Content: - spice: kissing only - language: 2 h-words. 1 use of Lord’s name in vain - TW/CW: death of parent. Grief. Gory artwork.
My thoughts: This is quite possibly one of my new favorite YA books! I loved everything about it. The characters, the story, and the growth. I related so much to Daisy. Her story healed a small part of me and I shed multiple tears. I was put in almost the exact same situation as Daisy and just seeing her come through that stronger was so encouraging and healing. I loved Jamie so much. He’s definitely a new favorite MMC. He was awkward and sweet. I love bookish MC’s because it shows that you don’t have be popular, pretty, or athletic to be cool. I really liked Penn and how much she wanted to help Daisy. I was upset at Daisy’s mom and siblings for most of the book but I’m glad they reconciled at the end. The end epilogue with Beck and Nellie was so sweet! I loved both books in this series so much and 100% recommend!
Tropes: 💗best friends to lovers 🌼fake dating 💗he falls first 🌼eldest daughter FMC 💗bookish MMC 🌼he takes care of her 💗no spice YA romance 🌼single pov
Thank you to the author for the ARC copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Although this is Book 2 of a series it can absolutely be read as a standalone!! Daisy and Jamie are literally the epitome of #CouplesGoals!! It doesn't get better than this!! And once you meet Jamie he will ruin every single future boyfriend for you - I'm talking book boyfriends, and those IRL too - whether they might be yours, your sister's, your daughter's or your best friend's!!! Nobody is ever going to measure up!! Daisy is navigating A LOT!! Trying to manage the chaos of looking after her four younger siblings, while still dealing with all the emotions that accompany the loss of a parent and doing whatever she can to support the one they still have is taking its toll. Being waitlisted by the only college she applied for is a devastating blow, but if she can just get through the summer in one piece then she can consider her next steps. She didn't count on her ex arriving back in town and hanging out with her group of friends. It’s a bit of an unwanted complication. Thankfully her besties, twins Jamie and Nellie (who brings her boyfriend Beck along too), are right there to get her through what looks like is going to be a rough few weeks. And when Nellie decides that a fake romance is just what's needed to distract Daisy and send her ex a clear message, Jamie surprisingly steps into the role with unexpected enthusiasm! This is a story with so much heart and emotion. It dealt with so many of the issues that young adults face when it comes to friendships, romantic relationships and having those difficult conversations with the people who matter the most, and who you tend to hurt the most because you just know which buttons to push. I absolutely loved this book!! And of course as soon I was done, I rushed over to Amazon so that I could download the first book: Beauty and the Bad Boy (Nellie and Beck's story). Thank you so much to the author for sending me an ARC! You have a brand new fan!!
I received an advance reader copy of "Beauty and the Bookworm", and it was exactly the cozy, heartwarming read I needed.
I gave this book 4 stars, not because I had complaints, but because I reserve 5 stars for the rare books that completely astound me. I genuinely enjoyed every minute of this story.
Daisy and Jamie were both so lovable, and I adored watching their relationship unfold. Fake dating and friends-to-lovers are two of my favorite tropes, and while I used to avoid friends-to-lovers, Sarah Sutton reminded me why it can be so special when it's written well. Their relationship felt natural, sweet, and incredibly swoony.
One of my favorite things about Sarah Sutton's books is how real her characters feel. Daisy wasn't perfect, and that's exactly why I connected with her. I found myself relating to some of her struggles and loved watching her grow into someone who was stronger, more confident, and genuinely servant-hearted. Her flaws, doubts, and mistakes all felt believable, making it easy to experience the story right alongside her.
Sarah has such a gift for writing wholesome contemporary YA romances that leave you smiling. There's an innocence and sincerity to her stories that keeps me coming back, and this book was no exception.
The only thing I found myself wishing for was a glimpse into Jamie's perspective. I completely understand why the story stayed in Daisy's point of view, it preserves so much of the emotional tension, but I would absolutely devour a bonus chapter or two from Jamie's perspective someday.
