Calista Vale survived the Blood Hunt and claimed the Moon Crown.
Now she might lose everything.
Just as Calista and the Savage King finally choose each other, his brother returns from the dead to claim everything Savage has fought for. His throne. His kingdom.
And his queen.
Now two heirs stand between Lunaris and war, and ancient law forbids Calista and Savage from completing their bond until the rightful king is chosen. One wrong touch could threaten her crown. One buried secret could destroy everything she bled to win.
But something far more dangerous is awakening.
Wolvryn are succumbing to a mysterious madness, their beasts twisting beyond the moon’s control. And when the afflicted begin answering to Calista, the wolfless queen discovers the power growing inside her may be connected to the darkness spreading across the realm.
With enemies closing in, her mother missing, and Savage forced into a brutal succession rite against the brother he once mourned, Calista must decide how much she’s willing to sacrifice for the crown.
Because she has already chosen her king.
Now she’ll have to survive the moon to keep him.
Perfect for readers who love: Enemies-to-lovers, arranged marriages, deadly moonlit trials, possessive wolf kings, and heroines who bite back.
G.K. De Rosa has been an avid reader from a very young age. In fact, before she could even read, she tried fooling everyone into thinking that she could. At the precocious age of two, while living in Italy, she had memorized an entire children’s book in Italian and expertly turned the pages at the exact right moments of the story. As she grew up, she always enjoyed literature, no doubt having been instilled with a love of story telling from her early years in Catholic school where she was greatly influenced by exemplary teachers who taught her the value of English and Literature. Though she did not pursue writing in college and instead went for the more traditional route of International Business inspired by her love for travel and all things foreign, after a move to New York City, she found her creative writing side calling once again. She began writing a restaurant review blog, City Lights and Tasty Bites, detailing her other passion – food! The hectic hustle and bustle of the city, combined with long commuting times gave her the opportunity to spend more time reading and rekindled a lost love. After reading countless books in many diverse genres over the two years in New York City, and returning to her home state of Florida, she felt compelled to write something for herself. She had always felt particularly drawn to Young Adult novels and having been an eternal romantic at heart, a fantasy romance was a natural choice. She currently lives in South Florida with her real life Prince Charming and their fur baby, Nico the German Shepherd.
Well GK continues to make me wonder where the heck this story is going but I’m locked in and along for the ride so LFG.
Book 2 picks up right where book 1 ended. Calista has won the Blood Hunt and has been Moon Crowned but with the return of Savage’s long thought dead brother the fate of the crown and exactly who Calista will be tied to is up in the air. As the creepy bad guys start showing themselves Calista must uncover her past and decipher just how she is connected to the evil brewing in Lunaris.
Savage and Calista still continue to be my favorite couple. Although GK is edging us to within an inch of our lives with this almost forbidden, slow burn romance we have brewing. I do love how Calista has grown in her power and the growth Savage is experiencing as he realizes she doesn’t always need his protection.
Overall the series continues to be a fave and after that crazy cliffhanger I am feral to have book 3 in my hands.
Book 1 was intriguing enough to make me dive straight into Book 2, despite some reservations about the FMC, Calista, who I hadn’t warmed to.
Unfortunately, those reservations were realised in Book 2. I suspect Calista is intended to be a kick-ass heroine, but I found her exceptionally frustrating. Her stubbornness, impulsiveness and tendency to act without considering the consequences made her come across as immature, selfish and unnecessarily contrary. I also struggled with her hypocrisy and double standards. I appreciate that she’s meant to be a strong-willed character, but for me, there is a fine line between feisty and downright infuriating, and she stomped all over that line!.
Thorne was a character I wanted to like, but his willingness to continually indulge Calista and pander to her, was disappointing. It undermined the image of the strong, savage king the story had established, making him seem less formidable than he should have been.
The story itself had some intriguing elements, though I got tired of deadly trials, the constant drama and the endless obstacles keeping the main characters apart. The cliffhanger certainly wasn’t surprising.
