This isn't an exact fairy tale telling, more like a story with slight references to Alice in wonderland.
Ali is one of the fmcs, she's got a chronic mental illness. She's also a bit asexual and hasn't been in any relationships. She's a young fashion designer. Her best friend Red, works for a fashion icon. She brokers a meeting between the two.
Taran Topps is the hottest in demand fashion designer. She owns her own company Wonderland designs. She's also a known player.
I don't want to give too much away. The pacing was a bit off for me. There is also some miscommunication. Despite going through the rabbit hole, I had hard time connecting to either character. Certain decisions didn't seem plausible which for me was a detraction. Others might not have this issue & rate it higher.
Tropes and triggers: first time, first love, chronic illness, retelling, bdsm, homophobia, religious trauma, miscommunication.

This book was a pleasant surprise. I appreciate all the Alice in Wonderland references, but I really enjoyed the "have to have her" vibe Taran was giving. Very hot! The other side of that- Taran was also very tender, patient, and understanding of Ali's BPD. I mean, she researched triggers and treatments and how-to's. It was quite sweet, and again... very hot!

Gave up on this book after 40 pages. If the trite, cliche opening of a girl-having-a-nightmare isn't a big enough warning sign, and you can get passed the generally poor writing quality that is repetitive and bland, you get to the part where the older love interest steals the girl's intellectual property and claims it as her own designs and then you get the line "...and she's a virgin? Can she get any more perfect?" REALLY not interested in someone who judges others on their sexual history (or lack thereof).
Yikes. I like characters with red flags, but the book itself is a red flag. Avoid.

This was such a cute story.
Imagine Alice and Mad Hatter falling in love. But it’s a sapphic romance.
The way that Ali and Topps loved each other, was both heartbreaking, and a love like no other. The struggles they went through are so much like day to day struggles for certain people.
I really enjoyed how this book ended. Ali and Topps are forever going to be one of my favorite couples♥️
