Beautiful Things Obey

Rate this book
Three authors. Two morally grey characters. One deadly world.

In the silence of the morgue, she fixes what violence ruins. Bullet wounds disappear beneath careful stitching. Evidence vanishes. Secrets are buried with the dead. Every crew in the city relies on her.

All except one.

The largest. The most powerful. The one even other criminals fear.

She has spent years avoiding them.

Until the night their leader walks through her doors.

He does not shout. He does not threaten. He simply watches her work, calm, immaculate, disturbingly intrigued. When he tells her she will be working for him from now on, it sounds less like a request and more like fate closing in.

She refuses.

He returns.

Again.
And again.
And again.

The more she resists, the more fascinated he becomes. He calls her extraordinary. Says her talent is wasted on small men with smaller ambitions. Says beautiful things belong in powerful hands.

He thinks she will bend.

He has no idea she has been surrounded by monsters her entire life and survived them all.

Written consecutively by three authors meaning every twist, betrayal, and obsession forced the next writer deeper into the dark.

Some blurbs quietly pique my interest. This one kicked the door down.

A forensic mortician who secretly repairs and buries the dead for the city's criminal underworld? A powerful mafia boss who becomes obsessed with recruiting her? I thought this was about to become one of those books I obnoxiously recommend to everyone with the words - "Just trust me".

Instead, I ended up with a genuinely fascinating mafia mystery, a romance that took its sweet time finding its emotional footing and a final stretch that reminded me why I kept turning the pages.

What worked for me
(aka: the reason this didn't end up with a lower rating)

A premise that deserved my immediate attention

This is easily one of the freshest mafia romance concepts I've read in a while. Leonore's profession wasn't just there for aesthetics either - it was woven into the plot, the politics of the underworld and her relationships with the different crime families. Watching her navigate the criminal world as someone everyone needed but no one truly owned was incredibly compelling.

The mystery stole the show

Ironically, I found myself far more invested in the mafia mystery than the romance for a large portion of the book.

Leonore's hidden past, the stolen identity, the body thefts and the shifting mafia politics had me constantly wanting answers. Every time the story leaned into those elements, my interest shot right back up.

Konstantin also made for a genuinely threatening villain. He felt intelligent, calculated and dangerous enough that I never questioned why everyone feared him.

The final quarter finally gave me the romance I'd been waiting for

Once the emotional walls started coming down, everything clicked.

The conversations. The vulnerability. The trust that had been missing for so much of the book. The quiet moments where Silas stopped trying to conquer Leonore and simply sat with her pain. Those chapters completely changed how I felt about their relationship.

By the end, I absolutely believed these two belonged together.

I just wish I'd believed it sooner.

Where it lost me
(aka: why this wasn't a four-star read)

I needed feelings, not just fireworks

For a long stretch, the romance felt like it was running on the same loop.

Silas is obsessed. Leonore tells him to leave her alone. They have explosive chemistry. Repeat.

The sexual tension was never the issue. It was fantastic.

The problem was that the emotional relationship didn't seem to evolve alongside it. I kept waiting for the conversations that would make me understand why these two needed each other beyond attraction and those moments didn't really arrive until well over halfway through the book.

I wanted to know these characters much earlier

Leonore became infinitely more compelling once we finally learned her past. Suddenly her walls, her stubbornness and her refusal to surrender control all made perfect sense.

Silas also became so much more interesting once we saw him with his sister, niece and away from Leonore. Those quieter domestic moments humanised him in ways that endless internal monologues about being obsessed simply couldn't.

Unfortunately, a lot of that characterisation came so late that I spent much of the first half admiring the characters more than truly connecting with them.

The romance kept circling before it finally moved

There were several points where it felt like the relationship kept revisiting the same emotional beat with different dialogue.

Every time I thought we'd reached a turning point, we'd reset back to the push-pull dynamic before eventually arriving at the emotional progression I had been waiting for all along.

Once it got there, I loved it.

I just wish the journey had trusted those emotional moments sooner instead of relying so heavily on physical chemistry to carry the relationship.

Final thoughts

This is one of those books where the ending genuinely elevated my overall enjoyment.

The premise is incredibly original, the mystery kept me hooked and the final stretch delivered the emotional vulnerability I'd been craving from the beginning. By the time I reached the last chapters, I finally understood both Leonore and Silas - and that's exactly what I'd been waiting for since the beginning.

If the emotional character work from the final third had been woven throughout the first half, this easily could have been a four star read for me.

Instead, it's a very solid 3.5 stars - a book with a brilliant concept, an engaging mystery and a romance that eventually found its heart after taking the scenic route.

Final verdict

The premise carried.
The mystery delivered.
The romance finally got the memo.

Turns out her best career move wasn't the mortuary....it was the networking.

LinkedIn could never.

Three of my favourite authors coming together to write one book? Well I absolutely here for it and Leonore and Silas’s story certainly did not disappoint, that’s for sure.

Now our FMC is Leonore is a mortician for the families of the underworld when they need to keep things discrete, so she is more or less a neutral player in this world as she doesn’t care as long as she gets what she is owed. Leonore is simply just a straight up Queen if I’m honest, I absolutely loved her. She was sassy, feisty and she is certainly not a woman to withhold her feelings especially when it comes to a mafia boss by the name of Silas Vescari.

And you might be wondering how their paths cross? Well Silas’s uncle was unalived and brought straight to Leonore but when word got out Silas came straight to her door demanding he be returned so his family can grieve and give a proper burial. But a complication is thrown into the mix when the body goes missing without a trace and now Silas has more or less demanded Leonore’s help to assist him on retrieving it.

