Charlie lives in England with her husband and a dachshund named Biscuit. She spends most of her days wrangling other people’s words in her day job and then trying to force her own onto the page in the evening.

Topped was such a sweet book and a great end to my summer reading! A great ending to a wonderful series!
I’ve been watching Milo and Rupert antagonize each other in the previous books, so I was excited to finally get their story. I love a loathe-to-friends-to-lovers romance, it’s so much fun to read. Milo is such a chaotic, lovable character, while Rupert is more guarded and prickly, but somehow they work so well together. I loved watching their chemistry grow, but I also really enjoyed how they learned to understand and reassure each other.
The neurodivergent representation was another highlight for me. The ADHD representation was spot on and really resonated with me. Both characters have their own struggles with communication, insecurity, and rejection, and I appreciate books that treat these as important parts of who they are without completely defining them. We deserve love too, with all of our lovable quirks!
I also loved getting to spend more time with the characters from the previous books. It gave the series that cozy, found-family feeling. Definitely recommend, it was a great read!

You know how we always get told that the irritating person is just trying to get our attention because they don't know how to say they like us? That's kind of the case with Topped... we learn that Regection Sensitivity is a true neurospicy issue and we get to see how two neurodivergent people can make a relationship work if they both want the same thing... it moves from petty rivalry to friendship to more at a lovely pace and it was fun watching these two men connect on multiple levels.

I'm sad that we're done with the Lick It! books, but I hope we'll be back in Heather Bay soon, getting to check on the guys and the rest of the Heather Bay men.

Topped wrapped up the Lick It series perfectly. 🍦

For me, this series was my summer ’26 read, with Alfie, Darcy and Milo starting their ice cream shop. But in the last book, they leave summer behind…

And summer isn’t the only thing left behind. Milo also leaves his little feud with Rupert, the candy shop owner, behind.

No more building an army of seagulls to pester Rupert. Instead, all of Milo’s thoughts get put to better use figuring out how to make friends with the quirky neighbour who owns the shop next door.

Milo quickly realises he’s actually quite fascinated by the man with the colourful clothes and pretty smile.

Rupert, on the other hand, needs a man like Milo. Someone who wears his heart and feelings on his sleeve because Rupert’s rejection anxiety, combined with his ADHD, makes him question almost everything about himself.

I loved how patient Milo was with him and how the world slowly became a brighter place for Rupert with Milo’s love.

And the absolute topping on the ice cream was getting to see the other couples happy too. 🥹 It was such a perfect way to wrap up the series.

Topped is the third book in the Lick It! series featuring three best friends who open up an ice cream shop together. This story has a lot of the same sweet, cozy (but sexy) charm of the first two books and, after watching Milo in the background of the other stories, it was nice to get to know him better here. Milo is sort of a chaotic sweetheart, frequently acting on instinct without always thinking things through (the story opens with him shaving off all his hair and mustache on somewhat of a whim). His impulsiveness sometimes gets Milo in trouble, but he has such a positive energy and genuine enthusiasm for life that it makes him an appealing character.

This book looks to tie up the series and we get a look into the future that gives us a sense of all three couples. I found this a cute and charming series and a nice choice if you like some sweet and sexy small town vibes.

Thank you to the author Charlie Novak and also the Author Agency for sending me the arc of Topped. I’m literally obsessed, it’s not even healthy the amount of giddiness I got reading Milo and Rupert’s story!!!! I love them so much, and as the story progressed my obsession grew!!!

This book was wonderfully British, I absolutely loved it and it added to the charm. Every book we get the occasional British slang but this was just perfection! Being from England it was a sense of pride but also we get a lot of the inside jokes 😂😂

This is the third book in the ‘Lick it’ series which brings me so much joy because I can go back and read the other 2!!! This can be read as a standalone tho, you won’t be lost at all but it’s just a bonus we get more cameos in the other book (well hopefully)

Rupert is quiet and reserved, with a tongue sharper than a knife. I love his quick comebacks but he hides from people and they miss out on meeting this wonderful guy! All he has is Norman and his customers until Milo comes crashing into his life.

The fact Milo tried to train seagulls to poop on Rupert’s doorstep just shows how cooky he really is. I absolutely love him! He’s like an energised bunny rabbit that needs to be pet constantly 😂😂 but not liking mince pies is unforgivable!!!!!! They’re a classic and no one call tell me otherwise.

