The Seattle Svensson Brothers #3

Mr. Emotionally Unstable: A Romantic Comedy

Rate this book
Someone is breaking into my house… and cleaning my kitchen.
At first, I think I’ve lost my mind. Then I decide it’s kinda nice—until the death threats start.

But worrying about stalkers is for people with disposable time.
Which I do not have, thanks to my entire family showing up unannounced to move in with me.
Yay! Surprise houseguests!

As a mature adult woman in her thirties, my stalker is the closest thing to a relationship I’ve had in years. No one’s lining up for a curvy woman with a bad attitude, bras with holes in them, and zero tolerance for man-children.
And no, Mom, I don’t need you giving my number to every creepy guy you meet at the grocery store.
I’m perfectly happy being single. I have my café, my neurotic overweight border collie, and the shadowy figure peering into my window. I don’t need a man.

Except… I do need to find my newly single little sister a boyfriend-slash-meal-ticket so she (and the rest of my houseguests) will move out.
I’d toss her to my mystery stalker, but he did my laundry, and I’m not ready to give up on those perks yet. Besides, I’ve already got the perfect man for billionaire, hot, and way out of my league.
Better yet, I no longer have a crush on him, at least not since Fitzgerald Svensson served me eviction papers with a side of insults disguised as flirting.

Now he keeps showing up at my sister’s dates.
Yes, it’s a group activity. We’re recreating our toxic childhood dynamics here, m’kay?
Which means he must be interested… right?
Only problem—he’s hanging around me instead of her.

But it’s an even bigger problem when I wake up one night pinned by a six-foot-five male with his hand over my mouth, his knee spreading my legs, whispering in my ear, “Surprise, Creampuff.”

This is a standalone romantic comedy with a food delivery addicted dog, a hilarious Granny and a heroine of a certain age who has lowered her standards. HEA guaranteed!

Do people really find this funny? This old fashioned slapstick laughing at people not with them?
I am surprised how highly rated this was it wasn’t funny and I found it really cringe.

Parts of this were so much fun, but what let my reading experience down were the almost constant one liners. Overload... Some of the romance scenes were cringe, but they are like that in all this author's books. Still, I couldn't stop reading. 3.5 ⭐ 😂

This book was hilarious. Gran especially!!! "the floors are heated like the trailer you raised your kids in." I died laughing. I enjoyed watching Fitz struggle with his emotions. I believe it was an appropriate title for this book. Some moments were cringy but I loved it.

A weird stalker rom-com.
I didn’t like Winnie’s family, I found them all so insensitive to Winnie and quite annoying. I was actually horrified by some of the things they did and said.
Some bits were funny, but I didn’t really LOL as much as I hoped.
A reasonably entertaining read.

I am 54% into this book and have questioned numerous times if I’m being rage baited. If not I’m curious as to the mental state of the others who rated this higher than 2 out of 5. Surely they must be family members or paid for ratings then.

Mr. Emotionally Unstable? Okay, maybe (?). Not as bad/unstable is my other favourite stalker book MMCs though and not nearly as infuriating as the FMC’s family. They are relentlessly toxic. While times it can be humorous, it needs to be toned down drastically. My least favourite is the mother and her “I raised you better…”, which could but should not be a drinking game unless you want to be plastered. They bulldoze over the FMC constantly, using and abusing their status as “family” and cater to everyone else to save face and gain … I don’t even really know.

The FMC is supposed to be this intelligent, successful business boss babe. Yet she allows everyone to invade her life and take over. Her protests are pathetic and have the impact a tiny mouse squeak would at a maxed out concert. And while maybe that may be an indication of how while she’s successful she may not be really that strong, because her foundation/family/up bringing has always belittled her. She’s a grown ass woman, and a boss babe. Where’s her back bone?!

So far 54% in it reads as a wannabe female written Adam Sandler creation, but worse? I don’t mind some of his stuff out there but this is so far taking everything I hate in his “comedies” x50. At least Sandler has redeeming character qualities sprinkled in throughout. I’m still waiting for something this far in. I desperately want Win to drink milk and grow a backbone so I’ll finish but prognosis is not favourable.

Winnie Peterson is a former investment banker turned business owner. She owns Brew and Browse which she has expanded to several franchises in Seattle, she owns her own house and has an overweight border collie addicted to take out orders, life is good. Then her family shows up on her doorstep, and they have decided to move in with her. Oh, and it seems she has acquired a stalker, or is it two stalkers, or is it... Enter Fitzgerald “Fitz” Svensson, billionaire and owner of several sports teams. He immediately rubs Winning the wrong way, and she bans him from her businesses, but Fitz is determined and won’t accept that, so he buys her building. But Fitz has decided that he isn’t going give up that easily, she is the woman for him, and he will do anything to prove it to her. Including getting rid of her stalker and proving to her that she is the woman he wants.
Holy cow, I couldn’t stop laughing. I love this author and her books! In this book, well let’s just say that both Winnie and Fitz are a little crazy, well, OK, maybe Fitz is a lot crazy. I loved them both. This book had me hooked from the first page. As always, there is a lot of steam, some hysterically funny situations that had me gasping for breath, a surprising and unexpected twist or two in the plot, and a happily ever after. I loved this book and highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys a fantastic laugh out loud read.