Ultimately, although the series had enough promise to draw me into a second book, it didn’t deliver on that potential. I found this one increasingly hard work to finish, so I won’t be continuing with the series.
Throne of Moonlight and Malice picks up right where the last book left us hanging. The story keeps the excitement going with nonstop trials, kidnappings, rescues, and battles all the way to the final page. My heart was racing and only just settled down. After all that I need the next book now.
The way I am IRREFUTABLY addicted to Calista and Savage is honestly worrisome. I literally love them SO MUCH! Two absolutely dynamic, strong-willed warriors with the softest little hearts, thrown into the worst possible situations when all they’re trying to do is… well, you know… CONNECT. The lies, the betrayal, THE UTTER DEVOTION AND UNDYING LOYALTY between Cali and Savage?! EVERYTHING. This is exactly what I look for in a series. I just want to see these two get a dang break already! I NEED that HEA soooo bad!
And SAVAGE?! 🥵🔥 Listen, this man is the ULTIMATE BOOK BOYFRIEND AND WOLF SHIFTER DADDDDY. The protectiveness? The commitment? The restraint?! I AM UNWELL.
In true G.K. DeRosa fashion, this book ends on a BRUTAL cliffhanger! BUT there’s a beautiful emotional payoff that makes me willing to forgive the absolute brutality of that ending (for now) and wait as patiently as humanly possible for book 3. Emphasis on try, because WHAT DO YOU MEAN I HAVE TO WAIT?!
I genuinely never want this world to end. I already know I’m going to miss these characters SO MUCH when their story finally comes to a conclusion. They’ve completely stolen my heart, and I am not ready to give them up. For now, I’ll just be over here pouting and counting down the days until I get to see Cali and Savage again.
When last we left Calista and Thorne, things were going to hell in spectacular fashion. Thorne’s brother had crashed a rather important ceremony, Calista was still desperately searching for answers that could help her people, and Thorne was unconscious. Nothing says a promising future together like political upheaval, near-disaster, and a man who is temporarily unavailable for comment.
With Thorne out of commission, Calista takes matters into her own hands and makes a decision that apparently turns out to be the wrong one. At least according to Thorne, once he wakes up and discovers he has opinions. Sir, you were unconscious. Perhaps a little gratitude for the woman keeping things from completely imploding would be appropriate? Just a thought. Meanwhile, Caelan arrives with a rather tempting proposition: if he wins the challenge for the kingdom against his brother, he’ll make Calista an offer she might find difficult to refuse. His brother, incidentally, only became King because he thought Caelan was dead. Honestly, this family needs less crown-related drama and considerably more group therapy.
And Caelan? Oh, he has been busy. In the time it takes most people to make a cup of tea, this man has managed to wedge himself between Calista and Thorne with the efficiency of a professional demolition crew. He knows exactly where Calista’s insecurities lie and has no problem exploiting them, particularly her fear that she isn’t whole enough - or worthy enough - to be Thorne’s mate. Because apparently, when you’re a dark, ambitious royal with a kingdom to win, emotional manipulation is just another item on the to-do list. I will give him this: he understands the assignment. Unfortunately, the assignment is making everyone’s lives more complicated.
Then illness strikes, because clearly this story hadn’t accumulated enough problems to qualify for its own emergency management department. Calista and her sister must investigate the cause, and their research leads them to a possible solution for the increasingly awkward question of who should rule the kingdom. Naturally, the answer involves more trials. Because, of course it does. We cannot simply communicate, make a sensible decision, and move forward. We must endure a series of potentially life-threatening challenges first. At this point,
Just when the trials and royal shenanigans threaten to exhaust my last remaining brain cell, Calista’s mother goes missing. And because Thorne wasn’t able to protect her, we have another emotional catastrophe to add to the ever-growing pile. Off they go in search of answers, only to return with - you guessed it - more questions. The plot moves forward, revelations are dangled tantalizingly out of reach, and I’m left wondering whether anyone in this kingdom has ever successfully completed a task without accidentally triggering additional disasters.
