heroine so during his wedding with the heroine ow turns up and revels she’s preggo. Poor man was exploited, forced and used by his own family. It was disgusting and imo he was the main ictim. He should have told the heroine immediately what happened. He was totally unconscious and eventually he didn’t even do anything with ow. But he was raped and taken advantage of with his mother’s complicity. Awful. Very angsty because of what happened to him, I felt sorry more for him than for the heroine. At a certain point his mother wanted him to marry ow and to recognize the child, he was really abused. And he didn’t want either ow and the child. Poor guy. Yet, he should have talked about his experience as soon as it happened. He and the heroine were one and only. She would have helped him, but he was ashamed of what happened and so he paved the path for disaster. All is well in the end, with a mother like his, better be orphaned.
It’s the inconsistencies and inaccuracies for me. Some of these books can be decent or even good, but this was not. It had potential with the storyline but the authors ruin it by not sticking to a solid story that deserved the time and attention needed to just do one editing run with a competent person who could catch all of the many, many stupid errors.
Kalix and that becomes pretty clear early on. I figured maybe he was a victim of rape at worst but my suspicions proved correct.
I don’t know why the title says “my best friend” as Selene and the OW didn’t seem friendly at all. I mean I get that you wouldn’t want to remain friends after that but there’s no mention of the two of them ever being friends at any point.
But it’s the errors. I just cannot. It’s so distracting and really makes this book crap.
While there is a need for editing, I found this story interesting and could not wait for the conclusion. Loved the character development and the back story. The mother of the MMC was a seriously evil, manipulative and vile witch who fortunately received her just karma. Her patsy OW was not a victim, she was a co-conspirator who fortunately also received justice. I felt for the main characters and the lengths they went to to survive evil. That they remained true to each other and won in the end to earn their highly deserved HEA.
This book is likely the author's finest work to date. It draws inspiration from classic love stories of past millennia, featuring themes such as a wealthy young man, a less affluent young woman, a societal class divide, a manipulative mother of the rich protagonist, and an equally scheming other woman. Naturally, it also portrays a lifelong love that defied categorization or intimidation. The writing itself was fluid and flawless. This stands out as one of my preferred stories within this specific genre. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Again friends betrayal but not what it seems ,this was more of a love story which was so sad to think that for a moment they could have lost each other if the strong love wasn't there .Mother of the groom a absolute nightmare and best friend just a horrible piece of work ,but whenever money and status is involved it makes people power mad and dsnt care who they hurt along the way .Good ending and extra bonus chapter
The main female character forgives him or seems to forget he cheated very early on, as far as she knows anyway, which made the whole book feel utterly far fetched and even more ridiculous than it could have been. He constantly blames her for leaving … as if he’s forgotten that he utterly betrayed her. This lack of acknowledgement was jarring. Wouldn’t recommend on that basis.
Im not sure I would call the offending girl the best friend. She wasn't already in the wedding...? Strange. The book was sweet and sad in all the right places. Sometimes the wording (for me) of the spicy scenes seemed off and didn't match the flow of the authors previous, non spicy, words. I still enjoyed it.
I love how their love is so strong and against all odds they made it back to each other. Between mother and ex best friend nothing could actually tear them apart. Love concurs all.
Absolutely the best couple in this series! Loved it all the way through. The bonus was muah 😘 chef's kiss. Well written one of the few in the series that didn't have any continuity issues 👏
Wow! What a roller coaster of emotions. The last thing Selene expected was having her best friend announce at church that she was expecting a baby with her future husband! Pandemonium ensued! Highly recommended
This story pulls on all the emotions. Kalix is tricked and nearly trapped by his deceitful mother who would stoop to any level to get rid of Selene. The storyline is masterfully written.
To think a mother could do that to her son, not caring about his happiness was hard to read you've written this story so well it flowed your characters were authentic and very believable. Great story
I laughed and cried reading this book, the characters seemed real the feelings were real and just enough angst to wonder how it would turn out. Very good book
Well written and with a great plot line. Love conquers all. It was quite drawn out but in the whole it was a nice love story with the drama spicing it up