It starts out bumpy with a stupid turf war sort of thing when Milo just pulls stupid pranks to p*** off Rupert 😂😂 which results in the awkwardness and I wouldn’t say hostile but Milo did not give a good first impression at all. Rupert’s interesting to him tho, and that interest is what leads him to trying extra hard to make things right (and also to avoid a lecture from Darcy) but it’s the best thing he can do because look what it leads to 🥹🥹🥹

As the talk more and more, their chemistry is hard to ignore. Who knew Rupert’s pet snake Miss Elizabeth Bennet would be the ultimate wingwoman! She was the one who got Rupert to invite Milo to his house so I call that a win. I absolutely adore them together and every issue and insecurity they have with themselves, it’s like the opposite have the solution and it makes their relationship so sweet 🥰🥰🥰

This series is so cute! I loved that Milo ended up with Rupert, and I really enjoyed seeing them figure things out!

The 'beef' between Milo and Rupert had been very entertaining in the previous books, seeing Milo draw property lines in chalk and trying to train an army of seagulls… They were opposites in a lot of ways, and their differences created some friction between them initially when Lick It! was opened. This book was mainly focused on their romance though, them slowly becoming friends and that leading to more.

It took some time for Milo to realise the reason why he’d been such an annoyance to Rupert, that he’d just been trying to get attention from someone he found fascinating. It was sweet to see the change in their interactions, and how they were both feeling a little insecure and vulnerable with the shift in their relationship. Rupert was used to keeping people at a distance as a way to protect himself, so it took some time and patience before he started to let Milo in. I loved how well written and deeply thoughtful his PoV was, and it was interesting to see him work through his thoughts and feelings.

Milo and Rupert were precious together and they were so cute when they first started hanging out together. I also loved Rupert’s pet snake Miss Elizabeth Bennet and the way she kind of acted like an ice breaker between them. I also didn’t expect the steam, the dirty talk was really hot and Rupert being a bit of a soft Dom was the best surprise!

Topped was an adorable ending to a fantastic series! I’ve loved being back in Heather Bay and getting to know this little found family. This series has been so sweet and full of understanding and supportive characters, and it certainly felt like perfect summer stories!

I have been waiting for their story for some time and this just shows how much I fell in love with Milo and Rupert. I have to say that I think this one might be my favorite in this series. I just love them so much.

When Milo showed up with the ice cream in the first part of the book, it was so awkward because of the lack of freezer. From that moment, I just fell in love with both of them.

And Elizabeth Bennett aka Lizzie , the snake. I freaking love the fact that Rupert had a pet snake. And when they couldn’t find her later in the book. I was dying laughing when Milo scolded her for scaring poor Rupert.

The spicy scenes are always top notch. Charlie never ceases to disappoint me because I was in it. Mixing ice cream in spice scenes is always a good time. Messy but fun.

When these two start to realize that the lack of miscommunication when they first met, they realize they do like each other.

I love that we also get the other cameos from the other books and the ending was so perfect.

I cannot wait to see what is next because this series was utter perfection in my eyes.

This book was such a cute read and a great way to wrap up the Lick It! series! Rupert and Milo’s story is a fun dislike-to-lovers romance. In the previous book, these two were constantly antagonizing each other for reasons they didn’t fully understand. But in this one, we learn that Milo had actually always been intrigued by Rupert and was basically acting like a schoolboy teasing his crush to get his attention.

I loved that both Rupert and Milo were neurodivergent, quirky, and completely unique characters. They fit together so well, with each of them accepting the other exactly as they were. It was especially fun to watch Rupert finally meet someone who said exactly what he was thinking and was direct enough that Rupert didn’t have to get consumed by his own anxiety or uncertainty. At the same time, Milo had to learn that sometimes he needed to actually voice what he was thinking because no one else could hear his inner monologue. 😂

Their journey to becoming a couple was really sweet as they learned how to communicate with each other in ways that made them both feel understood and safe in the relationship.

The most surprising thing about this book, though, was the spice! Sweet Rupert as a soft dom in the bedroom? And his dirty talk?! I was absolutely eating it up. 🥵 These two had some seriously fun spicy scenes. And the ice cream??? IYKYK. 😉🍦

The side characters also added so much life and humor to the story. I loved that Rupert had a pet snake named Elizabeth Bennett, and that Milo instantly loved her and immediately set out to make her a bonnet. I will always love it when pets become side characters in a story! It was also fun to see so much of Alfie and Darcy and their boyfriends, while Norman was another highlight with his snarky personality and hilarious presence.

Overall, this was a sweet, fun, low-angst MM romance that had me smiling the whole time. If you need a good palate cleanser after some heavier reads, I definitely recommend this one!

A very cute ending for the sweetest series in Heather Bay!

Milo & Rupert started the series as “enemies” with businesses right next to each other in Heather Bay. But it’s clear throughout the series that they both might actually fancy the other more than they feel any animosity. And in this book they finally get up the courage to talk to each other, well Milo does as he wants to make friends with Rupert.

