This book had the potential to have a higher rating but the FMC had no character development. I’m the beginning you feel for her, understand why she’s stand-offish and are impressed with what she was able to accomplish. Then it’s explained that scents imprint memories, identities, and daily life in the pact and you understand why she was invisible to everyone. Still you sympathize with her because her mate doesn’t recognize her, but once some key details are revealed I expected to see her develop into more than a petty bi**ch. Piper claimed on more than one occasion that she didn’t blame Brad and he had nothing to apologize for but never actually really listened to him or apologized for keeping his son from him for seven years. The chip on her shoulder honestly never fell off, she just became slightly tolerable.
I really liked the premise of this one. I keep getting these ads for various reading apps that are pay per chapter. I didn't realize this one was on kindle (I usually buy on Kobo but do have a cheap kindle for the odd book). Most of the ads involve such unlikable characters that the main female character has to escape from and get revenge on in some form. This one had likeable characters that were in a situation through no fault of their own really, but there was still pain and trauma and things to work through and the story was great. I also seem to like stories that involve a kid. It shows the fatherly side of the main male lead and makes him that much harder to resist. This was an addictive read.
Paid more for this book than I normally would care of starting on an app and then realising it was going to cost a small fortune and finding it on Amazon, was a bit shocked that the Amazon version was equally unedited. The early plot was compelling, great character development, a unique take on the importance of senses in the paranormal world and I love where there is great character involvement of the secondary characters. The last part of the book dragged a bit and it felt almost like it was decided there would be no more character development once the biggest challenge was overcome and unfortunately there was no editing. The spelling grammar and repetitiveness were challenging. I don’t mind retelling a scene from another perspective but it needs to offer something new to the story not just show what you already assumed.
Came for the plot, but utterly distracted by typos
I found the premise of this, an unscentable wolf, unique. The writing, however, is terrible. The book is riddled with typos and is very redundant in places. The Kindle version even has at least one duplicate chapter. Many sentences start without a subject, the wrong homonyms are used in many places, and the phrase "it seemed" appears so many times that it becomes frustrating. I feel like this story had so much promise, but the execution failed.
The book starts very well, a good plot. If you can stand the grammar and spelling errors. By the middle of the book it starts getting so repetitive it becomes boring it had so many opportunities to make it as long as it is 984 pages but evolving the story... nope as predictable as you can think. For the rest of the book. Seeing 3 to 4 point of view of the same situation is so infuriating.
I tried hard to accommodate the voice that this author chose in this book. But they're just not a good enough writer to pull it off. The sentences routinely omit subjects. It feels like reading notes or bullet points rather than narrative. And sometimes it actually interferes with meaning because you don't know who the sentence is about because there's no subject!
But beyond that, it was clunky because the author doesn't seem to understand that you only need to tell us once. Please do not alternate between the points of view of the male and female protagonists and give us both their perspectives on every single thing that occurs. As an author, your job is to figure out how to communicate their perspectives to us without beating us over the head with it.
And it was entirely too long. It was actually ridiculous that this obscenely long book only took place over mere days or weeks. Piper, the female protagonist, was incredibly annoying. She was irrational and angry and antagonistic for most of the book, and it was maddening. I had to skip over huge swaths of the book just to get to the middle, and then, eventually, the ending, which was then in fact quite abrupt. All those shenanigans for a quick wrap up that you could have given us dozens of chapters ago? No. Nobody wants to read pages and pages of pointlessly playing hard to get. Nobody likes a purported heroine who is actually your most annoying girlfriend that you want to avoid at parties.
I do not recommend this book. I regret starting it, but I do not regret skipping to the end to finally be done with it. Good God.
Unscentable had such a great premise and the potential to be a really compelling book. The plot was genuinely interesting, and I found myself wanting to see where the story would go. Unfortunately, the reading experience was seriously affected by the editing—or lack thereof. There were so many grammatical and spelling errors throughout the book that they became distracting. Even more frustrating, there were chapters and sections that appeared to be repeated. At times, it honestly felt like the manuscript had never gone through an editor or a final proofreading process. That’s a shame because I really think this could have been a fantastic book. The story itself has a lot going for it, but it desperately needs some trimming, tightening, and a thorough edit. Cleaning up the grammatical errors, removing the repeated chapters, and streamlining parts of the story would make a huge difference. I wanted to love this book because the underlying idea was so good, but the editing issues made it difficult to fully enjoy. With a good editor and another round of revisions, Unscentable could be a much stronger and more polished read.
This story had a grip on me from the first page. I could not put it down. I found the novel and author from a reading app that was literal highway robbery to read the story. I was so pleased to find it available here because I had to know what happened next. I’ll admit I don’t read a whole lot of werewolf stories but I found this story premise so interesting and refreshing. I would have given this story 5 stars but the need for some copy editing kept me from doing so. There’s also some language usage that’s inconsistent with the setting, for example I believe the author is Australian but the characters are from Montana and Maine living in Portland but use “mum” and “bloody”. These don’t bother me but just something a copy editor could help with. These grammatical errors might trip up some readers but I promise if you can get past it you are in for a great read. I wish I could get more of this story.
This is a fantastic and amazing love story. Its full of pain its full of heartbreak but more than anything its full of love.. definitely near the end. Its long winded at times definitely needed a better editor but well worth reading. The writer has a true grasp at how to tell a story. I started this on a book app. Found it here on Amazon Kindle and bought it. Keep up the good works. Your an amazing storyteller and I hope to find more.
The first few chapters of this book intrigued me enough to find this on kindle and give it a try. But the rest of the book needs a good editor. The kindle version was full of typos and editing issues like split words and extra spaces. Plus, it's clear she wrote this as a serialized chapter release, and it suffers in pacing as a result. It could have been a fifth the length and been a much better book.
Good story, but a lot of errors and a bit drawn out.
The story is good, but the numerous POVs was very redundant. Also, since it was set in the US, we don't say "bloody" which was used a lot and a bit annoying. I think with some good editing, this could be even better. The good bones are there.
The beginning is terrible. First person with zero dialog. Poorly punctuated sentences. There are repeatedly chapters that need to be removed. After 50% it gets smoother and impoves greatly. If you fix it I think you will keep alot more readers and ratings will improve to four or five stars.
This book was missing so many lines it was hard to read. Bought 2x, deleted and downloaded again nothing fixed it. When you sell a ebook aren't you supposed to get the whole book????
Looks like i paid for a book which is either unedited copy or stolen work. The first 20 odd pages appear to be pasted in, loads of spelling errors and repeated chapters. Not sure how this passed to a purchase stage.
The book is a great read. Fast moving and full of exciting moments in this romance/fantasty novel. My major issue are the typos . Please have someone proof your work before publishing in the future.
Loved the book but did not love that chapter 1-3 are obviously corrupted and make absolutely no sense. There are other areas where it is obvious sections are missing as well. That is the only reason I gave it a 4 instead of 5.
This was a different take on werewolves/pack life which was a pleasant surprise. Each enjoyable read. Would read more from this author. Only complaint is the book had many grammatical error.