Overall, "Beauty and the Bookworm" was a cozy, feel-good read that pulled me right out of a reading slump. If you're looking for a sweet, heartfelt YA romance with lovable characters, wonderful chemistry, and all the cozy vibes, I'd definitely recommend picking this one up.
A masterpiece. A YA rom-com movie-like masterpiece!! I loved this book SO SO much! I'm usually not a great fan of the friends-to-lovers trope, but ever since Jamie and Daisy's first appearance in Beauty and the Bad Boy, I knew those two were perfect for each other.
Something that surprised me in both books (and that I consider one of their best aspects) is how Sarah crafted psychologically interesting and deep characters. Daisy's burnout, her management of her emotions, her bond with her siblings, her mom, Nellie, Dalton, and of course Jamie, were all written in such a compelling and realistic way that I had to stop reading every once in a while to analyze everyone's actions and motives 🤭. Another thing that was masterfully done was how there was never an imbalance between the sweetness of the story and the darkness of the heavy topics; they were developed naturally as Daisy's arc progressed. She is really just a girl, and SO relatable (even if just a little blind to certain signs 🙃).
Now, Jamie, sweet, swoony Jamie. He was an authentic green forest! I knew I'd love him as an MMC, and yet he exceeded my expectations. He is so incredibly sweet; definitely the standard. The way he respects, admires, sees, and takes care of Daisy... 🤧🤌🏻. Like him, I'm kind of an easy crier, but never before had I been about to cry because something was cute in a book. I was tearing up over some of Jamie's gestures throughout the book. And when I wasn't, I either wanted to give him a hug or was swooning.
The little Carmichaels steal the spotlight, and Nellie and Beck's appearances were lovely! And the ending to the book? The perfect one! This duology is, without a doubt, one of my absolute favorites of the year 😌. Can't praise it enough!!
I received an advance reader copy of this book, and I absolutely loved it.
The first book completely hooked me, so I honestly didn't think this one would be able to top it, but somehow, it did. I completely fell in love with Daisy and Jamie, and from the very first chapter, I was emotionally invested in their story.
I suffered so much alongside Daisy. More than anything, I found myself deeply relating to her and everything she has to carry every single day. The weight of her responsibilities, the fear of never being able to pursue her dreams, and the constant worry about letting the people she loves down made her feel incredibly real. She's such a strong yet sensitive character, and I admired her resilience so much. I absolutely adored her.
Jamie completely won me over. Ever since the previous book, when we learned about his "betrayal" and his decision to transfer to another university, I'd been holding a bit of a grudge against him because I just couldn't understand why he had done it. But this book gave me the perspective I needed, and I couldn't help but fall for him. He's genuinely such a sweetheart. He's patient, caring, and loves Daisy so deeply that it was impossible not to root for him.
Their relationship felt so natural and emotional. I loved watching them throw themselves into the fake dating arrangement, only to slowly realize that the feelings they were pretending to have had been there all along. They became each other's safe place, constantly supporting one another through their fears and insecurities.
This book made me smile, broke my heart more than once, and had me completely invested from beginning to end. Daisy and Jamie have easily become one of my favorite couples.
Sarah Sutton has such a talent for writing young adult romance that feels genuine, emotional, and impossible to stop reading. From the very first chapter, I was completely invested in Daisy and Jamie's story, and before I knew it, I had finished the book in a single sitting.
What starts as a fake dating arrangement quickly turns into something far more heartfelt. I loved how naturally Daisy and Jamie's relationship developed. Every conversation, every lingering glance, and every quiet moment between them made their growing connection feel authentic rather than rushed. Their chemistry was sweet without losing the emotional weight behind it.
What stood out to me most, though, was Daisy's personal journey. Beyond the romance, she's carrying responsibilities and pressures that no teenager should have to face alone. Watching her navigate family expectations while trying to figure out what she truly wanted for herself added so much depth to the story. It made me root for her just as much as I rooted for the romance.
