This was a roller roaster of emotions, and I was here for it.
While this is a standalone, but I highly recommend reading Ricochet Ridge series first so you understand why Logan is so incredibly heartbroken. If you like Jillian, go back and start with Bring the Heat series, as these books are slightly interconnected.
Chase follows a path he didn’t choose and I think Logan was throw into his universe for this purpose.
Chase is persistent, caring, thoughtful, and kind. Logan needed those traits from a partner. While I love Stone and Hanlon, Stone broke Logan into pieces and getting off that mountain and away from them was his saving grace.
Can’t wait to read more from this series.

One of the most easy reads I've had in a while, with the cutest HEA.
I finished it in 3.5 hours?
To preface, I have not read the book they were mentioned in before - this is my first experience with this author and these characters.
🚁 Logan is a helicopter pilot whom isn't over the man he thought was the love of his life, and is bored with the monotony of flying a helicopter for a hospital. He's used to the extreme, and (thankfully) flying for his hospital is not.
🥼 Chase is a new resident surgical intern (i'll find the exact name, promise!) whose been with his girlfriend for seven years though somehow she ended up in florida when he moved to boston, and his field of medicine chosen by his very successful parents.
They had met very briefly previously (I believe in another book of hers), so when they bump into each other at the hospital Chase is desperate for a friend that isn't one of his fellow interns, and one he already knows or at least is a little familiar with? It had to have been fate.
They meet for drinks to catch up and the rest is history, or well, the plot of the book.
They fall in love waaay before realizing (imo).
They fit together, in each other's lives seamlessly.
However, they both do the running away thing a little bit until they force the other to talk it out.
Thankfully, those times are usually fast-forwarded, so there wasn't a bunch of pining or whining. Of course there was some - pining, never whining - Chase does have a girlfriend for a lot of the book (though not present on page mostly).
The spice doesn't come until after 60%, but it fits the story.
It's not overly descriptive or long, but it doesn't have to be.
I wouldn't say no to it though, they're hot together. 🤭
The helicopter speak was a little boring, but that's just cause I have no personal interest in it.
HOWEVER, I always find it impressive when authors either take the time to research well enough to include detailed explanations of "random" things (like helicopter piloting, in emergencies and bad weather) or they just have a special interest so they want to include it in their story because of that.
So, totally okay with me that it's there - doesn't impact my enjoyment of the book at all.
Genuinely the HEA is so precious.
The next book is hinted at with the mention of Dr. Declan Porter in the epilogue (it is confirmed him, as well).
I do hope we get appearances from both Chase and Logan throughout the series - it would only make sense since they both work for the hospital.
I genuinely loved them so much... wouldn't mind a second book with them.. wedding maybe?? 😘

Ahhhh I loved this book! Chase is a surgical resident, & Logan is a Life Flight helicopter pilot at the same hospital. They had previously met 4 years prior back in Ricochet Ridge, & meet again in the present in Boston where they become friends.
Logan just understood Chase so well (& vice versa), they make perfect sense together. He was so supportive of Chase figuring himself out which he never really had that before. His parents are mainly focused on him being this crazy great trauma surgeon & his current long distance girlfriend Kendra honestly didn’t seem like she cared about him all that much either 😭. Logan was great at giving advice while he is questioning his sexuality, and is always there for him, in the little ways too.
And Chase is so unapologetically himself & I love it! I was dying at all of their little moments & the tension leading up to them getting together. There was some humor in here mixed along with their sweet & swoony moments too.
I really liked how evident Logan’s passion for flying was, and how all the characters noticed it too. And the medical situations were great adrenaline inducers! Logan & his flight nurse during that crazy storm, & of course the situation in Aruba. Both of those scenes were so intense & really had me on the edge of my seat sweating a lil bit 🤣
Also, Dr. Porter (AKA Declan) is scary & ballsy & I kinda love him. I’ll be reading his book for sure, & the sneak peek we got to see of the next book was entertaining 👀 I’m excited to see how this relationship develops!

