A hidden cache. A weaponized lie. And a fuse already burning in the Florida Keys.
When salvager Mac Travis pulls a sealed crate from a wreck off the backcountry, he expects contraband—maybe drugs, maybe guns. What he finds instead is far military-grade drones, stripped of their payload… but still linked to a targeting system aimed straight at the heart of the Keys.
Someone is planning a strike—and setting the stage to blame it on Cuba.
With the ordnance missing and the clock ticking, Mac is forced into a dangerous game. The men behind the operation aren’t foreign agents—they’re family. Bound by blood, divided by ideology, and willing to burn the region to spark a war that’s been simmering for generations.
Outgunned and running without backup, Mac has one chance to stop put everything back where he found it, follow the enemy to the end of the line, and expose the truth before the first drone launches.
But in the dangerous waters of the Keysf, secrets don’t stay buried—and neither do the dead.
From the backcountry flats to the deep Gulf, Wood’s Trigger delivers high-stakes action, authentic Keys grit, and a race against time that will leave you breathless.
Wood’s Trigger by Steven Becker is the 24th novel in the Mac Travis series. Another fine book set in the Florida Keys. The story line revolves around charter fishing and newly sunken boat acting as an artificial reef. This newly sunken boat was involved in an argument and shooting between two relatives that was witnessed by Mac, Trufante, and Maddie, a charter captain Mac was teaching some fishing tips on finding and catching wahoos. The government was documenting the newly sunken ship shortly after.
Mac and Pamela dive on the ship and find a smugglers hold on the wreck. The rest of the story revolves around what they find in smugglers hold and diving effort to recover the crate. There is some conflict between Mac and Sloan, one of the relatives involved in the shooting, during the recovery process.
A Florida Key's adventure with a well written storyline and a great cast of realistic characters. Mac gives us an education in fishing and diving in the ocean at this great location. A page turning read with plenty of action and suspense. Highly recommended stand-a-lone story by an outstanding author.
Mac and his crew save key West from drones set to insight s war. Or Dave Cuba politics today are muddled with wanna be hamsters and in Macs case a real hero good to the end lots of a conch goodness and looking forward to more can't forget Tiffany's and pamela Bobbie and I will get some sleep now ....ciao
What should have been a safe relaxing outing turns into a wild an crazy hunt for what could start a war or at least a military action between the U.S. and Cuba. Following all the twists and turns in this one, and having almost everyone from previous books involved, makes this one another great mystery with real life possibly involved. Keep up the good work!!!
Working on a lobster boat, unjamming the cages, Travis comes across a sunken boat. No ancient pirate boat here, but recently placed. He notices a crate, but getting out out isn't going to be easy and he might not like what he finds.
Mac Travis gets pulled into another round of "saving the world", and Trumante is either your best friend, or one you don't want around..... another good read... 5 stars
