Carolina Magic Trilogy #3

Seas the Reckoning: An Urban Fantasy Novel

Even when the water's surface seems calm, the current is ready to rip you away

Leena and her fellow supernaturals have been enjoying a well-deserved break at the beach. Her siren song may still be cursed, and her witchy best friend may still have a looming debt, but at least there haven’t been any more murders.
Her vacation comes to a screeching halt when Grammy Pearl informs her it’s time to face the consequences of her complicated magical lineage.

She won’t be the only one with some forced family time. Her closest pal Starla has to follow through on an ill-conceived deal with her estranged warlock father, and the whole crew is along for the ride.

A weekend trip to England becomes an investigation into magical conspiracy, murderous intent, and more than a few dangerous secrets. Leena and her friends will find themselves in all sorts of mischief—cutting deals with questionable vampires, aligning with the gods, and even accepting a fake fiancé—to get the answers they need.

Seas the Reckoning is the final book in the Carolina Magic series. An action-packed urban fantasy for readers of found family, fated mates, and magical twists.

My wonderfully OCD Leena is back with a bang! As the title suggests, a reckoning is imminent. Except, be prepared for a reckoning you didn't anticipate, a reckoning that will literally leave your jaw hanging...this book will unhinge the tightest of jaws! This book will leave you grinning in delight.

Everything seems to centre around Grammy Pearl, indirectly. She doesn't divulge much though, she can't, the consequences could detail everything. She is a seer who's visions are the catalyst for Leena and Starla travelling to England. Although they knew it was inevitable, a favour granted by Starla's dad, necessitated repayment. Grammy gave the final push, by promising they would get answers they needed. With the provisor of Starla not behaving, well, like Starla. She needs to be the picture of decorum and restraint, to gain closure with her father, Leena to discover more of her heritage and to reveal the kingpin behind the atrocious experiments. Which she was, mostly.... What Leena, needs quite urgently, is to find something, anything to break a curse she is now the recipient of. What she does find, shatters her world into a million pieces.

I loved that this book was predominantly Leena and Starla's and the author gave them all the "space" they needed to come to an outstanding conclusion, to grow, to confront their fears and uncertainties, and to evolve. I was cheering Starla on when she finally confronted her sorry excuse of a father, which Leena got spot on when she said, "I’d call him a snake, but that would be an insult to the adorable little danger noodles". Leena has grown exponentially from spiralling out of control at the drop of a pin, to her acknowledgement of her condition. Besides Jackal being her grounding force, her logic "over-ruling" it was done superbly! Very realistically penned, tackling OCD with the respect and acknowledgement it deserves, realistically spun that allowed her to grow into a really fierce MC. And my goodness did I adore the interactions between her and Jackal! I really adored seeing this fierce, deadly predator all gagga eyed and a gentle softy, so understanding, supportive and protective of Leena, with the understanding of a saint, just fills me with warmth.

But all the characters are super cool. Whenever I read a Silas Reames book, I'm wanting more of their stories. Just as with the Never series, this author's supporting cast is splendid. Some really resonate and leave me wanting more of them, like the Ender, like Feral, like Arloc, like Thomas and a whole host more. Is it any wonder I need more of these characters? I got a real thrill at the cameo appearance of Never and Danger, chaos personified, both of them! And
I loved the reappearance of Feral, a character who evoked so much emotion in me in the Never books, played a vital role in this one. I can't wait for him to get his story, and, hopefully, his HEA. He so deserves it. The epilogue, once again, is from Grammy's POV, one of my favourite characters, and hell, Silas throws in a curve ball of note! Now I'm dying to find out how that will pan out...all sorts of theories are milling around my head...

Although this was a "quieter" book compared to the others, a lot of emphasis was on self growth, which the author gave me in abundance! There's a slice of romance too. This series focused predominantly on Leena's and Jackal's relationship, but the emerging side romances are equally heartwarming. And beautiful. And surprising, considering the mix of witch, gargoyle, wolf shifter, human. The intrigue was a steady build up, starting from book 1, to the discovery of mindboggling revelations, to the magnificent HEA at the end of this book. I'm sad to see them go but Silas ended spectacularly with a hint of more to come... I'm stoked for more! This is a fabulous world, with fabulous characters, fabulous, fated mates and beautiful romance, and an even more awesome found family vibe.

