Ever wonder why you hear about so many people getting hit by trucks? Yeah. That’s me. My name is Max. State Trooper by day, and Endr by night. I work for the Bureau of Afterlife Dispatch. It’s my job to send the chosen into the next realm to serve their calling. The Endr App gives me a route, a set of rules, and a fare I’m not allowed to refuse. The rules are take the job, don’t interfere with other drivers, and don’t get caught. Every run makes me stronger. Every level earns me a bigger vehicle, built to survive things the city pretends don’t exist. But something’s wrong at the Bureau. Assignments don’t line up. Other Endrs are pushing boundaries. And some fares fight back harder than they should. Weird shit is happening. I may be new to this world, but I will figure out what is going on. And if you get in my way, you can Get Trucked!
The Longwinded One is a LitRPG and fantasy author and podcaster. He writes the Four Treasures Saga, a progression fantasy series rooted in Celtic mythology, and Get Trucked, a modern LitRPG set in Boston. His podcast, now in its sixth season, which currently focuses on LitRPG author interviews, spoiler-heavy discussions, and deep dives into genre mechanics.
Get Trucked was a fun, hilarious LitRPG road trip with plenty of absurd moments, entertaining characters, and a premise that kept me turning the pages. For most of the book, I was along for the ride and enjoying the chaos.
Unfortunately, the ending didn’t quite work for me. The story suddenly shifts into something much darker and more mysterious, introducing major revelations and questions about the world that felt underdeveloped. Certain characters fate, the hints surrounding the dispatcher, and the introduction of larger supernatural elements left me more confused than intrigued.
I don’t mind a shocking ending, but this one felt abrupt and raised more questions than it answered. Overall, I enjoyed the journey more than the destination, but I’m still curious enough to see where the story goes next.
I enjoyed the author's other (Celtic LitRPG), so thought I'd give this one a whirl, and WHEW. What a ride! Main character Max is just finishing up his training to become a MA state trooper when he gets a terminal diagnosis. Luck and happenstance put him in a position where he can become a sort of Uber for isekai...he literally runs people over, sending them through a portal to another world or dimension. The chapters are short and punchy, making the book a fun, fast read. Lots of great side characters, and just enough humor to keep things from getting too heavy. All in all, one I was surprised by and would definitely recommend!
PS The upgrades, both cars and weapons, are a treat (really,†just inspired). AND DON'T EVEN WITH THAT ENDING...
Max is a State Trooper with a very unusual side job. He is a newly hired ENDR. They are responsible for driving the vehicles that knock people into another dimension. Both he and his vehicle gets stronger with each fare.
This was a crazy LitRPG! It is fun to meet some of the people who drive truck-kun! I really want to know if the fares are nods to other Isekai series. It’s really interesting to see how he levels up. Jonathan McCLain does a fantastic job with the narration!
Content Warning: language, fade to black sex, one very intense fare.
