Trove's Purpose: Fourth in the Delivery Service Series

Rate this book
Delivery One cup, standard size, crystalline in structure, to be delivered to a very wealthy client.

Being stranded on a desert world with an entire starship recycling facility at their mercy, Trove and his crew had certainly managed to do more with less. Though the plane itself is lifeless, they continue to keep watch in the silent halls. Just in case some random little human female happens to track them down across the galaxies. Like this pretty little thing he greets by putting a pistol right in her face.

Chee has one mission. To complete it, she has to find the crew of the Humble Delivery Service. Not that they're hard to find. Her rather wealthy and mysterious benefactor already tracked them down, got her a starship, and sent her on her way with instructions on how to complete that mission. It seems easy enough. Until she meets Trove and finds him to be the most irritating, disgusting, frustrating playboy she's evermet.

Except there's something about him that keeps pulling her back in. And every time she thinks she understands him, he proves her wrong. And maybe they have more in common than she initially thought.

This is just a job. She has too much riding on her success to risk failure. But there's a lot going wrong, and she isn't sure that it's even possible to complete this job.

Chee has already sacrificed everything. She's putting it all on the line. No matter what he's like, Trove isn't going to keep her from succeeding. Even if he's probably the strongest person she's ever met.

Trove's Purpose is the fourth in the Delivery Service series. It is a MF romance with a HEA and a complete story between the leads. Though each story can be read as a standalone, this series is best read in order. Tropes and trigger page inside.

Eh. Female simps aren’t really my thing. I kept wanting to yell at her to get tf up off the floor already. She kept saying she wouldn’t accept less yet she kept going back and getting herself disappointed. 🫩. I actually prefer for them to not end up together.

Ya I feel bad for him and his past, but he definitely wasn’t ready for a mate and it was weird for her to be like “I’m going to fix him!” When he gave no indication of even wanting to be fixed. Everything that made you pitty and want to understand him was only said through the authors narration and not to the actual FMC. If you look at their interactions from the beginning - he rarely said anything to her other than “this is all I can give you, take it or leave it”.
All the longing and sadness was internal dialogue. So when she kept trying and getting put down by him - it came off as her being a simp with no back bone. Even though we as readers knew he really liked her. He eventually opens up but really it never even should’ve gotten that far with anyone who had a backbone and self respect.

My most anticipated book this year!

Where to start?

This book continues a few months after the last one. The humble delivery service is still building their new spaceship, while a human named Chee is sent to space to find them and offer them a job by someone named Hyde.
When she arrives, Trove knows on sight, that she is his mate, but he is also certain, that he can never be someone's mate.

This plot was such a treat. I had my suspicions about the whole overarching plot since book 1, but this book not only confirmed them, but had some really interesting new developments itself. The answer to the question who Hyde is was hinted at so many times, but I think it would have been hard to spot if I didn't do a full Coalition Universe reread this year.
I had so much fun reading this book!

While every book in this series has a certain amount of trauma, since the whole delivery crew is from Rik-Vane, this story has more of it. Both MCs lived through sexual trauma and they had to learn so much about each other and overcome their own hangups and open up to finally be together.
I dislike how often Chee had to be the one to do the emotional work for both of them, but since she had better opportunities to learn how to deal with her trauma and emotions. And in the end, both of them pull their weight and I can't wait to see how their relationship develops over the next books.

I'm really excited for Rok's story to come next and what exactly Hyde has been planning for quite some time now!

For everyone who loved this series and hasn't read the Domini series, I would really recommend catching up on the complete Coalition Universe, since Hyde's meddling really started there.

I am once again blown away by Talia’s writing ability! I just love her writing, world-building, characters and just everything that goes into these stories and this book is no different.
The characters were fun and snarky whilst also being able to carry the darker topics very well, you really feel that angst that the characters have.

I’m so excited for the next installment 😸

Dark and Glorious

I'm a survivor of CSA and SA who struggled with a lot of the same things Trove did as well as Chee. It was a nice change to have a female lead with somewhat similar trauma to one of the male characters in this series. I loved how the author carefully pairs together couples to compliment each other. Though having a similar traumatic background, at some point Chee got professional therapy that helped her cope with things. She wasn't completely healed and she had other deep insecurities, but because of her own experience, she gave Trove understanding and space to figure out things. He did lean on her a lot, but it's not like he would've been open to therapeutic services. The spa scenes were so good at establishing his character.