While these two embark on their journey (a reluctant journey for Leonore) Silas makes it quite known through this book that he is very interested in pursuing her. Leonore is a woman who keeps her head down and she rejects his advances and flattery in many cases in this book which was quite hilarious but Silas is a persistent guy.

The reason Leonore tries to keep to herself more or less is she is running from a past that eventually does catch up to her after becoming involved in Silas’s world. But the moment this occurs ever so protective Silas vows that no harm will ever come to her as long as he breathes. Leonore is definitely a woman who can look after herself and you would definitely not want to get on her bad side, but Silas offers his protection nonetheless as by this point he has accepted that he is obsessed with this woman and wants a future standing by her side.

I loved the dynamic of these two and I didn’t want the story to end. I do hope these authors will explore more of this world and write together again.👏🏼

Thank you to the authors who provided this e-arc for my honest thoughts 💭

This was just phenomenal. It’s more of a light dark romance but man does it have so much action! Each one of these authors knows how to keep you intrigued. I absolutely adore both main characters. I never would have guessed Leonore’s backstory and it was so intriguing to see it all come together and why she hadn’t let anyone close to her before Silas. I loved the where her past came back to haunt her and I could have devoured more pages on it, I almost wish that he had gotten her toward the front door or she stabbed him instead of what actually happened but it does make sense for Leonore’s past to be wrapped up more quickly to look for the future. Also can I just say she is a total baddie and used Silas for her own pleasure throughout this and I loved it. She’s a queen!

Beautiful Things Obey, by TL Smith, Penny Dee, and Kia Carrington-Russell, is scheduled for release on July 9th.
This is my first read by TL Smith and Kia Carrington-Russell, and I absolutely love everything by Penny Dee. This was a phenomenal dark romance that had me laughing at what the main characters said/thought. This read includes tropes such as alpha MMC, bad-ass MFC, he falls first, obsession, stalking, stolen identity, touch her and ☠️.

I received an Advance Reader Copy (ARC) of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions expressed are my own and were not influenced by the author or publisher.

As this was a pre-release edition, some content may differ from the final published version.

I COULD NOT HAVE BEEN MORE EXCITED FOR ANOTHER collab between T.L. Smith and Kia Carrington-Russell! Of course, we had our introduction to Penny Dee, and ALL I WILL SAY is that these three authors WORK WELL TOGETHER!

Working with the dead, Dr. Leonore Graves has SEEN AND DEALT WITH SOME SHIT. Until one day, while working at the morgue, one of the most notorious crime leaders is looking for answers. Using his charm, Silas Vescari is determined to find what he is looking for, only if a certain mortician wouldn’t refuse him. With the nickname that is ABSOLUTELY WARRANTED, Leonore is SUCH A BAD ASS BITCH! OH MY GOD! I LOVED HER! She took no shit FROM NO ONE LITERALLY and I REALLY ENJOYED everything about her character! Even if he seemed like a broody grump on the outside, I KNEW SILAS WAS A CUTIE PIE! Especially for those he cares about and would DO ANYTHING FOR to protect them. Seeing the small vulnerable sides to him made my HEART WARM! The relationship between Leonore and Silas was COMICAL, AND WITTY, HAVING A SPRINKLE OF INTENSE PUSH AND PULL with DEFINITELY HAVING TO MENTION the FIERY SPICE! The chemistry between them was FLAMING HOT!

Not knowing what was going to happen next, THOSE PLOT TWISTS CAME THROUGH AND HOLY SHIT! I was NOT expecting that! Larissa was JUST A SWEETIE and she was TOO ADORABLE! I did have some mixed feelings about Nessa HOWEVER! I did feel like she redeemed herself in the end FOR SURE. Even though we had a small glimpse of them, I really liked the vibe from Valen and Gia and I hope MAYBE we can see them again in the future! Overall, I REALLY ENJOYED this book, and I can’t wait for what’s next!

The leads were not particularly interesting and they had no chemistry. Silas was like any generic mafia character that could be written. The story drug on for really no reason. I was tired by the end.

Beautiful Things Obey by T.L. Smith, Penny Dee, and Kia Carrington-Russell hooked me from the very first page and never loosened its grip. Dark, twisted, deliciously gruesome, and dripping with tension—I absolutely devoured this book.

🖤 Dark Romance
🖤 Mafia Romance
🖤 Strong FMC
🖤 Obsessive / Possessive MMC
🖤 Secret Identities
🖤 Touch Her and Die
🖤 Morally Grey Characters
🖤 Slow Burn Obsession

The opening chapter immediately pulled me in.

And from that moment, I couldn't put the book down.

One of my favourite aspects of this story was the world-building. Rather than focusing on a single mafia family, the authors created an entire criminal underworld where multiple families coexist, each serving their own purpose within the city. It made the world feel alive and constantly shifting as alliances, secrets, and rivalries unfolded.

✮⋆˙ 𝐋𝐞𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐫𝐞

Leonore was an incredible heroine. She refuses to be intimidated, even when surrounded by some of the most dangerous men imaginable. Sharp-tongued, fiercely independent, and wonderfully stubborn, she goes toe-to-toe with people far more powerful than herself without ever backing down. She sets firm boundaries and demands respect.

At least...

...until Silas begins dismantling those walls brick by brick.

✮⋆˙ 𝐒𝐢𝐥𝐚𝐬 𝐕𝐞𝐬𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐢

Silas completely stole this book for me.

He walks into every room already in control. Wealth, power, confidence—it practically radiates from him. Yet beneath all of that authority was a man who fascinated me. His internal monologues were surprisingly witty, a little cheeky, and often had me smiling despite how dark the story could become.