By the end, things appear to be settling down. Key word: appear. Because this is romantasy, and peace is a prohibited condition before the final book. Some things get resolved, but the larger situation remains decidedly unsettled. I understand the need to set up the next instalment, truly I do. But there’s a difference between a compelling cliffhanger and feeling like the author has just rearranged the problems on the table and told us to come back in March for the next round. I’m willing to play along, but I reserve the right to be mildly suspicious of everyone involved.
And then there’s Calista and Thorne. The slow burn. The agonizingly prolonged slow burn. We are now TWO BOOKS into this relationship, and I am running out of patience, oxygen, and charitable interpretations of the word “slow.” I love a good slow burn. Give me yearning, give me banter, give me the kind of tension that makes me want to throw my Kindle across the room and then immediately retrieve it because I need to know what happens next. But eventually, someone needs to light the damn fire. We have spent two whole books circling the emotional equivalent of a locked door, and I need book three to stop rattling the doorknob and actually let somebody inside. I need payoff. I need progress. I need these two to get their crap together.
So here I am, torn. I’ve invested enough time in this series that I’d like to see where it goes, but some of the developments are starting to feel predictable, and my ever-growing TBR pile is not exactly sitting around twiddling its thumbs. When the next book arrives in March, I might pick it up if the romantasy gods align and I happen to be looking for something to read. I’m not rushing to preorder it, though. This series still has potential, but potential is a very dangerous thing to keep promising a reader who has already given you two books’ worth of patience. Book three, darling, the clock is ticking. Deliver the romance, surprise me with something I didn’t see coming, and for the love of all things magical, let somebody in this family have a normal Tuesday.
End note: “Sometimes giving up is the strong thing,” I whisper into the void because a slow burn should ignite eventually. It's not supposed to become a historical preservation project.
So much happened in this second installment of the highly packed Wolvryn Courts series! Thorne and Calista...their growth, their love, their moments alone. Everything was wow, wow, wow! I couldn't set Throne of Moonlight and Malice down once I started and I don't regret it for a single moment!!
Throne of Moonlight and Malice begins right where everything was crumbling down around Thorne, the Savage King, and Calista, the Moon Crowned Queen and their bonding ceremony in book one. Thorne's brother has suddenly returned from the dead and Caelen challenges everything that Thorne has fought for. His kingdom, his people, and his queen are in jeopardy while his brother basically has a pissing match and offers up no answers as to where he's been and why he didn't reappear sooner. It's sus for sure and I kept waiting for something to happen, like an aha moment, but Thorne couldn't brush off the fact that Caelen is his brother, the man who was by his side his entire childhood. The flashbacks to those moments are powerful and made me like the guy. Dang it, but I was still sus.😐😆
On top of the challenges between brothers, which will decide who wears the crown, there is an old foe that returns and causes chaos which brings about an adventurous road trip, one that brings Throne and Calista closer together and also causes tension between these two. Their chemistry is thick and never breaks. Their time together bundled close under dark skies only stirs that heat, especially since they aren't allowed to consummate their bond yet. Not until the king is crowned and the right brother wears the crown. Whew...so much thick tension and angst and it never stopped!!!! Oh, I love all the- will they, won't they moments....so, friggin good!!!!😍
With everything that happened, so many intense challenges, it felt like months should have gone by for Thorne and Calista, but like I said, it was intense with high stakes and everything happened so quickly that each time the timeline was mentioned I know my mouth dropped wide open. Whew...these characters go through it!!
The plot is so well written and I lost myself in this world so easily, which I totally loved. I want to re-read this entire series all over again just to enjoy every moment to its fullest and I don't say that often about books. Oh, there is also a whopper of an ending to this book and now I can't wait for more of this frosty world.💙
I loved the first book, so continuing with book two was a no-brainer. I was especially excited that this one picked up right where the first left off, and it started STRONG.
