this was so unique and I loved the way it brought in the lore with the gods and the gods had their own feud.
Plot:
We start out meeting Leela who is chosen to be the princes wife but she has other plans and escapes the night before the wedding. She ends up at this place where they force a “flame” onto her. (The flames are the god magical beings of this world.)
the viperess has her own plan in mind now that she has chosen a host. And takes Leela on a quest. They then run into her exfiance who she believed to be dead but is now the captain of the guard and harnesses a flame of his own.
The enemies to lovers did feel alittle weak because it is the gods that are within them that are battle and not really them themselves. I enjoyed the way the relationships were shown to us and how we got to have a dual pov for the MMC as well.
The world building left me confused sometimes. It takes place in a desert but they are also on a ship and then there are mountains. They also were in a pool at one point? Idk it didn’t seem clear to me where they were sometimes. Maybe just a me thing.
The ending!!! Wow when it happened I was like ooo this is great I didn’t even think of that but really makes sense. Now to wait for book 2

an engaging and fast-paced read!
i would say this book is closer to "lovers-to-enemies-to...?", which personally i love more lmao
reading this book, you can genuinely see just how much Ray loves her story, her characters, and the world she built around them.
unironically the only "negative" i have, is i wish there was more of that worldbuilding - but it seems like that may be in the final of this duology, which i'll definitely be reading. Ray made a world that if there were spinoffs within it (Hema novella PLEASE) i would happily read them, as someone who doesn't bother with them typically.
if you enjoy reading about vengeful Gods and the people caught between their games, doomed lovers, and/or fight scenes in your books, you'll definitely enjoy the divine lies we weave
(bonus points if you like attack on titan, you'll DEFINITELY like this book lmao)

If you’re looking for your next romantasy to become completely and utterly obsessed with, The Divine Lies We Weave is exactly what you need!
This book is full of monsters, Gods and humans who refuse to give in the ruthless Gods, this story is absolutely perfect and well written.
The romance aspect was so well done it didn’t overtake the story or the plot but added to the story in the most perfect way.
With twists and turns at every corner, this book is truly captivating and fast paced.
And the ending, you’ll be dying for answers!

This was one hell of a ride which will continue in the next book! The cliffhanger gid the cliffhanger why???
The book took enemies to lovers on a whole different level! I wasn't expecting that! I thought finally they met, that things would turn out the way I thought they will but the turn phew it caught me off guard! It was like it was happening right in front of my eyes! The moments of Rajesh and Leela were my favourite I mean yes they're the main characters but the emotions I felt...wow. But the flames? Omg! I mean mortals are always judged for having emotions then what about the flames??? Oh how I wanted to just scream at them! The pacing of the book was right in all the places, it felt a little fast at the end but after reading it I know why. I was on edge of my seat when I reached the final scene.

There are still so many things at play and I can't wait to find out but unfortunately I will have to...