Once Silas decides someone belongs to him...

There really isn't another option.

His persistence, unwavering loyalty to his family, and relentless pursuit of Leonore made him impossible not to love. Honestly, I could have happily read another thousand pages with this man.

The chemistry between Leonore and Silas was addictive. Their banter was razor-sharp, their power struggles were endlessly entertaining, and every interaction seemed to build another layer of anticipation. The spice landed exactly where it needed to—passionate, exciting, and perfectly suited to their dynamic.

The mystery woven throughout the novel kept me hooked just as much as the romance. Hidden identities, long-buried secrets, and revelations from the past constantly shifted the story in unexpected directions. Just when I thought I had everything figured out, another twist would pull the rug out from under me.

I was also pleasantly surprised to discover this was written by three authors. Multi-author books have always made me a little hesitant, but you genuinely couldn't tell where one author's voice ended and another began. The writing flowed seamlessly, the pacing never faltered, and every chapter felt perfectly balanced. It was an incredibly impressive collaboration.

Overall, Beautiful Things Obey was an addictive blend of dark romance, mafia politics, mystery, and obsession. I flew through it in three days and never once wanted to put it down. Between the unforgettable characters, gripping plot, brilliant banter, and deliciously dark atmosphere, this easily became one of my favourite mafia romances of the year.

Thank you to the authors for the ARC and the opportunity to read and review this book.

🔥Dual First Person POV

In the Boston Underworld, if you need evidence to disappear and the body to tell the story you want, you go to Lenore Graves. Nicknamed the Grim Reaper,
she’s made a name for herself as the mortician for the families of the underworld. Well, three of the four families. Leo is the boss of her domain and takes her work seriously. She believes everyone deserves a proper burial and for their families to be able to grieve. She knows how to be discreet and acting as a neutral party she doesn’t ask any questions. She also does not reveal anything to the other families. Her quiet and controlled world gets flipped upside down when the Don of the most powerful family in the city enters her lab demanding answers. Silas Viscari has never needed her services and she’s avoided working with his family. The more Leo refuses to work for Silas, the more he wants her. Silas loves how unimpressed she is with him and his offers. He keeps showing up at her work and when she’s out, because he’s captivated and wants to learn her secrets. What started out as Silas needing Leo to find his uncle quickly turns into an obsession. The magnetic chemistry between these two burns up the pages, or the kindle in my case. Leo is a special character, she lives up to her nickname, and isn’t afraid to go toe to toe with these men. She’s fiercely protective and can back it up. Silas is a broody grump and is used to everyone doing what he says. They are equally stubborn and headstrong creating an addictive push and pull. These two morally grey characters go absolutely feral for each other. Leo slowly began to trust Silas, she showed him her vulnerable side and revealed her secrets. I loved how Leo’s surprising backstory influenced how she hid in plain sight, behind the bodies where she felt the most at ease. This is action packed, filled with undeniable fiery chemistry, and a plot that had me hooked from the start.

"Beautiful Things Obey"

by Kia Carrington-Russell & Penny Dee & T.L Smith

This book is a breath of fresh air. Directly from hell, sure, but still so refreshing in many aspects:

🪦written by 3 female authors;
🪦it is so funny in all the darkness it contains;
🪦the FMC is a mortician;
🪦the MMC is, hands down, one of the best heads of the Mafia I have ever read.

Leonore Graves is a beautiful, fierce, sassy, badass mortician who takes care of the dead from the Mafia families in town.
Silas Vescary is the recent head of the Vescary Mafia family, after is uncle just died, and carries a ruthless reputation with him.

When Silas finally meets her, he is immediately attracted to her and to how unimpressed with him she appears. He can't resist her and starts to stalk her in her morgue. Because he can't get away from her and the darkness that surrounds her and her mind and her life.

When they finally give in to their mutual desire, they both start craving each other with desperation.

But then, the darkness darkens, and nothing is what seems to be.
The plot twist was so good to read.
The darkness is delicious.
The banter is so smartly written.
The spicy scenes are... hot as 🔥🔥🔥

Check your TW: there is 🔥, and 🩸, and ❗️, and 🗡️, and 🖤.

I absolutely loved it and I am adding to my favorites.

Releasing July 9.

p.s.: I hope these authors get together again to write the story of Sila's sister, Gia, and the mystery that surrounds her.

Thank you to the 3 authors for this incredible ARC.

some of my favorite quotes:

What they don't tell you is how he seems to suck in the darkness of the room.

🪦
I don't like how closely this man looks, as if into my soul.
🪦
I've looked the real devil in the face, and he doesn't have impressive cheekbones and a sexy pair of full lips like this guy.
🪦
Beautiful things like her should obey. Yet she has a fire that I've never come across before.
🪦
Look at that, the monster's trying to act like a gentleman.
🪦
Here he is, telling me that if I don't work for him, he will dismember me. Romantic, really.
🪦
The devil is working on the minuscule amount of guilt I have.
🪦
"You like death, don't you? he asks. His husky voice makes me shiver, for all the wrong reasons.
🪦
He already knows he looks good. I feel like compliments on his c0ck will just escalate that.
🪦
It's a dark lure where I lie in suspense, wondering if this will end up bloody. My c0ck twitches. A woman after my own heart.
🪦
It turns me on even more. Not just her body, but her peculiar mind.
🪦
I doubt very rarely is this clever woman not thinking about something.
🪦
"Would that be considered romantic?" he asks.
"No, it would be considered stalking."
He shrugs.
"So romantic, then"

Dr. Leonore Graves, better known as the Grim Reaper, is an oddity in the mafia world. She's the one responsible for cleaning up the aftermath of mafia business, keeping her head down and doing her job. Then Silas walks into her morgue. Used to getting whatever he wants, he's immediately intrigued by the one woman who keeps rejecting him over and over again. And the more Leonore pushes him away, the more obsessed he becomes.

