Okay, Eden.

A ROBOT???

We’ve apparently reached the portion of my reading journey where I’m looking at artificial intelligence and thinking:

…hear me out.

😭

This is absolutely NOT my usual vibe. Sci-fi? Dystopian? Artificial intelligence? Robots?

Usually your girl is somewhere in a dark alley being stalked by a morally gray man in a mask or being kidnapped by the mafia.

I HAVE A BRAND.

But Eden O’Neill said, come over here for a second.

And somehow???

I ENJOYED THE RIDE.

Vivian Graves is living in a world controlled by her husband, Benjamin, the founder of Simulation Technology.

And I use the word controlled very intentionally.

Then comes ADAM — Artificial Dynamic Adaptive Machine.

His assignment?

Vivian.

His prime directive?

Serve her. Protect her. Control the situation when necessary.

There’s just one teeny tiny complication:

ADAM isn’t supposed to feel.

So obviously this man-machine is about to develop the most inconvenient feelings imaginable.

What surprised me most about this book was how much more there was to it than woman falls in love with hot robot.

Because yes.

That’s happening.

We’ll circle back. 😏

But underneath the romance is this genuinely interesting exploration of what actually makes someone human.

ADAM can process information instantly.

He can download knowledge.

He can operate with efficiency humans could never achieve.

But then he starts wanting to experience things.

Not download a book.

Read it.

Not simply understand what dancing is.

Dance with Vivian.

Cook with her.

Dream.

Want.

Choose.

Those quiet moments ended up being some of my favorites because watching ADAM slowly move beyond What am I programmed to do? toward What do I WANT to do? was fascinating.

And then there’s Vivian.

Her journey hit differently.

She’s spent so much time being controlled, manipulated, grieving, and surrounded by people who don’t necessarily see her.

So there’s something deliciously ironic about the supposedly non-human character becoming the one who begins seeing Vivian most clearly.

Sir wasn’t programmed to love and still managed to outperform some human husbands.

Benjamin…

Count your days. 😌

And THAT’S where this story got much darker than I expected.

Control.

Agency.

Consent.

Personhood.

Who gets to decide whether another being deserves autonomy?

What happens when an entire group is considered less than because society has decided they aren’t really people?

There were moments that genuinely made me uncomfortable in exactly the way dystopian fiction SHOULD.

Because suddenly you’re not just reading about robots.

You’re thinking about humanity.

And history.

And the ways people justify cruelty once they’ve convinced themselves the person receiving it doesn’t deserve the same rights they do.

THAT I wasn’t expecting.

I also loved that Vivian and ADAM are older protagonists in their 30s. Vivian isn’t some barely-adult heroine stumbling into this world. She’s a grown woman carrying grief, trauma, anger, and an entire life that existed before this story began.

And watching her reclaim pieces of herself alongside ADAM discovering himself created such an interesting parallel.

She’s remembering how to live.

He’s discovering what living even means.

🥹

BUT OKAY.

We’ve been intellectual long enough.

THE ROBOT HAS A DIRTY MOUTH.

EDEN???

😭😭😭

Because apparently ADAM downloaded the entire internet and said:

Excellent. I know exactly what to do with this information.

I was NOT prepared.

I came here skeptical about robot romance and left thinking…

Maybe technology has gone too far, but perhaps we should hear it out.

😂

And the yearning???

That’s ultimately what sold their romance for me.

ADAM’s entire existence begins with a directive to protect Vivian, but eventually you start questioning where programming ends and choice begins.

He doesn’t simply protect her because he’s supposed to.

He wants her safe.

He wants her happy.

He wants HER.

And when a character who supposedly cannot love starts exhibiting a level of devotion that would embarrass half the fictional men on my Kindle?

Yeah.

I GET IT, VIVIAN.

I also adored Indy.

Every woman going through absolute dystopian hell deserves one friend standing beside her saying, essentially:

Okay babe, this is insane, but I’m here.

And now you’re dangling Indy and Creed in front of me???

