It's quite a teaching for kindergartens. Such habits we must told children about and this way of telling them via stories has been so old and success way. Good for children.
Rhyming story using US vocabulary; it links cute sea creature characters like Cedric the shark to human difficulties of too much candy versus tooth decay and need for dental care and oral health care.
Read/shared with a two and four year old, both of whom enjoyed it and I’m placing this on their own e readers for Christmas.
This one is a freebie too. Worth four kiddy stars for poetry story and cute illustrations.
HASHINI 1. Minor concerns, primarily, the rhyme on Page 11, was mediocre at best. 2. Excellent narration except for viewing appearance would have been strengthened without obstructive views caused by diameter of narrator's (VIVIAN) head. 3. Putting myself into a child's psyche, the questions posed at the end of the book should have had forewarning as else could have a very distressing effect.
KRISH 1. Historical accuracy lacking with Octopus Mary not having teeth, despite her occupation as an orthodontist. 2. Discussions of questions at the end was exquisite, although forewarning would have been preferred as it felt like a siege. The lack of answers is also rather disconcerting. Be assured that concept of the questions was stunning, although execution could have been improved. You could have referenced answers to each page of the book. 3. Constructive feedback: see "The Coin" (upcoming work to be self-published)
VIVIAN 1. Experience as narrator was wonderful, but front page could be improved, being only capitalised Times New Roman at the top. No sizzling start - failed to grab the reader. Needed a more compelling 'The End' page as it went straight to questions with Mum and Dad. 2. See 'The Coin' for better opening (upcoming work to be self-published).
If you would like more constructive feedback, please do not hesitate to reach out to the author of 'The Coin' (upcoming work to be self-published).
Ultimately, as the readers with an average age of 21, we thoroughly enjoyed reading and laughing while reading about Cedric getting A toothache at midnight on Good Friday!
This was an e-book, and I was frustrated trying to turn it so that I could read it 'book-style'. I tried turning it all around and upside down, but it can only be read on my i-pad lengthwise, which I eventually did. So. My intention was to read the book to my granddaughter, and that probably will not be successful. As for the story, the content and the colorful drawings, the book rates high for pre-schoolers. I liked it but would need to have it in a regular hard-book and not on my Kindle. And I note that this is the first book of many that I have been unable to read easily in its format.
I read this to my son and he thoroughly enjoyed the story very much (and thought Cedric was silly lol). He had great fun explaining why eating too much candy is a problem (my son). It was a nice bed time story and really is written simply for young children and has very nice drawings in it as well.
Just finished reading this to the kiddos I’m babysitting because they insist on eating candy before bed lol. Cedric’s toothache made them realize what happens if you eat too much candy. They are currently asking for carrot sticks with ranch hahahahaaaa 😂😂😂
This is such a fun sweet book (no pun intended!) . I love the fact that the end of the book has a question bit for kids to be asked as it engages the reader and also makes sure that the facts of good teeth care have got through. The book flows easily due to the rhyming , it makes it easier to remember what happens. The illustrations are brilliant and really add too the book . I highly recommend this book!
CEDRIC THE SHARK..GETS A TOOTHACHE by Kay Carter is a children's story book focusing on Cedric the Shark, and his visit to the dentist.
CEDRIC THE SHARK follows Cedric as he eats too much candy, and doesn't look after his teeth. A toothache then follows, and Cedric must visit the dentist, Octopus Mary, who teaches Cedric about looking after his teeth.
Told in AABB rhyming scheme, CEDRIC THE SHARK is a quick read suitable for preschool aged children, with colorful images, easy text, and a simple message.
A good and entertaining way to highlight to little one why brushing their teeth is such a good idea. Good colours used when it comes to the illustrations, all the see creatures look good and welcoming.
This is a cute little story about Cedric the Shark, who eats too much candy and gets a toothache. It teaches a good lesson to little children about good dental care in a fun, colorful little book. I especially liked the octopus dentist!
I loved the story and the rhymes, my grandchildren loved the illustrations and the crazy characters and the book was a hit with all ages from 3 to 7, in fact the 7 year old read it back to me afterwards!.
A book to be enjoyed again and again, with a great moral in it's storyline too. Fantastic.
