Overall, I loved this series from start to almost finish. It's better if you read the last chapter as metaphorical rather than literal.

La historia hubiera sido mil millones de veces mejor si hubiera quedado muerta, I said what I said 🤷🏻‍♀️ Igual la historia en general estuvo buena así que manga aprobado in my books.

Strong premise and storyline but the repetitive plot dragged this manga down the ending for one was rushed and it felt as if the author was trying to do a tragic and happy ending at the same time but couldn’t decide what they wanted. My biggest complaint with this manga was every few chapters fl would randomly faint or cough up blood and the ml would suffer from some severe injury just to be the fine the next chapter after a while it felt like emotional bait but the saddest part is it potential to be one of the greatest romance manga hopefully the anime makes some well needed adjustments.

I’m still processing this book. I went to sleep at 4 a.m. devastated, waiting to see where his path ended. Now I didn’t know how to feel 🫠 when he read that letter. I thought I was reading it wrong because of how late it was in the night, but no… that did happen. I even went online to verify because what do you mean?!

Let’s see how it plays out in the anime. I’m going to continue to process this….

I just went through several stages of denial grief anger and every other emotion known to human.

“AND SO, I BEGIN THE FINAL JOURNEY I'LL WALK WITH YOU...”

do i take this literal or do i take it as an elderly shinpeis hallucinations of what he loved the most this feels so open ended even if it is literal im gonna spiral.

Review in progress*

After months of a hiatus I finally completed reading the final arc.
Firefly Wedding is one of those stories that has much potential but because the author is focused more on edgy tropes or shock value the story derails into something so egregious - it makes me wonder if the story was worth reading in the first place.
The majority of this manga takes place on Satoko and Shinpei trying to escape the very island Satoko was brought to after she was easily kidnapped.
It doesn't help that Satoko spends the majority of this time lamenting over not being useful to her father due to her heart condition and constantly feeling insecure about her scars.
This stagnant setting alongside Satoko's constant lamenting kept this story in the same loop for chapters on end so you can imagine how overjoyed I was when she and Shinpei finally left the island and traveled back to her family's home.
Unfortunately the story returned to the same stagnant trend of Satoko spending her time lamenting over the same topic over and over again.

This manga captivated me.
I went into it thinking it would be a lighthearted romance, and got thrown into a dark, twisted love story.
We knew she was always going to die, but we never knew how he would react in the end.
I think people are taking the ending too literally. I think it was his redemption/salvation to see her one last time. He was most likely hallucinating, and they didn’t spend decades apart because of a “communication issue”.
Based off the panels, both were young again (and I highly doubt the “cure” made her immortal/never ages).

This anime is going to wreck me when it comes out in October.

Shinpei: “voy a cumplir mi promesa”.

No.

NO.

Me niego.

Perfecto.

¿PERO DÉCADAS?

¿ME ESTÁS DICIENDO QUE PASAMOS TODA LA HISTORIA CON “SATOKO NO TIENE TIEMPO” PARA DESPUÉS HACER QUE ESTOS DOS PIERDAN AÑOS Y AÑOS DE SU VIDA POR UN PROBLEMA DE COMUNICACIÓN?

No.

Fin.

No acepto preguntas.

incredible manga with solid & beautiful characters, love story, art, amazing plot twists & tension & fights, but man that ending sucked… if i’d spent years waiting for chapters to be published i’d have been pissed.

(spoilers)
it would’ve been better to keep the bittersweet, sad ending of satoko dying, or to have them go tragically together romeo and juliet style, or just do the happily ever after ending. the whole "she was alive all along" but didn’t reach out to him for real or look for him + he just ran away leaving her body behind 12 seconds after he believes she died was so dumb, unrealistic, and unromantic.
to be honest from shinpei killing the powerful sons before the wedding (vol. 10?) — and getting no retribution in the end? — on, the story stopped holding itself together as well. it felt like the author didn’t quite know where to draw the line between how terrible shinpei was and how much they wanted the love story to end well. the entire love story often borders on creepy and toxic with the yandere ML; but that’s the moment where it eventually, finally did get icky, and rooting for the ML got difficult, double personality or not. it was quite unnecessary to have him do that too, since he tried murdering the entire household right after because of the voice in his head; it felt like the murders of innocents were supposed to be the reason satoko hates him, but then the author just back tracked??
and satoko did stop showing her crazy determination and love for him too, and the new rich guy was weirdly important and central for no real reason??

i don't know what to say about the ending. i was ready to give it a 5 star read overall.

but i bumped it down to 3 stars just because of the ending!!!!

i felt like it wasted my tears. kinda.

the ending was definitely painful. the approach to death is so accurate and so realistic.

the way shinpei acted like everything was fine and didn't react AT ALL. so real. and raw. my heart hurts so bad.

it was gonna be perfect already. i swore at that point i accepted it if she just died. but the moment they changed the ending for some miracle and at that point in time they wasted decades away from each other. wow. i was speechless. the writer is way too cruel to them.

i should've known the first page of the manga (actually i did predicted it) is gonna be the ending. that she lives till her old age. but still, the writing was distasteful. it really turned me off completely.

anyways. i shall remember the celestial maiden isle & shinpei x satoko for life. and for what could've been --if the write wasn't too cruel. poor satoko only wanted love all her life and she was robbed of it.

i ALSO got robbed cuz i didn't sleep on a work night for this bizarre ending. sigh

Bold rating for an ending so hated, I know, but maybe it’s just my interpretation of it that has me looking at it with fondness? I guess I would be pissed too if I was taking the ending literally…but I did/do not. THEY FINALLY RAN AWAY TOGETHER AFTER HER ADMITTING THE CHOICE NOT TO WAS ONE OF HER DEEPEST REGRETS AND THEY GOT MARRIED AND THEY HAD A FEW DAYS OF DOMESTIC BLISS. AND THEN SHE /DIED/. Like duh??? They’ve been telling us in no uncertain terms that a) she has a weak heart and she’s going to die young and b) he has hallucinations as a coping mechanism when he faces emotions too painful. So MY interpretation was that she died, he was largely unable to handle it, and then hallucinated this whole life where she was alive and well outside of his eyeline and they got to meet one last time after spending his entire life grieving and missing her because that was easier than coping with losing his wife so young. So if I look at the ending that way, it’s heartbreaking and painful and I also love it very very much. Either way, this series was not objectively good but it does have my whole heart. So there!

Can I just say my opinions here because respectfully what the hell?

I loved all of the start of this volume and then bam the ending was quite the opposite. Like I get it and also don't. Why couldn't we have a wayyyyy smaller gap did it have to be 40 years it changes everything like whyy? They had dreams and all that felt rushed they deserve their happy ever after but not 40 years later. How about 1 or 5 that would have been better why did you have to shatter everyones hearts. Like whyy couldn't someone sent the messages or even idk something else. The ending will have been perfect if it weren't for the gap. That gap will be the death of me.
Can we please all agree the author has to make a different version for the ending like am I the only one here.
We are all heartbroken after that we deserve a better ending...... 😭😭
