This is AI created, the cadence is weird and things don't make sense. How on earth can you see if someone scraped clean a dish IF THEY ALREADY WASHED AND CLEANED THE PLATE?!?!?

Sentence structure, word choice, cadence all make this book feel like it was just spat out with ai.

It just so happenned that a book I read before this one was a sapphic romance that was such an obvious AI slop that pretty much every single commenter flagged it. Well, imagine my surprise when I opened this book and the same sentence structure, clumsy wording, therapist-level-self-awareness and timeline inconsistencies appeared here. I'm not saying the story is necessarily bad - it isn't, and this is why I'm not giving it 1* - but it would be fair to declare it to the reader upfront that AI was used, as I feel cheated upon.

I liked this. I liked this a lot. It's a shortish (by today's overwrought standards) sapphic romance between a closed corporate type and and hand-to-mouth Latina chef.
First off, this is written by someone that knows about food. Lots of gorgeous details from someone that may even have done half the jobs she writes about. Either that or she watched Seasons 1 & 2 of The Bear in slo-mo and took copious notes. After all, William Gibson had never been to Japan when he wrote Neuromancer.
And, even if she hasn't done the service, she knows food, a sensory language all of its own.
It's light-except when it isn't-and it's frequently funny. There are no grand guignol histrionics, it's not like those crappy billionaire romances that seem to be on trend for some reason. Like I say, I liked this a lot. There were a few key phrases that I really enjoyed e.g.
"You look like you're running on cortisol and spite."
... the attraction is just biology and proximity and a jawline that makes me forget how spoons work.
I am in complete control of myself except for the part of me that is screaming.
... the way she moves through a room like she's cutting through water.

(The latter only slightly spoiled because the author uses it twice.)
The author can write and it was a pleasure to read.

The Chef is a heartwarming, tear-jerking romance about love. Morgan Chase builds two down-to-earth individuals with emotional arcs as complex as their romance. Victoria feels real when dealing with grief and fear of opening up. Gemma is an easy character to admire because of her warmth, compassion, and passion for cooking. The story lets trust and affection be built naturally - with shared meals, thought-filled conversations, or silent moments together. Food is the key factor in this novel, but its role in the story is larger than that; the physical and emotional experience of healing and comfort is much stronger than a romantic scene. The writing is very engaging, and the characters' emotions are so personal that you can easily feel invested in their journey. In the end, The Chef is an affecting and satisfying read that tells us love, after all, can come from little, small acts. It is good for those who have a taste for slow-burning romances, characters with heart and soul, with themes that matter, and with a beautifully crafted happily ever after.

An enjoyable feast to experience

What an enjoyable feast for me to devour. Victoria built a wall from being hurt. Gemma cooks food that tastes divine and dazzles the taste buds. I loved reading how Victoria changed her routines and appreciated Gemma’s practical comments written on grocery sacks about the food. It was so relieving to know that even though Victoria was considered an ice queen; she still has a huge loving and caring heart. This story was a very delectable swoon worthy romance that the food felt like a warm cozy character that left huge smiles on people’s faces.

What a wonderful story.

I’ve read almost all of the author’s firefighter books, and enjoyed them all. This story, however, touched me in a way the others didn’t. I can’t put my finger on it, but it was so good.
There could have been more spicy scenes, but it was still worth the read.
I really enjoyed Victoria and Gemma together. The descriptions of Gemma cooking were mouthwatering, and I lost count of how many times I laughed.
The secondary characters added depth to the story, and were well integrated.
I can’t recommend this book enough. It’s absolutely worth your time to read.

seven chefs in fourteen months..

Gemma’s new client has been through seven personal chefs in fourteen months. Patricia from the agency providing the chefs is at wits end. Victoria wants no contact, or notes, just prepared meals and gone before she gets home. That is until Gemma arranges the meals showing she cares about Victoria’s well being.

This was a very nice story. Two different backgrounds, one woman closed off because she was betrayed the other open and caring. How this care translated to prepared meals, the meal arrangement and noticing what Victoria liked. Can’t wait to read the next book in series.

love

This is the first book I read from you and I fell in love with it. It is by far my favorite book I read in this genre. It had me on edge I actually felt the emotions of the characters the way they talked to each other how they communicated. The first sexual encounter was simply in detail but a lot to take in and I understood everything. I could not put this book down I enjoyed this read. It left me with some questions and I feel like it could use a part two but overall well done.