What Milo doesn’t expect is for his feelings for Rupert to become romantic, and the same definitely goes for Rupert. Though they weren’t always the best communicators (talk about avoidance tendencies) it made sense for their characters & meant that when they did have important conversations they didn’t shy away from any topics.

Overall this was a very sweet & spicy romance.

Finally! Milo and Rupert get their story. In the previous stories these two were back and forth. Milo likes to taunt, Rupert is grumbly lol. But finally we get to see those sparks flying between these two. And the wait was so worth it. Their attraction was so undeniable. So to be able to see these two finally admit to one another that they have feelings. This was sweet and fun. The absolute bear way to wrap up this series.

This was sent to me as an ARC but these are my honest thoughts. I adored this book. Rupert and Milo were both such interesting characters. One a little chaotic. The other more reserved and anxious. Both neurodivergent in different ways. I only had a superficial understanding of rejection sensitivity going in, but by the end my heart was absolutely breaking for poor Rupert. The spice was amazing, but it was the way these two were so honest and open in their communication that really captured me. This was a swoony low angst read that I would recommend to anyone and everyone.

Oh I loved this whole series! It’s sweet but also gives you the heat! So this story is about Milo the last of the lick it boys and Rupert the shop owner next door who Milo tormented for most of the summer!
Sort of an enemies to lovers because he had been tormenting him but when the book started they were cordial!
They started talking when Rupert brought up about his snake Lizzie and Milo was immediately interested and Rupert invited him over to see her!
Their friendship started off slow but Milo asked Rupert to lunch and that’s where it changed
Milo was staring at Rupert’s lips and Rupert was staring at milos I love that Rupert is blunt and says what he wants
They compliment each other because they both are outlandish in the ways of their life Milo more so with his clothing and whatnot and Rupert well his is toned down but his thoughts betray him because of his adhd
I love that Milo talks him through his worries and never ever shys away from Rupert’s sometimes wandering thoughts!
I didn’t expect Rupert to have such a mouth on him! That caught me off guard but when he said he was going to teach Milo some manners!! Sir! That was 🔥
I like that they both took care of each other and how they were verse and could explore everything! They had some 🔥 with some ice cream!!!
No really third act breakup or anything messy but some communication issues on both parts
Milo although not diagnosed his brain works differently too and while he has these feelings for Rupert he had to make them fully known
Rupert was scared to share all his thoughts because he was afraid of Milo leaving
Milo stood his ground and basically told him he was a stubborn sob and wasn’t going to leave him! Rupert realized that Milo was serious and they were boyfriends!!
We get updates about everyone else in the lickit universe!!! We get a time jump which was perfect because we get to see Alfie and Jonathan get married!!!! Owen and Darcy are still together and Milo and Rupert are living together and happy!

It was the perfect end to another perfect day in a never-ending string of perfect days. Because of course they were perfect, even if they were stressful, difficult, or exhausting. I have a confession.

I think it took me three books to realize:

I was completely new to Charlie Novak when I started the Lick It series, and Book 1 took some adjusting for me.

Everything was so...

Calm.

Sweet.

Low angst.

Nobody was fighting demons.

Nobody was committing felonies.

Nobody was being kidnapped.

Nobody was preparing for war.

😂

My brain was basically sitting there going:

**BUT WHEN DOES THE THING HAPPEN?!**

Turns out...

That's the point.

These books are sweet little British rom-coms set in a lovely seaside resort town where three friends run an adorable ice cream shop, fall in love, have relatively reasonable adult problems...

And then have surprisingly hot sex.

😂

Once I stopped waiting for the world to explode?

**I GOT IT.**

And by Book 3, I was genuinely invested in Heather Bay and these characters.

It's almost like if Nick and Charlie from **Heartstopper** met later in life at an ice cream shop...

**And made it spicy.**

That's the vibe.

And I mean that as a compliment.

## MILO + RUPERT

Milo has spent basically the entire summer antagonizing Rupert, the gorgeous but prickly owner of the sweet shop next door.

These two have developed their own little battle.

They annoy each other.

They rile each other up.

Rupert thinks Milo is a prick.

Fair.

😂

But then something shifts.

They actually start hanging out.

And...

Oh.

Maybe Milo completely misjudged Rupert.

Maybe underneath all that prickliness is someone sensitive and vulnerable who has convinced himself he's difficult to love.

And maybe Milo actually really freaking likes him.

Then they're friends.

Then they're hooking up.

Then they're...

Wait.

**ARE WE IN A RELATIONSHIP?!**

😂

I loved that progression.

Neither one of them seemed particularly prepared for what was happening until suddenly they were basically a couple.

Whoops.

## THE ADHD REPRESENTATION ❤️

This was probably one of my favorite parts.