“Winnie is the rarest thing I’ve had in years. I’m completely consumed by her.”

Mr. Emotionally Unstable is a chaotic, high energy romp that leans all the way into its unhinged charm. At the center of the story is Fitz, a hero who doesn’t just pursue the heroine — he stalks her with the single minded intensity of someone who treats obsession like a full time job. He’s bold, intrusive, and wildly over the top, and the book never pretends otherwise. His antics, from showing up uninvited to crossing boundaries with alarming confidence, create a kind of comedic tension that keeps the story buzzing.

Winnie, meanwhile, is a fascinating mix of contradictions. She’s sharp, capable, and successful in her professional life, yet she struggles to stand up to the people closest to her and has a history of choosing all the wrong men.

When Fitz and Winnie collide, the chemistry is instant and explosive. Their dynamic is messy, funny, and full of sparks — the kind of pairing where you can’t look away even when you’re cringing at their choices. The family drama, the banter, and the sheer absurdity of their interactions create a blend of humor and heat that makes the story fly by.

Overall, it’s an entertaining, offbeat read that embraces its own madness. If you enjoy romance with big personalities, chaotic energy, and a hero who takes “persistent” to a whole new level, this one delivers.

Mr. Emotionally Unstable is a fun RomCom and the third book featuring one of the Seattle Svensson brothers.
Cheese and Crackers but those Svenssons bothers are over the top, and luckily it doesn’t prevent them from finding that one woman who compliments their crazy.
In this story Fitzgerald and Winnie find each other, well he kinda finds her first, and his courtship ritual is off the wall hilarious.
Winnie is in her thirties, just a tad older than Fitz but its not going to be an issue because he is already visiting her café, Brew & Browse, and breaking into her house doing chores for her when she isn’t there, and just outright stalking…only she doesn’t know its him yet, and has been steadily crushing on him on a daily basis when he visits the café.
Yes Fitz keep denying to yourself that in a couple of weeks you’ll be over her and maybe it will be true…NOT!
I enjoyed this perfectly written story and the amazing characters, and animals that had me chuckling all the way through the book.
Steamy, sweet at times with family dynamics, drama, and OH BOY, when Winnie’s family comes for a long visit the household energy becomes intense and puts a crimp in Fitz’s sneaky housework.
Lots of good reading ahead in this standalone dual POV entertaining story. HEA.

Winnie quit her investment banker job to open her own bakery bookshop Brew and Browse. She now owns several locations throughout the city, has her own home, and an overweight border collie named Fidget. Her life is great, including the man breaking in and cleaning her home, leaving her expensive gifts and flirty notes. Should she be worried... maybe, but not when there's 5 star takeout in the fridge and Egyptian cotton sheets on her bed! Then it all falls apart when her crazy overbearing family moves in, she has not one but two mysterious "watchers", and the hot Billionaire threatens to shut down her bakery if she refuses to go out with him.
This story is truly unhinged (but in a hilariously entertaining way)! It's more than just the MMC that's unstable 😆 Maybe if I'd started with book 1 of the Svenssons, their family dynamic would make a little more sense. I can see where Fitz gets his OTT possessiveness with such a large family. And, as in a lot of this author's books, the fmc's family has a type: overbearing family who take advantage, the beautiful thin sister, the psycho granny. Overall, the story was a bunch of entertaining chaos and spice.

Alina Jacobs is always good for a ridiculously funny story. This one has the suitor already in the nut zone as he stalks the object of his affection by breaking into her home and cleaning it, doing her laundry, fixing meals, etc.

It turns out that Fitz, a billionaire with apparently more money than sense, is the culprit. It appears he noticed Winnie in her cafe where she in turn had been eyeballing him. She is immensely attracted to him but doesn’t feel she’s in his league. He definitely does.

A huge cast of characters including but not limited to her family who moves in with her when her sister loses her NHL meal ticket,* Winnie’s best friend, one of her employees, Fitz’s brothers and half brothers (long story), a frenemy, above mentioned NHL player, a psycho neighbor, and her border collie.

Winnie and Fitz have one of the oddest courtships one could ever hope for with meddling, misunderstandings and mishaps aplenty. It miraculously all works out in the end and there’s a short bonus story, Mrs. Not Right Now

Question: How did all these Svenssons get so rich? (I assume the family in other parts of the country are also wealthy)

*I don’t know about you but I sure as hell wouldn’t wait around fifteen years for a marriage proposal.