Jamie was an absolute standout. Patient, supportive, and endlessly thoughtful, he proved that the best love interests aren't just charming—they show up when it matters most. He brought so much warmth to the story, and every scene with him left me smiling.
This book balances romance and emotional growth beautifully, making it much more than a typical fake dating story. If you're looking for a YA romance with lovable characters, meaningful family dynamics, slow-burn chemistry, and plenty of heart, this is one I highly recommend.
Thank you to Sarah Sutton for the opportunity to read an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
🧡𝐦𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬: first off, thank you so much to sarah sutton for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review! not only was this my first ARC, but also one of my favorite reads this year.
this book was absolutely amazing! i finished it in two days because i just could not put it down. i connected with the characters so much that it actually had me crying at times 🥲 sarah sutton DEFINITELY knows how to write a romance book. she did best-friends-to-lovers perfectly and she had me giggling over the "it's always been you" trope.
🧡𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬!
➳ daisy: as the eldest daughter, daisy was extremely relatable for me. she definitely made some dumb decisions at times, but i still loved her so much.
➳ jamie: i swear my boyfriend standards get higher with every book i read. i loved jamie soooo much. he was so protective of daisy and an amazing friend to her. i mostly loved how much he loves books 🤭
➳ nellie: i loved her so much! i will definitely be reading beauty and the bad boy soon!
➳ dalton: let's just say i was ready to punch him...
➳ daisy's siblings: they made this book so funny in my opinion, even if they were brats sometimes. i especially loved theo and penn
🧡𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥𝐥: this book was amazing! i would recommend this book to literally anyone and i will definitely be reading more sarah sutton very soon!
Okay, I need to know what Sarah is putting in these books because I’m ADDICTED! 🤩
Guys… JAMIE. Dude, you are KILLING ME!! This man had me blushing by CHAPTER 4!!! I genuinely don’t think I can prepare you enough for all the moments Jamie absolutely melts your heart. 🥰💕
Can we also talk about Daisy? She is a WAY better big sister than I would ever be. 😂 She loves her siblings so fiercely and looks after them like they’re her own kids. She carries so much guilt over some of her choices when, honestly, I thought they were completely valid. 😂 She’s basically a human punching bag and somehow just keeps getting back up. I wanted to give this girl the biggest hug.
Guys… I’m literally STILL smiling like an idiot after finishing this book. 🤭
✨ “When you love someone, you’ll have them in your life any way you can get them. Being her friend was more than enough. In fact, it was an honor.”
✨ “I’d appreciate it… if you kept your hands off my girlfriend.”
✨ “When it’s your friend, sometimes you just do things for them without getting anything in return. And sometimes the happiness of getting to help them is enough.”
GUYS!!!! I’m obsessed with these two, and it’s not even funny. 🤭🤭
Tropes you’ll find in this book: 🌼 Fake Dating 🌼 Friends to Lovers 🌼 Best Friend’s Twin Brother 🌼 Quiet Bookish Boy 🌼 Artist Sunshine Girl 🌼 Overwhelmed Oldest Daughter 🌼 Slow Burn
If this sounds like your kind of book, definitely move it to the TOP of your TBR when it releases! 🥰
I’ve had Sarah’s books on my tbr for so long but this is the first I’ve had chance to read and I loved it so much!! I’ll definitely be working my way through her previous releases as well as any future ones!
This was such a sweet, fun read and had absolutely everything I’d want from a romance book. The characters are so likeable and I love the way the author writes them as well as her humour. The story had so much depth besides the romance and it was portrayed so well. Seeing how much responsibility Daisy had to deal with and watching her figure out her own needs added so many layers and made each character feel so fleshed out. Jamie is a new favourite mmc of mine (I love that he’s the book lover out of the two of them!) he’s so sweet, loyal and funny and I really loved how supportive he was of Daisy and his interactions with her siblings. The other characters were great too especially Nellie and Beck whose book I’m so excited to read. Friends to lovers is one of my favourite tropes and this was done so well! I instantly felt the connection between the two of them and it was really nice to see it grow into something more. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would definitely recommend it, so excited to start reading Sarah’s other books now!