Oh, I see what’s happening.

Eden got me through the door with Vivian and ADAM and now I’m apparently invested in the Love & Robots Cinematic Universe™️.

Not my normal flavor of morally questionable fictional man considering this one is, technically, not a man.

But apparently the pipeline from mafia men → masked stalkers → cowboys → sentient robot bodyguard is shorter than I anticipated.

Eden O'Neill may have thought she could never fit into the Sci-Fi genre, but I am here to say she does. This angsty, enemies-to-lovers sci-fi romance set in a near-future dystopia had me thinking about it long after I put it down. I am actually happy I didn't have the time to just sit and read it all in one sitting. One, I didn't want the story of Vivian and Adam to end and second I needed that time to process the underlying themes in this novel.
Between the unputtable down plot, there were several deeply memorable characters. The main characters were diverse and in their 30s, it was a refreshing element of this novel, a divergence from Eden's collegiate settings (I do love her Court Series).
ADAM's growth from - programmed, prime directive to serve, protect his assignment, to questioning his own actions, wanting to experience and dream. It was done with flawless pacing, slow linear developement to Adam. Some moments that had me captivated - dancing scene, explaining how reading a physical book versus just downloading it effected him, or cooking with Vivian. All came down to experiences and not efficiency. In a time where the possibilities of AI have people cutting corners, to have an AI character who would rather just sit and read a book was an interesting juxtaposition. It forced me to think about the irony of machines outpacing humans while an artificial character models deep, thoughtful reflection.
Vivian begins resistant to the placement of ADAM but as the story unfolds more and more of Vivian's reasoning is revealed. She is a deeply caring woman living with trauma, surrounded by fake people and husband who appears to others as caring and committed. She has one wonderful constant in her life before Adam, Indy. Indy knows everything and truly supports Vivian as she comes back to herself.
I found myself emotionally connected to these characters, I laughed, cried, and even held my breath. Caused me to sit with some uncomfortable feelings on control, changing a narrative to fit your needs, abuse, and lack of agency for those considered less than. There was one particular scene of a young looking AMI and how Sims weren't considered people, so they could be treated as their operators wanted. This scene had me reflecting on real-world history and ongoing dehumanization faced by BIPOC and  LGBTQ+ communities. When a group is stripped of personhood it normalizes violence and removes the concept of consent. Eden captures this, her characters reflect on it and in the end shows the power of representation.
Ooh and for you book readers that need to know, Adam has a dirty mouth, Eden didn't skip or skimp on her spicey scenes.
Twisted Intelligence is book one in The Love & Robots series and I am looking forward to Indy and Creed. I highly recommend this book.

ARC Review

This was such a good book. I’ve enjoyed so many of Eden’s books, and this one definitely didn’t disappoint.

At its core, this is a love story between two very different beings—a human and a robot. The slow-building connection between Vivian and ADAM, the yearning, the unwavering “he’d do anything for her” devotion, was absolutely incredible. Alongside the romance, the book explores grief, healing, and finding yourself again after unimaginable loss. It takes you from the first sparks of attraction to deep love and complete adoration in such a beautiful, natural way.

The character growth was one of my favourite parts. Vivian learns how to truly live again after the devastating loss of her child, battling depression, and surviving an unfaithful husband. Meanwhile, ADAM evolves beyond his programming, becoming sentient, discovering who he is, and facing the oppression that comes with being seen as “less than.” Together, they help each other heal, grow, and become better versions of themselves.

I also absolutely loved Indy. She was fiercely loyal to Vivian, always there to offer support and guidance whenever she needed it. She was one of the rocks keeping Vivian grounded, and alongside ADAM, she helped reinforce the strength Vivian needed to move forward.

This story is about so much more than romance. It’s about overcoming betrayal, recognising fake friends, building a found family, dealing with the consequences of other people’s actions, and ultimately learning to appreciate where life has brought you.