Both Milo and Rupert have ADHD traits, with one diagnosed and one not, and I found so many little pieces of their experiences relatable.

There were moments where I was basically:

**Oh.**

I loved seeing neurodivergent characters whose ADHD wasn't simply used as a quirky personality trait.

It affects how they interact with the world.

How they communicate.

How they understand themselves.

How they understand each other.

And I really appreciated that.

I somehow made it through all three books without mentioning this, but...

**THE COVERS OF THIS SERIES ARE STUNNING.**

Honestly, the cover of the first book is a huge part of why I picked it up in the first place.

And even when I wasn't completely sold on the series yet, those gorgeous covers absolutely helped make me want to keep going.

They're colorful, charming, summery, and they fit the whole Heather Bay ice-cream-shop vibe so freaking well.

I know.

I know.

But come on.

Sometimes a beautiful cover gets a book into your hands long enough for the story inside to win you over.

And honestly?

That's kind of exactly what happened to me with Lick It.

## A REALLY SATISFYING ENDING

What ultimately made me love this book even more was getting to see all three Lick It men with the partners they've found throughout the series.

By this point, I cared about them.

I cared about their little shop.

I cared about Heather Bay.

And seeing everyone get their happy ending made this such a satisfying conclusion.

It's funny because I wasn't sure this series was for me when I started it.

And now I'm actually a little sad to leave.

Apparently Charlie Novak just needed to slow-burn **ME.**

I think this might be my favourite in the series! I’ve been obsessed with Milo since book one. He’s wonderfully chaotic and keeps everyone on their toes. I’ve been so excited for Milo and Rupert’s story especially since their first impressions of one another were not great and went downhill very quickly but then started looking up? This entire book was just as wonderful as I was expecting it to be and Milo and Rupert really managed to get themselves together. I really enjoyed how Milo’s chaos and animosity towards Rupert was already toned down at the beginning of this book and instead it was just pure curiosity. Seeing Milo find ways to interact with Rupert and befriend him was adorable but also perfectly Milo.

I really enjoyed seeing how these two seemingly different characters also managed to fit together so perfectly. Rupert was nervous and anxious about being Milo’s friend and something more and Milo was of course going full steam ahead and ready to move in with Rupert and Lizzie. Surprisingly, Milo’s chaos and enthusiasm seemed to help Rupert understand that Milo really did want to hang out with him and Lizzie. I also loved how Rupert felt comfortable enough to explain some of his thought process to Milo and the way Milo immediately understood and made sure to reassure Rupert whenever he saw him overthinking. As much as I love a good chaotic character, it was also so lovely to see Milo’s sweet side with Rupert and Lizzie. It made me so happy to see him understand and know exactly what to say or do to make sure Rupert was okay and not spiraling.

I was also very amused by how Milo and Rupert’s relationship ended up being the least angsty in the series, especially with how their first meeting went. While these two did need a little shove to get their heads on right and admit they wanted to be boyfriends, they did manage to mostly do it on their own without any big dramatic moments or talking to’s from the bunny mafia. And while the side characters in this book weren’t as scary as the previous books, they were absolutely lovely. Norman and Lizzie were both delightful and strong supporters of Milo and Rupert. As was the rest of the Lick It crew. I really loved seeing them all together and seeing Milo with his friends and their boyfriends. I especially loved how much Milo adored Jonathan and how he knew that they would all accept Rupert into their group. This was a wonderful conclusion to the series and I hope to see these characters again someday!

Milo es mi personaje favorito de la serie Lick It, y hasta puedo decir uno de mis personajes favoritos de todo el mundo literario de Charlie, desde que lo conocí en el libro uno, supe que su libro sería mi favorito y déjenme decirles que no me equivoque, no iba a más del 40% y ya sabía que iba a hacer un libro cinco estrellas.

La historia es adorable, es hermosa, es todo lo que pude pedir, Rupert y Milo son dos personajes que son almas gemelas, son lo que cada uno necesitaba y eso, eso para mi fue hermoso. Milo como dije, es mi personaje favorito y leer su historia me hizo ver tantas cosas de mi misma que me sorprendió tanto, su personalidad, sus manías, TODO de él me encantó y lo amo mucho.

Rupert es de esos personajes que crecen en ti, que mientras más lees más lo vas queriendo y tanto él como Elizabeth la serpiente, se ganaron mi amor incondicional.

El romance fue hermoso, todo me encanto y es que no puedo decir nada malo de esta historia, toda la serie, desde el libro uno hasta este siento que se convirtió en mi favorita y de verdad me apena que este sea el último libro, pero también, terminó con broche de Oro.

Milo is my favorite character in the Lick It! series, and I’d even go so far as to say he’s one of my favorite characters in Charlie’s entire literary universe. Ever since I met him in Book One, I knew his book would be my favorite and let me tell you, I wasn’t wrong. I wasn’t even 40% through, and I already knew it was going to be a five-star book.

