What would happen if time, the fragile thread that both leads and binds us, could be unwound as simply as untying a knot? Would we go back, charging through our own history, changing and tweaking, plucking at that fragile thread until time itself unraveled all around us? Would we create countless universes through which we could live our fantasies—or would we become our own nightmares? Would we blaze ahead, reckless and wild, into our own futures? Would we become our own heroes, or would we become villains?
Join us for a series of stories that explore time, through the eyes of those bold enough to conquer it, and foolish enough to try to control it. From the award-winning team of authors at Clean Teen Publishing, TWISTS IN TIME will both entertain and challenge the way you see the world around you. Because when one finds a way to break the barrier of time, endless worlds of possibilities emerge.
Jon Messenger (Born 1979 in London, England) serves as an United States Army Major in the Medical Service Corps. Since graduating from the University of Southern California in 2002, writing Science Fiction has remained his passion, a passion that has continued through multiple combat and humanitarian deployments. Jon wrote the "Brink of Distinction" trilogy, of which "Burden of Sisyphus" is the first book, while serving a 16-month deployment in Baghdad, Iraq.
WOW....This book is phenomenal!!! I read half of it in one sitting and the other half in another sitting. This is a magnificent bunch of writers by themselves, but then put them together for an Anthology and you have a suspenseful, blow your mind, edge of your seat of Twisted and unforeseen plots in each and every story. I really can't say that I have a favorite one, but the one that got me the most was It's the Little Things by Jon Messenger that got me. I was shocked and totally floored by the end of this story. It really had a twisted ending to it that I won't forget anytime soon. Each of these stories are amazing and I would highly recommend getting it and reading it for yourself, and then remember this review and see if you will agree with me. In all the Anthologies that I have read in 2015, this one wins the #1 slot of the year in my book.
Clean Teen Publishing provided me with a digital ARC copy of the book for review purposes only. No remuneration was exchanged.
An amazing anthology with a plethora of takes on the whole time travel idea. These stories will take you from the dawn of time to way in the future and wishing YOU could time travel so you can enjoy the experience all over again.
There is literally something in this book for everyone so whether you have read all of the authors before or they are all new to you I would be you can find a favorite.
Since I already shared my thoughts via Instagram on this read, I'll keep this short. Generally speaking, I'm not a short story or anthology kind of person. In all honesty, I usually find them to be a waste of my time. If I'm going to sit down and take the time to actually read a story, I want more from it. I want a full story. That's just me. So when Clean Teen/Crimson Tree Publishing released this anthology centered around time travel, I didn't know what to think. I had no idea I'd enjoy this read as much as I did!
I'm not going to review each of these nine stories individually, but I will say there wasn't a single one that didn't capture my full attention. Each story clocked in at fewer than 20 pages, but each one packed a huge punch in those few words. I was left flat our angry a few times because I really wanted to know what came next! This was my first read from a handful of these authors (Kathy-Lynn Cross, Kelly Risser, Holly Kelly, Sandy Goldsworthy and Kasi Blake), but just based on their ability to craft such a fulfilling story in such a short capacity, I know I'll love their full length works. Thanks to Twists in Time I have added several new books to my TBR. Each story was unique and amazing on it's own, combine the nine of them together and you've got one powerhouse read.
I'm a little on the fence about time travel stories, if only because they are so... unrealistic that it oftentimes drives me away. While none of these stories was solely rooted in 'reality', each one took a different twist on the time travel theme. It was definitely interesting. From Kelly Risser's emotional journey, to Holly Kelly and Sandy Goldsworthy's historic fictions, to Sherry Ficklin's steampunk, to Kathy-Lynn Cross' sci-fi: there is a short story here for readers of all types. If you aren't a fan of time travel, you will be by the time you finish this!
All-in-all, I can definitely say without hesitation that this was the best anthology I have read to-date. This shouldn't surprise anyone, because as you guys well know, I am a huge supporter of Clean Teen/Crimson Tree Publishing and all of their authors. They really only put out the best work. This was a short read, clocking in at just 160 pages, but readers of all ages will devour this one! I am granting Twists in Time a phenomenal 5-star review. Definitely worth adding to your TBR!
