Diana Elliot Graham is proof that you don’t need to be an author to be an author. First and foremost she is an avid reader who never read a book she regretted. She calls herself the accidental-author because she wrote her debut novel, When We Were, with some spare time, an interesting concept, and a “just keep writing” mentality. (And a lot of encouragement, okay bullying, from friends and family.) Since then, she has numerous projects that are in varying degrees of semi-finished that may or may not ever see the light of day. Now, here she is, writing this bio as imposter syndrome ripples through her entire body, still shocked that anyone cares enough about her writing to stumble on this blurb that has been uncomfortably written in third person. So I’m just going to stop. Follow me on social media for updates on future projects. Or don’t.
I wrote this, which means it's hard for me to actually give it five stars because the inability to ever believe I did something great is the overwhelming and crippling curse of being a millennial woman.
However, I did laugh when writing it.
And while you may not agree with parts of this book. Just know I stand by them completely. (And I'm obviously talking about her spitting.) 🐸
I may have been one of the people who dubbed Diana Elliot Graham the Queen of Rom-Traum, but I never doubted that she could write a rom-com. After all, I laughed out loud several times while reading her first two books, too. And I know many of us have trust issues because of her, but I swear The Love Liability is a rom-com through & through. I had the absolute time of my life with Louisa & Hudson. I just felt so connected to both of them. They had me laughing, swooning, melting, blushing, kicking my feet, & internally screaming so hard, my head may have lost its voice. That’s not to say I didn’t get emotional though. Of course I cried—I don’t think it would be a DEG book if I hadn’t—but I promise most of them were tears of joy!
As always, I can never write an overview for a DEG book without spoiling anything so I’m not even going to try. One thing for sure, whether rom-traum or rom-com, her prose will have you highlighting page after page & will leave you in your feels, staring at the ceiling, (possibly crying, depending on what stuck with you the most), reflecting on the reality of it all.
Now, I want to leave you with the same postscript I wrote for her debut novel, because it feels so much more relevant to The Love Liability at this time—If you’re one of those people who think you can’t learn anything of value from a romance novel, this one’s for you.
The Love Liability is coming soon on June 22nd. While it is a standalone, I highly recommend reading the Arden Bancroft series first for greater impact.
What to expect: •grumpy x sunshine •marriage of convenience •neighbor enemies to lovers •he falls first •slow burn •top tier banter •yearning MMC •”good girl” •”fuck it” •dual POV •an unforgettable epilogue •MUST-READ AUTHOR’S NOTE
If you’re a fan of DEG’s first two books, TRUST ME you’re gonna want to read this one. And don’t worry, this one does give you a traditional HEA. But this is DEG we’re talking about, and it’s never that simple. It’s a happily ever after that still leaves you sitting there with introspective thoughts.
What this book made me realize is that most books labeled “rom com” are…not actually that. Like yes, they have the rom, but where is the com?! This, my friends, is a true rom com. I can count on one hand the number of times a book has made me genuinely laugh out loud, and this one had me in tears (and for once, not the soul crushing kind). I’m talking full on, can’t see the words through my laughter, wiping my eyes kind of tears.
DEG absolutely shines when it comes to character work, and this book is no exception. Our FMC, Louisa, is bright, bubbly, and determined to find joy in everything (because trauma). She’s chaotic, awkward, and responsible for so many of the laugh out loud moments.
Then we have Hudson, our emotionally unavailable king, who has built wall after wall to keep people out (again… trauma). He’s painfully Type A, acts of service coded, and watching him slowly unravel from grump to full on lover boy? Yeah. That was the heart of this story for me.
And the two of them together is a mess in the best way possible. Fully committed to staying in their safe little “this is fake” box while very obviously falling head over heels in love.
If you’re looking for a rom com that actually delivers on both the rom and the com, with just as much heart as humor, add this to your TBR immediately.
Diana Elliott Graham really said “oh, you thought I only destroy you emotionally?” and then casually delivered one of the most addictive rom-coms I’ve read in forever.
The Love Liability reminds you why romance readers are obsessed with romance. It’s FUN. It’s flirty. It’s chaotic (no consequences). It has all the tropes we collectively lose our minds over, neighbor enemies-to-lovers, grumpy x sunshine, fake marriage/marriage of convenience, slow burn tension, forced proximity, HE FALLS FIRST energy, and a hero so emotionally constipated that every tiny crack in his armor feels like winning the lottery.
Hudson is the definition of a tightly wound, suits-always-ironed, man-of-few-words MMC. He’s an attorney who likes order, structure, silence… and then Louisa crashes into his life narrating spicy romance audiobooks through the walls like the beautiful little hurricane she is. She’s chatty, eclectic, emotional, chaotic, funny, and SO painfully lovable. Their chemistry is absolute catnip.
But what Diana does differently… and why her books hit so hard for me every single time, is how REAL her characters feel. Even in a rom-com setting, these people breathe. Their inner monologues feel natural and messy and vulnerable in a way that makes you completely forget you’re reading. You don’t feel like you’re watching characters fall in love. You feel like you’re sitting in the apartment next door overhearing it happen in real time.
