I was given this arc courtesy of NetGalley
A Game of Sin had enough to keep me turning the pages, but it never completely hooked me. The chemistry between the main characters was there from the start, and when the story leaned into the tension and the steam, it definitely delivered. That part of the book was hard to put down.
Where it lost me was the pacing. A few scenes dragged on longer than they needed to, and some of the decisions the characters made felt more like they were there to create drama than because they made sense. I kept waiting for a bigger payoff that never quite landed.
That said, I still enjoyed the ride. The writing was solid, the spice was well done without taking over the whole story, and there were enough twists to keep things interesting. It wasn’t a favorite I’ll reread, but I don’t regret picking it up. If you like darker romance with plenty of tension and a heavy dose of spice, there’s a good chance you’ll enjoy it more than I did.

The book reminded me a bit of Kingdom of the Wicked in terms of the seven sins but set in a fantasy world with more of a high fantasy pace.
Many authors Norwegian authors who decide to write in English may struggle with the language, but the language was not a problem in this book. It was clear the author had a good grasp of the English language and knew how to use it.
What I liked:
- The demonic/angelic religion and how thoroughly it was braided into every piece of the story.
- How the resurrection of demonic horses played such a central role.
- The political intrigue and plays for power.
- Aster! I was intrigued by him from the very beginning.
What I didn’t like:
- The pacing felt off. Slow in some parts and rushed in others.
- I struggled to care for any of the characters and didn’t find any of them very likable. They would have benefited from more depth as characters.
- Some parts of the plot felt less consistent and a little bit like they were included to add drama.
For a debut novel, this was absolutely an interesting world to step into. In terms of the book overall, I’d recommend it if you have a special interest in the central themes and topics.

I received this book as an arc to read and review directly from the author.
It was a good read, but unfortunately it didn’t end up as an absolute favorite. I found the story and world-building to be a little slow at the beginning and at some points it was a little hard to keep going. However, I do think the pacing got better after the first few chapters, so reading the rest was good.
I enjoyed the atmosphere and the characters were interesting too, and despite the fact that it was a little slow at the beginning, I enjoyed it! It was an entertaining read overall, and I would recommend others to read it as well.

This was a very surprising book. The storyline and background story really surprised me. Which takes a bit to do.
I've read hundreds of books and some plots become predictable. But here the author has taken in elements from the 7 deadly sins, princes of hell, the archangels and politics.
We meet Evelyn Vhodes, her family is in a tough spot financially after her fathers death. The once wealthy and respected family must now scheme and come up with different options on how they will be back in the good graces of the elite families.
Evelyn is a very interesting female lead character - She is snarky, well behaved, intelligent but also insecure about herself.
In their next great plan Evelyn is to compete in a competition to win money for the family, and to secure her own dowry for marriage.
There are a lot of twists and turns and in the middle of a chaos that unfolds, she also manages to charm her way into one of the royal princes' attention.
The story unfolds with her mixing her way into the royal family, a prince's love, a whole mystery that can save both her family and herself, but also complicated political intrigues that turn dangerous.
I must admit that the start of the book was a bit too complicated. The world building is heavily mixed in with the explanation of the seven sins, how the persons have an affinity for them, and all of the different types of elements, animals and royal houses.
In the start this took a lot of concentration to sort out and it affected my reading experience. So if you experience that the start of the book is hard to follow and you want to stop, i would recommend that you read beyond and continue. Because the second half is very much better. The intrigues start to roll out, the mystery of it all unfolds and the character building is so much better.
The last part of the book had me drawn in and I loved the twist and turns in the storyline.
Evelyn has so much she needs to handle, and it turned into a huge mystery - problem solving adventure in the end.
Could also have been a little more romance for my taste, but all in all a very good and entertaining read and I'm very glad the author reached out to me.

This starts off extremely slow for me, but it still had my attention, and I was interested to see how the story and characters would develop. Unfortunately, I struggled to stay engaged as the story progressed. The pacing felt slow to me, and I found myself waiting for the plot to gain momentum and give me a reason to continue. I just wasn’t invested enough in the characters or the direction of the plot to finish the book. It’s definitely a slow burn though, but even at 40% there was barely any interaction.
Since I didn’t finish the book, I’m only reviewing the portion I read and will not be rating the ending or overall resolution.

A Game of Sin was an addictive read with an interesting magic system, strong character dynamics, and lots of political intrigue. Steeped in power plays, it really delivers on desire, and betrayal. If you enjoy slowburn romance, and a fantasy world where religion and sin are central to the plot rather than just flavor, this is definitely worth reading.

