The McKinleys #3

When There is Love

Rate this book

WHEN THERE IS LOVE is book 3 in the Christian romance series The McKinleys by bestselling author, Kimberly Rae Jordan. Follow the stories of Eric, Brooke, Victoria and Alicia as their present lives are impacted by decisions and events in their past. This heartwarming series of love, faith and family is sure to inspire and move you.

Born with a form of dwarfism, Victoria McKinley has spent her whole life proving she can do anything an average size person can. But she's not sure that includes dating her brother's best friend. For the past few months, Victoria has managed to brush aside Trent Hause's not-so-subtle attempts to flirt with her. Unfortunately, her last two experiences with dating average size men have not gone well, and she's not sure if the third time's a charm or if it will be a strike-out.

Trent Hause's feelings for his best friend's sister have grown quite unexpectedly from friendship to something much more. But after several months of her rebuffing his lighthearted attempts to get her to go out with him, he realizes that perhaps a different approach is in order. When the opportunity presents itself for Trent to help Victoria out, he jumps at the chance to show her that underneath his carefree exterior is a man of depth who loves her.

Even as she's drawn to Trent, Victoria realizes she has to face the fears and insecurities she's long denied or risk losing her chance at happiness. Will she come to embrace God's will for her life and find love with Trent? Or will fear bind her to the safe life she's been living for far too long?

When There is Love is a clean Christian oriented romance. With this review, I have now read and reviewed twelve books by Kimberly Rae Jordan. I urge readers new to Ms. Jordan’s work to ignore any suggestion that any of her books are pure stand-alone works. For the best reading experience, I recommend reading in date of publication sequence. Protagonists and critical characters, once introduced, frequently become players in future books and future series, even when the setting for a series shifts from Minneapolis to Winnipeg.

Although Ms. Jordan is an established author, I am disappointed when, in book after book, typos, grammar errors, dropped words, and other errors find their way into the finished product. I believe a good proofreader would resolve these issues. Still, the quality and flow of her writing otherwise help me temper my disappointment.

Another tactic is that the author seems enamored with the concept of leaving issues unresolved in one book, evidently to encourage buying the next book to find the resolution. In some cases, it makes buying more than one book to resolve the issue.

Although the subject is introduced earlier in the series, in this offering, Ms. Jordan highlights the obstacles facing people afflicted with dwarfism, most especially when a romantic interest develops between a little person and a person of average height. I applaud this effort, but I must admit to feeling that this reveals an issue that needs further exploration.

Series: Better than Stand Alones

Kimberly Rae Jordan's series carry a lot more substance. In fact, it's hard to believe it's the same author. She has an amazing knack for carrying the characters over from one novel to another, leaving their personalities intact-- lending more depth to each character. This particular story gave me more insight into "little people," showing that they're human with very real emotions. This particular story gave me respect for "little people," and caused me to look at them from a different perspective.

The world of fiction needs more stories like Victoria and Trent’s that deal with real characters facing real situations instead of overused, idealistic romance tropes.

Victoria McKinley is a great character that faces living with dwarfism with courage and faith. Trent is sensitive and considerate and tries to build his life around the substance and loving relationships he missed growing up. The narrative of how they navigate their challenges and feelings is inspirational and entertaining.

Great warming story.

I love all of her books . I've started reading them all again . The characters in this book are so likable. Including people from previous books makes the story seem so real. The surprising situations make it harder to put it down. I really liked Trent. I love a kind loving Christian man who lives a life with strong convictions. This is what all men should be like

Excellent Book

This book was excellent for me. Being different can be a handicap, but learning how to except the difference is shown in this book. I would definitely recommend this book to everyone.

I liked Victoria in the first book where she was a supporting character, this book is her story. Loved watching her and Trent dance around each other, very good book- Christian, clean, and fun.

Lovely Every Time

When There is Love, just like the other books in The McKinleys series, is lovely every single time that I read it. And the message that “I am fearfully and wonderfully made” is one that I need reminded of each time that I enjoy Trent and Victoria’s romance.