However, somewhere along the way, I really struggled with the lack of growth in trust between both characters. The constant mental back-and-forth, withholding information, and inability to just communicate started to feel a little too YA for me. Yes, he lied, but so did she, so why are we spending SO much time going in circles about it? At some point, all the secrets and hesitation started taking away from the actual story rather than adding to it.
And can we talk about the hot-and-cold dynamic? The tension, chemistry, and spice would build up, only to be followed by an immediate emotional freeze-out. One minute we’re getting all that heat, and the next we’re back to distance, distrust, and pulling away. After a while, that push-and-pull started losing its appeal rather than building anticipation. I wanted that tension to develop into something, not keep resetting every time things got good.
That being said, I’m still incredibly intrigued by the world-building. The curse, the magic, the little breadcrumbs being dropped throughout the story… I have so many questions. Nothing quite seems to add up yet, and I’m genuinely curious to see how all these pieces fit together. I’m also still confused about what exactly her power is, which I hope gets explored more in the next book.
The brother banter also felt like it was trying to give Vampire Diaries vibes with the whole good brother/bad brother dynamic, but it just didn’t quite land for me.
AND THAT ENDING?! I’m not even sure what I just read. The Spellbinder made a portal out of a mother and daughter?! For WHAT? WHY? HOW? It was a loop that I’m not sure I truly care to explore? It didn’t seem to fit into this plot at all.
Overall, I’m still invested in the world and want answers, but I needed more character growth, communication, and a little less running in circles. The world-building has me hooked enough to keep going, but I’m hoping book three delivers on some of these unanswered questions!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
“You barged into my binding ceremony, declared me your queen, blew up the temple, and now half the fleet meant to protect my home is burning.” I stepped closer. “I think we've passed the point where you get to decide what concerns me.”
What can I say about this book I have been waiting since the first book for this to come out so that I can get off the cliff that Genevieve left me on with the first one. But well that didn't happen and honestly that shouldn't surprise me as much as it did. Just when I thought the book was gonna give me that happy "ending" the characters needed there she went again throwing me off another damn cliff.
This book brings us to where the long lost brother has returned the temple has exploded and savage is unconscious after saving calista.
Poor calista has no choice but to try and rule in savages place until he awakes but caelan has decided he wants the crown and savage won't destroy his brother who he thought was gone. So calista and her sister must find a way to save the kingdom and savage so of course we have more trials.
But when Calistas mother is kidnapped we all know our fave fmc ain't gonna sit around and wait to find her or that savage won't be there to protect her.
Once you start this book you can't put it down and the damn tension between these two give slow burns a bad name cause we just want the happy ending already lol.
This book is filled with so much action that I couldnt put it down. It picks up right where book 1 left off and we get even more things to process.
Calista survived & won the Blood Hunt but now Savage is being challenged for his crown by his long-lost dead brother. There’s something stirring beneath Calista’s skin and apparently, there’s lunar rage to deal with now too. Plus the tension in this book could cut stone.
I love getting the flashbacks of Savage and his brother and the interactions between Savage and his inner circle. I even started liking some of the other Alphas.
Calista is such a badass FMC. She’s a little reckless but the way she doesn’t let a man decide her worth is the best part about her. And Savage. That man is everything. The way he yearns for his mate and the lengths he would go to protect her are impossible to beat.
Favorite Quote: “He would die for you and kill for you in the same breath.”
This book was kindly gifted to me by the author as an ARC. My thoughts and review are completely my own.
Well, I do love it when the 2nd book is better than the first one and goodness, G.K DeRose did not disappoint with book 2!
The yearning, the slowwww burn, the pain, the grief, the emotions! Holy moly it just gets better!
We get to experience a lot more of the different courts in Lunaris as well as finding out what happened after the cliffhanger from book 1. Book 2 does also end in a cliffhanger of course! But I am so excited for book 3!
The character arcs between Calista and Saverest (hehe) go so much deeper in Throne of Moonlight and Malice with learning more about Caelen, Savage's brother and how Tarrik is involved. We get to delve into Calista's past a bit more and watch her realise who she is and who can be.