So I went in with zero expectations (and trust in the authors cause their track record to entertain is phenomenal), and boyyyy this was SUCH a good read. Not only was the relationship between Leonore and Silas absolutely full with chemistry, but the plot itself had me completely hooked from beginning to end. Their banter was so much fun, the constant push and pull between them was addictive, and I loved that they were both equally stubborn. Watching two incredibly headstrong people constantly clash was entertaining enough, but once they finally started working together they became an absolute power couple. And can we just take a moment to appreciate this world that Kia, Penny, and T.L. have created because it's honestly SO good.

Leonore was everything I wanted in an FMC cause my girl did NOT back down. She wasn't intimidated by Silas for even a second and challenged him every chance she got. In a genre where we so often see heroines having to obey these powerful mafia men, it was so refreshing to have an FMC who could stand toe to toe with him and hold her own. She was smart, capable, and completely unapologetic about who she was, even when her past came crashing down.

“You have my forever.”

And when it came to Silas, boy do I LOVE watching a big scary mafia man get humbled by one woman. He was enigmatic and charming of course but what really got me was seeing the softer side underneath everything. His protectiveness, the way he loved his family so fiercely, and then seeing that love naturally extend as his family grew to include Leonore? Ugh, my heart. And don't even get me started on the way he was with the little ones because that man had the biggest heart hiding underneath all that mafia intimidation.

Honestly, putting Kia Carrington-Russell, T.L. Smith, and Penny Dee together is just unfair. They're already incredible authors individually, but together? They're an absolute powerhouse. The bar was already ridiculously high going into this book, and somehow they still managed to exceed it. And THAT PLOT TWIST WITH LEONORE?! My jaw genuinely dropped.

I really, really hope this isn't the last we've seen of this world because I'm officially hooked. I'd happily read books about Mikhail, Elias, Gia...honestly, everyone. This world has so much potential, and I already can't wait to see what comes next.

Leonore, better known as Grim, is a mortician who works with the four mafia families. When one of Silas's men ends up at her mortuary, he demands answers. The problem? Grim doesn't have any. More importantly, she's built her reputation on discretion. She doesn't play favorites between the families. They pay her well for her services, and that's where she prefers their relationship to end.

Unfortunately for Grim, Silas isn't ready to let her go. She's the only lead he has, and before long, she's become something else entirely: an obsession. If there's one thing dark mafia romances have taught us, it's that you never want to catch the attention of the boss. Grim does exactly that, and suddenly Silas is impossible to shake. Equal parts infuriating and swoon-worthy, especially when he commissions a gift made just for her.

𝘉𝘭𝘰𝘰𝘥 𝘪𝘴 𝘰𝘯 𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘴, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘴𝘩𝘦’𝘴 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘥𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘩.

Like many dark romances, their relationship begins with sharp banter before evolving into a no-strings-attached arrangement. Of course, feelings have a way of sneaking in, and what starts as physical chemistry slowly grows into something much deeper. The tension between them is palpable, and the steam definitely delivers.

❝ 𝐘𝐨𝐮’𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐰𝐟𝐮𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐚 𝐰𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐰𝐡𝐨 𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐚𝐧 𝐨𝐫𝐠𝐚𝐬𝐦.❞

The authors did a fantastic job keeping the story moving, and I was hooked from beginning to end. That said, I found myself wanting just a little more. I really hope they continue expanding this world because there are several characters I'd love to see get their own books. Valen, Silas's second-in-command, immediately caught my attention, and I'd also love stories for Gia (Silas's sister) and Nessa (Leonore's best friend). That mysterious phone call involving Gia felt like it could be setting something up, and I already have my theories about who she's involved with.

If you enjoy dark romance with a touch of mafia intrigue, a fiercely independent heroine who only softens for her hero, sizzling chemistry, and plenty of tension, this one is definitely worth adding to your TBR.

🌶️🌶️.5/5

I love a good dark romance, and Beautiful Things Obey was exactly what I needed.

I really enjoyed this book. Silas and Leonore were fantastic main characters. Silas is your quintessential mafia king: ridiculously hot, dangerous, obsessive, possessive, and completely unaccustomed to hearing the word “no.” Leonore is a mortician with a side business helping crime families clean up bodies so they don’t look like murder victims, (hey it’s a living 🤷🏼‍♀️) and when these two cross paths, the chemistry is immediate.

Leonore has secrets of her own, but what I loved most about her was how strong she was. She never let Silas intimidate her, stood her ground, and refused to take anyone’s crap. What I appreciated even more was that she was never written as unnecessarily mean. I think some authors struggle to write a strong FMC without making her unlikeable, but Leonore is the perfect example of how to do it right.

Her dynamic with Silas was easily one of my favorite parts of the book. He’s used to everyone falling in line, so Leonore’s constant pushback doesn’t frustrate him, it fascinates him. Their banter is fantastic, and watching the tension between them build was great.

Overall, this has everything I want in a mafia romance. The mafia storyline is engaging without feeling over-the-top, the romance is well developed, the banter is great, the spice delivers, and it’s more of a slow burn than an insta-love story. Plus, there’s no third-act breakup, which is always a huge win for me. I really believed in Silas and Leonore’s connection, and I found myself equally invested in both the romance and the mafia plot.