And can we talk about the chemistry? The dirty talk and intimate moments between Vivian and ADAM were so good. Clearly, ADAM had been doing his research because… wow. Lowkey a little jealous of Vivian. 😅

I also really hope we get to see what happens next with Creed and Indy. Indy doesn’t take nonsense from anyone, and Creed… well, I think he might need someone exactly like her to loosen him up a bit. I’d love to see where their story goes next.

I enjoyed Twisted Intelligence much more than I had expected. I am not really a Sci-Fi reader, but I do read a lot of romance and occasional dystopian books, so I was interested in this. Well, Eden O’Neill did not leave me disappointed! I loved ADAM and his protective vibe, while Vivian sees him as her enemy right from the first meeting. I also enjoyed how the backstory unfolded as the story evolved. I am not giving away the storyline as I think it is best left to reveal itself as you read. Twisted Intelligence definitely falls into the category of a book I will reread, making it worthy of my 5/5-star rating. I can’t wait to read more about Creed in the next book!

This book was just okay for me. It's supposed to be set in a dystopian world, but I never really felt like I was in one. Everything stayed pretty surface-level, and I kept waiting for the story to dig deeper.

A lot of the conflicts seemed to resolve pretty quickly for Vivian and Adam. Around the 80% mark, I finally thought, "Okay, here's where things are about to get really exciting." I was expecting a big twist, some intense action, or at least an "OMG" moment. But instead, everything got wrapped up a little too neatly. I just wanted more.

That said, I did enjoy watching Adam start to "come alive" and question himself, and I liked seeing glimpses of Vivian finding her way back to herself. Those were probably my favorite parts of the book. I just wish the story had explored those character arcs—and the world itself—in a lot more depth.

Overall, it wasn't a bad read, but it left me wanting so much more.

Wow I’m not sure what kool-aid Eden is drinking but I sure hope she keeps it up. I loved everything about this story! I think she’s from the future and brought some insight to share. Can I get my own ADAM please? I loved the emotional undertones from these characters as well as the angst..whew scorching level hotness! To have a man…umm…synthetic person….umm MAN (yes he is all man) that knows my every desire and is willing to go the length to take care of me as well as fall for me. Swoon I tell you. The twist were many and I can’t wait for the next story to see how Eden will develop this world even more. I’m excited to read something different as so much is the same old same tropes and it does get tiresome for an avid reader. Snatch this one up you will not be disappointed!

This was an unusual and interesting read from an author I know and love. I went into it blind, other than it was a dip into sci-fi territory, but it also explores some unexpected themes and broader social commentary. So while this is a love story at its heart, it's actually much more. I recommend trusting the process, taking the leap and letting it pull you into the story. Being in ADAM's head from the start didn't quite fit with a SIM or robot (from my perspective as someone who used to read a tonne of sci-fi and fantasy) but it becomes clearer why that is as the story develops. I'm interested to see how this world progresses and it seems there is more to come with Indy and Creed's story. I'm definitely going to read that as I loved Indy!

Twisted Intelligence is about Vivian and Adam and is told from both of their points of view.

Adam is an Artificial Dynamic Adaptive Machine. He was built by Vivian's company. He comes to serve Vivian. At first Vivian doesn't want anything to do with him.

However, as the book goes on we find out there are secrets and lies about the robots. Adam isn't who we thought he was. Vivian is grieving someone from the past? Their relationship grows over time, but something is threatening it for good.

Will they get their happy ending? What happens with Vivian's husband? Can they get through everything that is thrown at them?

This was an interesting read for me. I hadn't read anything like it before, and I enjoyed it.

I had no doubts that this one was going to be a story that was going to suck me right in! First our FMC, Vivian, who you know has gone through something pretty serious in her life, get her very own ADAM which she doesn't want, she feels like she is being overburden. I loved that you can feel her emotions with how Eden writes. Then, we get ADAM who is not the same old AI driven robotic unit. He reads! Again I love how Eden writes and puts you in her characters heads and makes you want to figure out their whys. As we get deeper and deeper things are definitely what they seem and the conflict we get is exactly what I needed.