Winnie, a successful chain bakery owner has sworn no more men. Carolina, her bestie is always encouraging her to date. Winnie has a complicated life with a trainee Olive who cannot catch on, an annoying customer Fitzgerald who, after being tossed out presents her with paper. She also has a stalker, not your normal type, this one cleans, does laundry and cooks for her all while she is at work. Scary right? She arrives home and a car pulls up. It is her younger sister who has been tossed out of her living conditions with her rich boyfriend. Along with her sister are her parents and grandmother moving in and taking over. So now her goal is to find her sister a rich boyfriend so the family can get out of her home. Between Grandma's attempt to find rich men for both granddaughters, We have Fitzgerald. He is in a way backwards. His younger years were spent in a compound of a polygamist, his dad. The boys survive and each have their quirks. Things get kind of creepy but as you get to know the whys and reasons for behavior this turns to a romantic comedy that is most enjoyable

Stalker rom com, billionaire, he falls first, more than one stalker lol, and hot hot HOT spice!

Warning the dirty scenes do get a little dark and are very very very spicy.. But they are easy to skip and not miss a plot line. The author even warns you the chapters at the beginning.

This is not the first book in the series, but it can be read as a complete stand-alone. However I think you will get more out of it if you have read the other books as you have met some of the characters before. But don’t let that deter you. This can be a stand-alone. But it will make you want to read all the other books!

You will get some fun little Easter eggs though if you have read some of the other series. But they are just minor, so if you haven't read the books you won't miss anything. But if you have the Easter eggs will give you quite a giggle.

I listened to the audiobook of this, and loved it! I think that hearing the voices gives you so much more as a reader. You really can feel the emotions. You connect much quicker to the characters as well. These narrators were top notch.

This is hands down one of the funniest reads of the year. There were so many moments where I was involuntarily giggling that by hubby thought I was having a fit!
Winnie is the best character. She is funny, gets into the worst situations and she’s a good person. She does have the unfortunate habit of falling in lust with her stalker. Fitz AKA Mr. Tall Dark and Stalkerish, thinks Winnie is the best thing since sliced bread. I mean, who breaks into someone’s home, tidies up and does the washing and the washing up? That’s not fair. I want someone to do that for me!
I love Fitz and Winnie, but Winnie’s family make the best characters. Gran is hysterical, and Kathy is a bit irritating at first, but by the end of the book, she is so funny. I couldn’t stop laughing after the Police scene and the scene with the knife.
The writing is genius as this book had so many wonderful moments.
This is an absolutely brilliant read.

DNF - I quit after chapter 2. The scene is childish and dialogue is ridiculous for those that get secondhand embarrassment (me!).
A 30 some year old woman who owns a cafe is hiding behind the counter because her crush “the guy” is there…
“The guy” should have been told not to come back after saying the new girls tits were fake. Not after the FMC makes an ass of herself. It’s not awkwardly charming. It’s making herself look like an idiot.
Her friend shouts out that if the new girl can get dates so can FMC right in front of him… who does this? Apparently the usual BFF character does.
Chapter 2 almost had me thinking I would continue reading the book and then her family shows up and force their way into her house to move in… nope.
I always want to like Alina Jacob’s books but this is something I just can’t get through right now… maybe if I tell myself it’s supposed to be a spoof of romance novels… idk

when you have a stalker problem

Alina delivers with another of the Svensson brothers is hit by love except Fitz might not go about things in a typical way, he just wants to protect and take care of his woman. It just takes a while before he actually admits it is him that’s sorting laundry, cleaning dishes and filling the fridge with gourmet treats for her and her dog when he breaks into her house and the regular.
Winnie just wants a quiet life and enjoys the stranger that just seems to want to look out for her but when stalkers multiply and the family moves in the quiet vanishes and life couldn’t be more unsettled. Can a HEA ensue?
Plenty of laughs along the way with a good serving of carbs.

Knowing how Salinger and McCarthy were, I figured that Fitz would be slightly obsessive and unhinged. I don’t think I was fully prepared though for the level of possession he felt and calling Winnie his stuff. As her first stalker Fitz did some things that were absolutely dubious consent.
Knox…the reason that Winnie’s family moves in with her and just steamrolls over her wants and wishes and takes over her life, he’s a massive douche. You’ll hate him with good reason.
Back to Fitz…the man needs therapy to deal with his unresolved issues. He could absolutely be a hoarder. I really enjoyed Salinger and McCarthy but Fitz had me wanting to DNF at various points. Also, if you do not like the daddy kink, you won’t want to read this.

Somehow I made it to 59%, but I just can’t keep reading this. It’s basically rage bait at this point.