Give me an oblivious straight MMC who casually wants to platonically cuddle with his friend and I will apparently suspend all disbelief and follow him anywhere.
As with every story from Jillian D. Wray, this was such an easy book to fall into. The hospital setting was genuinely so interesting, and Logan’s particular job added another layer of intrigue that kept me invested. I love when a workplace actually feels like part of the story instead of being there purely for aesthetic reasons.
There were multiple moments where I genuinely laughed out loud, but it also had me on the edge of my seat a couple of times. The balance between fun and tension worked really well for me.
BUT. I do have some thoughts.
The biggest thing that bothered me was the portrayal of the woman in this story. A lot of the blame for what went wrong seemed to land on her and her behaviour, while I felt like one of the MMCs needed to look in the mirror and take a little more responsibility for his own choices. I’m a little tired of the “woman = evil mastermind behind the cheating situation” narrative, especially when there are multiple adults involved who made their own decisions. I would genuinely love to see more stories where women aren't automatically made into the main villain in these situations.
There were also a few plot points that felt a little too conveniently placed, or information that was conveniently kept hidden, to let the story move forward without much consequence. Those moments pulled me out of the story a couple of times because I could see the plot machinery working behind the scenes.
Overall, this was another really enjoyable read from Jillian. It had the humor, tension, and character moments that kept me invested, and despite the few things that didn't quite work for me, I still found myself flying through the story. There’s something very comforting about knowing I can pick up one of Jillian’s books and settle into an easy, entertaining read—and apparently I will never say no to oblivious men accidentally being adorable.

The moment I finished Asystole I pre-ordered the second book in the Doctors of Boston Memorial series AND bought all four of the Ricochet Ridge books. So yeah... Asystole hit the spot and I want more from Jillian Wray's world.
Chase and Logan are adorable muscle-y muffins - good men who care about their patients and their impact on the world but who've had their lights dimmed along the way: Chase to a relationship and a future that was decided by his successful and overbearing parents; Logan to a lost love that he cannot move on from. I was invested in their stories immediately.
Asystole is a low-angst, slow-burn, acquaintances-to-friends-to-lovers story that I found satisfying every step of the way. Both character's choices make sense for their lives, their dialog and banter is believable and delightful, and if you have a competence kink, both of these men are smart, dedicated, and great at what they do (or are meant to do - IYKYK).
As the content warnings state, there is some cheating (not between Chase and Logan) but it's an important part of their journey and growth, and it makes sense for their story.
Chase is maximum golden retriever energy when he feels safe with someone - big smiles, loud laughs, zero personal boundaries (he can and will say anything), endless flirts, and lots of physical affection. Logan is more reserved, more wounded, but still warm and caring once he de-armors a bit. I especially love Logan's protective streak that comes out when Chase takes him climbing and admits one of the instructors makes him uncomfortable.
I laughed many times at Chase's antics, his unbridled affection for his best friend Hanlon (from the Ricochet Ridge series), and his silly text messages. My heart swelled with how tender he is with Logan's feelings. I kicked my feet when Logan put on his flight suit to tease Chase. And when they FINALLY begin to lean into their feelings? I wanted to shout my joy from the rooftop.
The spice is around a 2 or 2.5 out of 5. It's just right for who these men are and the dynamic they have (and what we do get is real tasty).
Also, HUGE shoutout to Hanny's mom for her absolutely soul-feeding speech to Chase's mom. MORE QUEER FOLKS NEED PARENTS LIKE THAT.
Bottom line: Asystole is intensely binge-worthy. I started it last night, slept for a few hours and found myself awake at 4am because I couldn't stop thinking about them. Finished the book as I ate my breakfast and felt so sad when it was over.
Treat yourself to their story. You will be well fed by their joy.

I knew going in that I wanted to savor this book but I didn’t even make it last a full day! It was exactly what I knew it would be- amazing! I have been eagerly awaiting Logan’s story since meeting him in Avalanche. I felt so bad for him then and how heartbroken he must have been seeing Stone with someone else. And starting this one, those feelings hadn’t changed. Logan is still so in love with and obsessed with Stone that it was even more heart breaking. You could feel the anguish every time he thought about him or was reminded of him in some way. When he unexpectedly runs, literally, into Chase (Stone’s fiancée’s bestie) in the hospital they both work at, it only reminds him of what/who he doesn’t have. It definitely had me crying multiple times.
Even though I was so sad for Logan during the first half of this book, I was falling in love with Chase. Chase is the quintessential golden retriever, a trauma surgeon intern, and straight with a long distance girlfriend. He quickly pulled Logan into his orbit and became fast friends. When they become roommates and they start getting closer, I was so happy to see Logan stop thinking about Stone all the time. Of course it wasn’t smooth sailing with so many other obstacles in their way, mostly Chase thinking he was straight and having a girlfriend. I loved how openly they communicated and shared their feelings even when it was hard. I loved how easily Chase accepted himself once he processed and how openly he loved Logan! It was hot and explosive but still sweet and caring.
I was glad I read Avalanche prior to this one because there were definitely times I was annoyed with Stone and Hanlon in the first half. They weren’t rubbing Logan’s face in their relationship on purpose but Stone especially, should’ve known some things they did would hurt Logan. The wedding invitation? There was no need for them to invite Logan, seemed almost cruel even if that wasn’t the intention.
Also… what the heck are the chances of Chase’s surprise going so wrong?? That guy sure was lucky! Won’t say more and spoil it but talk about timing lol!