The story is adorable, it’s beautiful—it’s everything I could have asked for. Rupert and Milo are two characters who are soulmates; they’re exactly what each of them needed, and that—that, to me, was beautiful. Milo, as I said, is my favorite character, and reading his story made me see so many things about myself that it really surprised me. His personality, his quirks—I loved EVERYTHING about him and I love him so much.

Rupert is one of those characters who grows on you, the more you read, the more you come to love him, and both he and Elizabeth the snake won my unconditional love.

The romance was beautiful; I loved everything about it, and honestly, I can’t say a single bad thing about this story. The entire series from Book One all the way to this one has become my favorite, and I’m truly sad that this is the last book, but it also ended on a high note.

What a way to end this series!! 🥹💕 I just *knew* there had to be something going on between Milo and Rupert. I had my suspicions that Milo had a crush with the way they were constantly casually fighting and basically at war with each other. 😂 But what started as dislike turned into such a sweet, quirky romance, and it all started with helping move some boxes… and maybe some ice cream. 🍦😂

The whole ice cream situation had me laughing because Rupert owned a candy shop but didn't have a freezer to store it in. It was awkwardly cute, and honestly, that perfectly describes Milo and Rupert's relationship.

I loved how they were complete opposites while also being so similar. They were both quirky, chaotic, and completely comfortable with their own unique styles. Milo had to learn that sometimes he actually needed to *say* what he was thinking because, unfortunately, no one else could hear his inner monologue. 😂 He also had to work on being a little less forgetful. Rupert, on the other hand, finally met someone who said exactly what he was thinking and was direct enough that Rupert didn't have the chance to get completely consumed by his anxiety and uncertainty. That is what made these two fit together so perfectly. 🥹

And we can't forget Miss Elizabeth Bennet—aka Lizzie—Rupert's pet snake! 🐍 She was absolutely adorable, and I loved that Milo wanted to crochet her a little bonnet. 🥹😂 Lizzie was also a sneaky little thing, hiding and having everyone worried while they searched for her. Milo telling her, "Bad Lizzie," for scaring Rupert had me cracking up.

But the most surprising thing about this book? **THE SPICE.** 🥵🔥 I did *not* know Rupert had it in him to be a soft dom! The dirty talk had me blushing, and I was absolutely eating it up. These two had some seriously fun spicy scenes, and let's just say… the ice cream scene was by far one of my favorites. 🍦👀 I have read books with ice cream before, but this one definitely takes the cake.

I also loved how everything came together at the end, with everyone gathering for dinner before Darcy and Owen took off. The found family aspect throughout this entire series has been one of my favorite parts. I loved seeing all of the characters and side characters come together and how perfectly they all blended into each other's lives.

Overall, this was such a fun, sweet, chaotic, spicy, and absolutely perfect way to end the series! 💕🐍🍦✨

Milo and Rupert were the perfect couple to end this series. Like, seriously, it had to be them. We needed Milo's chaos to make us forget that we're not gonna be back in Heather's Bay, we're not coming back to Lick it!. I feel super emotional right now.

I loved seeing Alfie, Jonathan, Owen and Darcy again. I loved Norman and all his stories about him and Sidney. I loved seeing everyone love and be loved, and now it was my baby Milo's turn and Rupert's.

We get to first meet Rupert in book one, and in the first two book we keep hearing of his feud with Milo. It is fun for us, but so entertainingly annoying for them and Darcy who's blood pressure rose quite a few times because of them. Jokes aside tho, I think we can all agree that there was tension between these two, and lust. They were lusting after each other hardcore. Mmmhmmm.

I loved how their story was not mega dramatic, they naturally fell into this situationship/relationship without even realizing and all because of the sweetest girl in the universe, miss Elizabeth Bennett. Jezus how I love her.

The ADHD rep was very well written, and the rejection sensitivity was a new thing for me to read about but I am glad I did. Charlie really did a great job making these two things part of these characters life without forcing it, without making you feel like these were things thrown in there just to be inclusive or whatnot. No, it was to educate, to bring awareness in a way, to show us another set of challenges when falling in love? I feel like I'm not expressing myself correctly, but I hope you get the point.

Now it is over, and looking back to this summer I am so glad I read this series. It was one of my fav things I've read during this season, and I know I will make it a habit to read then every summer from now on. They are fun book with great characters, funny banter, sweet love stories, and hawt like a summer day during a heatwave.

Please read this series, you will love all of them. All of them. Oh, and they have audiobooks. Check those out as well.

Thank you Charlie, Alfie, Jonathan, Darcy, Owen, Milo and Rupert for making my summer fun. In this crazy world we live in right now, I needed it.