When Chee shared her background with Trove, I instantly knew what she'd been offered by Hyde. Raggedy Earth and it's shenanigans. Tragic but fortuitous to her and Trove. I loved that they didn't immediately fall over each other and had to work through things. Chee's boundaries and unwillingness to compromise on herself, even though it was difficult, made me so happy and proud of her! 😂 The open communication was so refreshing.

Now Hyde, I suspected his identity from the start. I read all the prior books in the series and had my suspicions about what he did at the end of the True Match series. I'm feeling VERY vindicated. I'm sure someone else would be too. 😂 Me and her: 🫱🏾‍🫲🏿

It was lovely seeing the crew progress in their relationships and personal lives. Especially how they protect each other. There's so much heaviness in this book, a lot of angst, but the compassion from Chee, support of the crew, and Trove's willingness to rethink his previous beliefs made it easier. I wasn't into the first two instances of sex, but understand how they helped them both figure out intimacy.

I struggled a lot with both Trove and Chee's tragedies being twisted and wrong publicly. I know why it doesn't matter. They know what really happened and strangers knowing the truth wouldn't necessarily change things on a personal level for any of them. For Trove I'm thinking about how Domini's First would've reacted had he known the truth. For Chee, I know on Earth how women, children, and minorities are treated and the truth probably wouldn't sway any of them. I guess I'm struggling with how unfair it all is. Which means the author did excellently telling these stories. It's just my own sense of morality/justice. I wanted Domini to consider why a crime would happen, but then I realize that even considering the possibility of something like that happening wouldn't have occurred to them... Which only makes me want to call up their government! 😂

I'm excited for the next book! Finishing this one was a birthday treat! 🖤🤌🏾

Before this book I was indifferent to Trove. He likes a good time in a brothel with consenting women who work there. So what? Now, I feel devastated for the character. He spent his formative years utterly abused and then has to spend his adulthood with a judgmental mate who never seems to get over how sexually experienced he is. She even goes as far as to speculate that he likely has an STD. How could a perfect virgin like her ever love a whore? Woe, thy name is Cheese. No really, that’s the FMC’s nickname. Cheese. Goes by “Chee.”

Once Chee learns that Trove’s behavior is likely caused by severe childhood trauma, the narrative pivots into her basically trying to heal him with her body. What makes it so hard to swallow is that Trove just accepts it all without a hint of self-preservation. That’s not even the worst part.

Chee keeps her true mission of intentionally securing a mating with Trove a secret for most of the book, even though she had endless chances to explain. Nope, she’s just going to let that poor Domini sniff her, essentially biologically lock to her, and then play the heartbroken victim because she just can’t get over herself. These are the exact same hurdles that tripped up the author in her Domini series (I’m still not over Hattie’s botched story!), where muddled motivations and communication issues overshadowed the story.

Talia Rhea’s books suffer for want of a sensitivity and common sense editor. This could have been a great story about healing but these recurring issues just made it too tough to finish. DNF at the 75% mark.

Another great read

Quickly becoming my favorite author, Talia has made another great addition to her universe. I love the overarching stories like the delivery boys and the mates of domini. Of the delivery boys, this so far is my second favorite (hard to beat Tanin). Looking forward to the future releases.

I love this series. I love the entire universe. It’s by far the best alien romance universe I’ve read and I measure everything I read up against it. Trove and Chee were really beautiful together. Such a heartbreaking and beautiful healing journey for poor Trove. I absolutely loved it, especially that sweet ending. Can’t wait for more!!

I eagerly await Alred and Goldie’s book. Yes, I borrowed the entire series from Kindle Unlimited to read the Alred and Goldie parts. I assume there will be two more books till Alred. Rok’s book is next, then the twins. Hopefully Alred is after that <3

I really liked it. But the hero had a very sad and traumatic past. The heroine also had trauma from when she was a child.

I liked how they learned together how to touch each other.