There is so much going on towards the end of the book that I just cannot wait for the next installment in The Wolvryn Courts series!
Throne of Moonlight and Malice by GK DeRosa is the second book in The Wolvryn Courts series. I absolutely loved this book! But let's be honest, the dynamic between Calista and Savage was my favorite part! 😍 These two together are just EVERYTHING. I loved their interactions and the chemistry between them. Savage definitely made this book even better for me! ❤️🔥, yes, yes, I know. He belongs to Calista *sigh* The story kept me interested the whole way through, and I loved how it kept me wanting to know what was going to happen next. There was never a dull moment, and I found myself wanting to keep reading instead of putting the book down. G.K. DeRosa definitely delivered with this one! Five stars from me, and I already know I'm going to need more Calista and Savage because I'm nowhere near ready to let these two go! 🥹❤️
Calista and the Savage King face perils both known and unknown as their saga continues. For me, this is another winner from GK DeRosa. The story picks up at the previous book’s cliffhanger: Calista and the Savage King are preparing for the final ceremony when an unexpected ambush interrupts their plans. Now they must rebuild their bond and overcome the dangers ahead. DeRosa’s witty dialogue, vivid landscapes, and realistic, engaging characters kept me absorbed in the story. It was all too easy to lose myself in the book—and lose sleep along the way. For readers looking for a new series, this one is a winner—but start with the earlier installments, since this book picks up at a cliffhanger. I expect another major plot twist in the next installment.
Why did life have to be so much this last week! All I wanted to do was read this book!!
Book two starts off right where book one leaves off and all I have to say is hold on! So much is happens for Throne and Cali in this book!
New characters are introduced and I loved most of them. Some well explain themself, why they are just not liked and answer some giant questions leaving my mind blown.
The fight for the crown is just one of the biggest battles in this book these two have to overcome and the end well let’s just say I’m not ready to discuss that ending yet!
I absolutely loved this book. Highly recommend! You must read the first book to understand this one but you won’t regret it! 🖤
We pick up right where the last book left off. Calista remains upset with Thorne because he lies to her and keeps things hidden—and that’s how we spend most of the book. His brother refuses to renounce the crown, so—once again—we have a tournament. Can’t they resolve their problems any other way? At least this time there’s some downtime, allowing for progress on other fronts. Their mother is kidnapped, and we finally learn about their past—including why Calista possesses magic and why her mother is in her current state. Nothing of consequence comes from the tournament, and Thorne remains king. In the end, they confess their love for each other, but they don’t consummate their marriage—and, to make matters worse, they end up separated once again!
Callista and Savage are so much fun to follow. The desire there and the heated scenes that don’t cross that final line are 🔥🔥
I love Callista trying to learn about what happened in her past and what she can do now. There is so much we saw and so many aspects we have yet to see about who/what she is.
I like the glimpse of Savage’s trusted court members. They seem like fun characters and I want to see more of them later.
Then there are the brothers fighting for the crown. I was poised to hate Caelen after last book but the more the book went on the more I felt differently. I love the bond between brothers and how there’s so much there outside of just the rage Caelen is feeling.
Now that ending…. Could we actually get a book that ended all “and now we are happy and we will leave it like that until the next one” Haha nope. I need more from this story asap.
All the wolf court politics. All the secrecy and betrayal. All the family dynamics. All the tension. This protective alpha wolf shifter series brings these and so much more, and I am here for every single word of it. An intriguing storyline with trials and action along the way. I was completely invested in the characters and the storyline. The cliffhanger ending has me hooked for what's to come.
"Now, I know I was never meant to remain small enough for Hollowcrest."
We pick up immediately after the disastrous end of book one, and the fight is far from over. Savage and Calista are once again forced to face danger to protect what matters most. For Calista it’s her family and her home, and for Savage, it’s his people, his crown, and her.
We get plenty of twists in this one, as it’s clear no one is as they first seem. But as the real enemy is brought to light, adversaries become allies as a much bigger threat looms over them all.