This is, not only my first ARC, but also my first book I got to read from Sarah Sutton.
I do own Beauty and the Bad Boy, but I hadn't yet had a chance to read it.. and after this one, I am eager to start that one.
I began this book last night after finishing a really emotional book - thinking this one wouldn't pull at my heartstrings and it would just be an easy little romcom. I was 50% through before stopping to go to sleep and I was realizing how wrong I was.
This book gripped me in a way I didn't expect. Jamie.. I fell in love with Jamie - as an adult with kids, Jamie is who I will compare my daughters future love interests to. The way he loved, not only Daisy, but the most important things to her.
I remember thinking when I was a few chapters in that I wasn't sure how it would go to read from only Daisy's point of view, being more used to the dual POVs of many other romance novels. It worked and it worked very well.
I don't want to spoil it, so I'll leave off with this: I will read many more books from Sarah. Her word choices were perfect. Her pacing phenomenal. Her plot, glorious. She touched on the darkness within and the way it threatens to consume and I wept and kept going, tears still in my eyes, but a smile on my face to the final word.
**Thank you to the author for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.**
⭐️ 4.5 stars 💖 No spice romance 📖 Release date: July 15, 2026
~~~ Ngl it took me a chapter or two to get invested in “Beauty and the Bookworm”, but once I did it was READ, READ, READ! READ MORE! EMOTION! INTRIGUE! 💥💥💥
Daisy and Jamie’s story is a realistic depiction of a teenager’s transition period between graduating high school and going to college — and the romance aspect that sometimes comes with it. Sutton does an amazing job with this fake dating, friends-to-lovers YA romance, making the arc of the characters, relationships, and life events make sense and be frustrating and heartbreaking all at once.
When I tell you at one point I was SOBBING and had a hard time breathing because my heart hurt SO MUCH for Daisy that it felt like her pain was my pain… yeah, I’m surprised my roommates didn’t check on me. The pain of the unknown, of feeling like a failure, of losing people — it all piles up in her mind. And so it did in my heart.
Love, Sophia 🩷
PS: I signed up for her newsletter so I can read a couple of chapters from Jamie’s POV because while I get the gist of what he was going through, I always appreciate a different perspective.
Do you like a sloooow burn with a MMC bookworm with glasses ? If so, you will love James Brighton!
Beauty and the Bookworm is a fast paced , fun best friend to lovers Romance. Jaime and Daisy are graduating this year which means picking a college and getting accepted and leaving home and making choices . Daisy and Jaime are best friends and Jaime would do anything for Daisy . He’s always been there for her and would do anything for her. “The things I do for you Daisy Carmichael !” It’s the summer before college and they have a lot to figure out . Jaime is the “ boy next door “ type , good with kids , responsible and his nose is always in a book . He brings a book wherever he goes and is in a book club . Daisy is the artsy type and carries a sketch pad and frequently draws figures with amputated limbs and other gruesome scenes. Last summer Daisy had her heart broken and still has not healed that.Will she run into him when he returns home from college, will Jaime and Daisy get into the college of his choice ? Will Daisy’s old flame , Dante change his mind about their break up and ask for her back ? Happy Reading
This is an Arc review from Book Funnel Thank you to @Sarah Sutton
I promise you all, I think Sarah Sutton’s books get better and better with each one I read. She has become a favorite author of mine these last few months. Thank you so much to her for selecting me to read an ARC of her upcoming release. It was such a wonderful surprise when I received that ARC email.
I absolutely LOVED this book. Once I started it, I couldn’t put it down. It has everything that I love in a romance book. We have best friend’s brother, fake dating, bookworm (who is the GUY this time) x artist, slow burn, friends to lovers (done extremely well), tension, no spice, and I would like to add a trope for myself: it’s always been you.
