In Superbia, a city built on sin, power is currency and everyone has a price.
Cael Veythar has spent three centuries feeding on the envy of others, a demon who knows exactly how dark the human heart runs. He works alone, steers clear of attachments, and answers to no one.
Until she walks into his office wearing someone else's collar.
Lyriel has survived a century of captivity by being whatever her master needs. Getting close to a demon who sees through every performance was the job. Wanting to stay was the problem.
When Gorvash's empire threatens everything they've built in the shadows, Cael and Lyriel discover that the deadliest sin isn't envy.
It's what you're willing to do for the person you can't walk away from.
In a city where power is currency and everyone has a price, this dark fantasy romance promises a captivating journey into the shadows of desire, manipulation, and redemption.
Cael Veythar is the kind of morally gray demon who commands attention from the moment he enters the page. After three centuries of feeding on envy, he's mastered the art of seeing through people's deepest insecurities while keeping his own heart firmly out of reach. Cold, calculating, and fiercely independent, he has no intention of letting anyone close enough to become his weakness.
Then there's Lyriel, a woman whose century of captivity has taught her that survival means becoming whatever others want her to be. She's clever, resilient, and accustomed to hiding her true self behind carefully crafted performances. But getting close to Cael might be the most dangerous role she's ever played, especially when the line between manipulation and genuine affection begins to blur.
What makes this premise so compelling is the tension between two characters who understand darkness but must confront what it means to be truly seen. Their relationship promises the perfect blend of distrust, dangerous chemistry, emotional vulnerability, and the kind of slow-burning intimacy that makes every stolen moment feel like a risk.
The world of Superbia adds another delicious layer of intrigue. With its demonic power struggles, sinister alliances, and an empire threatening to destroy everything Cael and Lyriel have built, the stakes extend far beyond their growing attraction. Gorvash's looming threat promises political machinations, brutal choices, and plenty of opportunities for these morally complicated characters to reveal just how far they're willing to go.
And that central theme? Absolutely delicious. In a world ruled by the seven deadly sins, envy might be Cael's greatest source of power, but love could become his greatest undoing.
If you love morally gray demons, fiercely resilient heroines, forbidden attraction, dark fantasy worlds, and romances where falling in love feels as dangerous as going to war, this story has all the ingredients for an addictive read.
Because sometimes, the most terrifying thing isn't the monster lurking in the shadows.
It's the person who makes you want to step into the light. 🖤
Welcome back to a world where sin is power, demons are dangerous, and falling for the wrong person might just destroy everything. Cael Veythar had me hooked. A demon who has spent centuries feeding on envy, keeping everyone at arm's length, and refusing to let anyone get close? Yeah, we all know how well that whole I don't do attachmetns thing tends to work out. And Lyriel? My heart hurt for her. After a century of captivity, learning to survive by becoming whatever someone else needed her to be, watching her navigate the darkness while slowly discovering something worth fighting for was an emotional ride. The tension between these two, the secrets, the danger, and the way their connection grows had me completely invested. One of my favorite things about this book is how it explores the line between survival and truly living, between keeping everyone out and finding someone worth letting in. When everything they've built is threatened, the stakes get even higher, and the story reminds us that love can be just as dangerous as any sin. And if you've read Pride: Kneel Before None by Sadie Winchester, you already know this world of sin has a way of pulling you in and refusing to let go. Being back in the same realm made this even more exciting, and I absolutely loved getting to experience another side of it.
This story is spicy and a few times dark. Please check your trigger warnings. We meet Lyriel, an angel who has spent over a century enslaved to a demon named Gorvash. When Gorvash needs someone to carry out some ad hoc surveillance on deals within a territory he wants to claim, he sends his favourite, Cael, to observe and report back. Cael is Envy, one of the sins, and he comes with plenty of baggage of his own. However, when Cael and Lyriel meet, an instant bond sparks between them. Each time they encounter one another, it becomes harder for them to resist the connection growing between them. Unfortunately, Lyriel is still a slave and wears an enchanted collar that inflicts pain whenever she makes a movement that goes against Gorvash’s instructions. Her only reprieve comes when she meets Cael in his warded office, where she can finally find some relief from her circumstances. I really enjoyed reading this book! There are a few surprises along the way that genuinely shocked me, making this an intriguing addition to the world. This is one of the standalone stories set in Superbia, with multiple authors contributing to the shared world. The overall series is called Infernal Virtues. I received an ARC via the author's newsletter in exchange for an honest review.

