Everything has been turned upside down in the Kingdom of Velyasa. With news of Sunfall’s destruction and Maverick’s arrival, the nobility are split on how to best defend their kingdom. While Adelaide and Mars are convinced of Jupiter’s growing threat, the kingdom stands divided on whether Jupiter or the former citizens of Sunfall are a greater peril. Adelaide and Mars must set out to convince the nobility of the need to prepare for war with Jupiter, all while finding new ways to protect the kingdom unaided.
Adelaide’s responsibilities continue to grow. Between unraveling the mysteries of her unnamed, patron god and working with the scholars, Adelaide’s power is rising. The Siraltona whispers to her, begging her to embrace her true nature, regardless of the consequences. She fears the very thing she once prayed for may become the root of her undoing. Determined, Adelaide grapples with what it means to have a magic as deadly as the Siraltona.
Evil is on the rise. Velyasa can’t afford to stall the coming war much longer. The gods are growing impatient. Velyasa can’t withstand their wrath again. This time, they may not be left standing.
Queen of Light sets Adelaide at the center stage of power. The magic she prayed for isn’t at all what she thought; blessings from the gods always come with strings attached. This third installment of the Tales of the Shadow Folk will give readers a firsthand look at what it means to wear a crown weighed down by shadow, light, and wicked gifts from the gods.

“Power wrapped in silk, shadow, and the sharp edge of prophecy.” 👑⚔️
Queen of Light absolutely devoured me from chapter one. Eris Marriott took everything I loved about this series and turned the intensity up until it felt like the pages themselves were humming with magic and impending war.
Adelaide’s journey in this book was phenomenal. Watching her step into power while simultaneously fearing what that power could turn her into? Deliciously haunting. The Siraltona felt less like magic and more like a living thing curling through the story, whispering temptation into every scene. Every choice Adelaide makes carries weight, and you can feel the crown pressing heavier and heavier onto her shoulders.
The political tension in Velyasa was chef’s kiss perfection. No one agrees, alliances feel fragile, and the kingdom is balancing on the edge of a blade while the gods loom overhead like storm clouds waiting to split open. Every conversation felt layered with danger, secrets, and the possibility of betrayal.
And Mars??? Obsessed. The loyalty, the tension, the unwavering support mixed with the constant threat of war created such an emotionally charged dynamic. Their relationship felt forged in fire and sharpened by grief, duty, and love.
This book delivered: ✨ High stakes fantasy politics ✨ Dangerous god-touched magic ✨ A heroine unraveling under the weight of destiny ✨ Ancient powers with terrifying consequences ✨ Atmospheric worldbuilding that feels drenched in moonlight and ruin ✨ Emotional devastation sprinkled between moments of hope
The ending left me staring at the wall like I’d personally been summoned by the gods themselves. This series keeps expanding in the best possible way, and Queen of Light might honestly be my favorite installment yet.
If you love fantasy where the magic feels beautiful and horrifying, where crowns come with curses, and where every blessing from the gods tastes a little poisonous… this one belongs on your shelf immediately. 🖤
Queen of Light continues to expand the world of Velyasa in such an immersive way. The stakes feel higher than ever, with political tension, looming war, and the ever-present influence of the gods adding layers to the story. Watching Adelaide step more fully into her power and all the responsibility that comes with it, was especially compelling.
One of my favorite parts of this installment remains the relationship between Adelaide and Mars. Their dynamic continues to grow in a way that feels natural and engaging, and I loved seeing how they support each other as everything around them shifts. The side characters also really shine here, adding depth and personality to an already rich world.
This book leans more into development and setup, giving readers a deeper understanding of the magic, the gods, and the larger conflicts at play. It builds a strong foundation for what’s coming next, and I’m very excited to see where the story goes from here.
I love Adelaide and Mar’s romance. I also did not see the ending coming. I loved the writing and the world. I loved the light vs dark magic system in the book. I also loved exploring Adelaide’s feelings for Mars. I loved how we explored the war better between Jupiter and Mars’s kingdoms. I liked exploring Jupiter’s vampire side. I also loved the side characters of charlotte, and the other nobles. I loved the yearning and banter. Overall, a great read. I want to thank the author for giving me the chance to read the book early. Can’t wait to read the next book in the series.

Queen of Light by Eris Marriott, provided via Crowns and Chaos PR, continues expanding the world, political tension, and magical stakes introduced throughout the Tales of the Shadow Folk series while pushing Adelaide even further into her role as queen.
One of my favorite aspects of this installment was seeing Adelaide reunited with her brother after returning to the kingdom she now rules. Their dynamic added emotional depth to the story because while Adelaide has fully stepped into leadership and power, her brother still remembers the version of her from before the crown and responsibilities.
Watching him slowly adapt to her role as queen created some of the strongest emotional moments throughout the book.
I also enjoyed seeing Adelaide continue growing into both her magic and leadership while navigating the increasing pressure surrounding the kingdom, the looming war, political division, and the danger tied to her growing abilities.
The fantasy and political elements throughout the story helped keep the stakes feeling consistently high while still leaving room for emotional character moments between the main cast.
Mars also continued to be a strong presence throughout the story, and I appreciated the continued development of their relationship alongside the larger kingdom conflicts happening around them.
One of the biggest standouts for me overall was definitely the ending. The final twist and direction the story took genuinely surprised me in a good way and immediately made me want to continue into book four to see what happens next.
Overall, Queen of Light is a strong continuation of the series filled with political tension, magical growth, emotional reunions, rising stakes, and an ending that leaves readers eager for the next installment.
With the whole world seeming to hang in the balance, that ending has me ready for the next book and excited to how all this build up will conclude!