Great read

Really enjoyed all the different turns in this story. It was good to be reminded that all people are not alike. Some people treat other people different even thou God has made everybody the same, but different in ways and all of the challenges they have to deal with.

This book was different.....addressed the issues of a "little person" - a woman with a form of dwarfism - dating a man of normal size. It was an enjoyable read, and it made me really think.

When There is Love

Such a good story of how love can conquer anything! So many people are cruel in this world. So glad these two saw past that cruelty and ended up together!

The one McKinley sibling who hasn't lost her faith -- then again she wasn't born when her dad had his affair -- Victoria (Tori) has enough challenges being a little person, with all the associated health issues. And now she has a suitor, long-time friend Trent Hause. But her past experiences with average-sized people haven't worked out too well, does she want to try yet again?

Trent and Tori have been friends for a long time. But Trent now has deeper feelings. And he has NO problem defending Tori against anyone -- stupid punk teenagers, or even his own family -- who may threaten her. Not to mention teaching her how to defend herself.

The last (of sorts) of the McKinley series. And as good as the others. (Interesting crossover idea: could BlackThorpe employee "Tracer" have been the one to discover -- and recover -- Paige's settlement money?

Fantastic book. I'm really enjoying this series. The author goes dialogue beautifully. The two lead characters were outstanding. The subplot of dwarfism was gripping, dramatic an filled with strength and dramatic flair.

Kimberly Rae Jordan is one of my absolute all time favorites - Real events, "Real" characters and storylines that depict real trials and the grace that can handle them correctly. Don't get me wrong - this book is not filled with people living a happily ever after. What this book does contain is characters who are persevering with the strength of friends, family, and faith. Tori's story enlightened me to dwarfism and I am so glad that Kimberly faced this issue head on making me more aware of how important sensitivity and having an open mind can be. Tori is an exceptional person and it takes the steadfast desire that Trent has to show her she is worthy of so much more than she realizes. Another story that brought me to tears in places and I'm so sad to see this one end and have to wait on the next one.

Loved this book

I love everything Kimberly writes. What makes this book awesome is the fact that it deals with real issues that people have. Victoria is such a wonderful person and everyone else sees how special she is except her. Trent has known his feelings for her for a while. So to see the challenges that Victoria has with giving love a Chance and putting everything in God's hand is difficult, but well worth reading to the end. Love this book, lo e this author and her writings about Christianity. Thank you again for another wonderfully written book.

Oh, I loved this book so much. As soon as I had read "This Time With Love" in knew this was the one I couldn't wait to read. It was as wonderful as I'd hoped. I love that Kimberly's characters are imperfect people with imperfect lives trying their best to live their lives as God wants them to. This was such a sweet love story! Well done again Kimberly!

Victoria is one very special person. The challenges she has faced is truly amazing. Trent has liked her for a long time, watching these two's relationship change will have you on the edge of your seat waiting to see what happens next. You will feel God working throughout this whole book. This book deserves a higher rating if is so good you won't be able to stop reading it.

This is my second time reading this book. It is a good story that deals with what 'little people' have to live with and how the main character overcame the challenges. The man who falls in love with her does show what true love is in learning about the challenges and then helping her find ways to achieve what she wants to instead of telling her she cannot.

Loved it. The story of Victoria, a little people, and Trent, an average guy. Love has no boundaries. Trent loves Victoria for who she is, not what she looks like or how tall she is.

Learned a few things about dwarfism. Loved the story of both characters tender hearts.

I'm a big fan of this author but this book wasn't among my favorites. I rated book 1 of the series to be 5 stars. The pace of this one was way too slow with too much unnecessary detail. I wound up perusing two-thirds of the book and don't feel that I missed anything.

Thanks to this author!

Wonderful romance. With God all things are possible and this story truly matches that statement. I'm so glad I read it. It touches me in more ways than I can express (yes I know this is a book) to know there are Godly men left in this planet.

I enjoyed the book, but had trouble following the story. The Kindle ebook version jumped several pages at a time and repeated other parts.

I liked reading. about another member of a family and making the story continue. I look forward to reading more books by Jordan.