Clearly others liked it, but for me the FMC who’s supposed to be a strong bada** boss lets her incredibly toxic, whiny, greedy absolutely DELUSIONAL family walk all over her constantly. She has no spine at all. She hides behind her own stores counter at the very start! She’s what-30? And the MMC? I honestly don’t remember much about him because I personally found him very bland and cookie cutter. The FMCs family is just a big group of gold digging a**holes. Honestly the dog seemed to be the most intelligent one - brining correct wine and ingredients out.

Personally nothing about this book has been enjoyable for me. The over the top characters, plot, and humour? Pass.

I had the best time with this story. It was absolutely hilarious. Winnie is such a cute woman. Owns her own bakery, has a cute food addicted dog, but then her family moves in. And granny likes to meddle in her life. But the biggest issue, she has a stalker…but can she really complain about him? He cleans her house.
This was funny, so off the wall, you can’t help but love it. Especially when you find out the it’s Fitz that’s doing the stalking and has a huge attraction towards her. I loved how original this was. It was written so well. This is the first time I’ve read this author, and I’ll definitely be going back to read more.

Oh boy! Man, this was an interesting read. I'm not even honestly entirely sure where to start. Soooooooooo I would give this book 5 stars if it was only based on spice level- but overall, this book was just so all over the place that I had to go with a solid 3 stars instead of 5. Let's go with the FMC first. She's kind of badass, but I feel like her body insecurities that are harped on throughout the book sort of take away from what a neat character she could be. Then we have Fitz. Hmmmm. He just never really did it for me. I mean I think the author was going for super eccentric billionaire, but I mean he truly sort of just came off as a nut bag to me. There were some fun side characters- love out of control grandmas, etc., but I just couldn't ever fully get into/buy this story.

Jacobs's books are repetitive: larger-sized, not attractive female sex addicts who relish degrading themselves covered in bodily fluids that are given willingly and frequently and perversely by hot, built, amazing, rich men. Whacky family, sexually perverted grannies, weird but hot sisters. It's a great formula . . . until it's not. Both the FMC and her lover are abusive and psychotic and really mentally unstable. This was a tough one to work through probably because I've read this exact same story, possibly even the same dialogue, in her other books. I really want to like her writing because I think she can be witty, but this borders on tiresome. Wash, rinse, spin, repeat.

I loved this book! It had everything I love in a Rom Com, from annoying but loveable family members to eccentric friends / employees. Winnie defies the usual rom com formula in that whilst she works in a bakery / coffee shop and has family issues, she owns a chain of them and left a high powered finance job to do so. I loved how intelligent and capable she is but at the same time attracted to Fitz who as the title suggests is not exactly emotionally stable. His stalker activities are hilarious, especially breaking in to clean the bathroom and leave take away food I the fridge. Fidget the Border Collie is the best animal sidekick to date though, with her ability to deliver wine and snacks in stressful moments and even knock up a cake in the microwave. I laughed so much whilst I read this and was sad to get to the end.

If you're new to this world of Alina's, better strap in for the ride. You'll find an odd and snarky FMC, her weird and overbearing family, a quirky and foul mouthed granny, and a hot as sin MMC that has more than a few issues that therapy can never fix.

That's the baseline list of ingredients for her stories. And this does not miss the mark.

There are elements of CNC and also a scene where you worry that the FMC Winnie will get an infection. Iykyk. Fun story. I wish the characters differed a bit more.

DNF’d. Gave up at 49%. This was so disappointing. For a romantic comedy there was no romance and no comedy. The h was completely TSTL. She was snarky, clueless and bitter. Her jealousy of her sister and total lack of spine was grating. The whole premise of finding her gold digging sister a new mark was dumb and such an ick. Yes, H was a man-child weirdo but still he could have done better. Granny pushing them to be or at least be like sex workers was just weird and not funny or zany. I see what this author was trying to do, but this did not work.

Reviews were mixed so I tentatively started reading. And I loved it. Winnie seemed like an intelligent and independent woman. I loved that she had a stalker that cleaned and left food and notes. And her dog Fidget is just nuts.

But it started to get a bit much. I want to say it was trying too hard but maybe that’s unfair?
Or maybe not?

And the sex. Now don’t get me wrong I’m no prude but I didn’t expect all the sex in this book. It just didn’t seem to fit.
So in conclusion it started well but fizzled for me.

Wow. For the very first time with one of this author's books I'm not quite sure what to write. For me there was actually too much s------x, and violent at that and not really consensual. I enjoyed the story and the little dog, but it seemed to have too many dark themes. It really seems like it was written by someone else. My apologies to the author for four stars instead of my usual five for her books. But it really did make me feel uncomfortable.

Lots of humor on the bumpy way to a very HEA!
I love that Winnie is a successful business woman who does not need to be saved. But her choices in men are pretty questionable, and she lets others walk all over her. Fitzgerald is a wounded Svensson and needs a lot of healing so he can let himself be loved. Luckily their wounds match up very well and together they find their very unique (and spicy) HEA.