I was expecting some sci-fi short stories about time travel but discovered these were actually more like teasers for novels written by the authors. I was a bit disappointed by this as none of the stories had any resolution and none were enticing enough for me to investigate the authors' books any further.
Twists in Time is an anthology of time travel stories. I usually don't read anthologies or time travel for that matter, but I found these stories interesting and engaging. These authors are very creative in their story telling. The writing is superb and the stories are powerful. I was pleasantly surprised with this anthology. I won Twists in Time in a blog giveaway, and all opinions are my own.
What an interesting collection of short stories. Very imaginative ideas from all authors. Kathy-Lynn Cross: I have read her other book, So Shall I Reap, and find her to be an exceptional writer. She knows how to create a story and create it well. Within a Grain of Sand was a beautiful supernatural outtake to time. Her ideas of creating a world that pulls you right in makes you feel as if what she writes is reality; her way with words also helps make it that much more believable. I hope she can continue this short story, because I would love to know where it goes. Kelly Risser: I thoroughly enjoyed What You Wish For. I loved how simple and well written it was. Kelly pulled off providing a strong connection with the characters, making you want to see the main characters wish come true. Julie Wetzel: Tides of Time was an interesting story. The idea was different, but for me as a reader I'm not big on high tech words in my reading. I like to understand everything I'm absorbing and her words seemed to be overwhelming at times. I did feel however, that in this kind of story, suspense would have been an awesome trait. I was disappointed with the ending, and not in the sense of "oh that shouldn't have happened," but in the reference of "there could have been suspense to end this." With the main character I didn't feel any connection, it seemed like another day to him; and when the person helped him in a life and death situation, and then the end result, didn't win it for me. Felt a little bit cheated. Holly Kelly: The Fall... WOW! I enjoyed the description and felt the strong connection to the characters. I wanted to see the main character get to her goal, but when she kept pushing that red button I called her an idiot. Haha. The things you would do for family. I was even on the edge of my seat when she was accused of being a witch, beautifully written, I felt it. When she made it to her last destination, I never imagined it going there, and when I picked up on the clues... again WOW. Kudos Kelly. Very impressed. *applause!* Sherry D. Ficklin: The Before Sky. As a reader I'm not a big fan of second person. There was a lot first reference as well as third. It threw me off quite a bit, and took me a few tries to get through the story. Overall, I thought it was okay once I worked through it. However, the story seemed mundane to me, but at the same time I would like to see a continuation of the story. Where does it go? How do they save the world? How did the world end up the way it did? Jon Messenger: It's the Little Things was a very simple and sweet story. Another spin on using time travel to see a loved one. I enjoyed the simplistic writing and the way John connected you with the main character; making you experience the pain, anguish, and grief that he felt. Well done. Amanda Strong: Kiss of Time; I also enjoyed the heck out of this one. Took some time to get through the beginning, but once I understood the concept I rolled through it. What a completely different take on the time travel life. I definitely want to see a continuation of this one! I'm hooked. Amanda did an amazing job with detail and putting you in the story. She was able to develop suspense and keep you there in her storytelling. Nice work! Sandy Goldsworthy: Aftertime; I enjoyed the different take on the time travel technique, unique. What a beautiful love story. Simple, with great descriptions and ease of bonding with the characters. Well done. Kasi Blake: Romeo and Juliette Times Infinity, what a sad and despairing love story. It really made me want to go through the book and help them myself somehow. What a different spin on a age old story, and Kasi manages to rope you in and make you sympathize with all the characters. What we wouldn't do for love.
In closing, I look forward to reading more work from each of the authors in this short story collection. Good choices. Nice job guys! Keep it up.
This is a collection of short stories that all have time travel in common. There is something for everyone here, and although the stories are short, they are full of characters, situations and worlds that will ring true. This is incredibly hard to do in such a small amount of space, but somehow, every single author manages to do this, within this collection.
This contains the first "book" or introduction to a number of books, and if you enjoy the intro then you can click the links in the book to find out more. There is something for everyone, so long as you like some form of Time Travel.
Interesting and enjoyable, this was a read that surprised me. Definitely recommended.
A great series of short stories about time travel. Each author has a unique take on the many twists, turns, and potential catastrophes awaiting those who mess with time. I especially enjoyed the stories by Kelly Risser, Julie Wetzel, and Holly Kelly. Well done!