Twisted Intelligence gave me major i-robot/blade runner vibes but only on a more adult version where these robots brought on way more heat.

In general I'm not a huge fan of dystopian sci-fi books but I was willing to give this book a chance. I'm glad that I did because it was an interesting read. I don't think that I've read a book where the cyber-hot-bot -ADAM (Artifical, Dynamic, Adaptive, Machines) in this book and a human - Viv had a relationship. It made for a pretty great read I thought and it completely kept me gripped from start to finish. With an ending I wasn't really expecting.

This is the first in a new series.
Benjamin is the founder of Simulation Technology, and lives in a world of control, ever when it comes to his wife Vivian. ADAM is short for Artificial Dynamic Adaptive Machine, whose prime directive is to serve, assigned to Vivian, and to break her of need be.
This is a good story which is easy to read, action packed, emotional roller coaster, with tension, objectives, assignments, resistance, survival, enemies / lovers, and a robot / human, which leads to an enjoyable, twisted, and unpredictable Sci-Fi dystopian romance.
I look forward to reading more from this author in the future.

Twisted Intelligence is the first story in the Love and Robots series. It is a very different story than I normally read but it worked well.

Adam is a machine that was developed by Vivian’s technology company. The company develops synthetic people or robots. At first Vivian doesn’t want Adam. Adam is not your typical robot. He can do a lot of things and develops feelings for Vivian. He wants to serve her. Their story is very different than anything you will read and you will be wanting more of it.

Vivian and ADAM

A bit different than other books this author has done before. I appreciate that she’s branching out. Well written. A little slow paced in the beginning as we try to understand Vivian and all she’s going thru and also learn to trust ADAM at the same time. Their relationship did feel a little strange and twisted at first. It heats up between them in the latter half of the book. The villain is one dimensional and kind of obvious from the start. There’s a lot of twists and turns to get to their HEA.

I don't usually pick up a Sci-Fi story, but I figured if Eden was the author I would give it a try.

Very unique story that had all the right ingredients -- angst, chemistry, fear of the unknown with regard to robots and AI (especially in today's environment), love though not in the traditional sense, protective male, healing, and personal growth. And throughout the story, I could feel Eden's fingerprints with regard to writing style.

A future prediction?

The movie iRobot scares me, so this book is close to that level. You feel and connect with the main robot character but there is still so much that ia unknown with AI. I enjoyed the book and feel like Vivian and ADAM were well developed characters. Different than the last few books I read from Eden O'Neill but I love her as a writer and would continue to read this series!!

So took a chance on this as I'm not usually into sci-fi but I do love Eden's books. It did take a minute for me to get into it, however I found that I really liked this one. I felt it was well written, flower well, and was a great storyline. Definitely had the steam Eden is known for. Overall was definitely a great read. Can't say I will read much sci-fi in the f fire but if Eden is writing it I surely will.

This is a new twist on romance, although I wanted to absolutely love it,I unfortunately didnt. I do love edens other stories. This one just wasnt for me. Eden gives you everything you know and love from he though. The concept of a human and robot is awesome. I just didnt resonate with either character and thats the reason I rated it with 4 stars ! I went into this with a totally open mind and I somewhat enjoyed it but I didnt devour it. It does deal with crappy husband's and other hard topics.

I wasn’t sure how this book was going to go since it was love and robots. I had my theories but didn’t let that influence me while I read. The things that happen behind the scenes are a fear most would have if robots ever became a normal thing. But to find love, in a nontraditional way, when you have lost so much is always beautiful. ADAM is definitely book boyfriend material.

SIM/Human Romance Oh My!

With AI becoming so much of our current world I was excited to come across this book that yes is in the future but ultimately a romance because HELLO why read anything else. I loved this story. I loved Adam. I love the questions this book had me asking. Cannot wait for the next in the series. Also love Eden I would read anything she writes!