My only very minor criticism is that I would’ve liked a little more development between the “this is just lust” stage and the “I love you” stage. They spend a good amount of time convincing themselves it’s only physical, and then the emotional shift happens fairly quickly. I would’ve loved a few more sweet moments where you could really see those feelings creeping in before they admitted them. It’s such a small complaint, though, and it didn’t affect my overall rating.

If you’re a fan of dark romance, mafia stories, strong FMCs, and hot, obsessive MMCs, I definitely recommend picking this one up.

🌟Thank you to the authors for the ARC and the opportunity to read and review this book.

4.25stars-BEAUTIFUL THINGS OBEY is a contemporary, adult, dark, erotic, Mafia romance story line co-authored by Penny Dee, TL Smith and Kia Carrington-Russell. This is crime boss Silas Vescari, and mortician Dr. Leonore Graves’s story line.

NOTE: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Leonore and Silas) BEAUTIFUL THINGS OBEY follows the building but acrimonious relationship between our story line couple. Dr. Leonore Graves is the local mortician finds herself doing ‘favors’ for the criminal underworld, often hiding evidence from the authorities or warring factions of the mob. When a body disappears Leonore is confronted by crime boss Silas Vescari, a man who is determined to get what he wants but Leonore is tough, determined and stubborn, having had to rely on herself most of her life but the past has returned, and our heroine is about to run.

The world building focuses on Leonore’s work for the different factions of organized crime. As the bodies mount, the money builds but Leonore is not whom she claims to be. A personal betrayal and a hint of recognition threatens all peace for our story line heroine.

The relationship between Silas and Leonore is tempestuous and aggressive. Leonore is determined to keep everyone at arm’s length but Leonore’s secret is about to reveal a dark and dangerous path, a path of which Silas is going to travel. Declaring himself guardian and protector, Silas is falling for a woman with a target on her back, a woman whose friends are about to become collateral damage. The $ex scenes are erotic and aggressive.

There is a large ensemble cast of questionable, colorful and dangerous secondary and supporting characters. We are introduced to Silas’ right hand man Valen; Leonore’s friends Nessa and Sophie, and her assistant Tori. The requisite evil has many faces.

BEAUTIFUL THINGS OBEY is a story of secrets and lies, power and control, betrayal and vengeance, obsession and madness, family and friendships, acceptance and love. The character driven premise is dark, dramatic, edgy and gritty; the romance is limited but seductive; the characters are determined, desperate and charismatic.

'it was my uncle who added that I never needed to become obsessed with a woman. That I should simply fall in love with a beautiful woman, because beautiful things are meant to obey.'

What do you get when you add 3 amazing authors in a collab? A book that is dark, beautiful, delicious, full of banter and spice and I cant stop thinking about the book, him, her, THEM 🥵

“The only person you’re allowed to fight with is me, and I prefer it in the way of foreplay and in the bedroom. Anyone else who challenges you, I step in instead.”

I was very much enjoying the book, everything about it until...... he falls first and I was even more obsessed with Silas, he's a new favourite because I'm an absolute sucker for a man who falls first and he falls HARD- God damn it. And Silas is doing himself all the favours in the world in this book- he's obsessed, he's possessive, he's never been in love, and doesn't have any cling-on's, he respects family and he's powerful, and not just talking about the weapon in his pants 😉

'Damn her and her fucking sexy attitude of defiance. I think I have found a new unhealthy obsession.'

Now, enough drooling over this man- Leonore- 👏 WHAT AN ABSOLUTE BOMBSHELL- seriously- she is what I love in an FMC. She's strong, independent, she's very black cat energy, she loves strongly- even if its only for few people close to her due to lack of trust and for her safety, but she has killer instinct, she's a bad ass boss bitch- and I could not get enough of her! She's drawn to Silas like a magnet- and there's no way of denying that man of anything when she's the only one he looks at in a room..

“I like it better when you fuck me and don’t talk”

This plot was addictive, I couldn't put it down, it was clever, theres suspense, deception, a small case of a missing body, hidden secrets and identity and blood shed not for the faint hearted- a great well rounded dark mafia romance- definitely worth having a read if you love that ❤️

I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review.

This is the story of Leonore and Silas. She has an interesting job. She takes care of the dead that don't die naturally but are needing return to their families or to disappear. She works for some of the most powerful families in the city. But the most ruthless of them all shows up one night in her place of business. Silas is rich, powerful and a masterpiece made to tempt. And tempt he does. But Leonore is a strong independent woman who is trying to make a life for herself. She doesn't have time to be distracted by a powerful good looking man. But Silas is not one to be told no. He is a man who knows what he wants after all. But, when one of the bodies goes missing that is important to Silas they begin to spend more time together and unravel the mystery of what happened. This also opens up the gate on the secrets that Leonore has been trying her hardest to keep. The past is coming for her. A past she has run from for a while and won't stop until she is out of the picture. Silas, though is not about to let anything happen to his little raven. I have to stop or I will tell you something you don't need to know. There is a lot to unravel in this book. But you are going to love Silas and Leonore. I loved watching her walls slowly come down and her secrets being revealed Silas is a man who loves his family and cares for his men. He has a bigger heart than I think even he knows. But he is ruthless and not about to let anyone not see him that way. This is a book that I really enjoyed reading. And I know some people will think, this book is written by three different authors. But I promise you the flow of it does not feel like you are reading different authors. I don't think I could tell you who was writing what chapter. I have read all these authors separate to this book and loved everything I have read and this one just works and it works well.