Wow wow wow. This story was SO GOOD!!!!!!! I can’t even believe it, honestly. The spice was minimal and I DIDNT EVEN CARE! For me that’s huge!

I’m discovering I love a chef romance. And if you make it sapphic….yes please.

Victoria is our ice queen financial bigwig and Gemma is the chef that is hired to be Victoria’s personal chef.

Victoria’s walls are sky high, but Gemma slowly gets her to lower them through her cooking for her.

NO THIRD ACT BREAKUP!

All I wanted was more spice. That’s my only “gripe”. Such a beautiful story that had me tearing up at points.

Good food

The best way through her walls is to feed her. Gemma just leaves a notes not for praise but for taste. Gemma is cooking to learn how Victoria likes different foods. Victoria know when things are not right with Gemma when the cooking change for the day. Notes and little treats make things change between to people. Morgan does a wonderful job knowing about different foods and the how they are cooked. A wonderful story with all the right ingredients so the walls come down.

absolutely amazing

I read a lot and this book mesmerized me. The perfect descriptions that just delicately landed me with those two woman surprised me. The power of the food, the silent language that showcases both the fear of getting hurt and the amazing power of being seen just became so beautiful and powerful I read for hours until the end. Read this book, fall under its spell. It is a rare find and joins my cherished list of favorites.

hope this is the start of another series

Love this story. After the Firefighter series ( more of those too please) I couldn’t wait to see if this new book would deliver. And it did. This author has a wonderful ability to tell a great story from start to finish with HEA. If you haven’t read a Morgan Chase book before begin here.

Delicious

This is a delicacy of a story, of an ice queen who was made that way by betrayal of someone she loved.
A chef who cooks up a storm and through beautiful food and insight of her client, they bond before they even meet. I enjoy a story where you feel the relationship and relate to the characters and friends described, very enjoyable.

Wow!!

This book is a feast of words and thoughts and feelings and ripostes! I want to steal every sentence and write my own book! I want the author to write a hundred more books to populate the desert of crappie lesbian romances that has been my reading life for too long! (But not firefighter books!)

A definite book to read

When I first read this book, I thought wow I really like this Author. Than I saw where the writer also wrote the book series Station 11, of which I fell in love with. I said to myself that makes sense, why I like the book "The Chef" so much. Look forward to reading more stories by Morgan Chase.

Good slow burn romance!!!

Been a while since I got hooked- this author knows how to write a real slow burn romance. I very much love the build up of Victoria and Gemma’s story. Will definitely keep an eye on this author’s future works.

Perfect recipe for love

The writing is excellent. Characterization is fully developed. The story unfolds like a lovely room temperature defrosted puff pastry ready to receive its sweet filling.

This was book 26 for me since January and by far the best book I have read so far. The book is so good you don’t want it to end. You fall in love with Victoria and Gemma. I hope there is a sequel with Gemma’s start up business. Amazing book. I highly recommend!

Everything I like in a book trope was there (boss/employee, rich/poor, grumpy/sunshine) it took me a day to finish it, I also liked how there wasn’t really any major drama between the two characters I do wish that there were more moments outside of the apartment though

Perfection

Delightful! I smiled the entire time.
Perfect characters—primary and secondary.
Emotionally laden but not stressful for the reader—except for MC memories.
I appreciated that lack of forced anxiety. There’s agony in the world. I don’t want to experience it when I’m reading for pleasure.

Slow burn, very calm atmosphere. Lots of description, few actions. No real heat, lots of lingering and longing. Food is nicely described and used. The author reuse lots of description and listing, which strains the story and makes the reader lose interest. Finished out of spite.

Ice Queen CEO betrayed by her ex. Chef number eight who actually sees her. Silence, Tupperware, patience, and a slow burn that had me hooked from chapter one. Haven't read a story this well told in a while. Now I need everything this author has written. Full recommendation.

A great read!

A really enjoyable read about an independent chef cooking for an ice queen who is tightly controlling every aspect of her life to avoid being hurt again. Their romance starts with a chicken dish.