I really enjoyed Logan and Chase’s story! Their dynamic was so much fun, especially watching their friendship slowly turn into something more. The chemistry and banter between them were so good, and Chase was definitely giving golden retriever energy.
I also really liked watching Chase figure out what he actually wanted and start taking charge of his own life. The bi-awakening storyline felt really natural, and I thought the way Logan supported Chase throughout everything was really sweet. There were definitely some emotional moments that got me in my feels, too.
I did have a few things that kept this from being a full 4 stars for me, but overall I really enjoyed their story.

Ever since I discovered Jillian by reading her Ricochet Ridge series, I’ve been hooked with her writing. I’ve been waiting for this book and it definitely did not disappoint me at all and now, I’m going to sit here patient in and wait for book two in this amazing series.
Chase and Logan had my heart from beginning to end. I had always wondered if Logan was to recover what happened in Hanlon and Stone’s book. I felt like Chase and him meeting was what they both needed.
First off, I couldn’t stand the girlfriend in this book. She was so entitled and just didn’t understand him becoming a doctor he wouldn’t have time for her. I’m sorry but the way that they broke up, she deserved that. Chase deserved better than her. Also, her showing up and being at a meeting in the living room was over the top for her. When Logan was slamming cabinets and such, I laughed.
I just loved how Logan and Chase become friends and are there for one another, especially Logan for Chase. They needed each other more than ever. The first kiss, though had to be my favorite, and then they avoided each other like the plague.
And Marcy. The cutest little girl that made Chase realized he didn’t want to work in the OR but with children. The chapter where she got to leave the hospital had me in my feels. It was such a cute moment.
When Chase stood up to his parents finally, I was here for it. Logan gave him the confidence that he needed that he didn’t know he needed.
What I loved was how natural these two fell for one another. When Chase moved in with Logan was perfect because first, Jackson, was just disgusting for his taste and kind tbh, and two, this made their relationship develop even more. I loved how Logan always brought him food because he knew he just didn’t have time to do it himself.
The emotions were perfect. I was either waiting for something big to happen or I was all about what was going to make my heart melt. I’m not much of the cheating trope but this one was done so well. And when the spice happened, I just loved how right they were when they hooked up.
I cannot wait for the next book. What I loved was of the helicopter and hospital talk because it shows that she did her research.

Ever since I discovered Jillian by reading her Ricochet Ridge series, I’ve been hooked with her writing. I’ve been waiting for this book and it definitely did not disappoint me at all and now, I’m going to sit here patient in and wait for book two in this amazing series.

Read it in one sitting!! Absolutely loved Chase and Logan!!
Logan is coming off his heartbreak over stone 4 years later and he’s still feeling it and he keeps running into Chase who is Hanlons best friend who’s stones fisncee! So he’s very reluctant to be friends with him because he reminds him of stone and his precious life! But Chase is a giant golden retriever and he wants to be Logan’s friend and it turns out they both need it! I liked their friendship so much! The flirting the teasing! It’s what they both needed!! Chases bi awakening to Logan whewwwww the kiss at new years! Logan knew exactly how to take care of Chase they both were what the other needed in the moment! The spicy the emotional connections the bro cuddles!!! I’m so so happy that Chase kicked his ex to the curb! I was so happy when Chase stood up for himself with his parents so he could be in the residency he wanted for himself!! I loved that Declan stood up for Logan so he could get the job back that he wanted on his terms!
I am happy we get to see Hanlon and Stone again and so so happy for Logan to get over his resolved issues with his feelings for stone! Chase was so happy when Logan realized he didn’t have anymore feelings for stone!
I absolutely can’t wait to continue this series! The little snippet of book 2 looks so damn good!!!