Finally, a Mafia Heroine with Brains, Boundaries, and Back-bone! 👑

Verdict: an absolute 5 ⭐️ masterpiece

So, this is what we‘ve got here:

🩸🖋️ A True Badass FMC:

I am a total sucker for badass, unhinged heroines, but they are so hard to find in mafia romance. Most start strong and melt into mud puddles at the first sign of a 🍆, so Leo (Doctor Graves) was incredibly refreshing. She is the perfect mix of cunning, smart, passionate, and stubborn. She has immense integrity, self-respect, and never loses control of her own life. No wonder Silas fell for her hard and fast—I did too! She doesn’t get a personality transplant by the end of the book and the deeper you get to know her, the more you admire her strength and loyalty.

❤️‍🔥💣 A respectful „Alpha-Hole“ that is man enough to play by her rules:

Silas is the perfect match for her. Yes, he is a deranged, stalking alpha hole, but he never tries to control her or take away her choices. He steps up for Leo multiple times without ever fighting her battles against her will. Plus, his crew actually admires and respects him rather than just fearing him.
His revenge spree was the cherry on the top 🍒

📖🌶️ A real plot & meaningful spice

This book actually has a plot! The twists and turns kept me entirely on the edge of my seat. Best of all, the spice actually makes sense where it's placed—it’s not just filler to pump up the page count.

🧑‍🧑‍🧒‍🧒❤️‍🔥 Awesome side characters

The tightness and loyalty in this book were really amazing. I loved Larissa and Ness (okay I was a little mad at her but decided to get over it) as well as Elias, Valen and Gia.

I actually hope that the next books will be about Elias or Gia, or better, them together! 🤩🔥

Thank you so much to Kia, T.L., and Penny for choosing me for this ARC. You absolutely crushed this!

When I heard that three outstanding romance authors had joined forces to write a dark, raw mafia romance, there was never any hesitation—I had to dive straight in. If you’ve already discovered the incredible storytelling of Penny Dee, TL Smith, or Kia Carrington-Russell, then you’re in for something truly special because Beautiful Things Obey gives you three times the talent and three times the intensity.

I absolutely love a strong heroine, and Leonore is one of the fiercest female leads I’ve read in a long time. She has a job that is definitely not for the faint-hearted, spending her nights in the morgue ensuring that the mafia’s victims appear to have died by accident. But when one particular body places her directly in the path of ruthless mafia boss Silas, everything changes.

Silas is a man who isn’t used to hearing the word “no.” No one challenges him… until Leonore. Watching these two collide was one of my favourite parts of the story. Their chemistry crackles from the very beginning, their power struggle is captivating, and as the layers of Leonore’s past are gradually revealed, it becomes clear there’s far more to her than meets the eye.

The three authors blend their writing seamlessly, creating a story that is dark, gritty, emotionally charged, and impossible to put down. The suspense keeps the pages turning, while the sizzling chemistry between Silas and Leonore perfectly balances the darker elements of the plot.

If you love mafia romances with fearless heroines, dangerous anti-heroes, explosive chemistry, and a story that keeps you hooked from beginning to end, then Beautiful Things Obey deserves a place at the top of your TBR.

What to expect:

* 🖤 Dark mafia romance
* 🔥 Enemies-to-lovers vibes
* 💀 Strong, fearless heroine
* 👑 Ruthless mafia boss
* ❤️ Sizzling chemistry
* ⚠️ Twists, secrets, and danger

Phenomenal & Addictive

OH. MY. GOD!!!
Please tell me these authors are going to write another book together!

BEAUTIFUL THINGS OBEY was phenomenal, an absolute masterpiece! Not only was I constantly on the edge of my seat, I was also laughing out loud at the incredible banter, sighing and swooning, and even blushing occasionally. It was violent, tension filled, twisted, thoroughly engaging, spicy, and the slow burn was delicious.

Dr. Leonore Graves was a badass! One of the best heroines I've read about in a long time. She's fiesty, stubborn, fierce and independent. She's a mortician who helps the city's crime families by cleaning up the bodies they deliver to her. Silas Vescari (oh what a man) is the Mafia King, and when he walks into Leo's morgue he is impressed by the fact that she is not intimidated by him and is not afraid to say "no" to him. What begins as a single meeting turns into Silas becoming addicted and the start of an intense cat and mouse game between the two. Silas wants to know everything about Leo, so let's just say stalking is definitely involved. Leo hides a secret though, one which can only bring danger from her past. I loved that Silas's main priority was his family, he would do and did everything for them. The question is, can he keep both his family and Leo safe?

As stated earlier this story was phenomenal. The darkness was divine, the spice was delicious, the banter was witty, sarcastic and brilliantly written. Then there's Leo's plot twist ... I did not see that one coming! The authors promised a dark, addictive, chaotic, twisted and red hot read and they certainly delivered. I can only hope that they collaborate again and bring more stories like this one.

What a treat for readers to have three amazing authors co-write a series. This is the perfect example of why this is so… this story has everything; incredibly interesting characters, just enough darkness—especially the setting, to cater to our thirsty dark souls, some problems that help to keep you on the edge of your seat or make you laugh at times, and a quick pace so you find it hard to put the book down.

Dr Leonore Graves is such an intriguing character, she is a tough cookie to crack when pushed but very loyal to her morgue and its clients. Unlike many people, she prefers to be on her own rather than socialise with other people, her past indicates a trauma but 🤐 no more from me. She is reserved but straightforward and compromise is not a word she accepts. Leonore can be quick with a sarcastic comeback and very feisty, which suits the character of Silas.