Trust is key in book two, and something both Savage and Calista struggle with. Each hiding a part of themselves from the other in the name of protection. Yet, when secrets are laid bare, the love and devotion between them shines through, and is ultimately what saves them in the end.
And once again we are left with a massive cliffhanger as we await the next book in the series. And by the title alone, I know we are in for plenty more heartache and ruin before the end.
An incredible book two. Calista and Savage have more obstacles to overcome all while dealing with the court politics. There’s so much action, it was hard to put this down as I just wanted to keep reading to find out what happened next. Twists, betrayals, the tension and slow burn had me hooked.
I enjoyed learning more about Calista’s past and what’s she’s possibly capable of. I love how strong she is and how she’ll fight for her people no matter what. Savage is still a powerful force, protective and we see a softer side to him that had me swooning.
The ending and cliffhanger has me begging to find out how everything will all end
Book 2 of The Wolvryn Courts, Throne of Moonlight and Malice by @gkderosa did not disappoint!!!
I love Savage and Calista's story... the more detailed side characters and backstories are making this book even more enjoyable and so worth the read!!
The yearning, the mystery, the power, political intrigue, this book has it all and I cannot wait to read more.....especially with the brutal cliffhanger!!
I love this series, and couldn't put it down. I was very distraught when I read the first book and realized it wasn't a standalone and that I would have to wait for the second book to come out. I tore through the second book in a little more than 24 hours, and am now in the same position, waiting on the third book. I highly recommend this series if you like slow-burn romance with lots of yearning!
I thoroughly enjoyed this PNR romance with drama, surprises, action, adventure, wonderful world-building, chemistry, and steam. There is much to learn about the various alphas, their politics, a mystery illness, and a challenge to the MCs HEA. The MCs are defined, strong warriors, loving, protective, and engaging. I voluntarily read an ARC and this is my honest review.
This book is in.SANE!!! I spent most of my time reading chewing off my finger nails in anticipation of what was going to happen. The situation between Calista and Savage seems to be precarious but you can feel the emotion and affection they have for each other. The outside influences are working against these two and it seems relentless. I can’t wait for the next installment!
This was just as good as the first book. A well-written story that I did not want to put down. The character building is excellent. The tension between the MCs is perfection. I would love to see a little more world-building, but that’s just a personal preference and does not remove from the quality of the story.
This book. Leaves you hanging onto the edge of your seat. Calista and Thorne are just so sweet, As they navigate through trials that the world throws at them,
I cant wait for book 3. It left me wanting more, the way its written flowed beautifully its amazing deffiantly a must read ❤️
As usual, GK keep us on the edge with her books. I was never sure if I wanted to throw the book, giggle or screamed through the entire read ! It is full of action, mystery and magic and won't leave you time to breath ! Calista is so strong and bite back and I love it !
The way I dove into this book as soon as I knew it was out! It picks up right were book one left off - people aren’t who they seem, and Calista is left reeling.
In this installment, Calista and the Savage King have chosen each other, but every time they turn around, something is happening. In fact, the Savage King’s brother is back, seemingly back from the dead. It seems as though Caelen is really up to no good, but as things unfold and we see flashbacks, it’s hard not to feel for Caelen and what he’s been through.
I love Calista’s strong attitude, and I also love seeing Savage’s character grow through this story as he realizes because Calista is so strong she doesn’t always need to be rescued and protected. She can do that on her own a bit.
I can’t wait to read more from Calista and Savage’s world! Come on, book 3!
This book continues to build on the incredible world building from the first, while being action packed and a bit more spice. I really enjoyed seeing their relationship grow, I can't wait for the next one.
I don’t know why this series isn’t recommended more. If you’re looking for something like The Wolf King series - this could be a good option. Looking forward to seeing how this evolves, and glad that it’s only 3 books! Great 2nd book in the series, highly recommend!
Be swept away in the amazing currents of emotion. You want it to finish, because you must have answers. You want it to go on because it is intriguing. You want a victory, but not at any cost.