In a world torn between a demonic faith centered on Lucifer and the Seven Deadly Sins, and a Virtuist, angel‑aligned religion, lesser noble Evelyn Vhodes worships the sins, rides demonic horses, and dreams of securing the perfect suitor. That is until her family is dragged into a brutal game of power.
Evelyn finds herself navigating dangerous court politics. As her choices ripple through kingdoms, she has to confront what her true sin really is, and whether she’s willing to let it rule her.
I loved the worldbuilding and the religions. They weren't just aesthetic wallpaper. They were baked into everything: politics, family dynamics, and especially Evelyn’s arc.
The writing style really worked for me, it was descriptive without being dense, easy to follow without feeling simplistic. It’s one of those books you sit down “just for a chapter” and suddenly you’ve inhaled 150 pages, because the plot is engaging, the tension keeps ratcheting up, and you constantly want to know what is going to happen next.
Also, at one point I realized I was fully tearing up over these horrible, sinful people trying (and failing) to do better, which is honestly my favorite kind of reading experience.
Now, about that ending: if this were a standalone, I’d feel a little robbed. It doesn’t quite give me the level of resolution I’d want if we were saying goodbye to these characters forever. Instead, it feels like a deliberate setup for more books, and I really, really hope that’s the case, because I loved this and it’s definitely a new favorite.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This one is a serious mixed bag for me.
A Game of Sin is a debut romantasy novel set within a world that is split between the worship of Arch-Angels and the Princes of Hell, and we are taken through the world by Evelyn Vhodes, a relatively minor noble whose family has been on the decline for a number of years. As a way to gain prestige, and maybe arrange a marriage to increase the families standing. As you would expect this does not go to plan, with events happening that bring the Vhodes family and Evelyn especially to the attention of the ruling family, especially two of the princes, a battle for affections and political games where Evelyn is way out of her depth.
The world itself is a pretty interesting take on the angels/demons dynamic, with the abilities being given based on your personal affinity for your 'sins' and their is a genuine sense of political manoeuvrings throughout. I also appreciate the different locations we visit throughout, and the clear differences and affinities each area has, making the 3 core locations feel distinct. The writing is decently descriptive throughout as well, doing a good job of allowing a visualisation of the world and the people that inhabit it.
With all that said, their are a couple of things that really held this back for me, the first being very inconsistent pacing, certain chapters felt like they needed more fleshing out and time where as others felt like the dragged on too long, and the ebb and flow of the story felt inconsistent as a result. The individual moments were generally good but structurally it felt off, for me at least.
The second point is an odd one, I enjoy reading dislikeable flawed characters, but I struggle to find a single character in here that I can turn round and say 'oh they're ok' I realise part of this is linked to the 'sins' of the world and the detached nature of the political games, but at no point was I inclined to actually root for any of the characters success. The closest I came was with one of the princes, and even then that comes with a massive Asterix. At the end of the book I really struggled to find anything truly redeeming about anyone, or at least not to the extent that they needed, which is fine for the antagonistic presence of the king, who had one absolute standout scene and was a great example of the irredeemable charcter, but I needed something more to latch onto that I got.
Overall for me this gets a 3.25 ⭐️ for me overall, a solid debut, and not a bad read overall, but did not blow me away.

My oh my, what an adventure that was!
Demon religion, morally flawed characters, kingdoms, assholian kings and bratty princes.
What's not to love?
Our flawed main protagonist , Evelyn Vhodes.. where to begin.
Love her or hate her, everything she does is to save her mother from the Leviathans Kiss, that will definitely kill her. Her brother, Pit, head of the Vhodes household is gamiling and poorly investing their money away. Broke. Desprite.
Time is running out, Eveyln must seduce, scheme and make sacrafices in order to save her mother from death, and her family from ruin, all while keeping toes in line with King Hedric of the Caelish throne, and his competetive sons and daughters.
I really liked the writing style here. Descriptive but not saturated in overly dense description either.
The world building was impressive. Creating a whole world of dueling kingdoms, demonic religion, full of sins, horses, magic, bandits, hidden artifacts. The list goes on and on.
This was definitely a slow burn romance, one of was hoping for by the end.
The only reason this wasn't 5 stars was because I did find the pacing alittle slow at times.

Eva gradually comes to realise what her own sin is, having never truly recognised it before. She relies on her charm to get what she wants, but as the story unfolds, she begins to question whether everything is really as it seems. Watching her character develop was one of the highlights of the book.
The story was easy to read, engaging, and kept me wanting to know what would happen next. There were plenty of twists, unexpected moments, and revelations that kept me turning the pages.

The start of this book was so promising. I was genuinely excited to continue reading it however, the pace really dropped down around 30% mark.
I loved the idea of the faith being around demons, the deadly sins and the sinsteads but while it started off as a big factor in the story these parts quickly became an afterthought.
I was so excited for the games where our fmc was to compete on her sinsteed but it fell flat when we only
got a chapter of its details and while her race was interrupted we never got to hear more details of the game. it felt like the author wanted this to be a big part of the story but didnt know to put it to fruition.
In the beginning I loved that our fmc seemed so savy. She knows how to read someone and knows just what to say to please them or to get her way. However, 47% in and that was already getting old when every conversation she had with someone she was over analyzing and had the most perfect response.
Unfortunately for me the pacing of this book made it really hard for me to pick up and caused me to dnf.

got a chapter of its details and while her race was interrupted we never got to hear more details of the game. it felt like the author wanted this to be a big part of the story but didnt know to put it to fruition.
In the beginning I loved that our fmc seemed so savy. She knows how to read someone and knows just what to say to please them or to get her way. However, 47% in and that was already getting old when every conversation she had with someone she was over analyzing and had the most perfect response.
Unfortunately for me the pacing of this book made it really hard for me to pick up and caused me to dnf.