Silas Vescari is the one man Leonore doesn’t want to have anything to do with but life doesn’t always give you what you want. The verbal battle between the two is very entertaining, Silas is used to getting what he wants and Leonore is just as determined to keep him at arm's length.

Silas is an extremely determined underworld boss accustomed to dominating everyone around him. So when he meets ‘Grim’ aka Leonore, he gets a rude shock when she doesn’t yield to his demands. It seems to spark an intense interest in her and thus the battle between them continued into the story. He is very protective and even more so with Leonore.

Larissa is a little pip, such a sassy sweetheart who brightens Leonore’s life and is worth mentioning.

These three authors have created a sensational story and I look forward to the next book.

“Beautiful things obey. Only for me. As she is the only woman I will ever lose my control and mind over.”

Beautiful Things Obey is the kind of dark romance that sinks its claws in early and refuses to let go, a deliciously twisted tale seamlessly crafted by a powerhouse trio of authors. Silas and Leonore are magnetic from the start—two slightly feral souls who shouldn’t work together but absolutely do. They’re both a little psycho, a little unhinged, and yet somehow they fit with the kind of inevitability that feels fated.

I adored how fast and hard Silas fell; there’s something intoxicating about a man who decides you’re his and never wavers. And Leo, with her razor sharp edges and ironclad walls, was slow to trust, but watching her guard crack inch by inch—and seeing her begin to trust Silas with the parts of herself she’s never let anyone touch—was one of my favorite dynamics in the book.

All of the gruesome moments, buried secrets, betrayal lurking in the shadows, and the steady undercurrent of suspense kept me flipping the pages. The tension around what Leo was hiding had me guessing until the reveal, and when her past finally comes roaring back, Silas’s response is everything—feral devotion, scorched earth loyalty, and the promise that he’ll burn the world down before he lets anything take her from him.

Beautiful Things Obey is a thrilling, steamy mafia romance with teeth, and I’m completely hooked on this world. I’m already hoping this talented trio has more chaos, more secrets, and more dangerously devoted men waiting in the wings.

The story follows Leonore, a mortician who works with Boston's Mafia families whenever they need to discreetly dispose of a "problem." When Silas Vescari's uncle is killed and brought directly to Leonore, Silas shows up on her doorstep demanding the body. True to herself, Leo stands her ground and refuses to give in to his demands, which sets off a chain of complications. As they work together to resolve the situation, Leo's past comes back to haunt her.

I absolutely loved this book because the FMC is fierce, sassy, and refuses to take anyone's bullshit. Leo never backs down, not even when her life is threatened, and she certainly doesn't let Silas Vescari intimidate her. She's an absolute badass, and honestly, I want to be like her when I grow up. Also, I LOVE the way she stands up for women.

Silas is your classic Mafia boss: powerful, ruthless, and used to getting what he wants. He's immediately intrigued by Leo because she's one of the few people willing to stand up to him. While he's relentless in pursuing her, the moment someone else threatens her life, he makes it crystal clear that she's off-limits. He even goes so far as to make an example of one of his own men to prove his point.

This was my first dark romance in quite a while (probably my first of the year) and it reminded me exactly why I love the genre. I've read all of T.L. Smith and Kia Carrington-Russell's previous collaborations, and I've loved every one of them. This book was no exception. I couldn't put it down, and just when I thought I knew where the story was going, another plot twist kept me turning the pages.

Beautiful Things Obey completely consumed me from the very first page. I was instantly hooked, and the story never let go. These three authors delivered a dark, addictive mafia romance filled with suspense, sizzling chemistry, and unforgettable characters.

I absolutely loved Leonore. She is a fiercely independent FMC who refuses to take nonsense from anyone. Strong, fearless, and fiercely loyal, she'll do anything to protect the few people she lets into her life. In the criminal underworld, she's known as Grim, a reputation she's earned through grit and determination. She doesn't fear the dangerous men around her, she simply gets the job done and collects what's owed.

Silas may be one of the most feared men in the mafia, but when it comes to Leonore, he's completely undone. He admires her strength, her fiery attitude, and the way she never backs down from a challenge. He's never envisioned a future with love or family, but Leonore has a way of making him question everything he thought he wanted.

The banter between Silas and Leonore was one of my favorite parts of the book. She constantly keeps him on his toes, and their back and forth had me laughing as much as it had me swooning. Their chemistry is absolutely electric, with a slow-building tension that explodes into a romance full of passion and intensity.

Packed with shocking secrets, dangerous twists, fierce loyalty, and friendships pushed to their limits, this story kept me guessing at every turn. With danger always lurking in the background and emotions running high, Beautiful Things Obey delivered everything I wanted in a dark mafia romance more.

This book is amazing I honestly loved it.

The fact that it is written by 3 amazing authors too makes it even better. If you asked me to pick out parts from the book that each writer wrote I wouldn't be able to that's how good they all are at writing together it's seamless 🥰.

Leo is my new favourite FMC she is fearless, strong and takes no s**t from anyone especially the MMC. The way she is unapologetically herself and doesn't care had me internally thinking yes this is girl power (it brought me right back to the Spice Girl Era lol)

I love the dynamic between the FMC and MMC. The presents he sends her are a little unhinged but the fact that they appeal to my favourite mortician makes it swoon worthy.

Silas is adorable and is absolutely perfect, the way he falls and falls HARD for Leo is chef's kiss. I love that she keeps him on his toes and it only makes him want her even more. I liked that he's also a family man and he is willing to do anything to protect the ones he loves.

I really enjoyed that when times get hard and Leo struggles that she actually listens to Silas and let's him help her and doesn't do it on her own and realises that that doesn't make her weak and that it's ok to lean on others too.