I genuinely loved everything about this book. From the characters especially our main leads, the plot, the yearning, the writing, everything! I absolutely loved Jamie too! He might be my favorite Sutton male lead (but don’t tell the others, haha!).
Sutton is genuinely one of my favorite authors after reading such great sweet romances. I love how her books feel realistic and are a great little escape. Highly recommend this book and her others!
Thank you to the author for providing me with an arc copy for my honest review.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 This book was such a fun and comforting romance read. It had the fluff, the fake dating trope (one of my all time favourites!!), the sensitive and ‘selfless’ mmc, and wonderful progression! I’ll admit, reading about Daisy and Jamie was oftentimes so cute, I lost sleep over them 🙂↕️ one of my new favourite ya reads!! Daisy was such a relatable character and her pain, her fears, and her worries were written so well. She deserved better and I’m so glad that by the end of the book her mother was able to see the toll that taking care of her siblings has placed on her and her life. This book is technically book 2 of the series however I think it can definitely be read as a standalone!! I read this book without reading the first one and I loved it so much, I’ll definitely be reading Nellie and Beck’s story! Thank you so much to the author once again for sending me this arc! You’ve made a huge fan out of me!
Thank you to Sarah Sutton for providing me with an ARC of this book! I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Sarah Sutton does not write romance books for the faint of heart. The longing is next level, the tension is palpable, and the characters are REAL. Daisy is a complicated character with big emotions and some real world problems. I feel like her character is for the big sisters and the overachievers. Her character really touched my heart and I totally fell in love with her. Jaimie is THE BEST. He is everything a boyfriend, fake or otherwise, should be. I wish we could've gotten his POV of a couple scenes and seen the yearning through his eyes. This wasn't a light and funny, fake dating romance; but it was beautiful and tense, and the perfect book for Daisy and Jamie. Due to the emotional depth, I think this would be a good book for an older teen. I couldn't recommend it enough honestly
Sarah Sutton is the queen of swoony, feet-kicking YA romances, and this one didn’t disappoint. I absolutely loved it and had it read in one day. I couldn’t put it down!
Daisy's summer plan definitely didn't include her ex showing back up. So when her best friend Jamie kisses her in front of a party full of people, fake dating suddenly becomes the perfect way to keep her ex at a distance. There's just one problem… pretending gets a lot harder when the feelings start to feel real.
This story was so good, and I also really liked the home life situation with Daisy’s family. Or rather, I didn’t like it! The way Daisy was taken advantage of felt so unfair, and I felt really invested in that situation. I loved how everything was wrapped up in the end.
I definitely recommend this one! I loved it even more than Beauty and the Bad Boy!
I absolutely LOVED this story. Fake dating + friends to lovers done ABSOLUTELY PERFECTLY. Seriously, Sarah Sutton nailed this romance from start to finish. Daisy had so much on her plate, and my heart broke for her so many times. I just wanted to give her the biggest hug. And Jamie... what an absolute cutie. I had a feeling from the beginning he'd be a total dark horse, and he did not disappoint. Sarah's writing flowed so effortlessly that I flew through this book. It was easy to get lost in the story, and before I knew it, I'd reached the end. I haven't read the first book in the series, but after meeting Nellie and Beck, I'm literally running to grab their story next because I need more of these characters!
When you think of swoon moments this book would be it. Jamie and Daisy best friends from the start. When her ex comes back, she needs to prove that she is in fact down and over him! But real feelings begin to develop and things become real. This was so good and you’ll feel all the emotions come out in this.
“I’m looking at you the way I’ve always looked at you.”
“When it’s your friend, sometimes you just do things for them without getting anything in return. And sometimes the happiness of getting to help them is enough.”
“I’d rather orbit you forever than get too close and destroy everything.”