With the FMC now reunited with her brother in the kingdom she is now queen of, he must learn to accept her knew path in life and overcome his bias against vampires in order to get their help to win back his kingdom. Our FMC must also work to scribe down their history at the same time she is researching to help unlock her full powers and control them and determine which god is the patron of her power. As the group learns more about the truth of the evil brewing in her old kingdom, the rush is on to help her master these powers and find other ways to protect her new people.
This book was just as exciting, if not more so than the first with all the tension building up to what seems like will end up being a massive battle in the next book. I enjoyed seeing the FMC come into her powers more and work so hard to try to save a people who have yet to fully accept her but she’s protective of them all the same. I also love how Mars continues to support her through her struggles and urges her on that she is stronger than she knows. There was plenty of court politics and uncovering of secrets that had me hooked into this book. I can’t wait to see how it all concludes! My rating 4.5/5!
Thanks to the author for the gifted copy, all opinions given are my own!
This is the third book in the Tales of the Shadow Folk series following Adelaide as the main character.
In this book we continue to be entirely in her viewpoint - which gives you only one perspective of what is going on. Because of that, to me, this book felt a lot slower.
We got a lot on inner monologue of how frustrated Adelaide felt about her situation and her own powers. Although I appreciate the journey she needs to go on, the repetition of these thoughts and feelings grew tiresome to me.
Because of this inner journey Adelaide is going on to work on her powers and figure that out a few things, the action is very slow. There are a few moments where we glean some more information but just as Adelaide is, we the reader are very much in the dark.
I think I will only fully appreciate what is in this book when I read the next in the series as I have an feeling there are things set out in this book that will come to fruition in the next. There are Easter eggs in here that I’m sure will have a massive impact but we won’t fully appreciate until Adelaide sees it.
Because of this, I rated the book as 4 stars. You can’t read this book in isolation, it’s very much a journey and we won’t fully appreciate it until future events transpire.
The third book in the Tales of the Shadowfolk series picks up right where Book 2 left off. If you haven’t read Books 1 and 2 - go back and read those NOW! This is not a standalone, y’all. If you are all caught up, then here we go with book 3. Sunfall has fallen likely to Jupiter. Adelaide has accepted Mars. Her brother has arrived, and she has an unknown goddess on her side to help her. This is a story of shifting alliances that make it hard to know which path is the righteous one - if any path really is. Who is really in the right? This is a story of a jealous baby brother who wants more power than his big brother and will chase that power at any cost. This is a story of court intrigue, and a story about what happens when the light joins with the darkness. If you’ve read books 1 and 2, you are in for a fantastic adventure with book 3. If you haven’t read them - again, GO READ THEM NOW!
Holy cow this book may be my favorite of the 3, and I am now eager for Book 4. Adelaide and Mars love solidifies well beyond that love/hate teetering to unbridled love. Jupiter is more than just a vampire to be feared and Sunfall is in far more danger than initially thought. There are so many new developments, yet so much growth in supporting characters such as Sherry, Charlotte, Ronald, and other nobles. Just FYI, Ronald and Sherry are my favorites and a little twist with Charlotte makes her almost have a heart.
There is so much to unpack, yet so much to look forward to and so many questions answered all in less than 350 pages. My new favorite character calls Adelaide by the nickname, “Petal.” It’s adorable!
Oh my word what a book! Eris Marriott has done it again! This series has been such a ride and I am so here for it. This book is a build up and does have some slower parts that are a bit harder to get through but that’s to be expected I think. There are even some points I want to shake Adelaide and yell at her as she constantly second guesses herself. But Adelaide and Mars are still absolute couple goals for sure! And all the reveals in this story were so good, with so many more to come! From falling in love with Mars’s sons to my heart breaking for Maverick, this book was amazing! This story has sucked me in and will not let me go, I absolutely CANNOT wait for the next book and I am so sad I have to wait so long! And Finch better be there!
I read this book as an ARC and I really did like the characters and the story. There is so much description throughout it that you get a clear idea of what everything looks like. It has a lot of depth and even though it does have some adult content it isn't the basis of everything, the conflict is the major part of the story.
Each book in the series just keeps getting better. The world building continues to grow. There’s more complexities. I seriously love Mars and I am eager to see Adelaide grow into herself more and gain more confidence. I can’t wait for the next one. Respectfully I need it asap!
Queen of Light is a fantastic read! I’m really enjoying this series as a whole and the political fantasy aspect that is present in this installment. The character development is phenomenal and I can’t wait to read the next book! Thank you to Crowns & Chaos PR for the gifted ebook.
This was another great continuation of the Tales of the Shadow Folk series. Eris Marriott does such a fantastic job of quickly pulling you into every book of this series, and Book 3 was no different! This was another quick read, and I love where this story is going. I definitely feel like this is my favorite book of the series so far!
The stakes in this one are higher than ever. We continue to have some really great political intrigue in this series, and the looming war and meddling gods really help add to the tension that’s building throughout this book.
Adelaide is growing stronger in her power every day, and I feel like we’re really getting a better understanding of the magic in this world now as well. I think Book 3 has really helped to build a solid foundation for what’s to come in the remaining 2 books of the series.
Thank you so much to Eris Marriott and Crowns and Chaos for the gifted review copy of this one! I can’t wait to see what happens next in this series. 🖤✨
I loved Eris Marriott’s writing so much! I had been waiting for this Arc for a while and was so excited to return to the world of Velyasa.
It was amazing to see Adelaide and Mars again! (Theyre so cute together 🥹) I really enjoyed watching Adelaide’s power grow and seeing how she continues to grow. This was by far my favourite book in the series so far!
I also liked getting to know the side characters better! And ofcourse more about Jupiter 👀
The tension is really building now, and it feels like shit is really gonna go down in the next book. I can’t wait!!
Truly can’t recommend this entire series enough for any fantasy or vampire lover!! ♥️
