Hot Highlands Romance #2

Across a Dark Highland Shore

Rate this book
1447. Winter has wrapped its icy fingers around the Highlands. The MacKinnon clan is in chaos. Weakened by battle losses, treachery, and a lack of leadership, a Hogmanay celebration turns ugly as clan members decide to burn a witch at the stake—one of their very own, Isobel MacKinnon, a castle servant with the Sight. As flame is about to be touched to the kindling at her feet, five warriors appear in the snowy night, rescuing Isobel from a fiery death. But the mysterious leader of the warriors, a fierce Highlander called The Black Wolf, has saved his enemy’s life for selfish reasons. He needs a witch.

Isobel has seen the brutal and haunted Highland warrior in her dreams and now he stands before her—taller and stronger and more terrifying than any man she’s ever laid eyes on. Leith Maclean—enemy to the MacKinnon clan—is flesh and blood, a proud warrior whose ancestors battled Vikings.
The amber-eyed warrior is determined that Isobel shall divine his future and use her gift of Sight to help him win the hand of the woman he loves, his future battles, and peace with the Campbell clan.

But Leith Maclean is bewitched by the blonde beauty who emerges from peasant rags and surprised by the intense feelings she inspires in him. As Isobel attempts to aid an enemy clan, she cannot resist wanting to heal Leith's wounded heart too...and finds herself yielding to her handsome enemy’s touch.

Her sensual surrender awakens in Leith a love as mighty and relentless as his ambitions, and he will not claim true victory until he has won the affections of the proud little witch who now commands his heart.

Kelly Jameson is the author of 24 books, including:

SPELLBOUND
(Hot Highlands Romance series, Book 1)

"An unforgettable highland warrior seeking revenge, an innocent maiden brave enough to confront him. Spellbound is a terrific novel filled with passion, intrigue, vengeance, and all-consuming love. Readers will clamor for a sequel." Kat Martin, New York Times best-selling author with over 13 million books in print

TO TAME A ROGUE

"Sizzling with sexual tension, filled with passion, an old-fashioned romance. Fast-paced and fun to read." Kat Martin, New York Times best-selling author

Other Novels by Kelly Jameson (Award-winning dark suspense, urban fiction, zombie parody, short stories)

DEAD ON

DEAD ON is "Brilliant. A chilling erotic suspense that will send shivers down your spine. A sensuous, gripping tale of murder through the ages."
--Kat Martin, New York Times Best-Selling Author

SHARDS OF SUMMER

SHARDS OF SUMMER is "The Great Gatsby for the beach generation." Ken Bruen, best-selling crime noir author (LONDON BOULEVARD, THE GUARDS, HEADSTONE)

WHAT REMAINED OF KATRINA: A NOVEL OF NEW ORLEANS

"WHAT REMAINED OF KATRINA becomes a powerful story of the city's underclass, the one seldom reported by the media, the one seldom visited by tourists. This is Jameson's third novel, and may be the best one yet." Walter Brasch, Journalist/Author, Before the First Snow: Stories From the Revolution

MOBY D*CKHEAD: OR THE WHITE ZOMBIE WHALE (A zombie MASHUP by Herman Melville and Kelly Jameson)

"There are books about sea life and whales. There are books about zombies.
But Kelly Jameson may be the first person to write a book about a zombie whale. MOBY D*CKHEAD OR THE WHITE ZOMBIE WHALE is an interesting parody of the most famous whale in literature. And, just like the original, this one is interesting and has many layers to peel through. It may be as terrifying as the original, but this one is a little more suggestive and a lot more fun."
--Walter Brasch, Before the First Snow: Stories from the Revolution

JerZey
"A wacky and hilarious slice of zombie goodness. Wicked and deranged, it's TIME BANDITS meets SHAUN OF THE DEAD with a big dose of just-plain-nuts. Highly recommended" --Jonathan Maberry, New York Times bestselling author of DEAD OF NIGHT and PATIENT ZERO

Horrorphilia reviewer Gabino Iglesias says JerZey "...starts weird and finishes strong. The prose is packed with humor and there's an underlying message about what it means to be human that readers should discover by themselves. Pick up a copy today."

Some of her published short stories are collected in an anthology called DESPERATE, DISTURBED, DERANGED, AND DOUBLE-LATTED. She has also been published in Maxim Jakubowski's the Mammoth Book of Best New Erotica (vol 8 & 9), Sex in the City Paris, and the Mammoth Book of Erotic Romance and Domination.

"Jameson's prose is raw, cut-to-the-chase and knife-at-the-jugular. I especially like monkey stories, and she has a doozy of a monkey story in this collection. But that's not all. The collection is loaded with interesting characters who raise personal debasement and self-deprecation to an art form, and yet we smile all the way through it because the writing is so powerful. These people are flawed, and we get to see 'em at their worst. Caution: Leave one's inhibitions on the doorstep when reading these rich, flavorful offerings. Not for the faint of heart." C. G. Bauer, author

So, author Kelly Jameson did her homework and read a Scottish history book or ten. I know because it was regurgitated at every convenient moment in expansive detail, regardless of whether it actually had anything to do with the story or not. This was too bad, because I thought the fictional part of the story was interesting, the paranormal aspect was kept to a minimum, and the main and secondary characters were interesting. Jameson's misdirects on the villain(s) were also well done. The banter between Leith and Isobel was just not enough, because I enjoyed their time together a lot. Unfortunately, place descriptions and battle scenarios were unevenly executed. Ties to other novels in the series are there, making me want to take a peek at them, too.

Enjoyable

This is a story of clan battles, visions, beginning of trust and love. Leith and Isobel find their way together as they battle the evils of others.

Oh yeah!

Super sexy, emotional story. I greatly enjoyed the banter between the main characters. They're a perfect match. I can't wait to read the next book in this series!!

Good Book

This was a really good book. I was pleasantly surprised. I took off 2 stars simply because it was only from the h POV. This could easily have been a 5 star book had it been dual POV. I don't rate books simply because of something I don't personally like. The entire time I was reading I felt like something was missing. Not only was the POV an issue but I figured out right away who the villain was. That would have been a simple fix. KJ gave HUGE clues as to the killer. This is my first book by KJ and definitely will not be my last. I started with book 2 and now I'm going to read book 1. LOL. KJ is a very talented author and I'm looking forward to reading more of her books. Hopefully others will be in dual POV, if not then I probably won't be reading many of them.
This book is definitely worth the read. Would I read it again? No. This was on KU and I'm glad I didn't spend $$ on it, simply because I wouldn't read it again. I know it sounds like I didn't like the book but that's far from the truth. I'm glad I read it and I'll read the others in this series. If she had both POV'S I'm sure this would have been on my reread list.

Entertaining

This is a fun read with characters you like--or detest--right away. The paranormal element is completely believable. A great many details are added that show either that author did research or that she has a wonderful imagination.