The book that I read was Cedric the Shark By Kay Carter. For this book the genre I would describe it to be as fiction. But to sub categorize it was adventure story. The book is very obvious because it is about a shark that has a toothache because of eating too much candy and has to go to the dentist. Unless the ocean has a dentist office for animal’s no one is aware of. For this story they make it a very upbeat and happy tone. But also having a new learning experience.
While reading this story it just screams fiction on every page. For example, one page 10 Cedric is eating a great amount of lollies and toffees. I don’t think sharks are able to eat things like that. Another thing is when Cedric gets a toothache his friends recommends him going to the dentist. Which the octopus did and she helped him with his cavities. Sharks like to eat octopuses and he didn’t want to take one bite of her. At the end of the book it said “…. And vowed never to be greedy with candy no more!” In the ocean you do what you can to survive and make sure you are well fed.
For Adventure you learn about some interesting places Cedric goes. Cedric comes to the top of the ocean and basically gets himself out of the water to talk to a sea lion to get directions to the dentist. While following a horribly drawn out map to the dentist he interacts with other fishes. As Cedric makes his way to the new doctors he gets his teeth clean and is cavity free. All in all, this book is screaming fiction through every page. But it’s a great children’s fiction book having an adventure in the sea.
Cedric (boy shark) loves adventures & playing with his friends. 1 of his goal’s was to find food. Cedric also ate different kinds of candy. He wasn’t feeling well at all. Now, Cedric had a toothache. Can Billy (sea lion) help him?
They went to see Mary (Octopus).

An awesome book cover, great hand-drawn colored pictures, charming illustrations & proper font & writing style. A very professionally written children’s (preschool/elementary age) Shark rhyming storybook. It was quite easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters, settings, etc. to keep track of. This could also make another great children’s educational presentation (helping friends), Shark movie, an animated cartoon, or better yet a mini-TV series. There is no doubt in my mind this is an extremely easy rating of 5 stars.

Smooth rhyming text and cool, clear cartoon pictures tell the story of shark who knows he shouldn’t eat candy but does anyway, “just to feel dandy.” Images of the happy and sad shark are truly delightful and small readers will easily relate to the poor fish’s emotions. And so begins an oceanic quest to find an oceanic dentist.
The characters are brightly colored, easily recognizable, and enticingly fun. The text is very natural. The dentist’s chair is as scary as you’d expect, and the dentist’s advice as wise. I particularly enjoyed the eight-arms of the dentist maneuvering dental equipment.
The story ends with a short memory test to be enjoyed with “mum and dad,” or presumably any other caregiver. Pre-readers will enjoy reciting back what they learned in the story… and might even learn not to get toothache!
Disclosure: I got this book on a deal and I enjoyed it.
Cedric The Shark...Gets Toothache! is a wonderful children's story. The main lesson to children is the importance of oral hygiene and with Cedric's help the author does a beautiful job. Kay Carter has a gift for laying out step by step the dangers of neglecting your teeth and how to fix them in a quick easy manner that most children can understand. The story is fun as Cedric suffering from a toothache sets out to find help. Their are several other characters that help Cedric on his search, all unique and quite colorful. The art work is really well done with nice large clear pictures that give the characters a larger than life appearance. The color adds greatly to making the story friendly and lighthearted for reading to children and for children to read on their own. A great, quick and easy read that should be on your children's bookshelf.
This book is about a little boy shark that likes to swim around eat fish, he also likes to eat candy even though he knows he shouldn't. He goes to his friend Billy who sends him to the dentist to help fix the problem. The book is very short and is for early readers for sure. There words rhyme and the lesson is straight to the point. The images are very generic and are amusing to look at, but for a child they might be very interested by it. The book teaches what sharks eat and also to brush your teeth. Overall this book is very easy to read and straight to the point if you want to teach your kids lessons. At the end of the book it has review pages for parents and their kids or teachers and their students to go over "major" points in the book.
This is a Pre-School Child's book. It is book one in the Cedric The Shark series. These would be a great addition to your home library. The storyline and illustrations are fun and exciting. All Cedric thought about was Looking for prey (food). Cedric knew sharks didn't eat candy, but he did, and he was greedy. He ate more and more. One day he had a toothache. He swam off to see his friend Billy the Sea Lion. Billy told him where to go to get help. Did he go? Who would help a shark with a toothache? Find out by reading/listening for all the answers.