And somehow this woman made me giggle, kick my feet, melt into a puddle, AND get emotionally attached to a man who probably inventories his newly acquired Kermit coffee mug.
Also: longtime Diana readers are going to SCREAM. That’s it. Scream.
This is over 400 pages and I absolutely inhaled it. No dragging. No filler. Just chemistry, tension, comfort, longing, banter, emotional intimacy, and two opposites colliding in the most perfect way.
A hundred bajillion stars. Rom-com Diana Elliott Graham supremacy officially activated. 💚
Excuse me while I collect my thoughts - but know this rom-com has depth and a greater underlying story we all need to be reminded of.
While this may not be the traditional rom-traum I have come to love (and be devastated by) from DEG, this story does not lack the emotional depth, character development, and bigger picture messaging that I have come to love in her books.
A sunshine-y woman who lights up every room she walks into, and a man who does his best to ensure no one ever gets to know him, find themselves in a marriage of convenience...only to learn that love may just be for them - even if it looks nothing like they expected.
While the banter, tension, and messy characters (who feel like friends) made it impossible to put this book down, the greater messaging and reminder of this entire plot make it impossible not to recommend.
Oh my gosh! What can I even say besides DEG has done it again!!
Hudson is just like how I love my MMCs. Acts of service, a little broody, private except when it comes to her. LEMME REPEAT!! ACTS OF SERVICE KING!!!
Louisa is a relatable and likable character! Between the overalls, daisies, throat coat tea, and the overall positive outlook about things, there were so many times I was like girllll same!
There are surprises and twists and it wouldn’t be a DEG book if I didn’t cry. Don’t worry it is definitely a Rom-com and I genuinely laughed out loud. But I love love and there is a scene that was so beautiful I got emotional lol…
I will need some time to collect my thoughts before I can give this a full review, as I am currently staring at the wall, contemplating life (like i’ve done after finishing every DEG novel…but at least this time it’s without the uncontrollable sobbing). What I will say is that The Love Liability absolutely delivers on the rom com promise (and it is a REALLY good one at that)… but it’s also so much more. and if you’re wondering (like I was) about the sudden shift into rom com territory and why this is a story that needed to be told now, don’t worry, the reasoning becomes jarringly clear… and I couldn’t agree with it more.
What did I think of this book? I had 278 comments on this book. (Not including the probably 278 more I sent to hers truly.) In a perfect world, this book would be “just another HEA”… but this is Diana’s world, and we’re all just living in it. So yes, Diana. Congrats on a true rom-com HEA.
From our chaos gremlin, Louisa… to our one of a kind himbo, Hudson. Art. It’s art. From the first word to the last. (I’m looking at you, epilogue…. Read it.) This book had me (regrettably) kicking my feet, letting tears fall, and screaming into my pillow.
I am a die hard DEG stan. Possibly to a fault in that I’m quite unsure I’d ever not like something she writes. With that said, I loved this book in a way I haven’t loved a book in a long time. It made me think, feel things, look in the mirror, and have conversations I don’t usually have. Yes, this book IS that powerful.
So read it. Love it. Live it. If not for me, then.. for them.
I was a little worried going in because when the Notorious D.E.G says that you won’t be traumatized, it’s hard to trust her. It was sooo good though, i absolutely LOVED the banter and i loved Hudson’s slutty little comments 🙂↔️🙂↔️🙂↔️
ARC Review: The Love Liability by Diana Elliott Graham 💕
This was such a fun, feel-good romcom with The Proposal-style vibes—forced proximity, marriage of convenience and all the chaos that comes with it 😭✨
Louisa is beautifully unhinged in the best way—her inner dialogue is chaotic, funny, and so endearing it just works. Hudson is her total opposite: calm, direct, and impossible not to root for. Their dynamic is EVERYTHING.
DEG nailed this- The banter, the internal monologues, the emotional beats—she makes it all feel so alive. At times Lou’s narration is a little wild, but honestly that’s what makes her feel so real and lovable.
I loved her book duet When We Were and this one absolutely delivers too 💫 I will read anything she writes at this point.
⭐ 4.5 stars (rounded up to 5 on Goodreads)
Out June 22nd—add it to your TBR if you love funny, heartwarming, slightly chaotic romance with big main character energy 💕📚
Also- the epilogue/author note is worth reading and so relevant in today’s society 🫶🏻
Everything you could ever want from a slow burn, enemies to lovers, happy ending. And yet.
So very DEG to make a pointed and necessary statement in the most tragic and beautiful way. The way only she knows how to do.
You’ll laugh, and fall in love. And your heart will be ripped out of your chest anyway. Happy ever after. Yes. For who? You’ll have to turn the page to find out.
To be fair, she did warn me.

This was so good. I love the way DEG tells a story it feels so natural like you’re really seeing into the characters mind more than any other book. This story was sweet and funny but also deeper than a typical romcom the authors note was so eye opening. Overall I love love loved this and I can’t wait to read what’s next. 💚💚💚
Biggg thanks for the ARC!!
Also now I have to immediately reread SMK (aka my fav book in the world) and cry all over again 😭😭