One of my favourite sentences from the book has to be "I'm not going to pat his head every time he's a good psycho". It had me laughing out loud 😆

I honestly don't have a bad word to say about this book, for me it was flawless and I loved every minute of reading it.

Definitely add this to your TBR.

Holy sh!t!!! These 3 amazing authors worked some serious magic with this book!! Like can we please get another one?!!! LOL!! This was pure unhinged madness and I’m living for it!! The dynamic between Leonore and Silas was absolutely diabolical!! I kept waiting for the moment she might actually unalive him for getting on her last nerve!!! The chemistry between them was a raging inferno from the very beginning and the fact that they met their match and are both equally a little psycho….. awe, insert swoon here!!! The level of spice was… WOW!! I absolutely loved Leonore’s character for her level of complete unhinged darkness, she was not afraid of anyone, doesn’t back down and can do some serious damage when necessary!! Like total black cat vibes!! And Silas…. I’m a drooling mess for this man!! His level of crazy is perfect! No fear, complete badass and doesn’t shy away from a woman who has a scalpel to his throat, just smiles in the face of death like it’s just another Tuesday!! This man answers to no one but will gladly undress and hop up on a counter to let her assess his body, clinically of course! Everything she does to him, that would make any normal man run for the hills, has this man tripping over himself and following her around like a lost puppy!!

Absolutely 💯 recommend this book!! It’s a hilarious, unhinged, morally grey read that I couldn’t get enough of!!

AHHHHHH!!! These three authors need to be legally required to keep writing books together because I absolutely inhaled this!!!

Dr. Leonore Graves works with the dead, and when a body lands in her morgue that happens to matter to Silas Vescari, the most terrifying crime syndicate boss in the city, he's ready to bulldoze his way to answers. Except... he picked the WRONG woman to try and intimidate. 😂🤭

Leonore gave exactly zero f’s, took absolutely no crap from anyone, and stared danger dead in the face like it owed her money. Literally…She was fearless, feral, and an absolute icon. I was OBSESSED with her.

And Silas?! EXCUSE ME. The dominance. The power. This man walked onto the page and the air pressure changed. Every scene with him was dripping with I own the room energy, and it was so fun to read Leonore put this man in check…it only made him feral for her and I ate it up. 😂

The chemistry between these two? UNHINGED. I was giggling, kicking my feet, and cackling one minute, then fanning myself the next. The banter was razor sharp, the tension was so thick you could cut it with a knife, and the push and pull had me screaming. THEY. ARE. HOT. HOT. HOT.

Then throw in the plot twists…totally locked from start to finish. LOVED!!!!

Thank you Kia for the advanced copy to read 🫶

Ahhhhhh, can this be any more deadly and humorous at the same time??? There is one song, I will not name, that’s on my mind after reading this book. It’s not exactly a song, but it is something, and I love it. The chemistry is pure fireworks from the start, and I was like what?? Something’s cooking even before they get hungry.

I enjoyed the writing trio, and it was a great story to immerse yourself in. Leonore is one feisty FMC. She handled everything like a boss, and by the end of only one chapter, I was already in love with her, and I was correct to say that she was fabulous throughout the book.

Add in Silas to the scene, and bang, you have an addictive, morally grey MMC & FMC in the same frame. The banter is top tier. They are dark, but they have emotions. They are dangerous, but they have a heart. It was deadly cute. Must read it. Where are my mafia girlies?? Go read it.

Now, on to the story, it had many factors. One thing leads to another, and the past and the present collide. Who is going to win?? Will it be enough?? Or are we going into something unknown?? There were so many questions in my mind, like What now? And I adore a story where I forced to think about things. It makes it more engaging and lets me want to devour it. Awesome.

It’s a 4.5⭐️ for me.

Silas and Leonore

Calling Leonore a string FMC is an understatement. She is highly intelligent, fiercely independent and can hold her own against the make dominated mafia. She is very generous and has an extremely small circle that she loves with all that she has. And by the way she rubs a mortuary that caters to underworld.

Silas is head of the most feared family in the surrounding cities. He is ruthless and kills without fear of consequences. He is used to the fear and getting his way. Leo is an enigma. She doesn’t show fear or fall for his nonsense. He is definitely intrigued.

Both characters are a bit unhinged. There is nothing they won’t do to protect the ones they card the most about. That is their “softness” The love they have for family blood or not is exceptional. Silas delivers some seriously swoon worthy lines. Leonore had some great moments too.

The banter between them is dangerous, spicy and sometimes humorous. The chemistry between them is electric and jumps off the pages. This story was definitely entertaining with the tension, plot twists secrets and exceptional characters.

I’m Still Not Over This
Okay, I went into Beautiful Things Obey expecting a solid dark romance, but I was NOT prepared to be this obsessed.
First of all the FMC. She’s chef’s kiss. The sassiness, the way she plays him like a chess match, the absolutely brutal one liners… I was giggling, cackling, the whole nine yards. She’s the kind of character that makes you want to be her friend AND fear her a little. That dynamic? That’s everything.
The three-author collaboration is seamless the writing flows so naturally that I never once felt like I was reading work from different authors. They clearly knew exactly what they were doing, and it shows.
I read this during exam season as my brain needed something completely consuming and addictive, and wow did it deliver. Like, I’d be stressed about exams and then crack open this book and immediately forget all my problems because I was too busy being invested in every character and plot twist.
My only complaint? That it ended. I want more.
If you love dark mafia romance with a FMC who refuses to play victim and characters that burrow into your brain and stay there this is your book. I trusted these authors before, but now? They’re cemented as queens. Highly recommend.