I was very sick when I read this book with the flu, so my memory of it is cold-medicine-haze-induced. I give this book three stars.
The plot feels very much like its predecessors, and there's so much overlap in timelines at points that I felt like I was rereading the prior books. A different POV isn't inherently a bad thing. But Milo and Rupert's story didn't really feel any different than the other two. Darcy and Owen set the bar pretty high, and I enjoyed Licked more than any of the others.

Still present are the unrealistic (from a gay man's perspective) terms of endearment. I know British gay men, and they do not call each other "sweetheart" or "baby" the way it is done here.

I am not a herpetologist, and I'm not generally a fan of snakes. It didn't bother me overmuch that this book had one, but it really failed to draw me in. I just don't care about snakes.

I struggled mightily to remember the epilogue from Licked and couldn't remember it. My overall recommendation is that this is definitely a must-read for a fan of the series, but my life is no better or worse for having read it. The author apparently suffers from both ADHD and rejection disorder and, if my memory is true on that, it's good that she was able to give that a voice. But I can't say that I have a better understanding of it from reading this book.

Lastly, the author needlessly invokes the foreskin debate. Describing characters as uncircumcised is unnecessary and makes those of us who prefer circumcised men to have a frown internally every time it's mentioned. It adds nothing to the scene and can easily be skipped by avoiding mentioning it entirely.

I am grateful that this series is done for me. Theo and Laurie were characters that I had too much of the moment they were introduced, and not reading about Theo ever again will make me quite happy. But, the book deserves three stars for rouding out the series and bringing it to a close.

Milo and Rupert's story was very unexpected! I knew that they were going to have an interesting road ahead of them seeing as how they spent their summer being rivals. I wasn't expecting for their story to be relatively low-angst though, and that was a nice surprise! These two men couldn't be more different personality wise, but they also have a lot of similarities as well. Like both of them having different forms of ADHD, them both loving snakes, and enjoying ice cream, among other things as well. I enjoyed reading this book and seeing all of these characters again.

This was the first time I've read about Rejection Sensitivity in a book, and I have to say a huge thank you to the author for having that representation included. As someone who lives with it, all of those things that Rupert talked about and the thoughts that were spiraling in his head, they were so relatable and realistic too. That's exactly what its like living with that.

“I have rejection sensitivity disorder. It’s part of my ADHD. And it means I get… sometimes I take things intensely personally when they’re not even about me. And any kind of criticism or rejection hurts, like physically hurts my chest. And I know it’s ridiculous, okay? I know it makes me intolerable to be around and completely messed up and weird and⁠—”



The relationship between the two men was great, they sort of fell into a relationship without discussing it, but it felt natural for them somehow. I will say that I think there was a little too much focus on steamy scenes, I would've loved more chapters of these two out on dates, or having more movie nights, or something along those lines, but I did still enjoy reading this story regardless of that.

The ending was brilliant, and was probably my favorite part of the whole book! What a beautiful way to end a story and to make the series and this lovely cast of characters come full circle.

I have been WAITING for Milo and Rupert’s story, and honestly? I think this might be my favorite of the series.

These two just GET each other, and I loved watching their relationship go from annoying each other to "oh shit, I actually really like you."

The ADHD rep was one of my favorite parts. As someone with ADHD, I really appreciated that it wasn’t just treated like a quirky character trait. The wandering thoughts, overthinking, worries, communication struggles. It really dug deep and got in there and especially the Rejection Sensitivity. I love seeing more and more ADHD rep and this just felt SO real.

And Milo being the person who could talk Rupert through those moments without making him feel like he was “too much”? I loved that.

Also, Norman and Elizabeth Bennett the snake are officially my favorite characters. 🐍😂

Can I just say that the fact that Rupert has a pet snake named Elizabeth Bennett is already incredible, but if there was any doubt that she was perfectly named, the whole scene where she the headstrong girl got out of her enclosure and Rupert lost his mind?? As the mama to 2 deaf cats, I know how he feels when you can't find them and you can't just call their name. And Milo scolding Lizzie for scaring Rupert?! It was the sweetest moment and totally a Milo thing to do.

The spice was, as always with Charlie Novak, 🔥🔥🔥and I loved seeing that the ice cream was a much bigger plot of the story other than a place where they worked in this one. 😏 😈 🥵

I also loved getting all the little cameos and seeing where everyone ended up. The ending was PERFECT, and I’m genuinely sad to have to say goodbye to this universe.

Topped by Charlie Novak is the third and final book in the Lick It! series, an MM contemporary romance series set around an artisan ice cream shop on the Yorkshire coast. While each book follows a different couple, I highly recommend reading the series in order because Milo and Rupert's chaotic history makes their story even more satisfying!