This book was a fast read I could. not. put. down. I just loved Chase and Logan! Chase is such a golden retriever - I loved every bit of him. :) Loved how comfortable he was with just being himself around Logan. Loved that Logan gave him a safe space where he could act without trying to fill anyone's expectations for once. The cuddles scenes were the best! The banter between these two was amazing - I found myself highlighting so much! This is a nice slowwwww burn as these two slowly become friends, then roommates, then more. I really enjoyed watching Logan work through his heartbreak and find what he was missing in Chase and get over Stone. I just absolutely enjoyed watching these two fall for each other AND figure out their own life stuff at the same time.
I learned a crap ton about flying helicopters and trauma medicine also. I don't think I've read a Jillian book where I didn't learn something, they are always so well-researched. I can't wait for more of the Doctors of Boston Memorial!

I was so excited for Logan and Chase’s story, and it ended up being even better than I was hoping for.
Logan’s heartbreak over Stone was such a pivotal part of this story. It affected every aspect of his life and shaped who he had became. Chase,was constantly trying to please everyone around him while dismissing his own wants and needs.
The development of their friendship was beautifully written. Their connection brought out the best in each other, and I loved how much they genuinely wanted the other to be happy. Even though there was cheating involved, the development of their friendship to relationship felt natural.
The growth they both experienced throughout the story, both individually and as a couple, was beautiful to read. I absolutely adored Logan and Chase, and I’m excited for the next book in the series!

After reading the entire Ricochet Ridge series, I was SO excited to finally get Chase and Logan’s story! And while this was definitely a cute and enjoyable read, I think there was just something missing for me that kept it from being a standout read.
I absolutely loved these two MCs. Chase is the sweetest green-flag himbo, and my heart really went out to Logan, who was still pining after Stone even after being rejected. I loved watching their relationship start as a friendship and slowly evolve into something more. There was something really sweet about the way they became each other’s safe place.
I also really enjoyed all of the detail surrounding their careers. Chase is a trauma surgery resident, while Logan is a Life Flight helicopter pilot, and I found both of their jobs genuinely fascinating. I love when an author puts that much thought into the characters’ careers because it made their individual storylines feel more developed and gave the book an interesting layer outside of the romance.
I was especially happy when Chase finally broke things off with Kendra and decided to start living his life for himself instead of trying to live up to his parents’ expectations. And Logan standing up to his boss to help save that woman—even knowing it could cost him his job—was such a great moment for his character. I loved seeing both of them start making choices based on what they wanted rather than what other people expected from them.
I also really enjoyed seeing Stone and Hanlon again! 🥹 And I thought the way everything ultimately tied together at the end was really interesting. Most importantly, I was happy to see Chase and Logan get the HEA they deserved. ❤️
That said, there was just something about the overall story that didn’t completely click for me. Parts of it felt a little rushed and disjointed, and I think I wanted a little more time for certain things to develop—especially between Chase and Logan. I enjoyed their relationship, but I didn't quite feel the same emotional pull that I've had with some of this authors other books.
Overall, this was a cute, easy, enjoyable read with two characters I really liked. It just wasn't one that I think will stick with me for a long time. Still, I’m glad I read it and I’m definitely looking forward to Dr. Porter’s book next!

I am SO excited to talk about Asystole by Jillian D. Wray - this is my first ARC and my first read from the author (thank you to JDW & the Author Agency), and it will not be the last; I loved Asystole from the first chapter and got attached to Logan and Chase immediately. I love the acquaintances-to-friends-to-roommates-to-lovers pipeline, and the leads were delightful. These characters met right when they needed somebody, and they were the perfect fit for each other.
Logan and Chase work really well as a couple - they’re hot (and hot for each other), sure, but they also are both good people with chemistry that’s obvious right from the off, even when Chase thinks he’s straight. I love a bi-awakening, and I love it even more when it’s more goofy bewilderment than drama, which is exactly what we have here. There is some cheating, but not between the main couple and it’s more of a relationship-that-is-mostly-over-anyway if that’s something that bothers you; I don’t love cheating but it didn’t really bother me here. Honestly, Chase’s relationship with his girlfriend in the first half made him feel a little more real - he’s just a softy trying to live the life he thinks he’s supposed to, and Logan is so encouraging and understanding about it. I just love them so much. Also, sidebar? Chase has a competency kink and he nearly gave me one with the way he watches Logan in action. Bless his little heart.
The pacing is great, the story is engaging, and these characters are so incredibly lovable. I enjoyed every second of this novel and recommend that you pick it up the second it releases. 10/10 romance.