Honestly, at first I was having a hard to picking this book up. Might have been the deadline 😂 butttt powering through was the best thing I have ever decided to do. Usually I’m pretty adamant when it comes to a book hooking me and keeping me grounded needing to be early on but when I tell you, you need to power through you better believe me.
Cael is the entire definition of I will burn the world for you 🔥. Lyriel is the epitome of “you will not break me”. I loved how BJ gave Lyriel such an empowering personality.🪽 Giving her the background and life of one that felt powerless and chose to take control. How she never lost hope and never gave into Gorvash’s control.
This book has both spice and darkness which I think should be a given based off the title. The bond that blossoms between Cael and Lyriel is beautiful. The unshakable kind of love that only grows stronger with every trial they face together🖤.
I don’t think it was my favorite on how they got together. I do think that it was very matter of fact. They just decided. And that was that. It might be because I’m drawn to slow burn romances but it was still a beautiful story and one that I do not regret reading.

Another trip back to Superbia for me and another wicked sin revealed! I am LOVING the Infernal Virtues series - 6 authors, 7 deadly sins, 1 interconnected world and a whole lot of chaos in demon form 😈
B.J. Wolff nailed the gritty, dark vibe of Superbia with this one and I loved that there was a more urban warfare spin to it. Who doesn’t want a little more chaos and bloodshed in their life?
I loved the FMC Lyriel, she’s a survivor with secrets but don’t for a second take her submission as weakness. One hundred years of servitude gives a gal plenty of time to think, and plot. Cael was my favorite kind of demon, smart, sarcastic, and above all, he knows what people envy and he’s more than happy to help.
But what happens when you want what you can’t have but are determined to find a way? Chaos. Absolute chaos. This one is going to run you through the wringer - you’re going to be angry, you’re going to hate the situation at times, you’re going to be sad for MCs, but you’re also going to find hope even if comes from an unusual place. Oh, and throw in an epic battle just for good measure!
I really enjoyed this one and loved how it showed me another side of Superbia I didn’t know existed. That’s what makes this series so unique, I keep finding out new things and new perspectives that I didn’t expect but am so stoked to uncover! It’s definitely keeping me on my toes!
Envy: Beyond Sin is out 🗓️ TODAY so don’t become green with envy, do yourself a favor and take your first trip to Superbia - I promise you won’t regret it! 💚
Another trip back to Superbia means another wicked sin revealed! The Infernal Virtues series—6 authors, 7 deadly sins, 1 interconnected world, and endless demon-fueled chaos—has me hooked. B.J. Wolff perfectly captured the gritty, dark vibe of Superbia with an urban warfare twist, and I loved every second. Lyriel, the FMC, is a survivor with secrets, and her submission is anything but weakness. A century of servitude gives plenty of time to think—and plot. Cael is my favorite kind of demon: smart, sarcastic, and skilled at exploiting envy. But when you want what you can’t have and refuse to give up? Chaos. Absolute chaos. This story will put you through the wringer—anger, frustration, sadness for the MCs—but it also delivers hope from unexpected places, plus an epic battle for good measure. I enjoyed seeing a new side of Superbia I never knew existed, and that’s what makes this series so unique. It keeps surprising me with fresh perspectives I’m thrilled to uncover. Envy: Beyond Sin is out today, so skip the envy and take your first trip to Superbia—you won’t regret it!
Omg this book is unlike any of BJ book he's previously published. His writing. His characters. His storytelling. It is all unremarkable. I...I am quite literally sitting over here trying to form thoughts that make sense because it was just that damn good!
Cael is everything. And imma need him in my life. Horns and all... 🫣🤣 he captivates you from the very first time meeting him and continues to reel you in every single time.
Lyriel is probably one of thr strongest FMC's I have EVER met and I was here for it. I mean, I could definitely do without all the excess trauma, obviously. But dang did she show up!
These two together? Nothing can compare. Nothing can come between them. Their bond, their love is stronger than life!!