I have been waiting for Milo and Rupert's story, and honestly? These two were everything I wanted and more. After spending the previous books watching them antagonize and irritate each other, getting to see that petty feud turn into something softer, sweeter, and ridiculously adorable was such a treat.

Milo is chaotic, funny, and completely incapable of hiding his fascination with Rupert—even if his original way of showing it was basically behaving like a schoolboy teasing his crush.Rupert, on the other hand, is prickly, sensitive, blunt, and incredibly easy to love. Watching their relationship grow from awkward neighbours to friends, lovers, and eventually two people realizing they're basically already dating had me smiling the entire time.

What I loved most was how perfectly they understood each other. Their neurodivergence, insecurities, and fear of rejection added emotional depth without taking away from the cozy, low-angst feeling of the story. Milo's patience and reassurance with Rupert genuinely melted my heart, while Rupert slowly allowing himself to believe that he could be loved exactly as he is was beautiful to read.

And can we talk about the chemistry? Because WOW. Sweet, funny, emotional... and definitely spicy.Their banter, connection, and the whole “wait... are we actually dating?” energy were absolutely adorable.

Plus, seeing familiar characters again, the lovable Heather Bay community, and getting such a satisfying ending made this the perfect finale to the series.

Milo and Rupert's been at odds ever since Milo and his friends opened an ice cream shop next door to Rupert. As the animosity dwindled down, it seemed that they have more things in common than they thought.

The last book in the series omg. The first book made me love Charlie Novak's work. What a ride it was!

Ever since I read the first book (which I also adored!), I have been intrigued by Milo. He was chaotic, he's sassy and says what's on his mind so I was looking forward to his story. When he started playing pranks or causing chaos on the next-door neighbor Rupert, I instantly clocked in on them. I just knew it's gonna be them together.

This book followed book 2, and though we didn't see their history much tackled here but we did see it in the sidelines in book 1 and 2. So that's fine? I wished we did see their first impressions with each other or something. Like what made them so rivals.

I did love following Milo though, and we get to know more about Rupert. Both characters are likeable enough and they were both adults about everything. They communicate, Rupert shared his diagnosis and how he got RSD and how Milo just kept rolling with it. They both put the work and effort into their relationship.

The book spans for weeks or months and I love to see how their relationship progressed. How they both started as rivals then tentative friends, then to lovers and how they both have this inner turmoil and thoughts about each other, and how their relationship made them both better.

I love to see snippets of previous characters, especially Jonathan and Alfie! Love the epilogue too.

Bonus, we have Elizabeth Bennet as a python, hello!

My heart just cannot cope with how beautiful the Lick It! series has been. I've loved every one of these 3 books but I think Milo and Rupert might just be my favourite couple. The rivalry that has existed between the sweet shop owner (Rupert) and ice cream shop co-owner (Milo) over the summer season melts away in Topped, with them finding a tentative friendship which blossoms into more.

This series is so sensitive to neurodiverse characters with each of the three main Lick It! men finding their perfect equal. Milo represents the everyday coping strategies of someone who is ND without a diagnosis and Rupert highlights living with ADHD and rejection sensitivity. Sometimes Milo's bluntness works to their advantage as he is able to communicate his thoughts clearly for Rupert to understand without being consumed with negativity. It does also work the other way for them, as sometimes Milo's thoughts don't make it out of his mouth as he thinks he has already shared important information. His brain sometimes works quicker than his communications skills.

But in each other they find a gorgeous balance. There is an equality to the give and take and they are both vers so this translate to their super steamy and respectful physical communication. I just adored everything about how these couples find their HEA through the challenges of negotiating their own sensitivies and insecurities. Milo and Rupert are just such a good match as they bond over Rupert's pet snake and their love of ice cream.

If you are looking for a fun and gorgeously steamy MM romance, I cannot recommend Milo and Rupert in Topped more highly.

I knew I was going to love Milo and Rupert from those little sneak peeks from Dripped. They were so adorable. I really liked the representation in this one. I have two siblings with ADHD, and it was nice to see them represented so nicely. I also liked the fact that Milo didn't have an actual diagnosis, cause some neurodivergent people do not have a diagnosis at all, and it's fine.

Milo and Rupert communicated better than most book couples I know, despite their brain messing with them most of the time. I liked that they pushed past it to talk everything out. It was really nice to see them being vulnerable and open with each other. They were so chaotic too, especially Milo. I loved it.

I really liked their relationship dynamics, and I related to them a lot of times. And the discussion about degradation during sex, I really liked that one, because I can't count the number of times book couples just jump into degradation with no discussion whatsoever; it always surprises me. I really liked that nice addition.