She is no one. A lady. Almost in disgrace. He is the Prince. He wants something. She wants something too. Imagine how wrong but how right this can go !! Demons, sin, tension, politics and a plot that will have you question every single interaction between the characters. It will be complicated before it gets incredibly simple. It will be sad and mad and frustrating before it gets rewarding and satisfying. It’s new adult and so much more fantasy than romantasy. And I really really enjoyed it!! I was not expecting myself to be so caught up in the action but it was really fact paced so it was extremely easy for me to get lost in Evelyn’s story. I would highly recommend this book for fantasy lovers who wants a bit of darkness in their plots and some demons fighting for a throne and for a lady !!!

-Unfortunately this book didn’t grip me as much as I hoped it would. The beginning was very promising because it felt like we dove straight into the action without having to wait around for things to happen. But it felt like it slowed down a little. It was still a very good plot line with great moments, just not exactly right for me.
-I didn’t particularly connect with the characters. Which is a shame because there were some great moments where I really rooted for Eve but as a whole I did’t really care what happened to them.
-By the ending I did feel very intrigued by the whole storyline with the princes. But it felt a little incomplete so I assume there will be a sequel. But overall it still ended nicely.

There was a lot going on in this book between the demon / angel lore and the characters. I struggled a bit with the premise of their religion. If this was spread into two books and the story was fleshed out a little more I think it could’ve been a solid read. Overall, it was an interesting premise and a unique idea. The love story didn’t land for me though.
The story follows Eve, a low tier noble trying to find a husband that can save her family from their misfortunes of low funds and no prospects. A random turn of fate leads her to meet prince Sinclair and leads her down a nebulous path with him and his family as she tries to save her mother from her ill fate as well as bring her family out of poverty.

This book was amazing. The way the story tied together and everything had a meaning that you got to uncover alongside Eve was great. I really enjoyed the world building and the characters were made so human. They all had their flaws and good characteristics. I was rooting for Aster from the second that he mentioned 🙈 Though I learnt to sympathise with Sinclair as well towards the end. Eve was more complicated. In my eyes she was a good person. Yes, she succumbed to the sin of Pride more often than not but she learnt from her mistakes and it all came from a good heart. She was what a great FMC should be like for me and I got really attached to her and the other characters. (not Hedric though, he can rot in between the realms 🙋♀️)

The world is interesting. Demons and the deadly sins are worshiped, but it does not feel like it is inherently evil.
I found it hard to get a proper read on the characters. At first the prince shows ultimate control over others, but then he knowingly does something which shows he is not, and the King is the one in control. At times there are those that know everything, but somehow things are kept from them.

First off. Thank you to the author for the ARC. I have never ever read anything like this, way to GO! Truly a unique way to spice up the romantasy genre today. The entire worldbuilding and the religious aspect of it KILLED it in this book! the descriptive and expository way we get to walk into and explore this world is amazing. This is dark, this is the perfect amount of spicy and a morally grey everyone! For me this was top tier, only dragged down a bit because the politics and pace can make it a bit heavy on the reader. But if you can go into it thinking its more of a game of thrones sceming behind the demon worshipping badass adventure you will not get any problems here.

Eva was an interesting yet confusing and confused young lady. I could tell from the first minute she met Aster where this was going to end, but the ride was good.
I had a few questions at the end of the book, but all in all it was very interesting and a plot that was different for other books.

A Game of Sin was an addictive read with an interesting magic system, strong character dynamics, and lots of suspense! The story started a little slow, but once it picked up, I was hooked!
If you enjoy morally gray characters, political intrigue, and slow-burn romance, this is definitely worth reading. ☺️
I can’t wait to see what happens next!!

3.5⭐️ A morally grey FMC who is trying to seduce a prince so she can go on a voyage to find a way to heal her mom. I enjoyed the world and the characters, it was a bit difficult to read at the beginning some of the world building seemed a little choppy. I think a few more pages on that to draw me in more initially would’ve helped, but it took until the last third of the book for me to get really invested.

I am absolutely enamored with this book. The mystery, the intrigue, and the depth of the characters completely hooked me. The writing is poetic, yet never feels distracting or dense.
It's rare to find a protagonist who is arguably the villain, yet I couldn't help but be sucked into her journey—constantly finding myself rooting both for and against her at different points.
Furthermore, the way Ederi developed the Demonism religion was incredibly well done. The way it intricately ties into the main character's growth felt entirely refreshing and new, adding a brilliant layer to the overall story.
I really want to find out what happens next and hope there's more in store for these characters!

A cool, solidly written romantic fantasy full of scheming nobels, awful kings and high stakes that features a magic system based on sins and virtues, an interesting mystery and demonic horses!
The main character is smart, calculated, flawed and at times really hard to like, which made for an entertaining read.
I wish we could've seen more of the magic and the sinsteeds, tho!

This book starts out with a great opening line, and has some strong chapters; however, it suffers from pacing issues throughout. I didn't find myself sucked in to the story or caring about any of the characters. This might be someone's jam, but it just wasn't mine.