Ohhh and that epilogue?! CHEFS FKN KISS!!!! Omg! Obsessed. But but but now I want at minimum, a novella! 😬🤣
It was slow to start. Waiting for all the pieces to fall in line and line up correctly. But once it all lined up the story started to make a lot more sense. I really enjoyed it more once the story started coming together. This is the first time I’ve heard of the author so I didn’t know their writing style. There was a lot of plot to this. Which I enjoyed. I so didn’t like Gorvash. But the way he wrote him was exactly how I imagined him looking. Granted you find those details at the end and some bits here and there. Cael and Lyriel were exactly what I imagined. All though I couldn’t figure out what was going on with the collar but I figured it out. It was to block her special powers.
Another great story about Superbia. This is the second book that I have read in the series, and this one did not disappoint. The darkness, intrigue, and intensity practically leaps off the pages. Cael and Lyriel didn't expect to have chemistry and attraction with each other because Lyriel belongs to someone else. Reading this book definitely pulled out a lot of emotions and the characters development throughout the story was great to see. The author introduced another side to Superbia and the story was very well written. The story made me believe that I was actually living in Superbia. I found the story entertaining and intriguing. I also loved reading this book and I can't wait to read another story in this series.
Oh my this book really has way of pulling you in. It has a solid storyline and plot. It's a touch dark with loads of spice. And of course the characters I really liked them. I feel like there was some character growth and I enjoyed how things evolved over the course of the story. It's an addictive page turner for sure. Plus the few surprises that are in this are well placed and they may or may not be something you'll see coming or even expect but they are really good. Thank you to the author for a copy of this. All thoughts are my own and freely given.
Cael and Lyriel... just wow! I am becoming more obsessed with Superbia with every book I read! This series is becoming a favorite for sure. I love an angel/demon love story, but add in the fact that she is ‘ owned’ and enslaved by another and the Envy Demon Cael protects her? Sold!
Though I strongly dislike a slow burn, most of the time, this one was done well and had a story beyond their relationship. I found myself interested in what was going on other than saying ‘ ugh when will they just get together’. This is the first book I have read by B.J. and I will be reading more!
A great addition to the Superbia series of books. In this book is the story of Lyriel and Cael. Cael is sinfully delicious demon and Lyriel an angel. Who doesn't like a good smutty book with a good plot about an angel and a demon?🤣🤣. Anyway...Lyriel is a slave to a very cruel demon. I won't spoil all of what happens but just know everything works out in the end. Lots of twists and turns in this book. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. I look forward to reading more from this author.
Cael, who is Envy, is an interesting and dark MMC. I liked his character arch and of course his relationship with the FMC, Lyriel. The author expands on Superbia which I’ve read about in the previous books in the series. The spice is fantastic and only adds to the plot. I definitely recommend this book and the author!
This is great addition to the Infernal Virtues series based on the 7 deadly sins. Each standalone is by a different author.
Such an incredible story and the writing of this one is by far the best in terms of story telling and really setting that dark old school noir crime feel! Cael is such a grumpy bastard but I love it and Lyriel is such an honest and refreshing FMC! Their love story has ups and downs and I was cheering so hard for their HEA (and got it)! Really really enjoyed this one 💜💚💜💚💜💚
My first read by this author and I like the premise of one of the Seven Deadly Sins. Cael is a demon and Lyriel (I ❤️ her name) is an angel. The most precise definition of opposites attracts and enemies to lovers. I enjoyed the plot, the progression of their relationship, the twists kept it interesting, and the characters were believable.
This was a hot and spicy Angel and Demon story. I loved Cael and Lyriel. They were so good together. A grumpy demon and a slave for an angel. I was definitely immersed in this one and I loved the world building. This was intense with twists and turns that kept me invested. Absolutely loved this one.
Okay, I wasn’t sure what to expect going into this one, but I was pleasantly surprised! 👀 The spice definitely caught me off guard, and I’m not complaining! 🥵🌶️ Overall, a fun and spicy read that I really enjoyed! Definitely worth adding to your TBR! 🖤📚
High up there with the Socy 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ content Okay, you won’t hear me complain 👀 - Overall, a fun and spicy read that I really enjoyed! Definitely worth putting on your TBR! 📚