And Miss Elizabeth was adorable and sassy. Like, why didn't she want to come out of that little space 😂? I loved her.

I really liked Norman too. He was an absolute diva, an honest one too. I really wanted to meet Sidney too. What was he like, to be putting up with Norman? And as usual, the amazing friendships came to play again. I really like the bond among Darcy, Alfie, and Milo. And now they have moved from 3 to 6. One could only wish for a friend group like this.

I fear I liked this one more than Topped. I loved Milo and Rupert's story. If you like small-town romance with a lot of sweet moments, then this book is for you. This was an ARC Read.

I have loved this series and the men we have come to know. Now, it's Milo's turn and those who have read the series know that no one else but Rupert will do. They may have been business neighbours and *enemies* but they both quickly discover that there's actually nothing that they don't like about each other. In fact, there is a lot more there than they could have expected.
Milo is exactly as I thought he would be - chaos personified, proven by completely shaving his head and moustache in the first couple of pages. Rupert is adorable and I completely felt for him. Though I don't feel things to the extremes that he does, I can absolutely empathise. But when you have a Milo who wants to get to know you and have smexy times, well, who could say no to that sunshine. Especially as the wet autumnal weather comes to Heather Bay. They have great chemistry right from the start, and once they get past the tiny business of antagonising each other through the summer, it's amazing just how differently they see each other.
I absolutely love the neurodiversity rep that Charlie has written here. Both Milo and Rupert are on a spectrum but it seems like vastly different ends. Rupert internalises and feels things so intensely, and whilst Milo definitely feels things, they more slide off of his back as his focus flits from one thing to another, and he decided not letting anyone new get close means he can't get hurt. Enter Rupert and Miss Elizabeth Bennett.
The whole cast of characters from this series are present throughout, though I like that Milo wants to keep Rupert to himself. Kind of for selfish reasons but mostly to protect Rupert.
It's another amazing series from Charlie Novak and I hope it's not the last time that we are going to be in Heather Bay.

What a lovely wrap-up to this sweet, cozy series.

I was completely surprised by how different Rupert and Milo’s dynamic felt compared with what I expected after their interactions in the earlier books.

But that surprise ended up being one of my favorite things about the story. I really liked how Charlie Novak gave both neurodivergent characters totally distinct personalities, needs, and coping styles.

Milo’s chaotic, all-in energy is such a fun contrast to Rupert’s guarded anxiety, and that push and pull gives their romance a lot of depth. Their chemistry is top notch, but what makes it work for me was how tender and comfortable they eventually become with each other too.

I loved how naturally their relationship shifted from a convenient hookup into something steadier and very much couple shaped. Also, the snake co-parenting? Adorable.

Milo refusing to seek or accept advice after spending the previous books meddling in everyone else’s love life was hilarious. I also loved seeing the friend group widen now that the partners are fully part of the chaos too. The supportive, nosy found-family vibes are still one of the series’ biggest strengths.

Overall, I had such a good time with this low-angst, rom-com-style story. It’s fun, light, cozy, the kind of book and series you pick up when you want a relaxed, happy reading time. An amazing farewell to Alfie, Darcy, Milo and all their delicious ice cream. Lick It totally delivered.

Topped by Charlie Novak is the brilliant third book in the Lick it! series. After spending a summer antagonizing Rupert—the gorgeous, sweet shop owner next door—Milo is ready to make amends, even if Rupert thinks he's a prick. As a casual hangout blossoms into friendship, Milo realizes there is much more to the bright, beautiful, and prickly man next door, sparking a tender journey to show Rupert he is entirely worthy of love.

It's no secrets that I have been a little obsessed with this series lately and I was eagerly awaiting this book. And I kind of dropped all of my reading plans to read this one as soon as possible, because I just needed it in my life very badly. And I am imensely glad I did cause god. damn. was this book a massive hit for me.

I just loved the interactions between these two, so so much. Rupert has ADHD and he is used to not letting anyone get close to him and to just show them an idealized version of himself because past imperiences taught him that people would reject him if he showed them who he really is. And Milo is a human goofball that’s always that so nice and attentive to any context clues to make sure that Rupert always felt good and comfortable in any situation. These two were just so well suited and I adored seing them together.

The dynamic between Rupert and Milo was just the best. I think I spent the entire time I was reading being so invested in these two I was giggling out loud and making heart eyes at my kindle.

I absolutely loved the whole vibe of this story that was very much: oh we click super well as friends we should add sex to the mix and both of them kept wanting so much more and fantacizing about the rest of their lives together without realizing that they were actually dating and falling in love. All of it was just so much fun to read, I could not get enough.

This was such a delightful novel. I was immendiately charmed from page 1 and the feeling stayed the whole way through. I just had such a good time reading this book.