i devoured this book up in only 5 or 6 hours... that is how much i loved it!!
i've read a couple books from jillian's backlog (when they came out), but didn't get around to reading the one mentioned in the beginning of this one. that being said, it still was really good as a standalone!
i loved getting to see chase and his golden retriever energy help open logan up more to friendship and later on, love.
logan gets introduced as a guy who is the most heartbroken i've every seen a man. he did what he does best, and runs away from his past and his hurt. enter chase, the most outgoing, loving guy. chase can see the hurt in logan, but doesn't go out of his want to make him uncomfortable with it.
as a reader, you can slowly see the lines wanting to be crossed between the two friends. logan goes from not believing he would ever be able to feel any kind of (loving) emotion again.. and chase is already in a committed relationship with a (horrible) woman, but the amount of love he has in his heart is so great, he gives it to all the people around him. chase makes sure everyone that matters in his life, knows they are greatly appreciated and loved.
i'm so glad chase and logan found their way to each other. AND i love that they could keep their relationship with stone and hanlon, dare i say them being together made the four of them even closer?!
this is suchhhhh a good book and very much bingeworthy!! 💙

It’s been a while since I read a medical book, and since Chase is a surgical resident, I really loved that aspect of the story. It showcased how much Chase is put through physically, emotionally, and mentally just to withstand the long hours of working and being on his feet to be there for his patients. Then, on his days off, he’s studying to keep up with everything that’s going on and retain all that information. I just have to say, medicine is NO joke. To all the people pursuing those degrees and careers, I give you a big round of applause. Those are the jobs that truly matter, and I have immense admiration for the people who dedicate themselves to them. 👏
Anyways, going back to the book, Logan and Chase were such a beautiful couple, and I loved how they got together. Chase was so consistent and persistent about tearing down the walls Logan had built because Logan believed he was still in love with Stone. But ultimately, we find out as readers that Logan was really in love with the idea of Stone, while his real, true love was waiting for him right around the corner.
It was also funny that there was an age gap between the two because, from my perspective, I felt like Chase was actually wiser than Logan, even though Logan was older. 😂 I felt like Chase took things day by day, but at the same time, we got to see him evolve as a person and realize that he only has one life, so it’s time to live it to the fullest. I enjoyed seeing these two go from practically strangers to friends to lovers. The friendship stage was my favourite because we got to see them start developing feelings for each other the more they hung out.
Chase was pretty much running himself thin. It was nice to see Chase show his backbone to everyone and change things in his life to do the things he really wanted to do instead of trying to please others. I loved the scenes where he interacted with the cancer kids, it was so wholesome and solidified how that was his true calling.
I’m very intrigued by Dr. Porter. I’m glad that his story is next because I want to know more about him.

I enjoyed seeing these two go from practically strangers to friends to lovers. The friendship stage was my favourite because we got to see them start developing feelings for each other the more they hung out.

I’m in love with these two! The connection between them happened so organically. Friends at first and then growing to more. While Logan wasn’t expecting for his broken heart to move on he literally bumps into Chase at work and things change. The fact that Logan see’s Chase, how hard he works and how hard he tries to please everyone else but himself 🥺 These two help each other heal and grow together. Jillian has such an amazing talent for giving us the emotions aspect of her characters, showing their flaws along with their strengths and also giving us the romance and spice we crave. I’m excited for what’s to come in this series.

I was so excited for Logan to get his happily ever after. The fact that it is with the walking green flag that is Chase Matthews makes it even better! Avalanche was my favorite book in the Ricochet Ridge series so I loved getting the reminders of that amazing story and what a badass pilot Logan is. I loved the progression of Logan and Chase’s feelings and the tension between the two as they slowly realized they were falling. Chase turning into a fiend was so cute and hot. Logan’s pilot talk did it for me too. Literally read in one sitting.

This was one of the best ARCs I have read in a while. As a nurse anything medical will usually grab my attention pretty quickly but add the MM romance aspect to it and BAM! I'm in! The story between Logan and Chase was written so well. I really didn't want to stop reading it. I really hope there is a part two. I need more of them right now! Logan has really been through it in his life and Chase...well Chase didn't really have any of the same challenges. He came from a different background. That doesn't mean that either of them had it easy. Chase was forced into a path he really didn't want in the end. I am so glad that he took some of Logan's fire and spice to stand up for what he really wanted out of his future. And Logan...sweet Logan. He strikes me as the bad boy with a true softy buried deep within. Oh I wish I could read this all over again for the first time. I loved it so much.