I received an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Wat heb ik genoten van Beauty and the Bookworm! Ik mocht deze ARC ontvangen en dit was precies de lieve YA-romance waar ik zin in had. De band tussen Jamie en Daisy voelde heel natuurlijk en de aantrekkingskracht tussen hen spatte van de pagina's af. Jamie is echt een van de liefste book boyfriends die ik in lange tijd heb gelezen: zorgzaam, geduldig en altijd klaar om Daisy te helpen. Haar thuissituatie vond ik ontzettend verdrietig en ik leefde enorm met haar mee. Gelukkig bracht Jamie precies het licht dat ze nodig had. Fijn dat het boek niet spicy is, waardoor het heel toegankelijk is voor young adults. Een heerlijke aanrader!
Yet another Sarah Sutton book that I didn’t want to put down once I started it!
I very much enjoyed this one, and the story pulled me in right from the start. I immediately liked and related to the main character, and loved seeing her arc throughout the story as she learned about herself, her family dynamic, and chasing her dreams. I adored the main male character- who doesn’t love a caring, thoughtful bookworm?? And Sarah is amazing at writing sweet, swoony love stories with no spice! I loved this one, and would highly recommend it for those who enjoy sweet romance with a deep emotional side, characters you’ll fall in love with, and a plot that will keep you turning pages until the end!
Beauty and the Bookworm is such an amazing read. Daisy and James were best friends but had me rooting for them from the very start. This book is about fake dating your best friend but it turns into something so much more. Something real. This book was by far the slowest burn but the payoff was very much worth it. I really enjoyed how this book was a stand-alone but it connected to Beauty and the Bad Boy so well. I recommend reading book one before reading this one to get even more out of the story. I really didn’t want this book to end. Such a great read. I would definitely recommend it.
(Arc review) This book was amazing! From the start of the book I loved learning a bit of background about Daisy and Jamie, and the fact this books had 3 different troupes in it was so cool. We got to see some fake dating, friends to lovers, and brothers best friend. The way the whole book was executed was incredible. I was kicking my feet and internally screaming. There were so many good quotes that I absolutely adore. I can't wait to read more of her books including beauty and the bad boy which I will be reading asap!
I was so excited when I received this as my first ever ARC! Sarah Sutton is an amazing author and this book did not disappoint! Believe me when I say I could not put this book down. It had me giggling and kicking my feet the whole time. I’ve been rooting for Daisy and Jamie ever since they were first introduced in Beauty and the Bad Boy and it was so sweet to see them get their happy ending. I love, love, loved this book!!
I just finished Beauty and the Bookworm by Sarah Sutton and it was adorable!
I haven't read a contemporary romance in a bit but this one might be the one to bring them back to the top of my TBR pile! This book was amazing with tropes such as best friend brother, fake dating, and it has a slow burn! This is on the top of my summer romance list!
4.8/5 Stars from me! This book releases on July 15!
I absolutely loved this one! I had a hard time putting it down. The characters and plot are well developed and the writing is superb. It's sweet and clean, emotional at times, no cussing and an HEA. It was a pleasure to read. Thanks for the early read Sarah! Tropes: friends to lovers, best friends brother, fake dating
I usually don't read best friends to lovers But I signed up for the ARC just because I saw 'Fake dating' and lemme tell you that it did not disappoint me!!!
This book was a good combination of fake dating and slow burn while showing all the awkward and anxious thought of a teenager!
Wish I could go back to my teenage time and live a love like Daisy
This book has all feels of a rom com! The humor and the romance!!
Jamie is the perfect book boyfriend and if you are lover of the trope he fell first then you’ll love this book and Jamie! Also for the fans of fake dating, this book will sure get you kicking your feet, giggling, and twirling your hair.
So cute and sweet! I love Daisy and Jaime! A great sequel to The Beauty and the Bad Boy, The Beauty and the Bookworm is sweet cute and somewhat of an emotional rollercoaster. Safe and fun for everyone on my opinion! Recommend for hopeless romantics!
Disclaimer: I was provided an advance reader copy by the publisher. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
4.5. I was lucky enough to receive this ARC and when I tell you I DEVOURED it…. I loved the character development, the writing, the characters themselves! This was a great lil YA book! Cannot wait to read more of Sarah’s work!