In order to find out who Leon was working for and find the answer to breaking Leena's curse, Leena must travel to England with Starla, Jackal, Exos and Pickles head across the pond to deal with Starla's father. Starla and Leena must navigate the treacherous world of magical elites as they have suitors pushed on them while they investigate Ivyrn Works and Councilman Taylor. But time is starting to run out when both Leena and Starla agree to become engaged at the party and Starla's father wants them wed before they leave.
Leena is still a big ball of anxiety, but she is learning to manage it. She even has moments where she is learning to fly by the seat of her pants. Starla does an amazing job of keeping her unique and appropriate insults to herself in this book, although I do love reading those! Those 2 really get out of their comfort zone at the elite gathering. We also see the return of some of the characters from Never's series, including one of the Gods. And of course, there is Pickles, the fire-breathing Bassett hound who gets in on the action at the party as well.
This is another fast-paced adventure that has everyone in a whirlwind. Once they begin investigating, it's a race to try to figure out who was behind Leon's schemes and also try to figure a way out of their sudden betrothal. You never know who to trust or what their motives are. There are so many possible suspects and none of them seem like good people. There were not many big surprises in this book since you already know the main villain, but there were still little surprises along the way! This was the end of this series and while I am sad this story has come to its end, I am glad they get their HEA and excited for the next series to come out!

I loved this series so much, I’m sad that it’s the last book, but it was well worth the read! After the events of the last book, the time has come for Starla to pay her debt and visit her estranged father. Grammy Pearl’s visions indicate that this trip will benefit both Starla and Leena, so the whole gang is off to England for a exciting visit with Daddy dearest.

As I said earlier, I truly loved this book! I don’t want to give anything away, so I’ll say that getting there was a rough ride, but it was great that both Leena and Starla were able to get closure and I love where they are at the end of the book! I love Leena and Jackyl together, they make such a cute couple, as do Starla and Exos. This has been a really fun series and while it’s always a little sad when a beloved series ends, I’m satisfied with the conclusion. I also loved the epilogue which was a great teaser for the next series, which I am now eagerly awaiting!

How are we at the finale of this series already?! If you havent begun this one yet then I heartily recommend that you sneak back to the prequel and begin there so you dont miss any of the action and character development of which there is PLENTY! This book sees us meeting shifter family in London, some crazy Sirens in tropical climes and our friendly resident daddy warlock who just wants to rain on everyones parade. We meet a host of new characters in this book some of which are hilariously revolting and others just a wee bit mysterious like a certain vampire I shall not name. I enjoyed this book, it felt longer than it actually was because so much happens and its jam packed with locations and reveals. I am eagerly awaiting the new series from Silas Reames which I believe has already been teased so hopefully there wont be long to wait!

I will admit that usually when a series comes to an end, I can be a bit salty about it and not be fully satisfied. This is a series ender, and I am completely satisfied! I loved Leena, Starla, and all the other characters, and I loved how they help each other with no questions asked. Also seeing characters from another series makes me very happy. I am overjoyed to meet the next series’ characters, and I can’t wait to read about them. I loved how all the threads tied together, the fun getting to the end, and the non-stop action in this installment. Fans of this series will be satisfied and pleased with this. Highly recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.

So glad this arrived for me to ARC while recovering from arm surgery, a nice little escape with Leena, Starla & co was exactly what the Dr ordered!

So following on from the insanity of Seas the Fury.....
The Carolina Magic team are still focused on the Ivyrn works/Leon Stone associates & backers but Starla has to go & play nice at a function in England with Councilman Taylor (aka her Father) to pay him back for his "assist" with the witch council & the Goldsboro coven & Grammy says that it will help with Leenas curse too & everything is linked.
So Leena, Jackal, Starla, Exos & Pickles all jet off to good old England & in true Silas Reames style chaos ensues.... Honestly loved reading this series! Its full of action, adventure, humour, banter, mystery, myths, legends & a whole lot of intrusive thoughts!! These characters are Abso-ducking-lutely brilliant & the British-isms are amazing! Yes, add "absolute" to any item & it becomes an insult x

10/10 Massively recommend!!!
Am sad this series is finished but you Never know what the Neververse has in store for us next.

Stellar end to Leena’s story! I cannot express how much I loved that this new series, set in the same world as the previous Shifter Vengeance series, manages to stand on its own with a strong protagonist and new band of found family characters. Leena is strong and smart and courageous, learning to cope with OCD so that she can still maintain strong relationships and pursue the things she wants in life. The plot lines have been intriguing and built to a great larger story arc in this final book (as well as teasing the start of a new related series!). This addition to the Carolina Magic series was heartfelt and fun and fast paced and wrapped things up in a way that felt authentic.

Fabulous

This book gives us a great end to the stories of Carolina Magic. I have enjoyed each of the books and have appreciated the reappearance of favorite characters from Never's series. I highly recommend this book and indeed the whole series.

I enjoyed this last installment of the series, but the pacing was a bit slow, and I had a difficult time getting engaged until after the halfway point. Regardless, there’s a nice opening for a new (connected) series that I’ll definitely read.

good conclusion, with temptation dropped in

Nothing is as painful or evil as family turning on themselves. The love of friends is all that can see you through that pain.
Beautifully written and great relationships.

Fantastic finish to an amazing series. All loose ends were tied up, and the characters had a wild ride to the end. Such a great story.