I enjoyed this book. The struggle of getting kids to consistently brush their teeth is a very real issue. This story helps to normalize going to the dentist and hopefully make it less frightening for some kids. The illustrations are simple but I enjoyed them as part of the story. The rhyme scheme was also fun and almost gave it a Doctor Seuss feel. An ocean theme is popular among younger kids so I think that the subject and the characters were a smart combination. I can think of multiple students I met who could relate to Cedric the shark. Eating sweets is all fun and games until your teeth hurt. I appreciate anything that can help calm kids down and help make hygiene less scary. At the end of the story there are also questions to test your memory or even prompt further research. I think these sorts of follow up questions help to gauge overall engagement with the material and can inspire kids to look up even more information.
The story of Cedric The Shark is told with wonderful rhyming and cute illustrations. It is a great way to have fun with a young child and them to learn more about taking care of their teeth, and not eating too many sweets.
Also, the story brings in a dentist and how helpful a dentist can be. For small children, this is a nice way to teach them about how the dentist is helpful.
There is a questionnaire at the end the story that parents can ask a child questions for further interaction.
Happy reading toddlers and recuperating ex-doctoral candidates! 🦧
P. S. He is not that bad though. Just a nice and a mad scientist, sorry kid-boy-shark.
P. P. S. If you are ever reading this Cedric, remember I have to eat and feed myself, or might die otherwise. Counting on your kindness here! So please give good recommendations. 🙃
P. P. P. S. If you don't think your supervisor is a shark, have you even done a PhD?!?!!!
Cedric the Shark...Gets Toothache! is a cute book about a shark eating too much candy and forgetting to brush his teeth resulting in a toothache. Preschool children are learning about brushing teeth and this rhyming story of the shark is a great way to use a book to reinforce a new skill, promote dental health and enjoy a good book together whike sneaking in a lesson in a fun way. Children learn more and retain more when learing is fun and interesting and Cedric's story is that. He also figures out how to solve his problem and get ruid of his toothache.
Colourful, delightful story about Cedric, the Shark, who eats too many sweets and doesn't brush his teeth and ends up with a toothache. After consulting with several other sea creatures, he is directed to Mary, the Octopus dentist who helps him take care of his toothache and also gives him advice on how to take better care of his teeth.
I look forward to reading this to our grandchildren as we do a road trip and visit this coming summer. Perfect for early readers too.
Got this book, so I told it to my child, and they love it, so thank you for this book!!!☺☺☺😍😍😍💓💓💓
Good thing it's short!!! I will share me experience, my kid do love it and I love ot too!!! Guys, get this book, it's free, short, and it's worth it!!! I will say wow for this story book 😍😍 Got this book, so I told it to my child, and they love, so thank you you for this book!!!☺☺☺😍😍😍💓💓💓
The premise of the story is very good but the grammar in this book is atrocious. Even my 4 year old grand little knew when it was written improperly. I should have realized by the title... Cedric The Shark Gets Toothache! Not- gets "a" toothache. That and they repeat Cedric's name at the beginning of EVERY sentence. Overkill, we know his name. I am sooo over it. And the littles lost interest. We will not be buying the next books in the series.
The story is fine, nothing exceptional. Love the drawings, though, they are very cute and colorful! I feel that there was a missed opportunity to remind kids to brush at the end. It felt like it was just saying don’t eat so much candy.....but if you do, just go to the dentist and they’ll make everything all better.
My children love these little books. They thoroughly enjoy each and every story, as if they are all unique and individual without any cause for similarity among them. Even though sometimes, they might seem tedious and repetitive to me as a parent, I do enjoy being able to read short-stories to my children that are clean and respective.
Meet Cedric, a little boy shark who loves adventures and playing with his friends. He gets a toothache from eating too much candy. Off he swims to see Billy the Sea Lion as he thinks Billy can help him. Billy sends him to see Mary the Octopus...She is a dentist for all of the sea! This book is full of gorgeous illustrations which help the story move along far too quickly.
Cedric The Sharkk is a good read to teach students about toothaches and what can cause a toothache. It also shows how your friends can be helpful when it comes to helping you with what amy be bothering you. Another thing that I also liked is how it has a rhyming scheme, very good to keep students engaged.