This is a very entertaining and interesting book that keeps you engaged throughout the story. Its very slow burn. Chase is a medical intern who has a girlfriend for most of the book, this is what knocked a star down for me since he still tries to keep his relationship while actively spending more time with Logan and realizing he likes him as more than a friend. Logan is a helicopter pilot who has been in live with his best friend for years, he let his feelings known to Stone but he turns him town so Logan flees to another city where he eventually runs into Chase and reluctantly becomes his friend and eventually lets himself fall for him

AAAAA I devoured this book in under 24 hours. I just couldn't put it down. Oh, how I love Logan and Chase's story. They were both so sweet and fit together so well. We already got to know Logan and Chase in the previous book, Avalanche, so this review may contain some spoilers for that book!
First of all, I LOVE the Ricochet Ridge series, so I've been waiting for Logan and Chase to get their own book. And it was no surprise that I ended up loving this one too!
Logan is a helicopter pilot at Boston Memorial Hospital, but compared to his previous job as a helicopter pilot at a ski resort, he finds his current job a little boring. He left the ski resort because he wanted to move on from a heartbreak, but even after four years, he still hasn't really gotten over it.
And then there's Chase. Oh my God, I loved him. He was so kind, sunshine-y, and cheerful. Chase is also doing his internship at Boston Memorial, which leads to him and Logan crossing paths again after their brief encounter in Avalanche.
They started off as friends, basically catching up after all those years. Chase is very comfortable with physical touch and absolutely loves cuddles, while Logan, who is still trying to move on from Stone, has to adjust to Chase's habits. What started as casual meetups slowly turned into flirting, and eventually, they began to realize how attracted they were to each other.
For Logan, it wasn't necessarily a big revelation. He already knew he was into men. But for Chase, things were a little more complicated as he started questioning himself and what he wanted. One kiss led to another, and suddenly, they both had to reconsider some of the choices they had made in their lives.
One thing I really appreciated was how the story didn't drag things out unnecessarily. After the kiss, Chase became a little awkward around Logan, especially because he was still in a relationship that wasn't going well. But Logan gave him time and never pushed him into making a decision. And when they were ready to move forward, Logan wanted them to start with a clean slate. He encouraged Chase to figure out his existing relationship first and end things properly before they started something together.
I really loved that. It showed how much Logan cared about Chase while still respecting his situation and boundaries.
The relationship between Logan and Chase felt so natural. Nothing about it felt forced or like they suddenly fell in love out of nowhere. Everything just developed so easily, and I loved watching them support each other and the choices they made for their lives.
And honestly, Logan and Chase are both such green flags. But then again, all the men in the Ricochet Ridge series are walking green flags to me, so I shouldn't be surprised. 😂
And oh, it was so good to see Hanlon and Stone's wedding! It felt like such a closure for Logan too, especially after everything he had been carrying and how long he had been trying to move on from Stone. I also loved seeing the four of them finally spending more time together. It was such a lovely thing to see.
I also loved seeing Logan and Chase build their life together. Their relationship was sweet, supportive, and just so easy to root for. Overall, this was such a good read. I loved the chemistry, the relationship development, the lack of unnecessary drama, and most of all, Logan and Chase. 🥹

Together, they find common ground and build a friendship that turns into roommates and eventually to lovers. It's a slow burn, slow build romance filled with witty banter, laugh out loud moments, and so much freaking heart.
Ratings:
Overall: 5/5 Hearts - I frickin' loved this book. I literally sat down and gobbled it down in a day, split between a couple of sittings. I just couldn't put it down!
Spice Quantity: 3/5 Peppers - I'm estimating about 20% of this book is spice. Most of it is regulated to the end.
Spice Quality: 4/5 - The spice is good. I really can't complain. It just missed the oomph that would bump it up to a 5 for me.
Plot: 5/5 -
- Storyline: The storyline is very character driven and deals with the relationships, emotions, and trauma of those characters. There's not necessarily a big bad antagonist.
And I loved that. There didn't need to be anything over the top, because it was the little moments that shined.
The pacing was perfect and never felt boring. The dialogue is hilarious. And each page is addictive.
- Characters: With a character driven storyline, you need to have amazing characters. And Jillian delivered. Both Logan and Chase are dealing with issues of where they want their lives to be and how do they make that happen. It felt realistic and honest, especially for characters in their late twenties/thirties. And I loved watching them grow as people, slowly over each chapter. By the time they got together, they had worked out some of their own issues (with each other's help and separately) and I wrote in my notes: Did the work so THEY would work together.
They're wonderful.
- Writing Style: This is my first book by Jillian and I am SOLD. Her writing is flowy and funny and has the perfect balance of detail and emotion.
